Mouse Scroll Issues

I've had my iMac since June and have had trouble with the mouse. The "scroll up" feature doesn't work intermittently. I'm on my second mouse now. The scroll up feature on the first one just totally stopped working after 2 months. It just started on my second one the other day.
It's the wireless mouse. Any ideas?

I had intermittent scrolling problems with my wireless mighty mouse, but never did confirm it was a mouse problem, as opposed to software or EMF. I did follow Apple's instructions for cleaning the scoll ball - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302417 - but don't know that it had an effect.
Finally gave up and switched to M$ wireless laser mouse 8000 and have been very happy. It's a full four button programmable mouse, unlike MM. I like the ergonomics far better than MM and it works with the native bluetooth in my Al iMac and iBook G4. I couldn't find anywhere in the M$ kingdom that the mouse would work with Mac, but it did after installing the drivers. It comes with a bluetooth dongle, which I didn't need, so sold it for more than I paid for the 8000 mouse.
My iMac experience took a turn for the better after switching to the 8000.

  • Audition CS5.5 mouse scrolling issue

Not sure if this has been asked or even resolved.  I am having a hell of a time zooming in/out with the mouse scroll.  I have a feeling its my mouse but the problem only happens when using Audition CS5.5.
I have to pretty much fling the scroll wheel in order to zoom.  The scroll wheel works fine in other programs (ie: IE, Firefox, Word, Outlook, etc.) It worked fine in Audition 3.0.  Another person in the building has a wired mouse with the same computer and scrolls fine, but I havent had a chance to try out a wired mouse on mine to test.  I am using a USB wireless mouse.  I can use the scrolling zoom on the mouse pad and that works.  But didn't know if anyone else had an issue with their mouse.
Edit:  It scrolls Vertically in multi-track with scroll wheel... but not horizontally in multi-track or edit view.

Thanks for coming back and explaining the issue.  It doesn't happen very often, but it can be a lifesaver for others who might have the same problem down the road.

  • S12 Windows 7 - Mouse scroll issues and tapping won't stop.

I recently purchased an S12 Ideapad for my girlfriend for her studies and installed Win7 in the process. It works perfectly aside from one tiny issue. We can't get it to stop left clicking when tapping the mousepad surface and the vertical scroll area on the rightside of the pad does nothing.
I've tried installing the official Lenovo drivers for Win7 as Administrator / Then with Vista Compatabillity and then finally using the generic Synaptics drivers - but no luck, the options just doesn't appear in the Synaptics configuration menu of the mouse. All I can change are the functions of left click and right click. My old MEDION laptop has all the functions I am looking for in that same menu.
Has anyone else experienced this and/or know of a solution to this annoyance?

  • Mighty Mouse Scroll Issue

I have a strange problem with my mighty mouse. On my Mac I have 2 separate logins - both with admin. The scroll up and down works with one of the logins but not the other. I have tried over and over with both logins, turning the scroll on and off but it remains the same. It's obviously not a mouse problem - does anyone know what may be causing this?

I found this : Mouse won't scroll for one User but works for another  :  answer posted by a knowledgeable user.
While it doesn't match your issue exactly, its similarity indicates a possible solution. Easy enough to try anyway.

  • Mighty Mouse Scroll Issue - Application Specific

So, I just got a bluetooth Mighty Mouse and have a strange issue. I have one program where it simply won't scroll? All other programs function properly, so I have a decent connection. It's just this one database program (Panorama), which runs our business applications that won't scroll?
I already have a BT Mighty Mouse on my laptop and it works fine with this program? Any thoughts as to where to begin trouble shooting? I've tried everything I could think of and don't know what else to try.

No help huh? I have spent literally hours trying to figure this out. One solution, which I can't try is reinstalling the software for the bluetooth wireless mouse. This really ticks me off...I just ordered this machine and it arrived a couple of days ago, set it up and all is fine except for this issue. I'm going through the package shipped to me by Apple (I upgraded my keyboard and mouse to bluetooth when I configured the machine and ordered in online from apple). THERE IS NO DISK FOR THE WIRELESS KEYBOARD OR MOUSE IN THE PACKAGE!!! What the heck. Shouldn't there be? I can't seem to find the software anywhere on line, so how am I supposed to reinstall the software to see if that clears my problem? Aaaahhhh.....

