Mouse jumps all around

I have a mighty mouse and the standard mouse doing the same thing. I will be using them and all of a sudden they jump to the edge of the screen. On line or off line it is all the same.

It is not clear to me that anyone has a demonstrated solution to the problem. My wireless optical mouse recently started bouncing around. I don't believe it has anything to do with the surface of my mouse pad since the pointer will move without any movement of the mouse. I have cleaned the optical reader side of the mouse as well as the scroll ball. So far nothing works.
Has there been an identified solution to the problem?

  • 64gb touch battery meter jumping all around

i had just bought a 64bg touch and had noticed that the battery fill bar was jumping all over the place during my first drain. i would be at 65% and then down to 30%, up to 75% and then down to red status at 15%. it did that for a couple weeks until i brought it into apple.
anyway, i downloaded a bunch of battery apps (one of which i use on my iphone) and the exact percentage jumps around all the time and then during an off/on process will change and then during a hard reset will change (even though all i'm doing is turning it off and not using it).
so i took it into apple and they replaced it, but my new touch is doing the exact same thing. also i've done the battery calibration by draining it a couple times and restored the software.
neither my iphone, my wifes iphone, nor the other 4 models we've owned of previous generations have done anything like this. do all touches do this? just the 64gb ones? seems strange since i got it off amazon and the replacement came from an apple store in virgina.
anyone have any insight or information about this?

I am having the same problem with an iPhone 3Gs since I bought the **** thing back in June at its arrival in stores. It's been doing this since I've got it and has had every software upgrade possible. I did every type of reset and even restored it as a brand new phone downloading an entirely new firmware with no back up from apple and trying it that way. Apple says they did some kind of reset that resets the way the phone reads battery level, Sure enough, the minute I got home it was back to its old ways. It would be fully charged in less than 2 hours time from a dead battery. Yet would need to be charged 4 times through out the day with moderate use on the lowest brightness setting, no 3g internet, no wifi, no blue tooth, no push notifications, and was even put in airplane mode when I new I wasn't expecting a call.
I'm now on 3.1.3 which has supposedly fixed battery reporting issues (********) but in reality, all the update was put there for was to patch a hole made by the dev team.
for example, right now my phone reads 33%, at 5:06 PM, the phone was left in airplane mode all day because i've been at work where I have no service, and came off of a full charge at 9 o clock AM.
If i turn the phone off and on, The battery says 13%, i get a < 20% battery notice, dismiss it and the minute I press a button or unlock it jumps back to the 33%. If i keep doing this and the phone starts with less than 10% battery even though it will jump to 30% shortly after, the phone doesn't give me enough time to press a button before it shuts off and tells me to connect it to a charging source. The minute I do so, it takes about 10 minutes to come on, and the minute it does, boom back at 30%. It's like i'm missing a 30% gap in battery power.
I had the first iphone back in the day when it was first released and apple had nothing but the best customer service, bring it in, no questions asked you walked out with a new iphone, so of course I came back for seconds when the 3Gs came out, well let me tell you a lot has changed.

  • Magic Mouse jumps all over screen

Have had it for about 6 months, brand new fresh batteries. It will randomly jump all over the screen when I am normally using the mouse. It just started to happen. I'm on a wired network and I have tried a white piece of paper and different surfaces. The mouse still randomly will jump all over the screen when I am moving it in normal use, it's as if it tracking ultra fast for a few seconds. And my keyboard will pause when I'm typing every few words as well.
    Is this an interference issue?

    FWIW
The issue seems to be related to using multiple monitors. Assuming one has two monitors the jumping mouse problem presents itself when the primary monitor is connected to a video card AND a secondary monitor is also connected to that same card, but NOT turned on. There seems to be some sort of interference b/w the Mac's bluetooth module and the mini-display adapter. Moving the secondary monitor to a second video card presents no problems with the jumping mouse in either the powered on or powered off mode.
Solution: Either turn on both (all) monitors or disconnect secondary monitors from the primary video card if planning to use only one monitor powered on at a time.

  • Magic Mouse jumps all over the screen

    *Magic Mouse is on Drugs*
OK so first, let me say that generally speaking i love my mac. There was a time in the 90's when i was a big Apple fan, but after a few dumb@ss business decisions by Apple, i decided to convert to Windoze (and my entire company at that) So here we are a decade later; and I'm back on a mac again.
Recently my MagicMouse started spazzing out. Randomly jumping to new points on the screen. At first it was mildly annoying. Now it's infuriating. I used Camtasia to record this behavior:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fX8ApUH6QOw
I called Apple to discuss this. First, they said "they weren't aware of any issues" A quick google of "MagicMouse Jumps" returned hundreds upon hundreds of links (including this forum) describing the issue.
Second, after assuring Apple this really was a problem, i got the ultimate insult. "If you would like to lodge a technical support ticket, we will need your credit card. This call will cost you $150.00."
You see, I bought this thing four months ago. Apparently you only get a 90 day free call period. After that you're warranty is actually a cost per call scenario.....
So -- While i love my mac, i'm of the distinct impression i've made the wrong choice. The only good news is I've now decided not to convert the rest of our 20 workstations in my business back to Mac....
Apart from my b*tching, has anyone actually solved this problem that according Apple, doesn't exist?
Oh by the way --- plugged in a USB laser mouse, problem does not occur with that device -- tried on all sorts of surfaces; mouse pads, no mouse pads, black paper, white paper, patterned, non patterned, special optical mouse pad for laser mice.... SAME results no matter what the surface is, and YES, i've also cleaned the optics with a lens cloth..... (And the battery is currently at 88%)

