Mouse precision

I've been using boot camp and running winXP on my macbook. I just started using osX again, but I notice mouse lag now It's almost like mouse acceleration? As I slowly move the mouse it too moves very slow, but at a certain speed it jumps and becomes more responsive. Has anyone else noticed this that uses both mac and pc on a daily basis?
The specs FWIW are BLackbook 2.4ghz intel duo/2gigRAM/10.5.8/. 24" Dell widescreen monitor pluged in via miniDVI to VGA adapter.

Oh I suppose I should mention that! I'm not using the trackpad I'm using an old Logitech mouse.
Very unlikely anything is faulty. It seems like a setting that I can adjust that would fix this problem.
To anyone who can compare between the tracking the of the cursor on the screen itself from XP to OSX- I ask you to make a figure 8 with your pointer/cursor and adjust the speed you are doing it in. It between very slow and slow speeds, do you notice an acceleration on OSX making it harder to control as opposed to on XP. I notice a considerable difference in accuracy and responsive to trying to make a perfect figure 8.
This is as best as I can describe it at the moment, I hope someone else notices this..

  • I'm having trouble moving my mouse precisely

    Hi ,
I don't know how to modify the precision of a moving object inside illustrator.
If any body knows i think it's easy to fix i just cant remember how to do it

    Coonie,
As I (mis)understand it, you need to change the behaviour of your mouse through the general methods in your OS (you may change the arrow key increment in Edit>Preferences>General.
In addition to that, Smart Guides may be your friends, telling you where you are and helping you snap to just about anything you wish.

  • Is there a way to disable mouse acceleration in OSX Yosemite?

i have used my dads iMac and MBP in the past and always noticed how bad the mouse response was in my opinion. Mind you, some people like the way the mouse responds in OSX and will probably have no idea what my issue is. That is mouse acceleration and the lack of option to disable it in the mouse settings panel. Here is a good explanation about what it is, also in the video is a visual example.
"Mouse or cursor acceleration, to put it simply, makes the travel distance of your cursor on the screen reliant of the velocity of your physical mouse movement rather than just the distance that you move your mouse. So making one movement of the same distance at two different speeds will cause two different relative cursor movements, with quick movement causing the cursor to travel a greater distance."

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16diwK6HWbI
So the thing i want to accomplish, is making the physical mouse movement one-to-one with the cursor speed on the screen. As an example: moving my mouse 10 cm would always make my mouse on the screen go 1000 pixels, no matter how fast i move my mouse.
I've had my mouse set up like that in windows and linux for quite some time now and i hope there is an easy way to set the mouse response like that in OSX as well.
I want to make clear that this isn't just an issue in games where you want to have great mouse precision. I have become really accustomed to this way of mouse response in any type of application. So the problem lies not in any mouse settings of any game/program. The problem lies in how OSX translates physical mouse movement to cursor movement.
Anyway, i ran into this issue about a year ago when i was using my dad's computer. i've had my own windows computer for some time now. An option to disable mouse acceleration in OSX Yosemite might have been implemented properly in the mean time. I have searched this community and found some old posts of people who had this same problem as me, but never read about any fix for it. The main reason i am asking this is because i am considering buying a Macbook.
I'd rather not use any third party software, but if there is any out that that just works and is easy to use, let me know.

Please don't be obnoxious to people like tbirdvet trying to help; nobody here owes you an answer, or anything else for that matter.
Anyway, Yosemite seems to enable mouse acceleration by default. You can disable it to get a constant pixels pointer moves / meters mouse moved ratio by typing this in terminal:
         defaults write .GlobalPreferences com.apple.mouse.scaling -1
you'll need to logout and log back in for changes to take effect. To restore the standard behaviour:
         defaults write .GlobalPreferences com.apple.mouse.scaling 2
    should do the trick.
    C.

  • Mouse tracking is whacked out

Okay, what's the deal with mouse tracking performance all of a sudden? It seems like if I attempt to move precisely with the mouse it's tracking speed is reduced to an abnormally slow rate... I would say painfully slow rate. I switched mice to see if it was a mouse issue, it acts the same way no matter what mouse is connected.
Basically if I try to move the mouse precisely (i.e. slowly), it overcompensates and tracks at a rate even slower than what I am moving at. It's almost like it has lag. It does this in any app even on the desktop. I repaired permissions, tried different mice, the same thing. Only thing new on my system seems to be the new Safari, which isn't all that peppy compared to the previous version.
Anyone know what might be causing this? Trying to edit Photoshop images with a mouse that moves at a rate slower than molasses is nothing but painful if not impossible.

    Hi there,
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
Another way is to make a new User, does it happen logged into that account?
Might be that either or both these files need trashing & reboot...

