Mouse pointer acting up

I have my mouse pointer acting up for about 2 month now.
Iets start to say yes i do download movies alot and burn them or delet them onces im done with them. But my mouse pointer begain going nuts ie:
switchig screens, opening random folders or apps, no responding to my commands. At first i though it was the build in mouse mell functionings. I connected extrnal wired mouse and that did that trick for a couple of days but problem began to reapear.
I will active random commands and some times i cant shut down my laptop without doing hard shut down.
I did full system restore using Apple cds but that only solved my problem temporariliy.
I think it mights be the virus but reading these forums im not so sure.
Laptop with  do random zoom in fuctions while in safari.
Its at the point where im ready to take it in to Apple or Geek squad but i know it will cost me an arm and a leg if they solve the issue.
The only time i can normaly use my laptop is if i keep it shut down and keep it off for extended perioud of time
If any one have any sudjestions plz help

First few times I used the Magic Mouse it worked fine. Now I have the same problem I did with old wireless mouse -- pointer goes to middle of screen and then drops to bottom. Keyboard recognizes mouse, and MM will open icons along bottom of screen, but will not function above about 1/2" of bottom of screen. Can't scroll up to close open programs, can't scroll to the left to Finder, etc. Have replaced batteries a couple of times, have rebooted (including powering completly off). No luck. Have an iMac, working in Snow Leopard.

  • Macbook pro, mouse pointer acting like paint brush after sleep mode

This just started recently, I went into Systems Preference and tried alternating various point/gestures etc. w/o any luck. Not using any other mouse. What did I do to create this, the only way to stop the brush from erasing the page is to powerdown.

  • Changing the mouse pointer to a cursor?

    Hi,
I am using a graph or perhaps a polar plot, not sure yet, but I realy wanted to know if there is any way to make the mouse pointer act like a cursor, such that I can click on something on the graph and know where the mouse clicked (the coordinates) and perhaps change the appearance of the hand to something else? So I DO NOT have to use a cursor. I want the user to just click and not have to drag a cursor around.

Check out the Gtoolbox at gtoolbox.topcool.net. It has the functionality you are looking for.

  • Control mouse pointer without the mouse

    Hello,
My Mac Mini seems to no longer recognize my mouse. It has been fine for nearly a year though. Both the mouse and keyboard are wireless. The pointer does not move when I move the mouse, but when I press the return button on the keyboard the computer does wake from sleep mode. I don't know how to control the pointer without the mouse though.
The issues seem to have started when my new version of iTunes seemed to start acting up. The bar at the top of the screen shows that it thinks it is still in iTunes. The computer has been manually turned off and restarted and still comes up the same way, with the mouse pointer in the same spot.
Does anybody know what the issue may be and also how I can control the pointer without the mouse? I apologize for the lack of knowledge as I'm used to a pc and do not know the keyboard controls on a Mac. Thank you.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
You should always have an inexpensive USB mouse and keyboard for times such as this. After you have gotten a USB mouse, you can get one at Target for US$10, drag & drop the iTunes app into the Trash. Restart your Mac and while you are at it do a PRAM reset. Then download iTunes from this link and reinstall. Hopefully this will resolve your issues.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    Reset the PRAM
    • (Re)start the computer
    • Immediately press & hold the CommandOption+PR keys
    • Wait for two startup chimes
    • Release the keys and allow the computer to boot.
Also, do you ever repair the disk permissions on your Mac? To repair the disk permissions open Disk Utility in the Apps/Utilities folder. Highlight your startup drive in the list on the left with one mouse click. In the right pane press Repair Permissions. Wait for it to finish.

  • MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.3 update freezes mouse pointer

After installing the update released today 5/28 (MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.3) my mouse pointer stalls, freezes on occasion. Very annoying. Anyone seeing the same. Fixes ... ?

After applying the SMC Firmware update a few days ago, my keyboard and trackpad were acting erratic (freezing, hanging). It was immediately after the update and I had not had any problems with it before.
I have also had random crashes, inability to use the keyboard/trackpad ever since.
Today my keyboard and trackpad are completely unusable, external mouse works fine.
I will take it to an Apple store tomorrow, hopefully my firmware can be reverted.
Sounds like a lot of other people are having problems with this update. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9549034&tstart=0#9549034

  • Strange mighty mouse pointer: arrow gone

My mouse pointer has been acting strange recently (maybe connected to 10.4.3?); it seems to only be in Safari not in Finder or other programs. The mouse pointer normally adapts to what it's over: it's a thin vertical line when over text, a hand when things can be moved, and usually an arrow. But now it's turning to a text-line icon as soon as it enters the safari screen, whether it's over text or not. If I right click it twice it goes back to arrow, but otherwise it's the wrong pointer. This is most annoying when I'm using the scroll bars or trying to click tabs (since it's not intuitive to scroll using a text edit vertical line, and even more difficult to close a tab with a line rather than arrow!).

Actually got solved by pulling usb plug out of keyboard and plugging it back in. I think it was caused when I pulled out the keyboard usb from back of machine, somehow messed up the mouse which was plugged into it.

  • Mouse is acting strange (only in PS)

In every other application, a short move in the mouse goes from side to side of the screen but is not happening in PS. The ratio tablet-screen is 1:1 now. If the cursor is in the center of the screen and I lift the mouse and put it down again at a different area of the tablet, it won't stay in the center of the screen but move to the screen point relative to the tablet (am I being clear?).  I set mouse acceleration and mouse speed to the max and nothing changes.
    I'm using PS CS5 and Wacom Intuos3

I did and they are all the same. Not that I can do too much with the mouse mapping. The pen has the Full or Portion options but not the mouse. My pen is set on full because that is what I want and it moves fast. The mouse is acting as in Full, but moving slower than the pen.

