Mouse slow to wake up

My mighty mouse (not wireless) is now very slow to wake up after my Mac awakes from sleep. It may take 30 seconds for the mouse to be recognized after my Mac wakes up, and, of course, the Mac will not awake with mouse movement or click.
I tried zapping the PRAM, but this did not help.

This is NOT a wireless mouse.
Sorry, Fred. I completely skipped by your parenthetical notation to that effect.

P.S. The USB port suggestion from Carolyn is worth trying. If you want to try to locate the cause of the problem, take a look at the console and system logs to see if anything is going on at system wake. There is no software setting that I am aware of that would cause what you describe.

  • My iMac has suddenly become very slow to wake from "sleep." Why? How can I fix this?

My iMac has suddenly become very slow to wake from "sleep." How do I fix this and what is causing the problem? Even the mouse wakes very slowly.

    Try these basic troubleshooting steps.
    1. Quit all app scompletely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    2. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    3. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Macbook Pro sometimes to slow to wake up?

    Hi
My Macbook has recently become really slow to wake up.  When I have been inactive for a few mins it powers off the monitor and reverts to the password screen which is fine.  But about 8 times out of 10 when I move the mouse to try and bring the screen up to enter my password the screen remains black while it wakes up and then about 1 minute later the screen comes on for me to enter my password.  I haven't installed any weird or wonderful apps or programmes that might have caused this and I only bought the macbook in December.  Any ideas if there is a simple fix for this?  Sorry if this info isn't the best, just thought I would try here before booking into genius bar and trying to reproduce the problem when it probably won't happen in front of them. Thank you.

  • Mac Book pro slow to wake from sleep

Hi , Sometimes when I leave my mac book pro and it goes to sleep (screen goes black when lid open) it takes a while to wake from sleep again - sometimes up to 30-40 seconds? This seems very odd for an expensive machine that is around 6 months old and something that never used to happen with my old powerbook G4. It doesn't happen all the time but regularly. Should I be worried? Any help greatly appreciated!

I'm curious if you ever found a solution for this issue.  I recently purchased the SanDisk Extreme II 480GB, replacing my OWC Extreme Pro 240GB.  The OWC never experienced the "slow to wake" issue whereas the SanDisk drive does, consistently.  To make sure I'm having the same symptoms, this is what happens to me:  Put the mac to sleep (either manually or letting it do it on its own, waiting for the led to pulse showing that it is asleep), then wake it up (press a key on the keyboard), the logon screen shows almost immediately but as soon as I try to type the pinwheel/beach ball shows up, I wait between 20 and 30 seconds and then I'm able to type and all is well.
I contataced SanDisk and their support was horrible.  They simply told me "contact MAC for this issue" (no joke, not "contact Apple" but "contact MAC", in all caps).  I explained that it works fine with the OWC drive just not the SanDisk.  They replied with another article showing that all macs have trouble waking from sleep (not true). I replied again indicating that I've never had this issue with any of my 3rd party drives, only this SanDisk.  Then the replied simply stating that all mac's have issues with 3rd party hard drives when waking from sleep.  At this point I threw a fit and yelled at my screen, even though it wasn't my screens fault.
In any case, their support has not been willing to do any actual troubleshooting.  I'd love to return it and I might have to - but as you stated, it's annoying to have this issue but the performance is fine the rest of the time.
Thanks for any input you have.

  • T410 keyboard and mouse will not wake from 'Power Source Optimized'

'Power Source Optimized' from the Lenovo Power Manager puts the computer to sleep after a prescribed time.
To rewake it appears that one must press the power key  briefly.
The login screen for W7 appears and prompts me to enter my password.
Only problem is - the keyboard and mouse refused to wake up. Could anyone tell me what the trick is?
    Thank you!

  • IPhone slow to wake!

My iPhone has been like this for two months (see link for video). Its extremely slow to wake (this video shows it waking faster than it usually does) and it has a powerpoint-esque windowshade animation looking animation when it wakes (visible in video). The longer the phone has been on and used for, the slower it is to wake. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this? I've already tried doing two DFU restores and setting it up as a new iPhone, but that didn't fix it. Its not jail broken and it is running the latest version of iOS. Its a CDMA White iPhone 4 16gb.