SHOULD I KEEP THIS OR BUY ANOTHER ONE WITH 64 bit  I WANT TO USE ADOBE cs3, and will upgrade to CS4  soon.  i use primarily dreawweaver and i want to learn graphics and want to do tons of multitasking

Seems like you have very much overkill in certain areas and not enough in others. If you will be running Dreamweaver, you don't need a lot of RAM! If, on the other hand you will be using Photoshop, you need a lot of RAM. I've been using Photoshop since 1992 and the more RAM the better, up to about 6 GIGs, then it really doesn' make much of a difference. As for the Graphics cards, not sure why you need 2?? I use Photoshop professionally and have never needed 2. As for the RAM, the graphics cards have their own RAM built in and it should not rob from you system. I use a Quad processor HP running Vista 64 bit. Photoshop flys, as do my other programs. However, I will tell you, if you change to 64 bit, be prepared to upgrade most all of your software, and on top of that, a lot of software is not capitable with 64 bit at this time. I played Hell getting my system set up running 64 bit. If you are not going to be using Photoshop, which is RAM hungry, you do not need more that 4 gigs of RAM.

  • JTable without JScrollPane behavior crippled

I want column width of JTable t1 goes parallel with the width resizing on
JTable t2. If tables are put in JScrollPanes, this has no problem. But if I put
those tables in simpler container, which is JPanel in this case, t2 shows a
funny behavior -- with user's mouse operation on t2 column, their width
never changes but t1 column width changes properly. Could I have

    Hey hiwa,
I don't see anything mysterious going on. If you think about it, how many components can we resize at run-time/dynamically with a mouse - none, except for the columns in a JTable, Frames and Dialogs. Note the latter two are top level and answer to no-one (except the screen i guess).
If you have ever implemented a component that can be 'dragged' and manipulated by the mouse, have you ever done so outside, that is, not using a JScrollPane? I doubt it.
I do not think it has anything to do with mouse precision. Maybe you are just experiencing undefined behaviour, unreliable behaviour. I imagine the Swing team didn't bother themselves with a usage scenario that would yield lesser results for a simple task. Using AUTO_RESIZE_OFF and requesting more room than the Container has to offer may upset that containers LayoutManager i.e. their algorithms may contain code that will shrink child components to fit, or nab space from sibling components.
Basically, in my experience, how ever long it takes me to realise it, when Swing goes on the blink it is usually a programming error.
BTW, did my suggestion work ok?
Sorry if I come across forceful. I'm glad I read and tested your code - the synchronization effect will be very useful.
    Warm regards,
    Darren

  • How to disable Double Click Import

Hi im new to CS6 and I find the double click import more trouble than it is helpfull. Clicking through clips im always missing the clips by a little this then brings up the import window then I have to close it and precious seconds are lost (its annoying). Is there a way to disable this.
    thanks,
    Ian

On windows if you go to where it says "start/the windows icon" on the bottom left of your taskbar. Then go to "control panel" also make sure the view is set to "category small icons" (it should say view by it's in the upper right area of the control panel) then select "mouse". Then check the "pointer options tab".
Then make sure the "enhance pointer precision" option is enabled. Then also enable to the "snap to" option as well. For me this makes my mouse more precise. (IMO anyways)
Although I haven't really experinced the problem you're describing, I have however had issues with mouse precision before on certain systems. This setting has always helped me out with that.

  • Mouse speed and precision at 1920x1200 are not good in OS X Tiger

    Hi,
I am using the same logitech MX700 mouse on a intel mac mini in dual boot with OS X and Windows XP.
The screen resolution is the same on both OSs: 1920x1200
The mouse is perfectly working while using Windows XP, while it is working badly under OS X.
I have installed logitech software on both of them but it is working in two different ways. I can try to adjust mouse speed setting but it is not the same: if the mouse goes faster the precision is lower. In windows this does not happen.
In windows I can set "acceleration" while in OS X this is missing. I don't know if this could be the cause of problem I am feeling in OS X.
In the past I have noticed similar mouse behaviour while using unix like OSs. So I think it could be related to the mouse driver for these Operating systems and to the high screen resolution.
Does anybody know if there is a fix about this?
I would like to start learn using OS X but I still "hate" it due this poor mouse support.
    Thanks a lot!

The poor mouse support is by Logitech. However, MouseZoom is a popular software for faster mouse speed:

  • [AwesomeWM] mouse cursor precision in java apps

My mouse cursor isn't really precise in java apps, for example IntelliJ IDEA. The highlighted (and clicked) item is always below the cursor.
In this case https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B594FZm … sp=sharing (Screenshot) the mouse cursor actually hightlights the row above, but the row below is selected and clicked).

I am having the same issue with RubyMine 6 and Oracle JDK 1.7.0_45. Apparently, we are not the only ones. http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions … 454afd0e69 However I have not been able to find any solutions yet.

