Mouse left button acting like right button

I have a MacBook black with snow Leopard. My mouse is acting up. On both the laptop and a usb mouse the left button is acting like athe write button by bringing up action boxes instead of just doing the deffault action. for example I go to the task bar and to open a program and the box "open/ options" open up. what's the solution?

Is the Control key stuck down? Try another keyboard.

  • Touchpad not working, left click acting like right

    Hi - I apologize if this was already asked, but I couldn't find it. I have a G Series laptop (I'm at work so I don't have the specifics on me) and as of Friday night, out of nowhere, the touchpad stopped functioning properly. All clicks responded as if I had was right clicking. Needless to say, this was annoying. I tested all of my touchpad settings, uninstalled and reinstalled, tried new drivers, rolled back drivers, system restore, etc. and nothing worked. When I plug in a USB mouse, it still works perfectly, if that helps at all. But whenever I used the left click below the touchpad, it acts as a right click (however, the touchclick, or whatever it's called on the touchpad still works as a left click). I called and was given the advice you might expect...hard reset followed by a system recovery if that didn't work. The hard reset didn't work (big surprise), and I really don't want to lose my stuff; since I can still use the USB mouse, it's not the absolute end of the world. But I'm still irritated by it. It's a month away from the warranty being over, so I need to get moving on this. But I don't know how helpful HP is going to be with this (judging by their first bits of advice, not very). Any suggestions? This literally happened out of nowhere. I seem to remember this happening sometimes on my desktop, but that always managed to remedy itself by clicking some buttons, shutting down, etc. This time, that's not doing the trick. I'd appreciate any insight or help into this issue. Thanks very much!

    Had the same problem, what I did works just as well but it's an adjustment. Go to touchpad settings (under 'Synaptics Touchpad v6.5')then click on buttons, manual for right mouse Instead of the normal right button setting, I switched it to button completely disabled.  Now your mousepad only recognises left clicking and if you want to use the right mouse button, you lick once with the touchpad on the item you want, then click the button on the right of 'alt gr' (on the left of 'ctrl')this has the same ability. Inias

  • Left click acting like both left and right click

    Left Click button is acting like both left and right click button HP 2000 Notebook PC

    Could you try to use another mouse? If the other mouse works perfect, then your mouse pad must be damaged and you should look to get it fixed or just use a mouse instead. If not, then the settings on how the clicks act must have been altered.
    Try to find a mouse to try first before looking at the settings for your mouse pad. You could maybe borrow one if anyone else has a computer with a mouse in your home.
    While you do that, I'll work on searching if this is common and if their is a solution if it's the software.

  • Can't type in form fields, acts like right mouse click.

    Using the mouse pad or magic mouse - anytime I single click in a fillable field it acts like a right or two finger click and will not let me type in the fields. It won't even let me type in URLs.

    I have this problem too. I've disabled all add ons except Foxtab 1.4.9 to no avail. The problem goes away when Foxtab is disabled. But I love Foxtab.
    Interesting discovery: everything is fine - I can type merrily along like I am here - until I click my mouse. Then the problem occurs. I have to go to another text box, type some stuff then come back. Both my Apple computers are experiencing the same problem. Both have wireless mac mice. Both started the same problem about 3 months ago. Not using my mouse gets round the problem but it's a pain because I am often cutting and pasting text into a text box. Any ideas?

  • HT201361 After taking the screenshot clicking on my trackpad just acting like right mouse click or 2 finger click. Could you help!

    After taking a screenshot command + Shift + 4, clicking on my trackpad is like right mouse click or 2 finger click. Please help!

    Maybe your trackpad battery is running low? If not I would suggest just restarting your Mac. Post again if those things don't fix your problem and some more involved problem-solving can be attempted.

  • Intuos3 pen tip acts like right click in Photohop CS4

    I have a Intuos3 5 wide. It works great in various applications under Windows Vista 32bit and the latest drivers.
    I'm using a normal Logitech mouse which is set to left-handed because I use the mouse with my left hand. The Intuos pen is set to the default right handed.
    So far no problems except for Photoshop CS4.
    In CS4 the pen tip acts like a right click. I can only draw or click when I keep de lower button on the pen pressed down. The eraser does exactly the same, thus showing the context menu).
    I tried to reverse the pen functions and the mouse handedness for Photoshop only but this didn't work the right way. I can assign a right click to the tip so I can draw and click as it should be. But I cannot do this for the eraser so I'm not satisfied with this workaround.
    I have this problem in Photoshop CS4 only. Not in Lightroom or Bridge (or other non Adobe programs). Anyone who can help me with this problem?