  • Droid razr m is slow to wake after update

I updated my razr m two days ago, and now my phone has been very slow to wake, sometimes over a minute. This happens even when my alarm sounds and it started more than 24 hours after the update.

Let's see what's going on with your phones goldeneyes. Do you mean from being powered off, to on? Or do you mean to get back to a normal screen takes so long? Please elaborate so we can better understand and assist.

  • Slow to wake after OS X 10.4.5

After installing OS X 10.4.5, my old G4/400/AGP is slow to wake, taking
35 seconds before coming to life. Repairing permissions, repairing
disk, and system check all show nothing out of the ordinary. Activity
monitor will function during this period, but doesn't indicate anything
abnormal in the way of disk activity, CPU, or memory during the 35
seconds. This delay happens whether there are applications running or
not. I trashed the powermanagement.plist, thinking it might be
    corrupted, but that didn't help.
My iBook G4 also has OS 10.4.5, similar applications, in a similar
environment, but wakes up in less than 5 seconds.
What would OS X 10.4.5 be doing on a G4/400 after wakeup that locks the
system for 35 seconds? Is there a way to spy on the system activity
during that 35 seconds and hopefully point me to the culprit?
    G4/400 AGP   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

You may be on to something. The G4/400 took an angonizing 3 minutes to restart. It hung for 2 minutes on the gray screen with the spinning clock face.
I don't have any benchmarks, but I recall a 60 second startup was the norm before OS X 10.4.5. iBook G4, which doesn't have the waking problem, starts up in 45 seconds.

  • Why is my Macbook Pro slow to wake after sleep?

Why is my Macbook Pro slow to wake after sleep?

I am having the same issue. I hook it up to the charger in the evening and close the lid. When I go to use it the next time it takes a good 30 seconds or so to wake up. The screen shows the log in screen but typing doesn't work and the cursor is frozen. Sometimes it will even give the rainbow wheel for the cursor, so it seem like it is processing whatever to get going. I also notice that my battery won't be fully charged at anywhere from 95%-99% after being charged a full evening. What can I do to change whatever is happening because it is pretty crappy to charge it all night expecting to have a full battery for the next use, plus the issue of having to sit there waiting for it to boot every time.

  • Apple keyboard or mouse won't wake up iMac from sleep.

After I put my iMac to sleep the keyboard or mouse won't wake it up. I have to push the power button to awaken it. Wake from sleep is enabled in bluetooth preferences so that is not the problem. Otherwise keyboard and mouse are working fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Regrettably, I can't offer a solution to the problem stated in the title. Instead, I experience the same problem.
    Wireless Mighty Mouse circa 2007
    Wireless Apple Keyboard circa 2007
Bluetooth dongle (a bluetooth thingy connected to a USB port)
Things worked fine until an upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard. Following the upgrade there were several mouse related issues. Those were resolved. One issue remains: waking by use of mouse or keyboard.
The setup (Same for keyboard and mouse)
System Preferences --- Bluetooth --- Keyboard Connected --- Keyboard Paired. The "Discoverable" box is checked.
    Digging deeper
System Preferences --- Bluetooth --- Advanced --- "Allow Bluetooth device to wake this computer" --- This option is unchecked and is greyed out, inaccessible. Two of the other options are checked and available: the options about opening the Bluetooth assistant and the one about prompting incoming audio.
I've searched other posts. However, many of the other posts seem to conflate this Wake/Sleep issue with various connection issues. Thus, the advice given is a bit confusing to this amateur. Might one of you experts have a solution to this annoying little problem?
    Thanks for your interest.

