Mouse issues at Hard Drive selection screen in Boot Camp

Hello,
I have been searching for awhile and cannot find any information regarding this. I have a Razer Deathadder 3500 series mouse and when I go into the Boot Camp HD selection screen my mouse movements are inverted. Up is down and down is up. I am not sure why this is or how to fix it. Does anyone know?
Thanks,
Brad

Hi all,
in another thread a user had problems with a non-Razer mouse and the selection screen.
Problem, of any, is that at the time of the selection screen, no additional mouse driver is loaded yet, but rather a seemingly 'unified' one.
While maybe a SMC reset might be helpful, I suggested to simply use the cursor-keys for selection and then the Enter key.
At least that works for me.
Happy computing
Stefan

  • Can I make an additional hard drive partition with a boot camp partition on my mac?

    Hi.
I have installed boot camp and now I want another partition for a second install of Mavericks. Can I make another partition for this without messing up Windows 8.1?

Is it dangerous to use an external HD to boot from? The guy at Circuit City told me it was.
One danger of using an external hard drive as a boot drive, is the connection is not as reliable as an internal hard drive. The other is the mistaken assumption that just because it is separate, or not part of the computer, that it is safe. The only true safety comes in numbers. You should always backup your data*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
2.5" hard drives are a little less reliable than 3.5" hard drives because of the smaller parts involved. Mac Minis have 2.5" hard drives, whereas other desktop Macs have 3.5" hard drives. Whether the reliability of Firewire or USB over SATA or Parallel ATA on 2.5" is enough to offset this difference is hard to say. Having enough backups ensures you don't have to be surprised when you find out in your situation.

  • Hard drive missing space after boot camp got stocked on "Creating Partition"

Hi guys, last night I was trying to install windows 7 in my computer for some gaming, the process with boot camp went well until it said "Creating Partition" there it got stocked for a good 2 hours, because of this I did a bit of research on what could happen if I would force quit it, I read that it might happen that if I restart the partition would be there or just nothing would have change but in my case none of those happened, my hard drive is keeping that space in blank without letting me use it, before trying boot camp I had 240 GB of free space and now after restart it I have 90 gb of free space, yes I tried to make the partition of 150 GB, so what should I do to repair this?, I verified the permissions on Disk Utility and I just got one weird message:
Warnin SUID file "Library/CoreS" has been modified and will not be repaired
But when I try to verify/repair I get this:
    or this:

Reboot to your recovery partition and run disk utility from there, you can not repair the disk you are booted from.

  • I am dual booting my mackbook pro with windows 7 64 bit. Yesterday it started locking up at the disk drive selections screen, when you hold down the "option" butting when powering on. I have been searching all morning, and so far nothing. Thanks. :)

    Hey folks,
I have been using bootcamp for months now with windows 7 64 bit, and its been fine, yesterday while I was rebooting to do some gaming, at the hard drive selection screen when you boot holding the "options" butting down, it locks up when I select the windows drive and just sits there for ever. It doesn't throw an error, it boots fine into Lion.
I searched all morning and didn't find anything, was hoping that someone might have an idea.
    Thanks in advance

either something got damaged when you installed the hard drive or you need to perform a pram reset (other possibilites could have occured, these are the ones I think)

  • Hard drive and screen failures

Hello all, thank you for any help! I have to do this on my phone, apologies for any errors!
I have an early 2011 macbook pro, purchased in the fall of 2011.
    Last repair:
I had 3 year apple care, and had last taken it for repairs september 2014, for first not ejecting discs from optical drive, then losing touchpad sensory control, then starting to sometimes not booting and/or black screen. When I got it back they had replaced the logic board, hard drive, and screen and connections there were a few screws not flush on the base, and they said that was fine, and it needed to be like that for the touchpad to work.
Today, this morning, it was fine.  I left it at 9 am, came back at noon and the screen was black,  and only the least of fan sounds
    I have
MBPro early 2011 OSX 10.7.4 Lion
Use surge protector 95% of the time (except rarely when out at a cafe)
    'Symptoms':
    Black screen
No boot sound on start up
No sounds of hard drive or disc/DVD drive
No indicator light bar at the front right corner
Sound of fans running on low
Light from charger indicator is green (full)
    I tried:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
A)Shift-control-option-power a handful of times, no change
    B)Disconnected power cord, waited, reconnected
Combinations of these (power off, then A, B, power on; on, A, B, on; B, A, on; etc)
    D) I tried command-R, no boot, no change
Results: only when I use method A, then the optical drive clicks/buzzes. Otherwise no change for any other attempts I listed ^. If I shut down and restart with the power button then as before, no sounds except low level fan sound.
I am quite disappointed, one reason I've enjoyed Apple products is in being able to use them for 5-10 years :/

Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the third-party developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, email the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.

Using Mac OSX Install Disc 1, I am not able to get any further than the Partition tab.  It allows me to select my hard drive selection, but will not allow me to make any other selections such as options.  Does anyone know their way around this obstacle?  Am I doing anything wrong?  Thanks

Hello, The Hatter, I read about the 'trick' of backing up, erasing, and restoring too, but I figured it would take longer than defragmenting the disk.
But the defragmentation process has just finished! so I'm gonna try to run Boot Camp again soon!
    Thanks for your helpfulness, anyway.
And P.S. I didn't clone my system onto the external drive, I just inserted the Mac OS X Install CD, rebooted holding down the "C" key, and installed a fresh Snow Leopard system onto the predetermined partition. I will use that in cases of emergency, when my main/internal system becomes unusable.

That is another classic symptom of a WD hard drive being jumpered as either a master or a slave when there is no other drive on the cable with it.  If the drive is the only drive on the cable, then remove the jumper from the drive.

Installed a cloned 500g solid state hard drive but unable to boot in macbook pro. Can only hear drive spinning quietly, no chime to launch OS. Total darkness. Can anyone help? thanks in advance!

    Hi Retired Engineer,
Yes, you're right. It is the Seagate Momentus XT and it does not spin. That was just a layman's term for computer illiterate like myself. After hours of inspection & a prayer, I discovered by pulling the 4 GB memory chips out I put in, replacing the 1.5 GB back in for the memory which I upgraded 3 years ago. Chime! It works! So it is the 4 GB memory causing the problem. But why? Does that mean my Macbook Pro does not support with more memory? The fan noise is now gone which I suspect it was caused the other overheating Seagate hard drive & eventually causing the crash. However, the top bar temp indicator shows 174˙F @ 000rpm. Does that also mean the fan on the left is not working? (the right fan on the board works). Do they work simutaneously? Or left fan is just a back up?
Thanks for your reply & kind gesture.

  • Interface freezing issues and hard drive replacement

Hi, I have an Imac. It was getting slow and kept getting a long time lag on typing etc. So I bought snow leopard, backed up and wiped and reinstalled the lot. Then it started freezing - from moment one (literally). I could move my mouse and stuff was still running but I couldn't click on anything or select anything or get any response at all. Sometimes it would "white out". Only solution was forced reboot.
So I called apple, rand disk utility, kept showing disk errors - file 334576 should be file 334575 etc. Fixed them - they came back after each freeze. So they said its a hardware error.
Took it to shop. They reinstalled and no errors showed in the tests - but then it kept freezing when they tried to use it. Eventually they settled on a hard drive error - fitted a new one (money paid), it didn't freeze in 48 hours of tests and use. They said that if it keeps freezing it must be an intermittent motherboard problem. TBH I'm not convinced because, though it was slow before SNOW, it wasn't freezing!
Anyway, I took it home, put my stuff back on, was fine -
next day, froze twice in 2 mins - once, rebooted, then again, froze instantly before dock had fully popped up! (It seems to freeze in movement a lot - like task switching or dock popping etc).
It was then that I stumbled upon this term online "interface freezing issues" which seems to have been an initial issue with the imac, and there were some early posts about snow too. The problem is exact, if you minus this hard drive error issue, which MAY have been separate problem (cause by shorts caused by excessive cat hair inside computer).
I have read that external drives etc can be a cause, but not heard usb mentioned, only flywire - I have a dual USB port external drive for time machine. But really, this freezing is entirely since snow.
    Can I solve this problem?
    Do apple acknowledge this problem?
SHould I uninstall it and ask for my money back?
I would like solid, conclusive answers if possible - from people with direct experience. I work online and am also a writer - i am BEYOND dependant on this mac (especially as my partner is seriously ill and I am the sole income just now).
    thankyou for reading
    Anna
Anyway - ran disk utility - but no errors this time. Which is good.

