Mouse pointer error since 10.6.7 upgrade
I have a 13" MacBook from late 2008. Since I upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.7 it happens, when I wake it up from sleep, that the mouse pointer is showing a graphic error. It is not showing it's normal Icon, it is showing some black pixel grouped irregular into a rectangle.
A good first step to try is a new user account, this will tell us wether it's something to do with your user account or if it's something to do with the system, if it happened after the 10.6.7 update it might be a system issue.
If it's user specific, try starting up in safe mode and putting the computer to sleep, this will isolate any applications and hardware running that might be causing this
If it's system wide, try re-applying the 10.6.7 update by downloading and installing the Combo Update from this link (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1361)

Why am I getting 'out of application memory' error since 10.9.1 upgrade
HI All,
I've been on mac's since 1991. Have owned and run dozens of them. I'm no newbie - but this has me beat.
I have a mid 2010 MacPro, in my main edit suite running FCPX etc etc for video production.... and since the upgrade to Mavericks 10.9.1, The machine can't even brows a webpage without giving me an 'out of application memeory' error.
I'm running with my OS on a 1TB SSD, the system has 32Gig of ram.
I had downgraded to 10.9, and found that was OK... but oddly, my system re-upgraded itself and now I'm stuck in a loop agin. Ugh.
My wish: to fix whatever is causing this problem on 10.9.1.
Ideas, anyone?
Cheers,
Kearon @ Makinnoize MediaHI Linc,
Thanks Linc for your assistance on this, I appreciate it.
Right now, I have just restarted after re-installing 10.9.1. All seems to be OK... for now (I've done this 3 times...hence now looking to the apple commiunity for answers)

Strange New Error Since RAM and HD Upgrade
Recently I added more RAM to my machine, I went from 8gb to 32, this update forced me to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro because Win 7 home edition is limited to 16GB, I also added a second hard drive and the files I am working with are on this new hard drive.
When I attempt to publish an Apple .IPA file via Adobe AIR I get this wall of errors. It does not happen every time but when it does it takes many restarts to get it to publish. Any ideas?Ah thanks for clarifying 64bit to 64bit upgrade.
When you say blue screen (BSOD) the first thing that always comes to mind is memory issues. It doesn't even matter if you buy the same brand/model/size sticks, they can conflict with each other and blue screen you. The only way to avoid this is typically buy only matched sets (the manufacturer guarantees the RAM was tested together and is packaged together). That doesn't mean buying 2 separate paired sets is the same, they can conflict with each other.
One easy way that just takes patience is to use the good old Prime95 test. I recommend you download it and let it run for at least an hour on the torture test. It will attempt to make your RAM create a mistake, blue screen you, etc. If it does, you may have a RAM issue. I say "may" because it will test your processor, FSB and RAM all together. If it does make a blue screen, try removing all but one module of RAM and test again. If that passes, pair it up and try again. Eventually you will find the RAM combo that is failing if that's the issue.
You can get Prime95 here:
http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/ (direct link)
Don't sign up for GIMPS (unless you want to), just use the software for the testing purpose.
Lastly many modern motherboards support memtest86 directly in the BIOS menu (press delete, F1 or whatever your motherboard mentioned at PC startup). See if it's in the advanced or troubleshooting menus. That is the industry standard way to test RAM but it's not as easy as Prime95. If you don't have memtest86 in the menu you can download it here:
http://download.cnet.com/Memtest86/3000-2086_4-10524193.html
Note memtest86 is a CD image. You burn that onto a CD and then boot off the CD. It does not run in Windows.
If your memory checks out, that only leaves the HD as a potential issue. If your system reliably blue screens often, taking it out to see if it's causing it should be pretty easy. -
Mouse pointer jumping around since 10.10.3
Dear all.
Since 10.10.3 upgrade my mouse pointer is jumping around all over the place.
First i thought it was maybe a bluetooth issue (i am using magic mouse) so i disabled that.
But.. without active magic mouse, the mouse pointer still keeps jumping.
So now my macbookpro has become almost unworkable.
Anyone ?There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not apply in your case.
1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
2. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and in that case the unit must be serviced or replaced.
3. Open the Bluetooth pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
4. If your model has an infrared receiver for use with an Apple Remote, disable it.
5. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
6. Reset the System Management Controller.
7. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad or mouse, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
8. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
9. A defective peripheral device or a damaged cable can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to behave erratically. If you're using any wired peripherals, disconnect them one at a time and test.
10. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
11. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
12. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested. -
Can't undo a Huge Mouse Pointer after upgrading from Tiger to Leopard.
I did an upgrade from Leopard to Tiger.
When I was on Tiger, I had a setting for a huge mouse pointer. I upgraded to Leopard. No matter how many times I reset the pointer to small, when restarting it goes back to huge.
How can I fix this?gaccawi,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
No matter how many times I reset the pointer to small, when restarting it goes back to huge.
That statement indicates to me that you have made this attempt using System Preferences>Universal Access>Mouse>For difficulties seeing the mouse...Normal.
If that is the true, have you previously installed any third party pointer software?

