Mouse hovering problem on Lion

Hello everyone,
my problem is that with no reason mouse hovering in Lion is not responding. For example, when I hover my mouse on the dock it does not magnify, it is like there is no pointer at all. In addition, another instance of this is when I am on a webpage, and the mouse hovers over a link where it would normally change to a gloved pointer hand to indicate that it was hovering over the link, it does not; the pointer stays the same black-on-white shape. Moreover, when I hover the mouse over the red button to close the window in the top left-hand corner of the window, the X does not appear on the red button, the - does not on the yellow, and the + does not on the green. Finally, when I open a menu where there is a submenu in a software like Photoshop, neither it highlights nor it shows the submenu until I click on it. It does not happen always and a restart resolves the problem but it is annoying. I am using a Logitech MX600 Laser Cordeless mouse (Unfortunately the magic mouse lags terribly cause the bluetooth signal is not strong enough). I have all the latest updates and I am using an 8 Core Mac Pro (early 2009).
In this video, you will see exactly what I mean:

If this happens in Mountain Lion too, then Apple. I know what it s like to have an expensive item (in your case a mouse) that does not work in Mac, while it works perfectly on Windows. Take for example gamepads, none is working in Mac....why?? is it so difficult for Apple to create Generic Drivers that at least do the basics work? One thing that OS X should be envious about Windows 7 is its ability to download automatically drivers that make your device work even in doomsday. Even if I plug in my washing machine in a USB port Windows 7 will make it work! Let's just hope that Mountain Lion is still not in its last final release.

  • Magic Mouse NOT CONNECTING in Lion

My Magic Mouse has had a constant issue connecting to the MacBook Pro ever since upgrading to Lion.  It seems there is an obvious issue between Lion and Bluetooth.  I keep waiting for Apple to release an update for Lion, hoping they'll fix it.
Are you having this problem?  If so, please reply below and let's get noticed.
What I do to fix it:
All I end up having to do is go to the Bluetooth icon (on the top right of the screen), go to Apple Magic Mouse, Open Mouse Preferences, and just wait without need to click anthing else.  It takes a few seconds and then it'll connect.  But I have to do this everytime I wake my MacBook Pro from sleep.  It does fine connecting after a re-start or shut down but never from sleep.
    What about you?
    BUBBABAIRD

I have a similar problem in Lion but not Snow Leopard. At start up, sometimes both my Bluetooh (BT) Mouse and BT Keyboard connect just fine. Other times, one or the other does not connect at start up, but never both. With the keyboard, after the window comes up saying a keyboard is not connected, I turn the keyboard off then on and it will then connect. More times than that, it is the mouse that does not connect. I have a wired mouse that I use to connect it from the BT menu and everything is fine until I shut down and then restart (usually the next day). I don't think it is the PRAM because sometimes it works fine so it must be retained in the memory and I don't want to reset it if I don't have to and loose other settings. Same with resetting SMC, I prefer not to reset it. I have a second bootable hard drive with Snow Leaopard on it, and when I switch to that, it never has a problem. It seems to me to be a quirk in Lion. Just looking to see if others have this same type of problem.

  • Can (mighty) mouse buttons work w/Lion?

My wired USB Apple Mouse (aka Mighty Mouse) worked fine with 10.5.8 - Sys Pref / Mouse let me assign functions to the left, right, top/scroll, and side buttons.  I just upgraded to 10.6.8 and immediately to 10.7.5 Lion, and although the Sys Pref / Mouse window provides similar settings to 10.5.8, three of the five functions don't work.
The Left button is ok, and the Scroll ball (on top) scrolls ok.  But the Right button acts just like the Left button, and the Top ball/button push and the Side buttons push don't do anything at all.  Thankfully, there are no bizarre problems like the cursor leaping around, and I can hit Control - Left (Primary) button and get the Right (Secondary) button action.
I like my old Mighty Mouse and hope I don't have to get a newer / aftermarket one.  Any help will be appreciated.

