Mouse tracking speed not saving in Lion

Lion does not appear to remember/save my mouse tracking speed setting. I set it to a faster speed but it reverts every time I restart. Is there a .plist file somewhere that I can delete to maybe fix this? Anyone else experience this? Thanks.

Im using Razer Death Adder also on my iMac27"
Since i upgraded to OSX Lion... im having the same problem as well..
Everytime i turn on my computer... it resets to the lowest speed..
I have to re-adjust my mouse speed setting....
oh also... if i change the speed as soon as OSX is booted, and open up an application afterworth.. like firefox or WoW..
it resets again!!
So now i have to open up an application first and then change the mouse speed setting... so i dont have to change the setting twice......
this is stupid...
seems like no promise of driver or firmware update from both apple nor Razer....
anyone have solution to this?
btw i do not use Magic Prefs

  • Mouse tracking speed decreased in Mavericks

I've noticed that after upgreading to Mavericks my Mouse tracking speed decreased in comparison to Mountain Lion. (I have tracking speed in preferences set to max)
Do you have any idea how to increase tracking speed? If not, Apple you should leave the range of tracking speed as it was.

I was experiencing the same problem after updating to Mavericks and as a graphic designer it was driving me absolutely CRAZY. After doing some research online I found this: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/34817/mouse-acceleration
It's a quick, free download and it completely solved my problem. Now I actually enjoy Mavericks.
Apple why do you keep changing things that work fine to begin with? This is iTunes 11 all over again.

  • Cf# file, lost help viewer, & mouse tracking speed very fast...

Yes really ! - I do believe it all happened at once.
No recent system changes/updates/hacks - OS has latest updates - all worked splendidly...until:
put the mac to sleep, back 1/2 hr later & changed mouse batteries - woke it up & mouse speed is superfast, help viewer wasn't working & files starting with cf# keep appearing momentarily in ~/library/preferences/ . the format seems to be cf#xxxxx - a different one each time
maybe the file thing is nothing to do with it? - but would be interested in what it is.
Help viewer fixed by trashing cache & plists - now fine
Mouse speed can be slowed to a crawl using sys prefs-mouse & keyboard-tracking speed but just one step up from that; it's superfast again. The speed does increase even more if the slider is moved higher.
So Question - finally! - is this lot related in any way?
    what's the cf#7zgE1 file about?
what other files might compromise the mouse tracking speed ( I have no mouse-enhancing software )
    Thankyou

re: cf#xxxx files, you wrote:"I'd love to, but they appear/disappear in an instant - took 7 attempts with grab to get a shot that included one. Nothing in console, no startup/login items at all."The information macjack provided in the link you cited isn't particularly relevant. All that document describes is the Mac OS X facilities for creating and managing preferences files, part of Core Foundation Framework. It doesn't explain the cf#xxxx files, it merely discusses preferences from a programmer's perspective.
Since the appearance of these, and their mention on the Discussions, is a relatively new phenomenon, I'd be more inclined to suspect they are the side effect of some third-party application you may have installed recently, e.g. some bit of new shareware, a widget, etc. Such an app may be temporarily writing and removing those files, but the fact that they begin with "cf" may have been a developer's choice. The file names don't even correspond to the standard for preferences files. Just because they're in the Preferences folder does not make them preferences.
I don't see them on my system. You'll have to monitor apps you launch, running widgets, third-party menu extras, etc. to see if the creation of the files begins after some such process is launched.
If they show up, as you noted, with just Mail and Safari running (assuming you did not open Dashboard, which results in all widgets being launched), then they could be the result of either an Internet plug-in or a Mail plug-in you might have installed.
    Good luck!

  • Audio track edits not saved

I am using Captivate 4. I have a group of files where any edits I make to the audio track are not saved. The audio plays back fine in the audio editor. It just will not save the changes I make to the audio track (cut segments, add silent segments, etc.) I make a change, click OK in the audio editor, close the editor. When I reopen the editor the changes are not saved. I tried uninstalling and reintalling Captivate. I tried saving the file under a different name. Any ideas why this might be happening and if there is any workaround? thanks.

    Hi there
You should ensure that Captivate has been updated to the most recent release. The developers released an update after the initial release. Additionally, you may need to follow what is outlined in this blog post. I had to do that on my PC.

  • Why does my mouse tracking speed randomly shift to the slowest level?

Since I downloaded Mavericks OSX 10.9.3, my mouse tracking speed randomly shifts to the slowest speed. Is there a way to change this?

If it's a wired mouse, check the battery level in System Preferences > Mouse often.
If it's USB, try a another USB port to test.

  • Mouse tracking speed, 3rd party help!

