Mouse Pointer Speed vs. Resolution

Greetings,
I've purchased the HP 2.4GHz Wireless Optical Mobile Mouse. In the Mouse Control Center, I have the option of setting the Pointer Speed (slow to fast) and Resolution (low to high). What is the difference between pointer speed and resolution? They both appear to adjust the mouse sensitivity in the same way.
Thanks,
Shane.

I am also having the same problem with this. I don't think it's right to pay another 25 bucks for something that should have been integrated into the system by default. Come on!
I'm using A.) a trackpad and B.) a laser-based Logitech G5, which doesn't care what surface it is on regardless of what computer it's plugged into. I use it for gaming on my PC all the time.
The surface doesn't matter, in this case.
mousefix, at www.knockknock.org.uk/mac/ seems to work alright but now it's broken and I can't seem to fix it again. I've tinkered with this a lot and can't get it.
Just implement a small patch for this in OS X 10.4.8 - NOT that hard! Especially if this guy could do it.

  • Mouse pointer speed

Even though I have tracking speed set to the fastest setting, the pointer doesn't move very fast.  The pointer moves at the same speed as the mouse. I often have to pick up the mouse and move it back to cover the entire screen.  One person told me to not use a white surface as optical mice don't work well on white surfaces.  That made no difference.  Any advice?  Its an iMac, about 9 months old.

Just checked and I cant reproduce your problem.
If I connect a optical mouse and set the tracking speed to max, I have to move the mouse about 2 inches to move the mouse pointer from  down left corner to top right corner of my screen.
Even if your screen size may be as twice as mine there should be no need to pick up the mouse and replace.
Have you tryed it with another mouse?

  • Mouse Pointer speed/inaccuracy

    Hi,
I'm using a Apple Might Mouse. And I cant stand the system acceleration setting, where the mouse pointer moves as if it's dragging through mud.
How can I get it a bit closer to Windows/Linux pointer where it's moving freely.
I've tried Mousesteer v3.2. That worked brilliant. But I dont have a Debit/Credit card to purchase it . USB Overdrive is OK, but not brilliant.
Are there any other programs out there. I have tried other mices, and they have the same problem.
    Thanks

  • Can I ask for faster mouse pointer speed???

I can see many Apple program that providing us for feedback but not OSX itself.
I try to tune my mouse in the speed that fit my style: no good. That is slow even I turn all the way to fastest. Then I need to "buy" a 3rd party program to speed up my mouse...... that's crazy.
Can we ask for an option to let user choose faster speed?

You can use the appropriate contact point listed in the bottom right corner of this page

  • Question about mouse track speed and interpolation.

To give context it's a regular practise for windows gamers to set their mouse/pointer speed to 6/11 (middle notch, 6th out of the 11) in your system settings.
The reason being that setting provides a 1:1 ratio, signal from your mouse translating into pointer movement without any interpolation.
Which brings me to my question: On what setting, in Leopard, do you get that 1:1 ratio / zero interpolation.

  • Mouse pointer is unchangeable at 100% scaling in multi monitor setup with different resolutions

Hi there, I have been asked by one of the moderators of the Windows 8.1 forums to post this topic here.  You can see the thread relating to this post here
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-tms/cant-change-the-cursor-pointer/ae8ad8a0-3ded-4810-a3be-794f6c4830a4?msgId=2bd7082f-f5d1-4b01-8c70-e0d2a754d66f&page=1<o:p></o:p>
The problem:  The mouse pointer becomes unchangeable in size, type, trails etc when 100% scaling is used.  As in it reverts to the standard small white non-inverted, no trails,
no shadow 'pointer', no matter what options you select in the 'Mouse' control panel settings.<o:p></o:p>
This appears to be a scaling problem with the Windows 8/8.1 display, not an actual mouse problem.  Judging by my own and other peoples experience it seems to happen mainly with multi
monitor setups where different screen resolutions are used.  The issue occurs typically when 100% scaling for all monitors is used or this option is un-ticked and the 'change the size of all items' is on smallest (equivalent to 100%).  <o:p></o:p>
If the scaling is set to 150% or greater the issue disappears and the mouse pointer becomes fully functional.  Also bizarrely when the scaling is set to 100% if the screen is recorded
using a screen capture program, the recording of the screen shows the mouse pointer selected in the mouse options and not the default small white cursor that is present when recording it.  Here is a link to a video where I explain and show the problem
    happening on my system.  http://youtu.be/xs2cxoeaq-A<o:p></o:p>
I have every update installed without exception, latest drivers etc.  I use a 55" 4k screen with 2x1080p monitors in portrait on either side.  All are connected through 1 Nvidia
    GTX 780 6GB graphics card<o:p></o:p>
    Hope you can help us<o:p></o:p>
    thanks<o:p></o:p>
    Jon M<o:p></o:p>

