Mouse track ball broken

My brand new Mighty Mouse trackball has stopped working. It no longer scrolls down. It still scrolls up and sideways. When you scroll it down it doesn't make that little clicking sound that it usually makes and still makes when you scroll the other three directions. Is there a way I can fix this?

*Hi warpdesign, Welcome (Back)* to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
The scroll wheel needs cleaning. Lint free cloth dampened w water or alcohol. Unplug and turn over and scroll vigorously for a while. Some like to blow out w canned air.
If that doesn't work, Apple is pretty good about replacement.
Good Luck, JP

  • In need of a Mighty Mouse Track Ball

Something small and hard, fell in the mouse track ball area and while i was pressing it (upside down) on a piece of paper to clean it, that little hard piece of dust, carved the surface of my track ball making it unable to scroll without jumping around!
So im now in the need of purchasing a new ball and replacing it! Does the ball as a part exist? Because i can't find anything on ebay! Any help?

What exactly am i looking for in the "about this Mac" specs? I mean i have found the mouses info, i think this is it:
but what numbers must be used in order to locate it from mouseballz website?

  • Mighty Mouse Track Ball

Does any one else have issues with the mighty mouse track ball?? My does not work half the time. When it is working it will only work in one direction half of that time.
Does anyone know of ways to clean it?? Or keep this from happening?

I've read all the posting about this..in recent months I've been cleaning the track ball 6,7,8,9....times every day. I had planned to buy a wireless Mighty Mouse but not now, it'd be cheaper to sit in front of my Mac bashing my testicles with a mallet for the same effect. Apple, this is an utter design disaster. Like Joachim says, why not a mouse we can open and clean easily, or a larger, more robust track ball mechanism? I'm off to but a mouse by anyone but Apple...

  • HT2845 why doesn't my mighty mouse track ball scroll up or down vertically?

why doesn't my mighty mouse track ball scroll up or down vertically?

    Hi:
New ones are not that expensive, but I would try running it up and down (vigorously) on microfiber cloth or a towel or something.
If that does not fix it...yes I would buy a new one.  I like wireless ones anyway

  • Mighty Mouse Tracking Ball

The tracking ball on my Mighty Mouse works side-to-side and up, but not down. It feels as though there's some debris in the way preventing it from letting me scroll down.
Is there a way to clean it with breaking it?
Can I take it apart safely?
Any reponses would be greatly appreciated.

    Stephen,
This has a tendency to happen a lot---for some reason it attracts dirt like anything.
Just simply get a damp, lint-free fabric and rub it vigorously on the scroll button, making sure you let it roll freely as you do so (to get the entire ball on all sides)---right side up first, so you can see the smudge building up on the sides where the button meets the rest of the casing. You will see some particles get trapped in this a lot. Scrape off all the gook from there...
Let it rest for a minute or two, to completely dry it from the dampness caused by the fabric, and then turn it upside down while rolling the button to free any other remaining residue...

  • Mouse Track Ball only working in one direction

    Hello,
My Mighty Mouse is 3 months old and now the track ball is only working in one dircetion.
When I move the ball forward I hear the distinct sound and the scroll bar on e.g. Safari moves, but when I reverse there is no movement on the screen.
I don't hear the same sound as when I move the track ball forward.
I have tried to reboot but no improvement.
Have someone seen teh same issue? Is the solution to simply replace the mouse?
    Thanks / Christer

  • Mighty Mouse track ball button

I have been using Snow Leopard for a while and one of the things that I like the most is that I can choose what I want to see in my screen when I move my cursor to the lower right or left corner.
I have it set up as to SHOW ALL WINDOWS if I move my cursor to the lower right corner, well after I moved to LION that is no loger an option, instead of showing all windows open all it shows are the open windows open of the same application only, How can I set it up the way it was before, is there like a script or something.
also can it be set up so when I click the tracking ball on my Might Mouse to show ALL windows and not just the program windows?

  • Mouse tracking ball gets clogged easily

Has anyone else had this problem?
I am on my second USB mouse with the little tracking ball in the middle. The same thing is happening that happened to the last one. The tracking ball will stop working in 1 direction or the other. It takes blowing air in there & vigorous running the ball up & down to eventually free it up. Each time it becomes harder to bring it back to health.
It appears to get gunked up in there. This used to happen w/ the old fashioned roller-ball mouse too, but you could pop the cap, remove the ball, and clean out the rollers.
Is there any solution to the new generation of mouse?
    thanks

  • Just Upgraded to Lion X 10.7 and my mouse (tracker ball) has changed its direction. how to reset to previous?

need to reverse the tracker ball direction, seems to have reversed after upgrade..

