Mouse pointer behavior on wizard roadmap

Hi,
I posted a related question in VC7.0 forum about navigation to wizard steps using the wizard roadmap:
When I point my mouse on the wizard roadmap, the mouse pointer changes as if I could click on it. Since direct access of wizard steps doesn't seem to be possible in VC7.1, the behavior of the mouse pointer is quite confusing for the user.
Are there any changes in the pipeline?
Best regards,
Kevin

Hi Kevin
I tried to reproduce the behavior you are describing on VC7.1SP3, but the pointer does not change to clickable mode (a hand) when i place it over the step.
I tried both WD/HTML and WDFlex runtimes.
Can you please specify which version and SP are you using and which runtime?
Thanks,

  • Odd GUI mouse pointer behavior

I have noticed since Lion came out the ability to resize from any window edge has seemed to have brought with it a minor annoyance. The mouse pointer form persists as an up-pointing arrow after the pointer leaves the bottom edge of an application if it is brought down to butt with the dock. Ought it not return to the "main" form of the familiar heftier-looking black arrow pointing to an approximate 11 o'clock direction?
Also, along the same lines I have noticed that if Stacks list-style menus overlap hyperlinks in Safari and you hover your mouse pointer over those areas of overlapping the pointer turns into the hand-with-an-index-finger-pointing type of pointer form. The clicking behavior remains true as one would expect and clicks the item in the Stack menu while leaving the stuff underneath alone.
Does anyone else get any of this strange behavior? I am putting it in Mountain Lion because it is also in 10.8 as it was in 10.7 Lion. It was not in 10.6 Snow Leopard and I am somewhat convinced that the "any edge resizing" feature is responsible for bringing this about.

I had to reinstall Mountain Lion and I am having the same mouse problem in Safari with a hand appearing at certain times. I never had that problem in prior iterations of OS X nor in Mountain Lion until I had to reinstall it. The hand it too large to figure out where it is when I want to insert something in text. I suppose it's the pointing index finger, but I want my arrow pointer back!

  • Erratic Apple mouse-pointer behavior?

I made the pointer bigger with the wired USB mouse that came with my Mac Pro.
It does the same with my other Apple Pro mouse.
I bought a new mouse-pad, the old was dirty.
The pointer jumps all over, sometimes it does not move, or moves where I can't find it.
Very time-cosuming frustrating situation!plenty of space, memory running 10.6.8.

If the mouse clicks something on its own then it looks like you have a hardware problem with the trackpad or possibly the battery that is right underneath the trackpad.
I have read that the battery can swell and that would put pressure on the trackpad.

  • T43p - Mouse pointer freezes after changing the battery to a new one

    Hello,
I have bought a new battery for my IBM Thinkpad T43p. In the description of the new battery I have seen that this battery is compatible with T43 series. Battery details are: DC 10.8V 5200mAh/56Wh. Replace: 08K8214.
    My problem is:
I have ordered a new battery for my Thinkpad T43p but when I turned off  the notebook and replace the old battery with the new one the notebook became strange. I use Windows XP Prof on this computer and when the login screen appeared and during I was typing my user name and password the mouse pointer was freezed and I had to turn off the computer. It was happened within approx 1 minute after the Login screen appeared. The symptom was the same with or without plugged in AC charger. I have tried several times and the same behavior was happened. When I changed back the old battery the computer became normal again without any freezing. The fan was working properly in both cases. The symptom is the same if I change the battery during AC charging and using Windows.
I don't have an idea about the reason of it. Can you help me with ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Slider

Pull the battery out and run the machine on AC only. Does it freeze now?
If it doesn't, the "new" battery needs to be replaced.
    Good luck.

  • Undo bug, mouse pointer disappears?

Is just me or everyone has that annoying "undo" bug?
That's what happens: when I press UNDO speedgrade starts to behave strangely.
    - If I press undo after clicking right mouse button (and I'm moving a color wheel with mouse) comes out a message "optimizing timeline" and timeline thumbnails are shown under the timeline. Sometimes there is a worst scenario: mouse pointer disappears and I have to quit SG and reopen to get my pointer back.
    - Pressing ctrl-z without right mouse button clicked (outside wheel edit mode, or whatever it is called..) sometimes works, sometimes appears the annoying progress bar "optimizing timeline" and several steps of undo are taken, even if I pressed cmd+z just one time.
I use undo A LOT, and now I'm not confident using it because of this strange behavior (I'm on osx).
Are you experiencing the same problems?