  • Any fix for MS mouse scrolling issue?

Hey there. I've somewhat recently come into a problem where my Microsoft wireless mouse won't scroll through the iTunes library with the scroll wheel.
I've done other searches, I've seen others with the same problem, but no solutions.
Is this a permanent issue between the Microsoft mouse and the iTunes program that we have to wait for an official fix, or did something go wrong in my installations and I can fix the problem myself? (I have the newest IntelliPoint drivers and the newest version of iTunes).
The problem wasn't evident in XP, so it's probably a Vista vs. iTunes thing, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong or if there was an easy fix for it.

***** to have to buy a new mouse to fix the problem, I like how this mouse feels and moves (sigh..I love censors)
I guess when this one is about ready to be replaced I'll turn to logitech, but hopefully some sort of patch or fix will be introduced to let MS mice scroll in iTunes lol

  • Mighty Mouse Scroll Issues

I have a strange problem with my mighty mouse. On my Mac I have 2 separate logins - both with admin. The scroll up and down works with one of the logins but not the other. I have tried over and over with both logins, turning the scroll on and off but it remains the same. It's obviously not a mouse problem - does anyone know what may be causing this?

Isopropyl alcohol.  Preferably 95% but I've done this with the typical 70%, so whatever you have in your medicine cabinet.  With Mouse unplugged (powered off, battery removed for wireless mice,) put the mouse on a paper towel and pour a small amount of alcohol over the ball.  What you are trying to do is get some alcohol down past the ball and into the internal rollers, which have some gunk on them that you're trying to remove.  Isopropyl alcohol will not corrode the electronics and will help loosen and break up the gunk.  Roll the ball and pour a little more.  Repeat a few times.  You will want to let everything dry as much as possible before using.  Thus pouring a small amount and not the whole bottle and not "dunking" the mouse in a bowl filled with isopropyl alcohol.  Do that only if you get really desperate, but if you do, then let it drip and air dry afterward.
There is not much space for the gunk to be "flushed" out so eventually this may not work.  At which point you can look on Youtube and see several tutorials on disassembling the mouse.  The mouse is glued together so this is not without risk.  You may end up just buying a replacement mouse so just be prepared before attempting disassembly or even the alcohol.
(In case you're concerned, isopropyl alcohol has been used for cleaning around electronics for many, many, many years.  Used to clean water/syrup/milk/juice damage since it doesn't corrode the circuit boards.  While it generally doesn't conduct electricity, it was generally discouraged to use it on live equipment for various reasons.  And due to skin irritation, gloves often were used, but in this case with the mouse and the small amount being used, it's up to you to whether you want to use gloves and eye protection.)

  • Magic Mouse scrolling issues in Yosemite

Ever since updating to Yosemite (10.10.1) on my MacBook Air (2014 - 1.4 GHz i5, 4GB ram), my Magic Mouse has been exhibiting some odd behavior.  Often times when I try scrolling up and down a page in Chrome with a one-finger vertical motion, it decides to interpret the gesture as a one-finger right swipe instead, and ends up browsing back to the previous page.  I have checked carefully and the scroll gesture I am making is definitely vertical, not at all horizontal or diagonal.  Usually if I remove my hand from the mouse and try again it will be correct, though sometimes it takes a few tries.  It's very annoying and only started happening after I updated to Yosemite.
Any ideas what could be causing this or how to fix it?

UGH my mouse is doing the same thing and it's ******* me off, I keep going back/forward between webpages when I only want to scroll. It seems 50/50 though...sometimes it scrolls, sometimes it just goes back but it's super annoying. Anyone have a fix?!?!?

  • Suggestion for Apple Magic Mouse scrolling issue...

