Mouse stops moving on network activity.

Hi All,
I just got my new 24" intel iMac today and I have an issue that I can't seem to find any documentation for. Perhaps one of you has dealt with the issue and can help.
I have a Logitech Revolution mouse that I've been using on my Mac G4 for the last few weeks with no problems at all (actually one of the best mice I've ever used). But now that I've got it on my new iMac, whenever I'm copying data over AFP (Apple File Protocol) my mouse becomes very unresponsive and will only move every so often, during the transfer and not nearly as far I've instructed it... Once the network file copy completes it's back to it's regular working order again.
The mouse receiver is plugged directly into the back of the computer for optimal power and I have the latest Logitech drivers installed.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Mat Pridham

Hi Mat
I don't have that mouse, but when I googled: "logitech revolution slow in os x" many folks in other forums had the same issue with the mouse.
One fix for some folks was >USB Overdrive - 10.4.5
Sorry I couldn't be more help!

  • Computer shuts down 5 seconds after mouse stops moving

As soon as the computer turns on it comes up with the shutdown/restart box. Have to press escape to cancel the shutdown. If the mouse is moving it is fine but as soon as it stops, 5 seconds later the box comes up and tries to restart. If I let it, it restarts and happens again.
    Any ideas?

    Try a SMC reset.

  • Stopping Business Catalyst network activity

Hi, is there a way of removing or disabling everything to do with Business Catalyist. i noticed there was network activity (contacting business server on opening dreamweaver) that we really want to stop.
    thanks.

I am not aware of any way to disable the Business Catalyst integration features.
However, I noted that as long as you have the Business Catalyst panel closed (or even minimized), then that network activity does not occur during startup.
Try opening DW, closing the BC panel, then restart DW to see if you still notice the network activity.

  • Howcome my flash player freezes when my mouse stops moving

i cant watch anything with flash because my mouse pointer needs to be constantly moving. any ideas?

Do you have a super old version of Flash Player installed?  I haven't seen this problem in years.
To give you any useful advice, I'm going to need to know more about your computer and browser:

  • Leopard crashing router. Can I access network activity reports?

Since 'upgrading' (it doesn't feel like it) one of my Macs to Leopard, my Airport Base Station gets knocked offline once or twice a day. Some days it is fine, other days, like today, it happens in quick succession. I wan to try and track down the specific cause, and I was wondering if there are any network activity logs I can access which would tell me the exact time network activity stopped, and what network activity was going on at the time.

If you open Airport Utility, select and enter your base station config you will see a tab headed 'Advanced', click that and you will see a number of logging options. Perhaps you can begin there.

  • Firefox stops working when mouse stops on page.

Firefox stops processing data, downloading, and/or playing videos when mouse stops moving. If I click outside Firefox window, it resumes, or I have to keep moving my mouse.
I reloaded Firefox and Flash, to no avail. Internet Explore works OK.

hello, this is unfortunately a known regression in firefox 25 that is affecting a small portion of users, for reference please refer to [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=933733 bug #933733].
your best option is probably to downgrade to firefox 24 at the moment until the issue gets resolved.

  • Why does the mouse button let go whenever I stop moving?

Any time that I try to drag something I run into this problem. I can start to drag, but if I ever stop moving the mouse, even if I'm still holding the button down, FCP just unclicks the mouse button automatically. Why could this possibly be?

What are all 4 Mighty Mouse buttons mapped to? Starting with left, then right, then scroll ball button, then side buttons. I only ask because it could be possible you are activating a different button when you stop, and the mouse switches to THAT function, thereby letting go of the left click function.

  • Mouse clicks as soon as cursor stops moving

Hi -- maybe I'm being really stupid but just got a new MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.5; when I'm using the trackpad to move the mouse it goes all Windows on me and automatically clicks whenever I stop moving the cursor for a moment -- this is driving me crazy! I've tried to figure out how to stop it but haven't found it so far. Any solution would be greatly appreciated!

Been looking more into it -- seems like I have some kind of "dwell-click" operation happening -- is that standard on Mac OS 10.5.5? If not, anyone know how it got on my system and, more important, how to remove it? I have XP loaded as well that I run off BootCamp, but that couldn't be the cause, could it?
Honestly, this is driving me nuts -- it is as if the computer has a mind of its own. Please help!!

  • Moving clips...fce drops the clip as soon as mouse stops... quirky glitch?