I have a Kensignton Mouse and I am running Kensington Mouseworks. I have a 23 inch screen and the mouse tracking speed even at the slowest setting (in Mouseworks software) is MUCH too fast. I am doing 3D work which requires precision.
I have contacted Kensington but they are terrible, they keep telling me to change the setting in the Mouseworks software, or re-install the software, but I have done this to no avail.
My question: is there another way to do this? Can I use other mouse software, or is there any setting in OSX to get my result?
    thanks in advance

it says that bluetooth functionality isn't yet available, is there another driver that works with bluetooth?
i just bought a logitech bluetooth mouse with ... a whole bunch of buttons. osx recognizes the mouse and it works great with the two mouse buttons, basic scroll functionality (it has omni scroll direction mouse wheel, but osx only lets it scroll up and down like a normal scroll wheel) and i can program any 3 of the 14 buttons (scroll wheel buttons included) to make expose work. The thing is, i want to be able to program every one of those buttons to do something, and i want to have the scroll wheel work properly along with the two page up/down buttons just in front/back of the scroll wheel. essentiallyl, a driver that will make it work the way it should.
i've already checked the logitech website

  • Mouse System Preferences not saved

I´m using a MacMini with the latest updtes and only apple harware, suddenly the mouse stoped puping up the dashboard, when I go to system preferences the scroll botton is not asigned to the dashboard, a click on it and then it works fine as long as i do not close system preferences, if I do close them then it stops working and if I reopen system preferences the button is again not asigned to the dashborad, the fact is that the preferences I define for the mouse regardless of the funcion i asign to them are not saved after closing system preferences.
    Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you might have a series of corrupt preference (.plist) files, or else more problems.
    likely a corrupt
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist  and a  com.apple.dockpreferences.plist files in your User/Library folder
However it might not be just that alone

  • Apple Magic Mouse tracking speed

Is there a reason that every time I restart my 15" 2010 MBP  that system preferences forgets my tracking speed for the magic mouse?  It is very annoying to have to go into system preferences and changer it everytime I do a system restart.  Operating system is the latest Version of Mavericks.
Thank you for any help to answer or resolve this issue.

Thank you I had that program installed and the tracking speed in that application was set slower and was overriding the mouse preference.  Simple Fix.  Thanks again!

  • Mouse Track speed either slow or fast no in between

I changed the batteries in my apple bluetooth mouse and now the track speed is either slow or fast there is no in between

You know, I have. I know there are options in the Bluetooth preference pane to "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" and that usually takes care of it. But, as is the case with me, sometimes the prefs revert to this option being checked so when the mouse sleeps, it wakes the computer because the computer just HAS to notify the user that the Bluetooth mouse has disconnected.
Personally, what I've begun doing is cradling the mouse before putting the computer to sleep. That way, if the software is going to have issue with the mouse being suddenly off, it'll happen before it sleeps. Now if your problem extends further beyond that, where even cradled the thing still wakes your computer, that's a problem I haven't experienced yet...

  • Login window mouse tracking speed

Hi I was just wondering if there was a way to make the tracking speed of your mouse faster on the login window. I have made the speed in my account as high as possible through terminal and was wondering if there was any way to do this for the login window. Thanks in advance.

That's a setting of the root account.
If you're familiar with the setting via terminal for your own account, you might just be able to do it via terminal but for the root account.
Otherwise, you need to enable the root account. Login to the account, adjust the setting, log out, disable root again.

they didn't remove it. they just moved it. this option is available in system preferences->universal access->mouse&trackpad.

  • Mouse Tracking Speed

I have found a few articles online that discussed upping the tracking speed on my mouse. I tried this method...
    open ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
and it doesn't stick on my personal machine (details below) but it worked just fine on my work machine, and it's also 10.5.2.
Any ideas? I also tried mousezoom, with no luck. This slow mouse is really killing me.
    Thanks for any help.

    Malcome,
Thanks, I had steer mouse installed initially. Worked flaky on my macbook pro, so didn't bother transferring it to the tower, but I will give it another shot.
    thanks

  • Question about mouse track speed and interpolation.

To give context it's a regular practise for windows gamers to set their mouse/pointer speed to 6/11 (middle notch, 6th out of the 11) in your system settings.
The reason being that setting provides a 1:1 ratio, signal from your mouse translating into pointer movement without any interpolation.
Which brings me to my question: On what setting, in Leopard, do you get that 1:1 ratio / zero interpolation.

  • Mighty mouse: tracking ball not working well

"No, kidding", I am sure you are all saying:)
The mouse works in three directions, but not going down. I have just read another post where someone with the same identical problem as me was told to turn it upside down and rub it vigorously onto a piece of paper. I have done that, but there is no change. Any advice??? Thanks.

The phone number I found in my manual in the UK is (44) 0870 876 0753.
Personally I find the website OK but I have to admit sometimes I get a little frustrated but overall I find it very helpful. Last you can always use Google, which is extremely easy.
As I mentioned you can always go to an Apple Store, here is the link so you can search for the closest store in the UK there are quite a few. I know there is at least one store in Glasgow of course I have no idea how close that is to you.

I'm afraid I can't help you on their policies however if you would like to provide Apple feedback go to www.apple.com/feedback.