    Hi Jon,
I'm looking into this issue but it will take me some time to provide a reply.
In the meantime I noticed that you have 3 monitors with 1x 55' and 2x27' - please have a try to only connect 1x27' monitor and see if issue persists.
Also please try to change the screen resolution to a lower size and see if issue persists.
Both suggestions are not solution, I just would like to know if it is related to multiple monitor or screen resolution.
If you have any feedback on our support, please send to [email protected]

  • Mouse pointer goes for itself

My mouse pointer will jump quickly to the corners of the display while working with it. I've made different adjustments to the mouse tracking speed to no evail. Does anyone have the answer? It is quite annoying when in the middle of a graphics project.

    Hello,
While the problem is more related to the perception of the optics in the mouse, than it is the mouse pad; a good mouse pad will make a difference.
I have been using Optical mice for a couple of years now. And, the problem you point out has been consistent in all of them (various brands and models).
Apple's optical mice are very sensitive about changes in the texture of the surface they are on. Patterns need to be very consistent, and very regular.
The problem has to do with how sensitive your optical mouse is to changes in the surface that you are moving over. You will have your best results on Mouse Pads designed for optical mice.
I finally found a mouse pad that minimized the problem for me.
I was in Office Depot in the Seattle, Washington area, and noticed these excellent pads.
I am very particular about the Pads. I will not use a cloth pad, or anything with any thickness to it at all.
I don't like cloth pads because they get disgusting and nasty. Furthermore, I don't like pads that are thicker than a single sheet of fine paper. I find thick pads uncomfortable.
So, I had been specifically looking for a good mouse pad that was not only suitable for optical mice, but also extremely thin. I used to have a thin one, but it wasn't good for optical setups.
So, with all the above in mind, I set out looking for a new mouse pad for my optical mice.
I looked around my local area, and couldn't find anything suitable for optical mice that was also extremely thin.
So, while in Washington, I stopped by every store we passed that might have something suitable. Finally, Office Depot had it.
They are round mouse pads, as thin (or thinner) than a sheet of paper), and have a pattern that optical mice like.
    They are called "WOW!PAD"
The company that makes them is at:
    http://www.microthin.com
My pad is "Dots 007" if you look at the pictures on the page at:
    http://www.microthin.com/prod_wowpaddesigns.htm
You can read more about the pads by going to the following page, and selecting the different options in the selection box:
    http://www.microthin.com/prod_wowpad.htm
I've found that it almost completely eliminated the pointer problems on my Microsoft Mouse, and 100% eliminated the problems on both my Apple Pro mouse and Mighty Mouse.
My Apple mice don't jump around at all now. So, give that a try. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
    I hope this helps.

  • Mouse pointer icon

My mouse pointer changes to other icons then does not change back to the default arrow.
It has done this since installing tiger 6 months ago. I discovered if I move the pointer around the dock launch it will randomly get fixed.
    Anyone have a suggestion?

Not really sure if this will help, but try moving the Scroll Speed to a slower one.

  • Mouse Pointer Disappearing and reappearing

For the past few days my Mouse Pointer will randomly disappear for unspecified lengths and then reappear. I am using the new Blue Tooth Magic Mouse. It also happens with a wired mouse. I have searched high and low for an answer. I however fall to anyone in this group that would know the answer. Thanks.

I'm having the same problem, it just started this morning when i did system updates "Security Update 2010-003", "iTunes v. 9.1.1", "Safari 4.0.5", "AirPort Base Station 5.5.1", "Xcode 3.2.2".
I am using a Mac Pro with a Microsoft mouse, so it has nothing to do with the magic mouse. It's really annoying and making it hard to work! It affects many apps as far as I can tell.

  • Mouse pointer/hardware annoying

I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem or it's just me. Basically I get really annoyed with the mouse pointer (trackball or regular mouse) option where it detects the speed you move the mouse and works accordingly. In other words, I might move the mouse a bit slow and it moves really really slow...I want it to move with me like my pc works. I hope this makes sense. There is some option I remember reading about that does this, but I can't think of its name.
Is there anyway to make the mouse work normally?