After upgrade I have a black display showing only the mouse pointer
I just installed the Windows 10 Technical Preview on my Lenovo W540 laptop. The installation appeared to to go just fine and I did not see anything that should cause any issues. Now that it is complete, my display is black and I see the mouse
pointer on the screen. I can move the mouse just fine, but nothing else will display when moving the mouse. If I hit <ctrl><alt><del> then our domain banner page will flash on the display but I can't hit the OK button to get to
my login prompt. Has anyone seen this before? What can I do to resolve this issue? Any suggestions out there?

Media write error since upgrade to mountain lion
9 out of 10 burns result in "failed due to a media write error" since upgrading to Mountail lion. Have also used a wet system cleaning disc that usually does the trick for my CD players. Have tried much slower write speeds - no help there.
Hello there Chamie7,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities
I would recommend this troubleshooting from the article OS X Mountain Lion: If an error message appears while you’re burning a CD or DVD found here http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10868
Use blank discs that are rated for the burn speed of your drive, or consider using a different brand of disc.
Specify a burn speed that is lower than the maximum speed rating for your optical drive.
Quit all open apps you’re not using.
Restart your computer and try burning the disc again.
If your startup disk is nearly full, try to free up space on it. The amount of free space on the startup disk needs to be greater than the amount of data you’re burning. Erase unnecessary files. Back up files you don’t use often, and then remove them.
Repair your startup disk with Disk Utility. For more information, see this topic in Disk Utility Help:Repair a disk
If needed you may also want to reset the SMC on the computer as well.

Mouse keeps stopping since I upgraded toYesomite
Mouse keeps stopping since I upgraded to Yesomite
What brand of mouse? Try and provide as much specific detail as possible when asking questions.
If it's a non-Apple mouse you may have some sort of driver conflict and need to update or remove the 3rd party drivers. -
ICal error since snow leopard upgrade
Hi,
We are running Mac OS X Server v10.6 Snow Leopard. I have all of our service up and running except for one. The issue is with iCal Server.
We did an OS upgrade - keeping our previous settings etc. Most of this worked great but iCal Server is not accessible.
In Server Admin the service seems all set and running but on the web page and on our client machines the calendars we have been using before the upgrade are now not available.
Using Safari and going to the web calendar I gat a message "Unable to access calendar, because the calendar server is not running."
In iCal on a client it just shows a offline icon beside the group's(account) shared calendar.
I have looked a several settings and read through the 10.6 iCal Server Admin PDF from apple. I am sure I jst am missing a configuration somewhere.
Any help/advise/insight would be awesome!
ThanksThanks for the response. I did a very similar task to fix the issue. Basically our company calendar had only a few future events input so I deleted all the old ics files etc and restarted ical server. I can now access the calendars(users and groups) via the webcalendar on the wiki.
I can also sync user calendars with iCal using- http://serveraddress:8008/principals/users/username/
However I cannot sync the group calendar using- http://serveraddress:8008/principals/groups/groupname/
This worked in 10.5 but is not working since the 10.6 upgrade.
Perhaps I need to find a new path to access this calendar. Any thoughts on where is calendar home is located?
Thanks -
hover mouse pointer on bookmarks button-bookmarks would open -drop down- point to a folder in the list -IT would open for more book marks.
how do i restore feature. it was very handy- no clickingHi montee11,
That may be the Bookmark menu? You can enable the menu bar in Firefox by:
# Clicking "3bar" menu
# Click +Customize
# Show/hide toolbars and select Menu
Hovering over the Bookmarks button on the toolbar no longer opens automatically, but it does open when I click. -
When I installed Firefox 4 I noticed that the downloads kept freezing. I noticed that whenever I moved the mouse pointer the download would resume. When the download freezes I could leave it for 20 minutes or more and the download would not complete. When I paused the frozen download and restarted it the download completed.