Ok so i have a bit of a problem with FCE. I am trying to move clips around in the timeline. I can move them, but as soon as I stop moving the mouse the clip just gets dropped onto the timeline.
any idea on how i can turn this function (or does it sound like a bug?)

no its not snapping. I'm litterally dragging the clips around, and as soon as I stop dragging it just drops the clip like onto the timeline.
sorry for my inaccurate explanation. I'll boot up FCE and try again to make sure its not just a 2-3 times thing.

  • Whenever I truy to load a picture or video file, it will stall until I start moving the mouse around. When I stop moving the mouse, it stalls again. I am running Firefox 4.0.1 and Vista

Any picture or video file I try to load just stalls (with the exception of sound which works OK). I move the mouse and it plays or loads. I stop moving the mouse it stalls again.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Firefox won't load pages unless mouse is moving or keyboard is pressed

    Hello,
I've seen this problem listed several times prior to this post, but none of the solutions have helped me.
I've been using Firefox for ages and the last 3 updates or so have been exhibiting this issue. When I attempt to load a website, Firefox will begin to take me to the page and then hang. The circle in the tab will stop moving and it will sit there until I move the mouse or press a button on the keyboard. As long as the mouse is continuously moving or keyboard buttons are pressed, the page will load fine. The same thing happens with YouTube. The video will start and then freeze unless the mouse/keyboard is moved. Firefox also exhibits this behavior when I try to download a file from a website. The download will start and then hang until I move the mouse or press a button, then it will continue for a few seconds and hang again until I repeat the mouse movement or keyboard button press.
So far, I've tried updating Firefox, Java and Flash; starting Firefox in Safe Mode; uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox: doing a complete uninstall and reinstall of Firefox with profile removal and creation. I've run the following ad and malware detection tools with no infections found: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, AdwCleaner, SuperAntispyware, Microsoft Safety Scanner, Windows Defender, Spybot Search & Destroy, Kasperky Free Security Scan and Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller.
The only thing that I've tried that "seemed" to work was starting Windows in Safe Mode with networking and running Firefox there. I was able to watch YouTube videos without freezing and websites appeared to load properly. Obviously, I can't run in Safe Mode all the time.
I've attached a screenshot of what it looks like when Firefox hangs on Google News. Notice that the images partly load, but a good number of them are either waiting or not loaded.
I hope someone can help me, since I really like Firefox and I'd hate to switch to Chrome or (shudder) IE.
Thanks in advance for your help!

The presence of malware on the user has been mentioned as a possible cause.
Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

  • Mail.app suddenly stops moving Junk mail

I leave Mail.app running at home, because its spam filtering is the only thing that makes reading my mail on my iPhone bearable, since the iPhone does not have any spam capabilities of its own.
But a couple of days ago, Mail.app just stopped moving my spam. I've changed nothing about my setup, and it is identifying the mail as spam: select a message, and it has the brown bar and button to mark it as Not Junk. But it's still sitting in my Inbox. The Junk folder is still there, still visible, I can move messages into it by hand, but I want Mail.app to start behaving again.
This is not the first time it has happened to me, in all the versions of Mail I've used, but it is the first time in a while. I'm wondering if there's any way to make Mail.app behave again that doesn't involve me trashing all the learning Mail.app has done?

    Hello, I have used connection doctor and it says;
    For SSL accounts:
Could not connect to this SMTP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Advanced tab of Account preferences.
    For SSL-off accounts:
Could not connect to this SMTP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences.
    For Mobile Me account:
Could not connect to this MobileMe IMAP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Advanced tab of Account preferences.
I wonder why is that happening. Additionally, I do not know if it is related but, when I try to visit Godaddy website, everything is ok, but when I try to login (it goes to https website) I am unable to open it. Also, https://email.secureserver.net is not opening too.
If there is something about SSL certificates, why SSL off account is still not connecting?
    I am really confused.

  • Making FCP stop moving everything over once I put it in the timeline

Is there anyway to make final cut stop moving EVERYTHING over in my sequence if I insert another audio file or video file?

You might be doing in insert edit when you want to do an overwrite edit.
Try dragging an audio or video clip from the browser to an edit point
on a track with a bunch of stuff on it. Before letting go of the mouse button, notice:
When the cursor is in the upper third of the track, it looks like a little arrow
pointing the right, indicating that everything will be moved to the right
    when you insert the clip.
When the cursor is in the lower two-thirds of the track, it looks like a little arrow
pointing down, indicating that everything will stay where is, but the clip
will overwrite the clips you're dragging it onto.
    Hope that helps,
    Les
