Mouse keeps FREEZING........KEYBOARD NOT WORKING!!!!
Hey, hoping someone could help. The last couple days, I will walk away from the laptop and come back only to see the trackpad is frozen and I am unable to type. I know that the laptop is NOT frozen because any audio/video will still be playing.
Any ideas why this is happening???
I have a similar issue, and it appears to be tied to static electricity. When I feel a small charge of electricity through the touchpad after it has sat a while, it froze. An external mouse/keyboard can be attached and work well. Of course, that isn't convenient on a laptop.
I have since "grounded" myself before I touch the keyboard/pad and have eliminated the issue over 90%. This isn't convenient, but it works.

G4 just replaced power supply , it powers up , but the screen is not on and the mouse and keyboard aren't on either. A few times the computer came on with screen working but then it froze up, can't do any type of reset cause of keyboard not working. Help! Pressed pmu button already, nothing ,.. Ppc g4 Mac
Should I check the memory cards themselves? Reseat them?
Yes.
Memtest X or Rember to test the RAM.
Reseat is also good.
The iPhone 4 doesn't like USB 1.1 much.
after the update the computer was working well, except for this freeze when ever I connect iPhone.
I'd try USB 2.0 PCI. That's how I connect my iPhone 4s, and have connected all iPhones and iPods, to my G4.
Never an issue.
Can't say the same for USB 1.1.......

The NEC chipset is the desired chipset, regardless of what OS the maker says is compatible.
OS X has native NEC chipset USB support. -
My MacBook Pro keyboard not working correctly after Win7 bootcamp installation.
Installation went well but when I boot either with OSx or Win it always keeps Windows keyboard.
How can I have Mac keyboard in OS boot and Win keyboard in Win boot?Hi - I have the exact same model as your MacBook and had a few questions as mine is acting up. I upgraded the ram to 8gb (2x 4GB ram) and ever since then my computer has not been running as smoothly and the start up time is horrendous. Have you encountered this problem? And if so how did you fix? What would you advise me do?
I was thinking of reverting back to the original factory 4GB then rebooting the entire computer. Any suggestions?

MARIAI saw this issue before where cause was a bad preference for another application.
When I had the "can't type Shift H" problem in Entourage, it was a corrupt preference for FlightCheck, a preflighting program I use in conjuction with QuarkXPress that was the culprit.
First determine if the problem is in your User’s folder by creating a new User in System Preferences and test for the problem there. If it goes away then you know the problem is in your User’s folder.
Use new User to test for problems

I'm not sure by my mouse keeps freezing on me, and today I was working on a track in Logic 7, and the mouse got stuck, and the music got stuck too, and just sound like a fast broken record. Replaying the same spot for like 2-3 seconds. I'm getting really scared. I downloaded SMARTreporter, and it says that my drive is fine, but it's not acting like it. HELP !!!!
There are other ways, but this should be fine as long as you do not try to run it from the desktop, (pretty hard to do that anyway), but just run it from Single User Boot!
But, another way to get part way there...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes. -

Does the keyboard work fine inside the BIOS?
Also try booting from LiveCD of Ubuntu, if issue remains then the keyboard is faulty.

Mouse pad virtual wheel not working in bookmarks menu
Hi,
My laptops mouse pad wheel does not work in the bookmarks menu. It works fine in any other application or on the main view in firefox. I'm not very organized and have hundreds of bookmarks, it's frustrating to have to wait for the up/down buttons in the bookmarks menu to scroll.

which did not work.

You should be able to at least set the MS mouse driver to perform scroll wheel functions in FCP through the MS mouse preference pane (zoom in/out for example) but I don't know if that includes scrolling. -

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -

Yes. you should keep your media in iTunes, and indeed you should also keep a backup of your library as well. if you have the device set up for manual management then the content would remain on it when deleted from the library, but you would have no way to restore the device if there was a problem.

I have had a similar problem with a mouse and it turned out that the cord at the USB connection had became frayed inside and would cause the mouse to short and stop the system right in its tracks. Hello, I just purchased this laptop and right from the start some letter keys and the backspace bar aren't working, so I've gotten to the point where I have to enter a registration email but cannot choose the on-screen keyboard, and I'm stuck in my set-up phase.
I tried removing the battery once because the first time it plainly stopped setting up entirely. What can I do?

It may help you guys because I was able to bring back the keyboard and I am typing with it now. If you face problem with the keyboard not working then please follow these instruction. You may think you have no option with keyboard, but if your mouse pad is working than follow me. I would love to help you guys, I wish that everyone pc work fine after following these.
1) click on the corner to open panel.
2) click on the setting.
3) Control panel
4) Ease of Access
5) Ease of Access center
6) Start on screen keyboard. This will provide you on screen keyboard. You can use this to type, or you can try reset pc to factory setting. I reset to factory and it work out fine.
To reset follow this steps:
1) corner to open panel
2) seting
3) change pc setting
4) on the bottom, update and recovery
5) Recovery
6) Remove everything and reinstall window, click on get started.

Keyboard Not Working and Question Mark Folder on Startup
I've got a question for a Mac Genius: What is the cause of my keyboard not working and a grayscreen coming up on startup? I'll give you a little background. I have a 1.83Ghz Macbook that is two years old now...almost exactly. I came back from work yesterday and it was in a semi-frozen state. Two apps were frozen but the finder was still alive. Within 10 seconds of trying to navigate through the Finder, it froze too. I went ahead and tried to restart it, but nothing happened. I held down the power button and it shut off. When I tried to start it back up a gray screen comes up. It makes the chiming sound but goes no where. After about half a minute the folder with the question mark will appear. The first few times I tried it, it seemed like the optical drive was trying really hard to work, but it doesn't try so hard anymore. None of the keys work and the Caps Lock and Num Lock don't light, so I can't use any of the keyboard commands to work my way around (resetting PRAM/using startup disks). The CD is stuck in it because I can't force eject it. I believe the trackpad is also not working, but I couldn't be sure.
Previously I had noticed that when I came back from work I would find Mozilla Firefox using tons of the CPU when it wasn't really doing anything. This heated up the computer and made the fans spin at crazy speeds(6000RPM). I will try the Hard drive in another computer tonight probably because I'm pretty sure that's not the problem, but I would like to be sure.
Any ideas would be helpful! I'm just about to tear it open and see if anything has been physically fried.I went ahead and tried to eject the CD with an external mouse but it didn't work. What I ended up doing is swapping my hard drive into my friend's computer and discovered that that was the only problem. It appears that my HDD was totally fried because after I booted off of the start-up cd, the HDD was nowhere to be found within disk utility. My computer starts up fine and the keyboard works fine when I have someone else's HDD in mine. I'm really surprised that the Macbook needs a good HDD to operate it's trackpad and keyboard. Thank you for your help! Although now I have a new question; is there any way to salvage the data trapped on my old HDD? Cheers!