You won't believe this but just cleaning a mouse can improve performance... read the following:
How to Clean a Mechanical Mouse
This article explains when and how you should clean a mechanical mouse. It does not apply to the the Apple Pro Mouse.
You should clean a mouse if it is does not track smoothly, or if it jumps or skips. A mouse contains a small ball that must roll smoothly for the mouse to work properly. You should keep this ball free of dirt and oil by using the mouse on a clean, lint-free surface, and cleaning it occasionally.
Use the following procedure to clean a mouse:
    1. Turn off your computer.
    2. Turn the mouse upside down and rotate the plastic ring on the bottom counterclockwise to release it.
    3. Turn the mouse right side up with one hand and catch the ring and ball with your other hand.
    4. Clean the three small rollers inside the mouse with a cotton swab moistened with water. Rotate the rollers to clean all around them. If there is a build-up of material on the rollers that the cotton swab does not remove, you can use your fingernail to gently remove the material.
    5. Wash the mouse ball in soapy, warm water with a mild soap such as a dishwashing liquid if oil from your hands has collected on it. Be sure to dry the mouse ball thoroughly.
    6. Gently blow into the mouse case to remove any accumulated dust.
    7. Put the mouse ball back in the mouse case and replace the retaining ring.
If cleaning the mouse as described does not correct your issue, the mouse may need to be replaced. Have an Apple Authorized Service Provider check it for excessive wear or other failure.
If that doesn't do the trick, if this is a mouse that required 3rd party drivers, you might try reinstalling the drivers. Also, try going back to default Mouse preferences on all Users, see if makes a difference.

  • Flickering mouse pointer on KDE

I'm running the latest KDE4 from Arch repo, fglrx, three monitor setup. Had been previously running Gnome, but uninstalled that and switched to KDE4. Started getting a flickering mouse pointer with KDE, which is really annoying. Sometimes it looks like a block is following the pointer around behind it. If it weren't for this flickering pointer, I'd be pretty dang happy right now.
Any ideas how to fix this while still being able to use fglrx? I need it for my EyeFinity setup.

Same problem here flickering on/off mouse pointer with a vbox install. Tried turning off all desktop effects. Mouse pointer "style" also changes, depending on where it's at. Must be normal behavior based on the no reply.....
No "show desktop" function located where I want it in the panel was the last straw deal breaker for me. Tried KDE back in the 3.x versions, at first stable 4.x, and now again.
It's obviously just not for me....  Wasn't going to switch from XFCE , just investigating options should XFCE ever loose direction and end up the train wreck as Gnome3/shell has become.

  • Mouse pointer jumping around the screen

My mouse pointer has just started jumping around the screen. It vibrates and slowly moves down the screen even if I am not touching it. I have cleaned the sensor but that has not helped. I unplugged it and the pointer still jumped around.
Any ideas what might be causing this as I have not seen quite this problem on other discussions.

    HI,
That's interesting... restart your iMac. See if that makes a difference.
Also, do you have anything nearby that might cause interference, like a cell phone or graphics tablet?
May sound crazy, but dust and lint build up on a mouse pad can cause erratic cursor behavior.
You could try deleting this file.
    com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your iMac.

First: I'm afraid my English is not good enough (I speak Spanish).
    So,
Sometimes the mouse pointer disappears but it's still able to click. It reappears when I do right click. Also, sometimes the pointer have a strange behavior, like crazy movements very fast. I just wait 10 second and it work fine again. I don't know if anyone here have this problems too.

  • Mouse pointer freeze

hi i recently buyed a macbook, but from time to time the mouse pointer freezes for a few seconds.I disabled already the two fingers option from the touchpad,(found that suggestion in a forum ) but without success. Is that problem known, or has somebody an idea what that could be ? Thanks for help!