  • Mouse pointer snap range

Can anyone advise if I can change the snap range (number of screen pixels around a graphics point) for the mouse pointer. I use a CAD program and need to increase the area on screen that the mouse pointer uses to pick up points etc. With the increased screen
resolution the area (number of pixels) that the mouse pointer needs to be in to find a point gets smaller all the time and there is no provision in the software to increase the target area pixels.
    Regards
    Mark

    Hi Mark
As I know,CAD programs should have related settings in options Dialog Box. You should be able to set the display size for the object snap target box in pixels. You could contact with program manufacturers check on this.
This kind of settings might not come with Winodws, Windows provide basic driver for devices, Manufacturers might offer advanced driver program for their products. You also could download these program to modify these settings such as DPI.
We suggest you modify these settings in your CAD program so it can only affect the usage in CAD.

  • Mouse Pointer shows "Edit Cursor" "|" where it should be a arrow (pointer)

I have noticed that at times the mouse pointer shows a Edit cursor when it should be
    a standard mouse arrow.
This happens when a leave one application and navigate to another application.
I am able to use the "|" cursor to click, but it seems rather odd.
I would really like to know if someone else has noticed this?

Are you using Fast User Switching (FUS)? Are you running an application that keeps a window always on top?
I have encountered a reproducible problem which causes the mouse pointer to fail to revert to the default arrow. I do not know if it is a general OS X issue, or caused by this specific app only (I just reported the problem to the app vendor, will report back on the resolution).
In my case, if user "A" is running a program that has an "always on top" window, and that application has the "focus", and I then use FUS to switch to any other user, the mouse pointer for that user will "stick" in its most recent variation - be it a pointing finger (for a link), an edit cursor, a window resize cursor, etc. If you move from a link for example to a text box, the cursor will change to the new form, but it will not revert to the default arrow. To "solve" the problem, do this:
before using FUS to change to another user, click on another application (e.g. the Finder), so that the problem application does not have the "focus". Does any of this relate to your problem?

  • Jumping mouse pointer

I've seen other posts describing a problem similar to mine. But I have not been able to resolve my problem. I'm hoping someone can suggest a resolution. I'm using my Mac Pro (early 2009) with a 4850 graphics card. I have always had 2 monitors attached. Both are Viewsonic. One is a 19" VA1930wm. The other is a 22" VG2230wm.
For a few months now, I've noticed that my mouse pointer will jump around on the screen, making control very difficult, especially when playing video games. I took my Mac to my Apple Store to have it checked. They ran several diagnostics and were unable to replicate the problem. Btu here at home, I continue to have a problem. I thought it was a problem with the blue tooth, but I also have the problem when using corded mice.
The other day, I bought a new corded mouse to use. I noticed that the jumping problem was very consistent. It happened at a very constant time interval of about 2 seconds. As I considered this, I realized that when they were diagnosing the problem at the Apple Store, they were only using one monitor. So I decided to disconnect one monitor and see what happened.
I disconnected the 22" monitor, leaving the 19" connected. Immediately, the mouse jumping problem went away. Then I decided to switch monitors. I disconnected the 19" and reconnected the 22". The problem came right back. I then switched the 22" monitor between the two video ports. It didn't matter which port was used, the problem persisted.
I contacted Viewsonic and, after some discussion, they gave me an RMA to send the monitor in for maintenance. My question here is whether it is a problem with the monitor or if it could be something else. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate hearing them.

I just got a new mid-2010 8-core mac pro and this same problem is occurring for me. I have a logitech mx revolution and when I first set the system up from scratch it wasn't working well so I switched it out for the magic mouse it came with. The same thing was happening with that. I then tried magicpref to see if that somehow fixed it. It didn't. Since then I've removed the logitech control center and magicpref utilities and even tried a wired mouse. I'm still having the erratic mouse movement.
I haven't tried disconnecting my second monitor, but what's strange is when I start up the mac pro the secondary monitor flickers for a few minutes. I have no idea why it would do that or if it's related...

  • Mouse pointer moving of own accord

    Hi all,
Recently a strange problem manifested itself. Whenever I click and hold on the trackpad, the mouse pointer on screen moves straight downwards at a slow speed. However, it seems only confined to my admin account and not any newly created users. This points to something not hardware related but some other software/preferences issue.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Hi all,
Recently a strange problem manifested itself. Whenever I click and hold on the trackpad, the mouse pointer on screen moves straight downwards at a slow speed. However, it seems only confined to my admin account and not any newly created users. This points to something not hardware related but some other software/preferences issue.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
