Mouse on ibook g4?

Ok so my mouse on my ibook is being really weird. When I have to push really hard on it to get it to work. What should I do?

Are you using an USB mouse?
If so, what's exactly wrong?

  • Mighty Mouse on IBook G3 900 Mhz

    Hello,
    my name is Vincenzo.
I have a IBook G3 900 Mhz, without bluetooth module.
I'm interesting to buy Apple Mighty Mouse Wireless, and i have external USB - Bluetooth.
The Mighty Mouse is compatible with external Bluetooth?
    Thanks Vincenzo

Have you tried resetting the PMU? The PMU (Power Management Unit) has control over the backlight function, so resetting it may help.

  • Mouse for iBook?

Can anyone recommend a mouse I could buy for my iBook? I have arthritis and it's getting so bad that I have a hard time using the trackpad. On my desktop Mac I use a Kensington Trackball, which is great for my condition, but doesn't work with an Ibook. Thanks in advance.

    Anne,
Check out Apple's new Mighty Mouse.

  • Wireless Mouse for iBook

Has anyone found a good wireless mouse for the iBook?
    Thanks

I presume you mean the 600 Mhz iBook G3 in your profile. That particular Mac did not come with built-in bluetooth, but numerous USB to Bluetooth adapters are available, including a few from the Apple Store. That and Apple's Wireless Mighty Mouse would be a good combination.
Careful with Logitech mice, as their driver software does not always keep up to date with operating system updates. You can usually overcome this with software called Steer Mouse or another called USB Overdrive when those get updated, which is usually more frequently.

  • Pls recommend wireless mouse for iBook

I have an iBook with Bluetooth built in, and would like to get a cordless mouse to use with it. Can anyone recommend one? I would like one with the ability to right click, and am told that the Apple model is poor. Any suggestions much appreciated.

I have been using the Kensington "Pilot Mouse Mini Bluetooth" Model #72414 for about two months. I love it. Have never had to change the batteries (2 AA cells). Three buttons and a scrollwheel. Very happy with it. I have used it on a iBook Late 2004 and an iBook Mid 2005.

  • Mighty Mouse can't Scroll DOWN over Ads

Does anyone else have this issue?
Safari Beta (3.0.3), 10.4.10, USB mighty mouse.
When I go to some pages, say this one:
    http://gamers-creed.com/?p=230.
And scroll down over the ads, the scrolling stops. Scrolling up is fine. It's annoying because it fees like it's intentionally trying to get me to stop and read an ad.
I've narrowed it down to javascript, (off everything is fine) and possibly iFrames. Does anyone have any info, or know of a way to retain full scrollability (is that a word?) and keep evil javascript on?
    Thanks!

    Hi
I've noticed the same with both my iMac Mighty Mouse, and iBook Logitech Mouse. Both machines are using 3.0.3. This has been happening with Beta 3 from the get-go.
I've sent a bug report to Apple via the Safari Menu>Report Bugs to Apple.

  • 10.4.7 Crashes, NFS

I have an ibook G4, my main storage is on my linux server which I access via NFS. Recently OS X has been crashing for reasons unknown. When it first happened I was writing to the server and I unplugged the ethernet cable. I thought this was the cause. But recently it has been happening at random intervals such as when I'm connected to the drive and opening up an ssh session to burn a dvd in the server. Heres a picture of the most recent crash.
    http://deadhorse.no-ip.org/crash.jpg
When the laptop crashes it stops accepting input from the keyboard and mouse.
    Ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1 gig Ram
    Ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1 gig Ram

well i was sure you figured that out... you jsut seemed to be unfamiliar with a kp in general and made a statement that led me to belive you thought it odd the machine would accept no input in this state - i was merely saying that was normal behavior when this happens...
anyhow i meant trash/repair on the mac youre using (obviously) not the linux box. as i said im not a developer so i dont know if tthe error occured in relation to to a pageout/pagein or in realtion to actually writing data to the drive for storage... i would assume theyd both use the same IOKit so i figured start with the easiest things first.
Also check the logs on both boxes and see if there are any clues there.

  • Delivery and shipment

i just ordered a new iBook along side with airport express and a bluetooth mouse, the iBook is slowley on its away to me and the tracking says its currently "out for shipment" in amsterdam. I order the mouse and airport express at the same time but ive heard nothing about them and there tracking has no status at all. i was wondering if any of you had the same kinda thing or could help explain why this is??
    thanks Jason

None of us actually work for Apple, we're just users like yourself. I would recommend you call the Apple store you ordered your equipment from. They'll be able to help you track it and find out what the delay might be. All we can do is guess!

  • Mouse for my iBook?

Will this mouse work with my G3 iBook (OSX Tiger)? It's dirt cheap and looks to be fairly nice. I'd get one of those Mighty Mouse mice, but I've read things in the reviews in the Apple Store about how they seem to have issues and failure and junk.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=012&item=220022498034&rd=1&sspa gename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
If this one will not work, any suggestions on cheaper mice that will (under $30). I'd prefer something wireless and with a USB sticker than than the cabled adapter things like with desktop mice, in which case I might as well get a corded mouse.
EDIT: Never mind about the MS mouse from eBay. According to MS's site, it will work with a Mac.

Anyway, any suggestions on other mice? I really like the look and feel of Apple mice, but need a scroll wheel (and am worried about the reliability of the Apple Mouse).

It doesn't say it will work with OS X 10.4. It says 10.2-10.3. It could be that they just haven't updated the web page, but I would want to ask about it.
In my experience, almost any mouse will work. I bought a little-bitty one at WalMart that didn't even say it would was Mac compatible (because my son uses Windows, so I knew he could use it if I couldn't), and it works fine. (I've not tried a wireless mouse, though.)
Logitech makes some nice mice, and they aren't expensive, either, although you will pay more dearly for the wireless version.

