Mouse lost connection

Magic mouse and keyboard keep losing connection.  Tried changing batteries but still doesn't work.  Please help

I was having issues like this, so I brought it up to a gentleman in the Apple store.  He suggested changing the batteries, which you have done, and if that doesn't work, bring the magic mouse and keyboard into a Apple store so they can run a diagnostic test on that hardware.  It is possible they are effected by a known issue that can only be diagnosed in store.
If you have purchased within the last year, you should be covered.  Regardless, I have found Apple to be a very sympethetic company that tries very hard to help their customers enjoy their products, so I definately suggest you bring them into the store to run a quick test.
You may want to call ahead to book an appointent at the Genius bar, saving you an unexpected wait at the store.
Let me know if this helped, sharing is caring

  • Bluetooth Mouse "Lost Connection"

I keep getting a "Lost Connection" message with my bluetooth mouse even though I have plenty of battery life left? Does anyone know why or what I can do? Thanks!

    Steven,
I had the same symptom. I found that there was a problem with there not being enough pressure being applied by the metal strip inside the mouse cover to the switch next to the laser. It was intermittent enough that it would lose contact every so often, making the mouse think that it had been switched off.
Making a slight bend in the metal strip so as to keep more pressure on the switch seemed to solve the problem.

  • Magic mouse lost connection all the time

I have an iMac for 2 years, my magic mouse always lost the connection and the battery was always fine. I thought that was normal, and then I talked with some friends and they told me that this problems did not happen with them.
So, how could I fix it?
    Thanks!

UPDATE and additional info: This problem is still occurring.
Apply have been completely unhelpful so far, after a second phone call, I was just told (again) to restart my MBP, unpair and repair my mouse, and insert fresh batteries. I've also done the SMC and PRAM resets several times.
I'm using my MBP in clamshell mode connected to a BenQ GL2460 monitor. Running my MBP slightly ajar seems to temporarily help with he mouse lagginess but the problem soon reoccurs.
I've tested my mouse on a friends earlier model non updated MBP and the mouse works fine.
I went out a bought a Microsoft USB mouse and the same lagginess happens with it, albeit a lot worse.
I'm currently running both mice connected via bluetooth, which actually seems to be minimising the magic mouse lagginess, but the Microsoft mouse is still very laggy. So I wonder what having two mice connected simultaneously is doing?

  • Magic Mouse loosing Connection

My magic mouse looses connection with my iMac every few minuites to every few hours.  I have tried replacing the bateries several time.  The only way to make it reconnect is to put the computer to sleep and wake it back up a few times.  What can I do to stop this?

Greetings,  I had the same problem after the original batteries "died". New batteries 100% charged  after 1-2 min mouse lost connection. Tried Setup of bluetooth mouse many times + new batteries - same result.
Tried removal of com.apple.Bluetooth.plist - no difference.
On all my batteries there are a date/manufacturing code stamped in ink under the negative pole . I removed the ink - scraped away with a screwdriver and installed the batteries again. The Magic Mouse is now connected all the time.  This challenge took 3 hrs to solve - hope it will save someone some frustration.
    cheers t

  • My macbook pro(Lion 10.7.2) continually lost connection with the magic mouse, which charged well.

There is something wrong with my new macbook pro MD322(Lion 10.7.2). It continually lost connection with the magic mouse. I ensure that the mouse is charged well. I also looked up the matter on Web. It looks that the matter is familiar for many users.

I have a m-audio fast track pro that I'm having a similar problem when using it with my new Macbook Air. I found changing it to 16 bit will work.
I have a Apogee iMic that works fine so my guess is we will have to wait for Avid/M-Audio to update drivers.

  • Mighty mouse losing connection

I frequently suffer loss of connection of both the mouse and wireless keyboard. Sometimes the screen shows the usual lost connectivity symbols but not always. Batteries are NOT the issue. There are periods when the frequency is every few minutes and then days apart. The problem has been present with Tiger through to Snow Leopard. I am in danger of doing a Gordon Brown anytime soon. Can anyone help?

Add me to those who started having this problem after the 10.5.7 upgrade. I lose both the mouse and the keyboard about once or twice a day and the only way I can get it back is to open the MacBook and turn off Bluetooth and then turn it back on again.
I'm sure that true to Apple form, we'll hear no official replies here for something this insignificant, but one day there will be an update that mysteriously fixes this and we'll all forget about it. Happens all the time.

  • Mighty Mouse loses connection since 10.6.8 update

Hi I have recently installed the 10.6.8 OSX upgrade in preparations for the Lion release and I am having problems with Mighty Mouse losing connection.
Basically the mouse operates fine until the mouse is static whereby it loses connection, I then have to wiggle the mouse around and click the mouse to regain connectivity, if the mouse remains still for even a second it just drops again.
I have tried changing batteries, removing both my mouse and keyboard from the bluetooth preferences, adding them as favourites as well as doing the PRAM and SMC resets.
I only assume the problem is linked with 10.6.8 update because prior to this update the mouse was working without a hitch.
My keyboard appears to be working without the same problem.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

I encountered the same problem as you report after the upgrade to 10.6.8 on both my family's MacBook Pros. I had no problem with my MM up to that point. Thereafter, the MM would not work I went thru' the same steps as you did to try and overcome the problem. It pairs OK and says it is connected but the MM will not work. If you switch off the MM, a message is received "Connection Lost". The keypad mouse works as does an USB mouse, but no MM despite numerous attempts at resetting, clearing, replacing batteries, bluetooth reset, etc..  I am as baffled as you were and put the fault down to the SL upgrade, but I suppose the upgrade may (somehow) have blown the MM, but it still lights up and says it is connected!!. WEIRD!

  • Disable 'Lost Connection' Message...