I have a Magic Mouse, approximately 3 years old. Recently, and suddenly, the horizontal scrolling stopped working. I tried every fix I saw suggested, here and on other sites, with no success. I had resigned myself to the fact that I would have to part with another $80 to get another one (because I really do like it), or try a different type of mouse (but none other seems to offer what this one does). This mouse has lasted through 3 years of heavy use, 3 young boys learning how to use it, several drops, 1 complete non-Genius tear-down and re-build, a couple of liquid spills, etc. So I figured I had nothing to lose; it didn't owe me anything.
So I dropped it. I banged it on the desk. Pretty hard. 3 times.
And now the horizontal scrolling works. Just fine.
When all else fails, try the inconceivable (what, bang or drop an Apple product on purpose??!!). It worked for me.

Love to watch you do that with your computer or your TV. Be sure to post the video.

  • Mighty Mouse sudden scroll issues on Mavericks

My bluetooth Mighy Mouse (a little ancient, but still works well for me) was functioning perfectly till suddenly the vertical scrolling increased speed rapidly, followed shortly by the horizontal scrolling failing completely. This all happened after an episode of letting my battery die to the point of power down, me plugging in the Mac, giving it a few minutes to boot only to find everything very slow, then doing a restart. Upon start up, my Mac returned to being its normal speedy self, but this Mighty Mouse issue occured.
The settings in preferences -> mouse are ''lowest scroll speed'' and "vertical and horizontal" scrolling
I have reset the SMC and PRAM. This did nothing.
    Any suggestions???

Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't know of that preference item.
But changing this did not help, in fact it seems to coincide with the System Preferences>Mouse>Scrolling (change one, and the other changes too). And changing this scrolling setting anywhere from low to high doesn't seem to change my current scrolling speed. It is unregulated.
I should also mention that I have two bluetooth Mighty Mice and one corded Mighty Mouse. All of these have super-fast vertical scrolling and NO horizontal scrolling.
Also, when resetting the PRAM, it is an obvious restart. When resetting SMC, is there any visible/audible cues that the reset has occured? I just want to rule these two possible solutions out.

  • Mighty Mouse scroll ball problems

I wondered if anyone could help me with a scrolling issue with the mighty mouse. Some days scrolling works vertically up and down and other times just one direction. I dont believe it is due to dirt in the mouse - it seems software related and is sporadic in its operation. Any advise you could give would be welcome
    Thanks
    Nick

DP, that is what worked best for me in the past.
After months of problems with the scrolling ball, and after trying all the suggestions found on the web, this method of using a white sheet of paper was an excellent one: my MM was again clean and working as if it was new!
However, be careful about it: don't push too much when running the MM upside down. Eventually, yes, the gunk will come out, but the ball would go down-inside the case if pressed too hard for too long. It happened to me when using this method for a second time, and I was in the need to disassemble the device in order to correct this, and I think that's exactly what I was trying to avoid in the first place.
    Hope it helps.
    JJ

  • Alt + mouse scroll (Zoom-In/Out) doesn't work. [was: Why it doesn't work in Illustrator?]

Alt + mouse scroll (Zoom-In/Out) doesn't work in my illustrator program.
    What should I do?

  • Mouse scroll wheel not working correctly.

Just installed Firefox 4 and my mouse scroll wheel is not working correctly. When opening the program, I can scroll as normal for about 5/10 minutes. Then, suddenly, the mouse scroll wheel no longer works. I've since found that it is actually scrolling outside of Firefox. E.g. I had Outlook open and it was scrolling through my Outlook even though Firefox was the open window. I checked this multiple times and it always seems to be the case.
Checked about:config as advised, everything looks correct on the mousewheel settings (i.e everything is set to default). Mouse drivers are up to date. No problems with any other programs. This issue started occurring in Firefox 4 beta. I switched back to 3.6 so I could continue scrolling. Updating to Firefox 4 caused the issue to recur.

It seems a lot of people are having problems with the Mighty Mouse's scroll ball. I actually thought I was done for after just a few weeks of using my first (wired) one. But here I am years later with my wireless variant, beeing perfectly happy with it (in case you don't know, the wireless Mighty Mouse is a much better option due to it's laser based tracking system). In my experience, getting rid of fluff that interferes with the ball is quite easy on both types. Try blowing really hard directly at the trackball (optionally while you press it down with some pointed device) a few times. Rotate it and repeat as needed. Alternatively roll the mouse upside down on the microfiber cloth that probably came with your Mac.