    Hello g:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I suspect a faulty mouse. However, try two things first. Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart. Reset the PRAM:

There is no Apple charge for a warranty issue and the mouse has a one year warranty. Call Applecare back (or take it to a store if they have one close to you). Unless I am badly mistaken, Apple will replace the mouse and pay for shipping both ways (I had one fail a couple of years ago myself). Do identify the call as a warranty issue.

  • Find my iPhone jumps all around?

Since we have several iOS devices and want to make sure we can find them should they get "misplaced", and also it's nice to be able for us to follow each other on long road trips to make sure we aren't stuck on a road somewhere in trouble.
But on our phones (iPads only wifi), even when device is inside house sitting in one spot, it will show it at the neighbors, behind trees by the road, in the driveway, etc. why does it jump around like that? If it were missing, I sure wouldn't want to have it show at one of my neighbors house, when it was maybe under a couch cushion etc...
You'd think that 4s's would be highly accurate especially when connected to Internet. Sometimes, it's even showed the phone in the middle of a field 1/2 mi from house (there is a cell tower there)??
I'm confident it could be remotely locked, but as far as watching out for each other, it seems to be worthless.

This can occur when your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac is still determining a more accurate location or is unable to provide a more accurate location. Wait a few minutes and refresh the map to try again.
To center the device on the map, or to zoom in or out, use the map navigation controls in the upper-left corner (if the My Devices list is open and hiding the controls, click outside the list to close it). You can also drag the map to move it around.
To check for an updated or more specific location, click the green dot on the map (so the device info appears), then click the Refresh button.

  • Mouse Jumps Around on Controlled Client

When I connect to a Mini using ARD 3.0, the mouse jumps all over the screen. The client machine and the server are
    running 10.4.6.
I have other client machines that are older imacs and a dual core, and the mouse acts normal. The mouse connected to the server is working.
    Anyone seen this?
    Thanks,
    Eric

Yes. This has come up before. It has something to do with having the "guest access" features checkboxes enabled at the same time as being logged in with control/observe privileges if I recall correctly.
Turning off the guest access checkboxes in Access Privileges was the answer.

  • Desktop and mouse jumping during startup

When starting the computer, the screens and mouse jump all over the place and switches screens.

I have a Powermac G5-I only have in the computer what was factory installed. The computer is a little over 5 years old. The problem started after I booted up and logged in. My desktop and pointer were frozen. I could not escape and I tried to shut down doing a force quit. No Luck. I eventually had to unplug the computer from the wall. Upon restarting the computer, when it came on, all I got was a gray screen with the Apple logo. After about a minute of this, The internal cooling fans would come on full blast. I also tried booting from the start-up disk (I had to install the disk manually, because the drive would not respond to the key command) with no luck. I have taken it to the Mac store. Their conclusion was it could be the motherboard or the CPU's, but they weren't certain either. Do you think it could be possible that it's not the CPU or Logicboard? The expense for replacing both, almost doesn't make it worth it. Any ideas?

  • Mouse jumps around

I have a TouchSmart tx2-1275dx, running vista. Since day one, my mouse jumps around on "black Screen" sites and on movies. If I go to hollisterco.com, for example, my mouse jumps around so bad that I have to use my pen to control movement and clicks. This also happens on movies I watch through programs such as VLC and Media Player. My guess is I have to disable the touch smart feature. I have read through many messages here but I cannot find a suitable solution for my problem. I have gone into the "Pen and Input Devices" folder and disabled everything, but that doesn't work. I will post a photo of what is listed under HID, I read maybe I have to disable something there, but I don't want to mess with that until someone can tell me which device to disable. Under Mouse devices, I have HID compliant mouse, and Synaptics PS/2 Port Tuochpad. If anybody can give me a clue as to how to stop the mouse jumping, I would appreciate it. As I said, it only happens on black screen sites and movies, and I have disable all pen and input devices. Thanks!

Come on...Are you reading my posts at all?? I  told you I tried unchecking 'hide pointer while typing', and I tried freezecheck...THEY DON'T WORK...Read what I am writing, please..You know what, please stop trying to help me...I will wait for someone else to respond who knows how to help....

Help! My Mouse pad is not working properly. The arrow cannot be controlled, it just keeps jumping all over the page. How can I stop this?

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and in that case the unit must be serviced or replaced.
    3. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    4. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    5. Reset the System Management Controller.
    6. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    7. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to  behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

If so there's already discussions about this here and maybe related to it, here.  Also google something like "jumping magic mouse" and there's no end of discussions on this topic