    Hello,
I've broken my Wireless Mighty Mouse so i bought a Logitech v470 to replace it.
Logitech has it's own control center that also messages you when you connect and disconnect the mouse, is it possible for me to disable the 'Lost Connection' message sent by BT? I get two messages when i disconnect the mouse, one from BT and other one from Logitech and its kinda annoying...
    Thnkz in advance.

I have tried to use the Logitech V470 too and have the same issues. I have come to the conclusion that Bluetooth is nothing but trouble. Your right the Logitech Control center seems to work along with OS X. Every time I reboot my Bluetooth connection is gone and I have to try and reconnect or I cannot reconnect at all. I end up having to connect a USB mouse just to get things working! Best solution has been to ditch the logitech software and stick to just OS X connecting mouse. Still some issues with that like losing some features of the mouse and its tracking is more jumpy.

  • Apple mouse loses connection

My iMac's magic mouse persistently loses its bluetooth connection for intervals ranging from seconds to several minutes. This has been a problem since shortly after I got the Mac (2010), and I've replaced the mouse twice. It works for a while, and then the problem resurfaces. The last couple of days the mouse seems to go to sleep whenever the computer does and takes up to five minutes to reestablish its connection. The battery level is at 100%. There's nothing new on my desk that would cause interference. Any ideas?

I've read with interest this and various other threads on this problem.  Over the past few months my Magic Mouse has been losing connections very frequently - it's not the batteries!  Having plowed through various threads in this forum, there was a suggestion to delete some file /Macintosh HD/library/preferences/com.apple.bluetooth.plist.  Alas, under Maverick (10.9.*), this file seems to be protected.  However, I found another way to resolve the probelm:
Just remove the Mouse and let the Mac "find" the mouse again: System Preferences->Bluetooth to display the device.  Click on the x next to the mouse.  If you wait a few seconds after that, the Mac rediscovers the Mouse again.  I haven't lost connections for several hours now, and that's a first!

  • Magic Mouse Losing Connection When Slightly Knocked

I've had this particular mouse for just over a year and in the last 2 weeks it's started to lose the connection when it's knocked however slightly on the table - for example when repositioning the mouse when moving something between 2 screens.
I've tried all the usual fixes, new batteries, different batteries, trashing the mouse preferences (as suggested here) and making the mouse a BT favourite, but as soon as it even remotely gets knocked, it disconnects.
Really frustrating, have gone back to a cable mouse for now but does anyone have any ideas? Is it a genuine fault I can get sorted under my warranty?

OK I spent  A solid day playing with this and found that there are many correct"ish" answers here, but for the most part I have found that the physical tolerances of the Apple  magic mouse have caused all of my problems.
THe info about plists and resetting pram are all kind of obvious choices and may work for many people becasue the mouse screws up in that way on occasion.
For the rest of us, check my earlier post about tolerances. THe battery end plate is one problem. The inserted card thing by Ken Evans is one piece of the puzzle. However for me the biggest piece of the puzzle is the tolerances of the battery plate cover in general.
The piece that fell into place a day ago  ( a few hours afte my last post) is as follows:
Look closely at the plate  on the bottom of the mouse - notice how thin it is. Notice how closely it touches the on off switch. Notice that if the plate is tweaked even a little bit it twiddles the on off swich breaking connection. Notice how you use the mouse a- do you lift it and put it down and perhaps press on the plate etc.
Notice if you press and push and drop mouse etc - anything that twiddles the plate will nail that switch.
For me I found that the plate was tweaked  such that the middle of the plate  pressed harder against the batteries than the ends did. This effectively "shortened" the length of the plate by a smidge  which was just enough to constantly tweak the on off switch - ie put pressure on it with any major movements of the mouse - especially lifting it and putting it down when i ran to the end of my  pad.
I re-tweaked the plate in the opposite direction ( not for the klutz- this plate will buckle faster than a teenager with a false id). if you feel handy you can tweak it by springing it lightly against a pencil but I am not buying anyone a new plate  if you bend it.  I also took a small swiss rat-tail file and filed out the  switch hole a bit more - to make it a bit "longer" and hence not rub against the plate
Result is that  i went from  a lost connection about every minute to no lost connections for the last day. For me the  resetting of the pram and dumping the plist file did not help - hence i looked further.

  • Magic mouse loses connection with iMac

My brand new imac came with magic mouse. I immediately updated to mountain lion. Magic mouse occasionally drops connection and then reconnects after some time. During the time of disconnection I am unable to do any thing. Please tell me what to do.

Sound like my issue with the magic mouse. I notice the indicater green light was off when i lost lost my connection. Once I reinstalled the batteries the light would glow and my connection was temportarly restored. After losing my connection again; I reseated the batteries but I added a small cushion of folded paper. I made sure my cushion wasn't too thick so to allow for the battery cover. After my small mofication my mouse has not lost connection for over several weeks.

  • Magic Mouse Loses Connection

My Magic Mouse keeps losing its connection. Has any one else had this happen to them. I reapplied the update and had gone through the set again but the connection repeatedly is lost. Luckily I still have my wired mouse plugged in or my IMAC would be useless.

I was having the same problem... getting a real mouse with a cord fixed the problem instantly... the magic mouse is without question the worst thing to come out of apple since the mighty mouse... the connection goes in and out all day long... probably spent 10 minutes out of every hour waiting for lost connections... when it does work, you feel as though you have to press twice as hard, and hold on for dear life to keep the mouse working... I see the might mouse like dating the best looking girl in college even though she's as dumb as a fence post... it takes a long time to get past her looks, but once you do and dump her for something good looking and brighter, your life is a thousand times better... the amount of trouble a dumb girlfriend or rotten mouse provides isn't worth hanging it... avoid the magic mouse at all costs... it's not worth the trouble... it should be noted i lost the connection TWICE writing this post...