    Hey there,
    I definitely hear you about Split Motion. There is an enhancement request for supporting multiple layers, and adding it as a keyboard shortcut. The first one is tricky, but the second one is not. I think there was hope that splitting motions wouldn't be necessary much (especially since you have to be careful when doing so when eases are involved), which is why the eventual need for more functionality related to split motion was realized a bit late in the schedule.
    Now regarding other operations, such as you mentioned F5 to insert frames - that and other operations (inserting certain types of property keyframes, F6, and so on) work just fine.
    You can apply a shortcut to Create Motion Tween in the custom keyboard shortcut dialog.  Not all operations in the program are available though (most context menu items aren't), which is why unfortunately why we don't see Split Motion yet.
    It might be possible to avoid Split Motion though with another workflow. What are you using the feature for?  Just curious in case I can help.
    Jen.

  • Fire a left click when the right button is pressed

    I am working on a small program with a text area and mouse functionality. I have all my listeners in place but I need one additional feature and I am unsure how to go about implementing it. I want to be able to fire a left click when the right button is pressed.
    The reason is because right clicking does not move the caret around the text area. I need to be able to move the caret with a right click so I can then invoke another method to do some other functionality that is associated with the right click. Any method is acceptable as long as a right click will result in the caret being able to move to a location much like a left click can.
    all help is appreciated. Thanks.

    I'm not sure if this is "better", and my guess is that it isn't, but how about using a Robot object here to create a left mouse press and release? For instance,

    import javax.swing.JTextArea;
    public class RightClickAsLeft
      private JPanel mainPanel = new JPanel();
      private JTextArea area = new JTextArea(20, 50);
      private Robot robot;

        area.addMouseListener(new MyMouseListener());
      public JComponent getComponent()
        return mainPanel;
      private class MyMouseListener extends MouseAdapter
        @Override
        public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent e)
          int button = e.getButton();
          if (button == MouseEvent.BUTTON3)
            if (robot != null)
              robot.mousePress(InputEvent.BUTTON1_MASK);
              robot.mouseRelease(InputEvent.BUTTON1_MASK);
      private static void createAndShowUI()
        JFrame frame = new JFrame("RightClickAsLeft");

  • System acts as if I am pressing my Mighty Mouse side buttons.

    I have recently begun to experience issues where my system acts as if I am squeezing the side buttons. Sometimes it is find for hours, others it is constantly going back and forth acting like it is being pressed and released constantly.
    I tried a regular mouse from my wifes PC and it worked fine. Do I need to reload the OS or is there a repair option that will not delete the 150GB of data I have on my system. Or os there another solution.

    Hi dogstar20
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    For the last 2½ years I've had to leave the blasted touchy side buttons turned off!
    There's just something about the way I grip the mouse, no matter what system I use, mine, my (friends & neighbors), even the new models on display at BestBuy and the Apple Store.
    Go to: *Apple / System Preferences / Keyboard & Mouse / Mouse* and turn the Side Buttons off.

  • My menu bar is the same as the old one, why? my home button is at the left instead of the right.

    I downloaded 4.0 but my menu bar is the same. I still have "refresh", "home" button on the left instead of the right like the video shows. I do have the tab bar at the top but nothing else has changed.

    You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden (View > Toolbars > Customize or right-click a toolbar).

    Try A and B
    (A) Restart iPad
    1. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
    2. Drag the slider to turn off iPad.
    3. Turn iPad back on, hold down the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Reset iPad
    Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    Note: Data will not be affected.

  • The button on my track pad keeps acting like it's pressed down.

    I just noticed that the button for my track pad on my '08 MacBook Pro is acting like I'm pressing it down when I'm not even touching it.  I've tried to reset the track pad and restart my computer but it's not fixed the problem. I'm not exactly tech savvy so any detailed help would be welcomed.

    If the trackpad surface does not move down when pressed, the battery may have swollen and is pressing on the bottom of the trackpad.  The battery may explode or catch fire.   Take it to an Apple store for inspection.

  • Magic Mouse and MS Word 2011 (under OS 10.7, iMac middle 2011): Marking of word in a document stops after a few seconds while still pressing the left button and keep on moving the mouse (batteries full)

    Software: OS X Lion (10.7.4); Microsoft Word für Mac 2011, Version 14.2.2 (120421)
    Hardware: iMac 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 12 GB, magic mouse
    To mark several clauses in a doc-document (in MS Word 2011), I press the left mouse button and move the mouse along the words
    My problem:
    While still pressing the left button and moving the mouse, the marking on the screen stops and I can't change the already existing markings any more (to become less or especially more).
    Who knows:
    - why this happens and how I can abondon this behaviour?
    - is it a settings problem in MS Word 2011 or of OS X Lion?
    By the way:
    - I don't watch this behaviour in MS Excel 2011. There everything works fine.
    - The batteries are fully loaded and I'm about 30 to 40 cm (1") away from the iMac (RSSI: -60 dB)
    Thanks for answers.