  • 3rd party USB mouse won't work with G4 iBook 10.3.9

3rd party USB mouse (see specs below)won't work with G4 iBook 10.3.9.
    http://www.inland-products.com/singleproduct.asp?search=usb&partnum=07340-SpecR
I notice the specs say this mouse works with windows(no mention of Mac) yet the guy where I bought it assured me it would work fine with a Mac. The keyboard/mouse preferences shows a muouse but there is no movement or response from mouse. I would assume it was not reading it if not from appearance of "mouse" preference. I also have intalled UBBoverdrive in hopes that that might help but device/mouse menue does not appear to support mouse.
Is there a way to get this to work or should I just return it to the vendor?
Can anyone suggest a good CHEAP 3n button mouse for Mac?

The name of that mouse is deceiving. It is not a USB mouse it is a wireless mouse. Unfortunately without the proper OS X drivers for the USB/wireless adapter you won't be able to get that thing to work.
If you are looking for an inexpensive USB mouse, checkout the Kensington Mouse in a Box Optical.
Does your iBook have Bluetooth? If so take a look at the Kensington PilotMouse Mini Bluetooth Mouse. I have one of these and it works great.

  • IBook G4: wired mouse stopped suddenly.

My husband's iBook G4, purchased in Dec 2004 is used only for internet, email, and solitaire. The mouse has stopped working. Tried the mouse on my iMac and all mice worked perfectly. What do I look for, is it too old to repair? Also tried bluetooth mouse and it won't work either. I can't see paying a lot for repair if I should just replace. Thank you in advance.

I take it the trackpad mouse works, but a plug in mouse is the problem.
If you do the following, you may form an opinion whether the USB hardware has failed on the iBook.
    1. Does the iMac's mouse work on the iBook?
    2. Are no mice working on either of the two USB ports on the iBook?
    3. Does any other USB device work on the iBook, like a memory stick?
The possible reason the bluetooth mouse fails is because the iBook does not have Bluetooth. Checking About This Mac, (then click on More info), would reference Bluetooth if it existed.
If the USB is shot then it is probably not worth fixing. It is possible to attach an external Bluetooth device, but as these use the USB port, if broken would be pointless.
You could try Resetting the PRAM and NVRAM. to resurrect the USB port. A slim chance but give it a go.

  • OS 10.4.11 on iBook G4 mouse selection problem

I have a rebuilt iBook G4 (after hard disc crash) which I have 'wound  back' at least 5 years to encourage  compatibilities. (At the moment I can't afford to upgrade.)  So I'm sticking with Panther (10.4.11), Firefox 3.0.19, Eudora 6.2.4, iTunes 6, Office 2004.  It's fine except for a persistent problem with mouse key input freezes.  Mouse tracking is fine, keyboard input continues, but mouse input to all applications and OS becomes impossible and there is no way out but to restart.
I've tried changing back to an old ball-mouse (it's not the mouse drivers), switching off Firefox plugins (don't think it's them), Alt-Command-Esc force quitting Firefox and then other applications.  I've searched the back pages of the net for insights (lots of memory problems with Panther causing mouse failure, but not this particular problem.
    Any memories ?
    Iain

    Hello Iain,
Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
TenFourFox is the most up to date browser for our PPCs, they even have G4 & G5 optimized versions, but the newest version doesn't support any plugins at all, so look for an older one...

SeaMonkey seems pretty fast also, with many options...

PS. Panther is 10.3.x, 10.4.x is Tiger.

  • IBooks mouse and touch events

We have an issue with our interactive books on the ipad. We are using epub3, javascripts and event listeners. All interactivity works perfectly on the ipad using eventlistener for touch. When we download the book to mac-maverick-ibooks there is no issue with the mouse events working on the touch events.. Apple want the books to include javascript to handle both touch or mouse events for each device. We attempted to include mouse events with the touch events without success.  Does anyone know how to handle this.  This is a snippet of the code we triede to use without success.
    var eventName = "click";
    if (navigator.epubReadingSystem.hasFeature('touch-events')) { eventName = "touchstart"; }
    if (document.getElementById('openpopup')) { document.getElementById('openpopup').addEventListener(eventName,popup,false); }

Many Thanks Richard.. sorry for the delay I was away traveling ..I havn't done anything to my pc as yet , but the problem seems to have gone... My son said it was probably because I put some new applications on and maybe this had something to do with it, but it seems to have sorted itself out now..but I will keep your suggestion ready incase it happens again .. thank you again Phil

  • Using mouse to scan over timeline, ibook response is slow.

    Hey,
I'm having some problems running FCE.
When using the mouse to scan over the timeline, The ibook is slow to respond when viewing the sequence in the Canvas window.
Making it jitter and not accurate with the mouse.
Is their a way to maybe reduce the quality of the video i'm seeing, so my ibook can cope? - but without reducing the quality of the final exported video.
    Thanks
    Ollie

    Hey -
i'm running FCE2 with all latest updates installed.
i'm using my externalHD as my scratch disk (usb.2).
When i'm using fce usually have itunes running in the background... also the itunes library is stored on the externalHD ... is this whats causing the delayed reactions in fc?
also to add, i'm on a small network of 6 (aebs & airport express)
    Thanks
    Ollie

  • HT203171 My mouse sticks and won't move on my iBook

My mouse freezes up non my Mac iBook
    How do I fix this?

You should take it in where you bought it and have them take a look at it.  If there is a problem with it, it's still under warranty and can be sent in for repair or replaced.