Same with my trackpad here, I went to
    System preferences
    Trackpad
there is an option to change the direction of scrolling in the "scolling and zooming" section.
I bet it is similar to the mouse prefs.
    Best regards

  • My mouse track ball skips when scrolling?

    Hello,
I'm using an older wireless mouse and it has not been scrolling correctly.  I was wondering if anyone knows how to clean the little ball on top of the mouse?

    Hello:
Turn it upside down and run it over plain paper (vigorously).  Running it over a microfiber cloth is even better.

  • Mighty mouse: tracking ball not working well

"No, kidding", I am sure you are all saying:)
The mouse works in three directions, but not going down. I have just read another post where someone with the same identical problem as me was told to turn it upside down and rub it vigorously onto a piece of paper. I have done that, but there is no change. Any advice??? Thanks.

The phone number I found in my manual in the UK is (44) 0870 876 0753.
Personally I find the website OK but I have to admit sometimes I get a little frustrated but overall I find it very helpful. Last you can always use Google, which is extremely easy.
As I mentioned you can always go to an Apple Store, here is the link so you can search for the closest store in the UK there are quite a few. I know there is at least one store in Glasgow of course I have no idea how close that is to you.

I'm afraid I can't help you on their policies however if you would like to provide Apple feedback go to www.apple.com/feedback.

  • Mouse ball broken

The ball on my mouse will only roll up. I cant scroll down on pages anymore. Im guessing i just need to get a new mouse although i just got this computer. Any tips?

    Hello,
    You're ball may need cleaning.
This is a common problem with ball-type controllers.
The oils from your fingers get on the ball, and transfer to the mechanism.
I used to have this problem with the "track-ball" controllers. That's why I switched to mice.
The balls would get slicked-up and require cleaning frequently. So, I switched back to mice which required less frequent cleaning. But, the Apple Mighty Mouse's scroll-ball has this same problem.
The cure is simple enough. I have a young daughter, and just grab one of her baby wipes (diaper wipes), and use the wipe between my finger and the scroll ball on the mighty mouse while scrolling in each direction several times.
After several turns, the ball will be clean, and the ball should regain it's functionality again.
A soft slightly damp (not very wet, but just lightly damp) wash-rag should also work fine. Don't use any harsh chemicals. I would recommend water (very little of it) or at the strongest maybe rubbing alcohol (again very little of it).
You only want to have the rag damp enough to wipe the oils from the ball. You don't want enough liquid to cause problems (such as dripping inside the mouse).
I do this every couple of weeks on my mighty mouse. I find that it is good for a couple weeks at a time. While I am at it, I also wipe down and clean the bottom of the mouse (where the gliding surface is). This removes dirt from the sliding rails and edges that cause the mouse to drag a little as you move it around.
Let us know if this fixes the problem for you.
    I hope this helps.

  • Mouse and track ball working together in leopard

i just upgraded to a new 8 core from a dual g5 tiger. 1 thing i was able to do with out loading the logitech drivers... which when reading forums ,is nothing but trouble.with tiger g5 i was able to connect my mouse for right hand and logitech marble track ball for left. then in preferences i could set system preferences primary mouse button to right so ican use my thumb left hand. now with new computer and mouse it doesn't allow that. any ideas how to make it work how i want it
    thanks

    HI,
Check the Logitech site to see if you can update a driver for the mouse. Read the information carefully to make sure this is the software you need. It supports Macintosh OS X OS 10.3.9, 10.4.x, 10.5.x
    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/494/3129&cl=us,en
As with any software update, repair disk permissions after you finish installing the software.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.

  • Broken disk that holds track ball in place

Does anyone know what to do?
I bought an 8330 last August from Verizon.  All but one prong on the disk that holds the track ball in place are broken.  I went to the Verizon store where I bought the phone.  They don't keep pieces to BBs in stock and told me to call customer service.  Customer service switched me to warranty who said that due to the breakage it was an insurance problem.  I called Assurian insurance and they said that this type of problem isn't covered.  I have no ideal what I did with the insurance papers so I don't know what they say about coverage.  I was told that if I bought and replaced the trackball myself that I would be voiding the warranty.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Replace the trackball and retainer yourself.
You can by replacement parts and the carrier will never know.
I have attached a reputable vendor for the parts.
Also a video of the repair.