As for the taking apart part. I'm not too worried. I've read quite a bit on the subject and watched a couple youtube videos. Also, i've taken a iBook G4 apart to it's core to replace that hard drive and did it without a hitch.
I'm a little unsure about the interface for the Optical Drive. From what i've read the HD is a SATA connection. While, the Optical Drive connection is IDE. Is that normal for one computer to have both?
I found two drives both around $100 for each. One is SATA the other is IDE.
    SATA

    IDE
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118021
Also, the HD from Newegg that I posted above, runs at 3GB/s. I've remember reading somewhere that my iMac will only run the drive at 1.5GB/s. Is that true?

  • Satellite L50D - Boot issues after Hard Drive replacement

I have just upgraded my hard drive from the pathetic 5400 crod they supply to an SSHD@7200rpm but now have a major issue.
I initially imaged the os from the old hard drive back to the new drive and have had chronic boot issues (1 in 3-4 boot attempts succeed else it fails at any point (often at the Toshiba startup screen)).
I've reinstalled from a plain clean Win 8.1 ENT disc (trying to avoid the bloatware) and this has the exact same issue and was what I used to format the laptop fine with previously and worked previously.
I've tried reformatting and reinstalling (deleting ALL partitions each attempt) in CSM, UEFI non secure and UEFI secure. CSM is a straight never works no go and both UEFI methods have the exact same outcome.
I've tried with the original restore discs and it seems to work (haven't had time to fully test) but I don't want the bloatware and this should not matter since if I were a customer who forgot to make the restore discs (happens too often) and just had to have a failed or killed hard drive replaced the laptop would now be a door stop.
This seems as bad as Apple for locking people in :/.
So I'd appreciate ideas from people please, I'm not sure if there is a prep program that is supposed to be run over a new drive like PS3's etc (I doubt it) but this is driving me up the wall and will be the last time I consider Toshiba as anything other than a joke if there is no fix.
I've had to replace hard drives a few times in my previous Toshiba laptops and had none of this crod, it has something to do with the UEFI which seems more of a nuisance than assistance at the moment.
    TIA.

    Hi
In my opinion you should check firstly if this booting issue is related to the new installed HDD or new installed system.
You said that the notebook fails to boot often at the Toshiba splash screen.
The splash screen appears while POST (power on self test) procedure. During this test, the hardware will be checked.
Im wondering if the hybrid SSD/HDD isnt recognized by BIOS during this particular step.
From my point of few this might be the reason why the system cannot be booted up.
    Another important note:
The Win 8.1 requires enable secure boot as well as the UEFI boot mode.
Therefore you should enable both options in BIOS.
Last but not least check if you are using latest BIOS version as well as latest firmware for hybrid SSD/HDD

  • Changed hard drive, now screen is messed up

I recently changed out the hard drive on my 15" 2007 Macbook Pro from the factory 5400 RPM, 160GB drive to a Hitachi 7200 RPM, 500GB drive. I carefully followed instructions online on how to open the laptop up, remove and replace the hard drive. When I went to boot up the laptop after the new hard drive was in (with the original OS 10.4 boot disc that came with the computer in the DVD drive) it seemed to load fine at first. I was on the grey load screen for a while, and when it moved to the "Choose your language" screen that appears the first time you turn on your Mac, the screen was a garbled mess. The best way I can describe it is that it looks like an old TV with bad reception from rabbit ear antennae. There are diagonal, blocky black lines across the screen. I can move the mouse cursor fine, and can see that clearly, and if I press enter, it's obvious the computer is working and moves on to the next screen, but it's all behind a garbled mess. Technical support wasn't much help, and only suggested I take it into Mac, but I know they'll charge me to fix it. Any ideas?