  • Slow to wake up

I'm not sure if this is a MacBook Pro or a OS Lion issue.  Periodically, my MacBook Pro is VERY slow to wake up.  Several minutes pass and the screen is still black.  I've only had this MBP since May so I still consider it brand new.  It is running Lion.  This doesn't happen everytime, but it is increasing.  I do push it pretty hard running 4-6 programs open at once, all that I use back and forth in my business.  I had to do a full restart to get it to come back on today.
Any thoughts on why this happens and what to do about it?  I will be near an Apple store this weekend and could get it looked at if that seems necessary.

Any chance you have a different order set for your network preferences? It may be tryig to find a wireless connection before ethernet, or some such, for example. Shifting your primary network process to the top of the list should fix it if this is the proble.
Head to System Preferences / Network and select "Network Port Configurations" from the "Show" drop down menu. Move your primary means of connecting to the top of the list and disable any that you never use. Then click on "Apply Now".

  • Screen is slow to wake up from black when pressing Home or Power button

My iPhone 3GGS has been working great since the upgrade to iOS 4, with the exception of a couple of small bugs. I have since upgraded to version 4.0.1 and the bugs are still present. I am posting the bugs here to see if anyone else has run into these, or if there are known fixes.
    1. Slow to wake from black screen - Most of the time my phone now takes its sweet time to wake from sleep or a black screen when I press the Home or Power button. It does not always do this, sometimes it wakes right up, but I woul sya that it does this at least half the time.
    2. Screen is slow to update and display caller details when ringing. I have noticed that since the update to version 4 my phone will light up, then start ringing/vibrating at least 3 seconds before it will display that there is an incoming call. There also is a delay of another coupld of seconds before it will display the caller details.
    3. Similarly, I have noticed that if I have the apple headset in I will feel the phone start to vibrate in my pocket at least 2-3 seconds before the the appropriate ring tone starts to play. Essentially I can answer the call using the button on the headset before it actually "rings".
Again, these are not huge issues, but they are pretty annoying. Does anyone have any thoughts?

While it is unfortunate that you have this problem, I am glad that I am not the only one.
Have you performed a hard restore of the firmware to factory settings without also restoring backup? In the past apple support as recomended that procedure for odd issues. It is not fun since you have to reconfigure by hand and lose all of your settings and application data, but it has worked for other issues.
I have not tried this yet - I have full three stars in angry birds and do not want to lose the status. Sad, i know.

  • Late 2010 macbook air slow to wake from sleep

Hi, my late 2010 macbook air running mountain lion is slow to wake from sleep, so when i lift the lide the screen is unreactive and it take approx a minute before I am able to enter my password, I am just wondering if anyone else had had this problem and has any solutions because its annoying, I have also noticed that when my macbook is on charge this doesn't happen!
    Thanks!!

    Hi shaners2491!
I would suggest that you attempt to reset a part of your computer's software called the System Management Controller. Information on doing this can be found here:

  • Maverick slow to wake

Since updating to Mavericks, my imac is very slow to wake from sleep. Is there a workaround or is it a case of waiting for an update?

  • IPhone 5 random slow to wake problem?

Sometimes on my iPhone 5 it randomly is slow to wake up, can take anywhere from 5-20 seconds to wake. Like when the phone is sleep, and I press either the home or power button on top, it won't wake or anything, and also when it's not waking and still at a black screen, ill try to plug it into the charger to see if it wakes and still it stays black screen. It's like the phone is like dead for 5-20 secs and wakes back up. I have a feeling it's not a hardware problem because my older iPhone 5 had this problem so I replaced it at an Apple Store and the new one still gets it.
If I wait a bit then it'll wake up and turn on. I have already replaced the phone with a new one at the Apple Store for this reason, and the newer one has the same exact problem, so I'm guessing it's something I did.....
My phone is a factory unlocked one and my SIM card currently is a T-Mobile and I cut it myself and I did not cut it so great and it's smaller than the SIM tray but it fits and works, maybe that's the problem?
Has anyone ever had this wierd wake issue with the new iPhone 5?
I am on iOS 6.0.1 by the way.

    I have the same problem.
I went to Apple Store and Genius Bar expert told me that the problem is caused by some app.
He told me to delete all apps and then install one by one and test to find out what is causing this problem.