This has been happening to my MacBook Pro for the past few months now. At first I thought it was a bad mouse, but I've tried 3 known good mice and they all exhibit the same problem.
    Another behavior I'm seeing:
When the freeze occurs, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th mouse buttons all lose the the functionality I've assigned to them (Exposé functions) and revert so some odd behavior: In Safari, button 4 simulates clicking the 'Back' button. On most other apps, nothing happens. Button 5 is the same except with the 'Forward' button in Safari. If I wait a couple of seconds, the mouse and buttons start working as normal.
Is this happening to you as well?

  • Mouse pointer jumping around since 10.10.3

    Dear all.
Since 10.10.3 upgrade my mouse pointer is jumping around all over the place.
First i thought it was maybe a bluetooth issue (i am using magic mouse) so i disabled that.
But.. without active magic mouse, the mouse pointer still keeps jumping.
So now my macbookpro has become almost unworkable.
    Anyone ?

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and in that case the unit must be serviced or replaced.
    3. Open the Bluetooth pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    4. If your model has an infrared receiver for use with an Apple Remote, disable it.
    5. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    6. Reset the System Management Controller.
    7. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad or mouse, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    8. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    9. A defective peripheral device or a damaged cable can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to behave erratically. If you're using any wired peripherals, disconnect them one at a time and test.
    10. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    11. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    12. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

  • Mouse Pointer Flicker Problem!

This is the single most irritating problem behavior I have in CS5.
Very often after choosing a new tool, especially a new brush size/hardness from the palette, the mouse pointer begins to flicker.  It fairly rapidly alternates between an arrow and brush.  It flickers somewhat faster when moved, and doesn't stop flickering until drawing takes place (i.e. I touch the Intuos Stylus to the pad, or left-click the mouse)

Yes.  Last update was 6.1.5 in March.

  • Mouse pointer jumps to corner of secondary screen

We just upgraded to a new server running the latest Solaris with Sun VDI 3.1 which includes Sun Ray Server Software 4.2. I have multihead enabled and have 3 stations with dual-monitors/Sun Rays. On the second monitor, especially when dragging or scrolling, the mouse pointer jumps to the top-left of the screen. All three of us are experiencing this. Two have xinerama extension enabled, one does not have it enabled and says he's seeing the same behavior with the mouse. We have mix of Sun Ray 1G's and 2's, and one I'm using is a 170. I did not experience this with our old server running SRSS 3.1. Anything I can do to fix this problem? I appreciate any help.

Do you know when the next patch is due?Patch schedules are highly unpredictable. This patch is now in what's supposed to be its final QA cycle but if QA finds problems, or if a serious new issue is reported (especially if it's a security issue) then the whole thing might have to be rebuilt and possibly resynchronized with other patches in progress, and then retested on all supported platforms (which means reassigning QA resources that had been committed to other efforts). The best case for this patch that has reached this stage of the process might be two or three weeks. The worst case could be a month or two.
Alternatively, is there a hotfix available as many of our users are having difficulty at the moment. If you have a support contract then you can open and escalate a support call against the bug. After the escalation has been filed you can request an "IDR" ("Interim/Diagnostic Relief"), which is essentially an early build of the patch that contains the intended fix for that bug. The IDR will not have been tested by QA so there's some risk involved in taking it. This is one reason why we don't routinely publish IDRs. You have to decide whether that risk is outweighed by the pain the bug is causing.

  • Change Mouse Pointer Look

    Hi,
I have a show/hide layers behavior setup on an image - when
the image is clicked. It works just fine. However, when you hover
the mouse over the image, the mouse pointer doesn't change to the
hand, like it would with a link. Is there any way to get the mouse
pointer to change to the hand when it is hovering over the image?
    Thanks,
    Lynn

Open the page in DW. Select the image and look at the
    behaviors panel.
Change the Event from onClick to <A> onClick, using the
    drop-down list of
    events in the behaviors panel.

  • Safari won't open and wheel (mouse pointer) keeps spinning

    Hi guys.
I'm going crazy here as everything I've read and tried doesn't work?
I've deleted cache files, history, plug-ins etc etc and every time I try and launch Safari, I keep getting the spinning wheel/beach ball/mouse pointer and safari doesn't open?
I've received the following long error message and it may as well be in Arabic as I haven't got a clue what it means?
Any techies out there who could shed some light "Error message for dummies' style please?
    This is the report error.
    Cheers,
    Marc

You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