I'm experiencing frequent (every 11 minutes or so) mouse-down errors. As this occurs in any variety of apps, including the Finder, the application in-use seems to not be a factor.
I will be using an application and suddenly the track-pad no longer works. This is will last for between one and three minutes. Sometimes, the front-most window will veer suddenly to the left so that it is halfway off the screen. I will be unable to move it until the mouse-down error ends. Most of the time, I can continue to move the mouse around during these events, but I can't click on or move anything. Sometimes, gestures (like 4 finger push up to reveal Mission Control) will be disabled during these events, but not always. During these events, I am also unable to drag and drop any files from one space to another.
This is extremely frustrating and very disruptive to my work and I would really appreciate any help in resolving this.
The problem began a week or so ago after I installed more than a dozen applications; I have experimented with quitting one menulet at a time with no results. It seems to me, since the error is occurring on a fairly regular basis that one background process or another is causing it so the offending app would need to be fully uninstalled, not just quit anyway.
I'm wondering, at this point, if I should just restore from a two week old backup, but I would really like to avoid that hassle if it's possible to simple identify the offending process.
These are some of the console logs of mouse-downs:

Thank youTry un-installing SIMBL. It is a system hack.

Try un-installing the applications you installed. Un-install using the developer’s instructions to make sure you remove all parts of the application. Some people recommend not installing an application unless you know how to remove it. When you find the problem application, you can try re-installing the others. -
Pinkish glow around mouse pointer on external screen.
Since the last update (10.9.1) my mid-2012 macbook air started showing a very peculiar behaviour.
Only when connected to an external monitor and waking up from sleep, the mouse pointer on the external monitor comes with a pinkish glow. Very annoying.
Details:
- it only appears within the external monitor, if the pointer is moved into the macbook screen the defect disappear.
- to make it go away, it is enough to unplug and re-plug the external monitor
- it seems that the shadow and the aliasing around the mouse pointer receives the wrong hue on the ext monitor, but mine is only a guess.
- connection thunderbolt (original apple adapter to dvi)
- monitor iiyama prolite B2409HDS
- it started with the update to 10.9.1. NEVER had a problem before that (since 10.8)
any thoughts? Is there anybody out there with the same issue?Same Issue here. See picture below:
Mac details:
Processor 2 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel Iris Pro
Software OS X 10.9.3 (13D65)
HDMI Cable connected to LG LCD TV
I'm not sure but it could be that I have started experiencing this glow since a Mavericks update ( I didn't have this issue the first months after upgrading to Mavericks).....
Did anyone already submit a bug report over here : https://bugreport.apple.com ???? -
Mouse pointer flashing like crazy
Since the last Flash update, Firefox crashes once or twice a day. According to the error reports sent, Flash did cause those crashes. Now there’s a new bug: the mouse pointer flickers like mad. I know it is Flash, because I killed the process in the task manager, and the mouse returned to normal. It’s not likely to be Firefox’s fault, but I thought I should still report it here to get it on record. Maybe Adobe will remedy this latest, highly buggy version of Flash.
Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

What's with the mouse pointer in Lion?
Ever since upgrading my Mac mini to Lion, I am seeing many instances of the wrong mouse pointer being displayed. It may be a hand when it should be an arrow or vice versa. It may be a diagonal window resizing arrow when it should be a hand.
I can't detect any pattern to this. It's just wrong a large part of the time.
Never had this problem under Snow Leopard.I know I'm late to this post as it was posted back in 2012 but I'm having the exact same issues. Any others have this problem and if so, any remedy to this?
