Mouse Wheel stopped working [SOLVED]

Hi,
The wheel of my mouse stopped working in either KDE4 or E17 two days ago. I have searched the forums but not found a fix. It appears to be a problem with X.  I have tried various changes to my xorg.conf to no avail.  In XEV, the left-most button shows as button 1, the rightmost button as button 3. When I press the wheel it shows as button 2 but when I roll the wheel it does nothing. The mouse is one of the early logitech wheel mice. Nothing fancy. Here is the relevant portion of my xorg.conf;
    Identifier     "Mouse0"
    Driver         "mouse"
    Option         "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
    Option        "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
    Option        "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
I have also tried ZAxismapping with "4 5 6 7"  and "Device" "/dev/psaux" and that doesn't work either.
Any ideas???  I hadn't realized just how much one uses the wheel!

I found a post on a Suse forum and changed the ExpolrerPS/2 to all lowercase, rebooted the machine and it works now. Weird or what???
Thanks,

  • Mouse wheel stop working after upgrade

Hi. After upgrading my Leopard to 10.5.8 the mouse wheel stop scrolling window content, like web pages. I'd open the mouse control panel and there is a zooming feauture. It's working like this: moving wheel back makes a fast zoom, and moving ahead makes a slow zoom. Both directions make more zoom (slow and fast) and there is no going back but deactivating before desktop reach my nose.
So I beleive the system is getting wrong the resources of my mouse. Where can I setup this?
Oh, it's a Microsoft Wireless mouse.

Yes! I'd install the software pack of the mouse for Mac OS X that adds a control panel at Sistem Preferences and I take control - and the wheel came back!
But it's not easy finding it in Microsoft.com (in my case: .br). You got to start by hardware products and follow support links, system, etc..
    Thank you for the tip!

  • Logitech mouse wheel stopped working

    Hello,
I had this mouse for a long time. It's a Logitech Cordless Optical mouse connected to a Linksys KVM (I share with 4 different computers). Last week the mouse scroll wheel stooped working. I tried another Logitech mouse (G9) to directly to the USB of my Mac and the mouse wheel scrolls fine.
Now the problem's the old mouse wheel works fine on my other computers. I tried turning the KVM off, resetting the IR unit, and of course rebooting my mac. Nothing worked. The odd thing is, if I connect the old mouse directly to the Mac, it works OK.
I really hate the G9. I'd rather stick with my current mouse, but I need the scroll wheel. Any ideas?

Your profile lists one of the computers as "Hackintosh." Because OS X is licensed for use only with Apple branded computers & the Discussions Terms of Use prohibit discussing illegal uses of software, & equally importantly because we have no idea of how running a hacked version of OS X on non-Apple hardware might be a part of your problem, we cannot help you.
    Sorry.

  • My mouse wheel stops working after a few minutes every time I load Firefox. I've searched through various fixes, but none of them have worked for me. Help!

I have a Lenovo desktop and mouse. I haven't had this problem with any other program.

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.
Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is
and what it does. Also, check the programs that are on your computer

  • Why does the scroll wheel stop working since version 3.6

Ever since the installation of version 4.0 there has been an issue with the scroll wheel not working properly. For the most part it works but occasionally the wheel stops working and no longer scrolls the pages up and down. At this point I need to close out the browser and reopen.

Thanks for the reply, I have checked my driver and shows it is up to date. I manually updated the driver again but as it was unzipping the files all the existing files were being replaced with files with the same build date so I'm pretty sure the mouse driver is up to date.
Is IE Tab an addon for firefox? If so then I don't have it installed.

  • Mouse Clicks stop working randomly

So far I have noticed several times on my Quad Core 27 inch imac that the mouse clicks stop working.  This is with two different mice, plugged in together, so I know it's not mouse or driver related.  It happens to both of them whenever it does happen.
The only correlation I can make is that it usually happens when I am on a website.  I might even have noticed a correlation with "flash based" modules and components on websites, but this could be speculation at this point.
Apple, I love you, but having to hard restart my $2000 computer because the mouse is inoperable is unacceptable.  Figure this out.  There is no excuse for this.  PC's don't do this.  I've never had a computer do this in my entire life and words cannot describe how frustrating it is, especially when you are in the middle of trying to get some work done...
    -Matt

Try hitting the escape key on the keyboard (ESC). I've noticed that some property sheets, dialogs, and context menus can get 'lost' if you change focus to another program intentionally or accidentally, or if an application 'steals focus' (fairly rare in OS X). You may have to Command + Tab between applications to find where things are 'hung up'. Flash seems especially bad about hanging after a right click tries to call up a context menu.

  • My magic mouse just stopped working

My magic mouse just stopped working. I have rebooted the iMac and changed the batteries. Nothing is fixing it. What do I do next? When I turn the mouse on the green light on the bottom stays on for a few seconds and then flashes twice, pause and repeat.
On a side note. I just brought home a MBP about an hour before the issue. I turned bluetooth off on the MBP but could it be the problem? It was working fine with both machines on for about an hour.

OK somehow after a couple restarts it fixed itself. ANy idea on why it did that?
    Thanx for any help

  • Mouse Clicking Stops Working

    Hi everyone,
Suddenly, for no discernible reason, mouse-clicking stops working. The cursor moves around on the screen, but clicking produces no results. This has happened multiple times [in Safari 3.0.4, iCal 3.0, iTunes 7.4.2; Photoshop CS2 (v 9.0.2)]. Restarting is the only solution I've found.
I use a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse combo. Thinking the Logitech driver might be the culprit, I swapped in the original keyboard and mouse that came with the computer. Same results: at times, clicking the cursor does nothing.
    Any ideas?