  • TP Precision Wireless mouse vs. Laser Wireless mouse

    Hello!
My nerves got totally dead after some time using a cable mouse from Genius. I decided to buy new, wireless one. I have few adepts, two of them belongs under Lenovo brand.
    Cheaper: Precision Wireless mouse: http://www.lenovoshop.cz/lenovo-mys-thinkpad-precision-wireless-mouse-1600dpi-cerna-midnight_i566926...
More expensive: Laser Wireless mouse http://shop.lenovo.com/ISS_Static/ww/ag/merchandising/options/images/large/_460_0_0A36188_V1.jpg
Which one would you reconmend? Do you have any experiences with one of them? Materials, noise, build quality? Have you been using both and can you say some pros/cons? Shall I rather choose Logitech? In my country, TP Wireless mouse is almost twice as expensive.
Thank you and best wishes to upcoming New year!

(Please, excuse my bad english, thank you)

    Hello
both mice do have similar built quality (both have Thinkpad logo) and both follow same details (click sound, click travel etc.). So it is more about features and functions to decide.
I would personally go with Laser mouse as Laser works on more surfaces and provides better tracking. That's also why it is a bit more expensive than Precision mouse.
    Hope this helps.

  • Do precise sliders adjustments with the mouse wheel

I would like to be allowed to use the mouse wheel to move sliders in small increments/decrements. E.g. 1 by 1 for Recovery and Blacks and 100 by 100 for Temp in Develop module. To be also fast, I should just need to hover with the mouse over the slider, and then use the wheel (with no need to click). Leaving the mouse to use two hands and hit Alt+arrows just doesn't cut it.

    Nicolas,
if you have to do a click at first to give them the focus, then you have to do a de-click afterwards as well or at least hit the enter key. Otherwise following shortcuts will be eventually misinterpreted because the focus still remains on the slider.

  • New ThinkPad Precision Wireless Mouse (MORFGOO) does not work

    Hello to everyone,
My wireless mouse does not work. The symptoms are: The mouse is completely unresponsive, as if it had no power at all (cannot be turned on, no red laser, no interaction with CPU).
How I came to notice the problem:
I installed the mousesuite from lenovo/support/mousesuite. Then I restarted the computer. After this, I connected the USB Bluetooth Adapter to a USB port of the ThinkPad 430s 2352 CTO. I tried to turn the mouse on. No changes were noticed, Mouse still offline, no light. Tried a different set of battery & tried the wireless button. No change. Reinstalled the mousesuite. No noticeable change.
I believe the mouse might be broken. Could anyone please provide me with support as to how I could solve this? In the case that it is non-functional, how do I return it to lenovo? Is it under my one year guaranty (I bought it as an accessory on my command for my laptop)?
    Thanks for your answers!

    Hi,
Your migration to Lion brought over a previous hot key preferences document. And this contains one bad key that wasn't updated.
    - Quit System Preferences (if open)
    - Delete this document to remove a carry-over mapping error.
    - Then logout
Note: That this will delete any existing modified keyboard assignments. Re-assign changes manually.
Note2: This document is in your users preferences folder.

  • Erratic Magic Mouse (jumps accross screen precisely every second)

The title sums it up really. Every second (on the second) the cursor will jump very slightly on the screen. Probably only about 2 or 3 millimeters. It's annoying, but it's not a huge deal.
What IS a huge deal is when the mouse decides to jump the cursor to a random point on either of my two screens. Extremely annoying especially if the second screen isn't even turned on and it jumps over there.
What I've noticed is that it seems to do it more frequently when there is a higher load on the system. With a 'normal' workload (internet browsing, skype, listening to music etc) it will do this big jump approximately every minute. But when there is a high load, like when I'm trying to play a game it will happen every couple of seconds, rendering most games totally unplayable! (The number of times my character has ran off the edge of a cliff because of this is maddening).
Now here's the thing, I took my iMac and Magic Mouse to my local Apple Store and wouldn't you know it, nothing happened. It behaved itself perfectly. But they were very good and swapped my old Magic Mouse for a brand new one out of a retail package anyway. Happy, I bring it home and immediately it's doing it again exactly as before with the brand new mouse!
My iMac is the 2010 27" Core i5 version upgraded with 12gb of ram, in case any of that is relevant at all.

I don't believe this. I've just spotted this post by user Ratzelda. He says that it's an issue with having dual (or multiple) monitors connected but powered down. I hadn't noticed any change in the mouse's behaviour when using the second monitor, but out of curiosity I just switched it on and sure enough the mouse is behaving normally now!
That explains why the mouse didn't respond erratically when I took the iMac to the Apple Store, because I didn't take my second display with me.
It seems like this is a known issue, and yet no patch has been released by Apple to fix it? Having to continuously run both monitors when it's not needed seems very energy inefficient to me. What is Apple playing at?