  • Mouse pointer unresponsive or lock-up

I have three mouse problems that occur at different times.
    1. Mouse pointer active, moves around the screen, but won't click to select. force quit application doesn't cure the problem. A force quit with power key will restart mac, and generally return computer to normal.
    2. Related to #1, when computer restarts, mouse arrow pointer turns to text insert tool and acts by selecting or highlighting items on the screen will not respond to mouse click. Requires a second restart to correct problem.
    3. Mouse locks in upper left hand corner, and is totally unresponsive to movement or mouse clicks.
    Again restart will cure problem.
This seems to be mouse related, since keyboard short cuts still work and will allow selection with enter key. I'm baffled. Is there a reset program, or which pref should I delete in case it has become corrupted.

My mouse pointer recently experienced the 'no click' issue that you described and I resolved it by turning the mouse (wireless) off and on. If you have a USB mouse you might try unplugging it and plugging it back in.
My issue does not seem to recur regularly but since you are having recurring issues you should first try verifying whether your startup disk has any file system issues: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1782.

  • What is the mouse pointer called on mac os x snow leopard?

What is the mouse pointer called on mac os x snow leopard?

Probably spelled it that way because that is what I felt like doing to mine at that moment, since it decided to act up on its own, flying around the screen like something out of Harry Potter!   Back under control now.

Also few other questions i have is that is it normal that those 6 leds on the top of the cpu socket kinda flashes randomly, almost acts like hdd led LOL? And then what is that Intel MEI software under downloads and do i need it? Atm i only have chipset, network, sound and gfx drivers installed.

  • Safari won't open and wheel (mouse pointer) keeps spinning

    Hi guys.
I'm going crazy here as everything I've read and tried doesn't work?
I've deleted cache files, history, plug-ins etc etc and every time I try and launch Safari, I keep getting the spinning wheel/beach ball/mouse pointer and safari doesn't open?
I've received the following long error message and it may as well be in Arabic as I haven't got a clue what it means?
Any techies out there who could shed some light "Error message for dummies' style please?
    This is the report error.
    Cheers,
    Marc

You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • When a link is rolled over by the mouse pointer a very annoying pop up with the link address shows up. There seems to be no way to prevent this from happening. How can this pop up be made to go away?

no matter what website, every time I move the mouse pointer over something to click on a line of black printing in a thin white box pops up at the bottom of the screen and shows me the http address of the item I'm about to click on. I want to shut this function off or remove it if possible. I find that the previous version did not do this, it seems to be unique to 6.0. It's VERY distracting and ANNOYING. How can I make it go away????

When you hover the mouse cursor over any link, it will display the link details at the bottom left of the screen; black font on white background.
This display can be very important as it shows the full address of the hyperlink. This can be particulary useful for checking on whether the link is bona-fida. For example; if you receive an email that looks like it is from a bank , hovering over the link will indicate instantly that the link is pretending to be something it isn't.
Another example that can be useful; a website link may say 'contact me' rather than give the actual email address. However, when you hover over the link, the actual email address will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. If you click on the link then Outlook usually opens, however I do not use Outlook, so displaying the email address is useful.
This display is something that has always been present and it is also displayed if you use IE.
However, I can see that this annoys you, so you could try the following:
After installing the addon, you will need to restart Firefox, then go to History and Restore previous session to get all your tabs and webpages back.
You will now find that when you hover over any link, it will now display in your address bar on the right hand side.
If this helps, please say this question has been solved.

Does anyone have an idea how I can fix it? I have already downloaded updates, both from Adobe and Windows. I have a new pc with window 8.1.

It could be a coincidence, but I rebooted the machine and (knock on wood) PSE13 seems to be working ok.

  • C655D 5210 tosiba black screen with mouse pointer

I have only had this computer for 8 months. One day I turned it on, and windows kept restarting. After a few trouble shooting steps off the internet, I decided to reinstall windows 7 and lose my data and start all over. The first time it could not repair the computer and asked me to send the information to microsoft. Cannot boot in safe mode, I can get to the setup utility screen. This is a new Windows 7 cd. After several tries, it installed and said it had to restart, (this may happen several times) it only restarted once, then a black screen with a cursor. When I try to boot from the cd, the windows logo apppears, then a black screen with mouse pointer again. Toshiba is no help at all. This is my third Toshiba laptop. The first one did the same thing. But it was out of warranty, the amount they wanted to charge us, i just got another one. My mom's Toshiba just died with no real reason, the old one is in the garbage, and this one is only 8 months old. Toshiba would like us to send the computer in, pay for shipping, wait for 3 weeks, pay to ship it back to us, with a promise that it may not work.

  • Mouse pointer Problem with CS3 and windows 7

    Upgraded
to a new PC which has Windows 7(32bit) as an operating system. Installed my Photoshop CS3 and everything seems ok except when I magnify in the navagator panel. Once I zoom in my mouse pointer changes to 3 hands in the navigator panel. I powered up my old laptop which has Vista and my CS3
then matched up the mouse settings in the control panel on the new PC. Used the same usb mouse on both PC's, the older Vista laptop worked fine but the windows 7 PC would get a tripple pointer in the navigation panel when I magnified. In the windows 7 laptop I then set the compatibility for Photoshop CS3 to run in XP mode but the problem did not clear. I see in FAQ for CS4 people have complained about tripple cursers in windows 7 but the replies indicated that the recommended fix did not work. Any help apreciated.
    Tom

Thanks for your solution. I by changing the setting to 125% I am now able to use CS3 without tripple pointers.
My eyesight is challenged so the decrease in text is a challenge but I can change the setting when I will use CS3 so I have a workarount.
    Thanks,
    Tom