Sorry for the duplicate post, I am on two different threads concerning this problem. I had contact with Apple Support through the complimentary support for purchasing Lion. They took note that the wired mighty mouse worked with my Macbook air running Lion 10.7.4, that my Wacom pen and tablet could be programmed to right click on my Macpro running 10.7.5 from the App store but seemed stuck on the requirement for a clean install even though I related clean installs from this discussion forum have not worked.
Out of curiousity I tried the USB Overdrive shareware:
    http://www.senlick.com/html/01.01.html
My wired USB mighty mouse now works with Lion as it did with Snow Leopard, again to me this points to the release of Lion on the app store.
I am going to write the Apple support case handler again and let her know, I have not heard back from them since November 1, hopefully they are working on the problem.

    Greetings!
If you are still on this issue, I suggest you check out your fonts.  Had you been fooling with them?
I once rebuilt my entire OS due to this problem a couple of years ago.  It popped up again yesterday and I determined to find the issue.
It was my fonts.  I use Funtoo (I used to use ArchLinuxArm so I'm registered here) and just prior to the problem I was fooling with the infinality/lcdfilter settings.  After chasing my tail all day today I went and changed some font settings and that was it!  For me the same issue occurred whenever I tried to add the weather icon, the best thing about Docky.
I had been fooling with the fonts 2 years ago too...
An ominous and unhelpful error message to be sure.
    Good luck.

  • Problem with Lion 10.7.3 with hp laserjet 3600n network  printer

    Hi
Problem with Lion 10.7.3 with hp laserjet 3600n network  printer
Guys i am having a mad day with this new OS and some network printer none of them work with new LION,The software for this printer is currently unavaliable. Please contact the printers manufacturer for the latest software, i need the drivers for this, please give a hand with this issue
    Best Regards

Exactly the same infuriating problem we and many others get with OS X from 10.6 on when Apple dropped Apple Talk.
Having spent days fighting to get drivers that will run our older laser printers like HP5000, 5100, 2100, 2200 and 4MV, we came up with a simple solution:
We use an iMac running 10.5.8 as a print server. All the 10.6 upwards Macs on the same network will see and add the printers immediately through the shared older (Apple Talk) iMac.
Cheapest and simplest option really .... it'sannoying that a brand new Mac can no longer see existing network printers without complex investigation and trying various downloads.
Answer is simple and cheap if you happen to own a 4 or 5 year old Mac with an OS lower than 10.6 which still has Apple Talk.

  • Startup problem with Lion OS 10.7.3

Just recently, I've been experiencing a startup problem with Lion. I don't usually have any issues running my Mac, so I'm at a loss why this is happening now.
I have an Intel Mac Pro running 10.7.3. I usually leaving my Mac running all the time and only restart when the need arises. In addition to being my main computer, this mac alsocontrols a MacMini that serves as a music server thru screen sharing.
This past weekend, I restarted my Mac and could not get past the grey screen. The mac chimes, the apple logo appears with the spinning gear, the blue screen briefly appears, but instead of progressing to the desktop it reverts to the grey screen with a repeating cycle of the spinning gear appearing (spins for a while, stops, disappears, reppears spinning, stops, disappears, over and over) - never progressing beyond that stage.
I decided to reinstall the system and things have been fine for the past few days. Today, restarting again resulting in the same problem.
I've tried several things without success. I disconnected all peripherals, reset the PRAM/SMC, ran Disk Utility from a install volume and ran repair and permissions (no problems reported). Tried safe mode startup - a progress bar appeared but never fully progressed and could not get to the desktop.
Recent changes included updating the OS to 10.7.3 and Adobe Photoshop CS5.5 - no recent hardware changes. No bluetooth devices connected.
    Any thoughts? Thanks -

    Thanks -
I've reinstalled the OS today and am back up and running.
But, since this is twice this has happened within the past week, I'm worried about might be causing this issue - besides bad luck. My Mac is usually rock solid - can't remember the last time I've had to reinstall the OS in the past few generations of OS X.

  • Can an iMac 10.6.7 snow leopard with wired MOUSE be upgraded to LION OX?

Hi can you help,  Can my iMac OS X 10.6.7 that uses a wired mouse be upgraded to Lion OX if so how could I zoom the screen with my fingers as I dont have a magic mouse or magic pad?  Also can my iMac work okay if I got rid of the mouse for the pad.  I bought the iMac just 2 mnths before the new ones came out pity but love it anyway as I have had 3 windows PCs and 2 laptops but nne of them are as good as the Apple iMac.

As long as your iMac meets the system requirements, you can buy Lion - having a wired mouse has nothing to do with the operating system; it just will not allow you to use any gestures. But I can't see why you just couldn't use it as you always have. And, as long as your iMac supports bluetooth, I'm sure you can buy a trackpad if you like - then you'd be able to use gestures.

You can change the timing yourself - just reduce the time the

No, as I have yet to be convinced on Lion.
Did a permissions repair help from the install DVD?

  • How to fast color the current mouse-hovered row in MultiColumnBox

    Hi,
I'm trying to color in a very efficient way the current mouse-hovered row in MutliColumnBox... however, it turns out to be pretty slow...?
Any idea about how to make it (much) faster?
Find attached my current way of achieving this purpose... a bit slow and plus the ActiveCell {-2, -2} considered all the cells... including the row and column headers (how to avoid this by the way ?) (No way to avoid to repainting the headers... after all?)
EDIT: I tried to defer the visual updates on the Front Panel but no big improvements so far.
    Thanks,

Your example VI runs quite well on my computer (LV 2011, pretty old Dell laptop with an i7). I don't notice any slowness at all, even when moving the cursor up and down quickly. Maybe it's something with LV 2010 or with your computer specifically?
One possible workaround for things like this (if you can't find another solution) is not to run the update on every mouse move, but rather throttle it. There are a number of ways of doing this. One example is to move the code to the timeout case and set the timeout value through a shift register. The move event sets it to N (let's say 20) and the timeout event sets it to -1. That way, the code runs once, N ms after the last move event.
And no, -2 will always grab the headers too. Your code is the only way I know of to fix it. Maybe it will work if you hide and show the headers, but I haven't tried it and I'm guessing it won't.

Does anybody know a solution to this problem?
Any help will be really appreciated.
    Regards,
    Victor.

You need to use 1.5.0_12 or newer. The client SOD is not up-to-date on this specific point. A lot of navigation problems was fixed in this very release.
The Management team should change this in the client SOD, wonder why they still refer to 1.5.0_06. For Applications, the first 1.5.0 to be certified was _12.
Also make sure, that you are using the latest Patch 3 for 10.1.2 (10.1.2.3). This patch also contains fixes for a lot of these wellknown issues.
    Hope this helps,
    Jacob

Mountain Lion fails to install saying it cannot create the recovery; I had a similar problem with Lion and the Apple Store that helped me resolve it gave me an installable version of Mountain Lion on a flash drive for my inconvenience....is there some trick I am missing or do I need to make an appointment with a genius...

I have the MacIntosh volume and the Boot Camp partition only.  I know that when I installed Lion, I had to go through a whole back-up and recovery of Windows and then re-format the drive.
The tech at the Apple Store had a previous life as a MSCE and was very helpful.  I believe he even said that I should not have htis problem with Mountain Lion which is why they gave me the flash with it onboard.  I was in the process of starting a new job when I went to Lion, so I have waited to do this next and probably last upgrade to this old MBP since I doubt Apple will support this MBP in Maverick.
I do not have another installation, so that is not an option.  I will try to create an external, I have plenty of hard drives around and see if I can get it done that way.  It might take me a week or two to get back to it, but I will comment back upon completion of that effort.  Thanks for your help....Dave Iverson