I experienced this issue as well.
The only patch I am aware of is the following:
    - Press the OPTION key, 5 times in a row (this will trigger an option in the Universal Access pane of the System Preferences that allows you to use your keyboard as a mouse). You'll hear a sound warning.
    - Press the OPTION key, 5 times in a row AGAIN to revert to the previous status.
Your mouse should now be able to click again.

Why has my magic mouse suddenly stopped working? I'm using 10.6.8

We can't know. You have not told us what exactly the problem is. If there are any warnings, you need to provide them along with other info like the crash logs. If not you have to explain the situation in more detail. Just saying that it doesn't work anymore is not particularly useful.

  • Touch Wheel stopped working.

I have a nano. My touch wheel stopped working. I can't scroll with it and I can't click with it either. The nano turns on and it does charge, but the wheel won't let me do anything. Anyone else ever experience this?

This didn't work. I tried it. I actually have already tried the 5 r's. I should have prefaced that the nano is 1 year old almost to the day. The touch wheel still doesn't work and I'm wondering if there is a loose wire. Do you know how much it costs to get the touch wheel fixed by any chance?

  • [SOLVED] Mouse buttons stopped working

I have a Logitech Marble Mouse (connected via a USB to PS/2 adapter).  It has no scrollwheel, so I set up the small "extra" pair of buttons to toggle "scroll mode" in certain applications (like Firefox & Chrome).  When activated, moving the trackball scrolls the page up/down/left/right instead of moving the pointer.
It's been working fine for months, but a week or so ago, the scroll buttons suddenly stopped working.  The settings are contained at the very bottom of the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.org, and the only other file in that directory matches "ThinkPad HDAPS acceleromer data", so shouldn't affect the mouse settings.
(The buttons that don't work are "B" and "C", which both activated scroll mode:)

    Option "YAxisMapping" "4 5"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
    Option "Emulate3Buttons" "false"
    EndSection
I've tried playing around with the button-mapping, even jumbling 4 5 6 7 to 5 4 7 6 (which, I thought, should invert the movement of the pointer), but none of this has any effect.  I've checked /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and I don't seem to have any mouse-related settings there... and I've read the wiki, but I can't see what I'm doing wrong!
    Can anyone help? :-)

I don't think, that evdev has something to do with the xf86-input-mouse. But I belive, this is a real issue, because my good old configuration stopped working (buttons aren't customized) today as well. Looks like the reason is hidden somewhere in yesterdays pacman -Syu .

  • SWF in iFrame - How to get mouse wheel to work

I have been searching for a solution to this for a few days
without any luck. I was hoping someone here may have come across
this problem and know of a solution, or know if it just is not
    possible.
I have a static page which consists of an iframe, picture and
a div with some links. The image is an image map and set to load
all links within the iframe. The flash itself is a 360 degree
panoramic view with hotspots (links) within the file that also
point to other pages. My issue is that the mouse wheel scroll is
supposed to be a zoom in/out feature, which work with the flash
file and full screen view. However, when the file is loaded within
the iframe, the scroll wheel on the mouse will only scroll the page
and will not interact with the flash file at all.
The problem seems to be with the following browsers (PC):
    Chrome 0.4
    Opera 9.5
    Firefox 3.0
The zoom works in IE6, although the page does scroll with it.
When I disabled the page from scrolling (see index2.html) the zoom
stops working. This is probably due to the code used to disable the
mouse. I really need to try to get the mouse wheel to zoom in
FireFox 3 though. The large majority of our visitors are PC users
with FireFox 3 or IE 7, so these are the two most important
    browsers to have working.
The pages are still currently under development but examples
    are online here:
    http://www.utoledo.edu/campus/virtualtour/maincampus/index.html
    -Normal page
    http://www.utoledo.edu/campus/virtualtour/maincampus/index2.html
    -Page with scrolling disabled
Does anyone have any ideas for a possible solution? Thanks
for taking the time to help.

As far as I know, there is no facility for detecting mouse scrolling wheel in JDK 1.3.
Check it in the later releases of JDK.

  • HP X4000b Bluetooth Mouse (H3T50AA) stops working if not moved for a while, then computer crashes

I will be very happy if someone answers this, 'cos from all the other related posts, my outlook is pretty bleak. At least give me the thumbs up for trying, or a little human contact. Proof this post existed.
Alright, I (fairly) recently updated to windows 8.1on my Samsung quad-core notebook - Model is NP905S3G
For the full info- see the picture.
Anyway, the problem is, that ever since I installed Windows 8.1, if I don't move the mouse for around 1minute when it is on (i.e. I just leave it still for 1 min because I'm typing stuff), it stops working. Moving the mouse simply doesn't do anything. If I look on the 'devices' screen, it is still shown as connected, and I can try re-connecting it, but it doesn't work. Turning on and off doesn't work. Pressing that little blue 'connect' button doesn't seem to do anything normally, and in this case, does nothing. Un-installing and re-installing the mouse does not permanently solve the problem (but does restore connectivity, at least until I leave the mouse idle for too long again)
Currently, once the mouse has stopped moving on the screen, I press the power button (which for me makes my computer sleep). When I do this 1 of 2 things happen; either it goes to sleep as instructed, or it stays on indefinitely, and I have to hold the power button for 5 seconds to do an emergency shut-down. This is a pain, especially since nothing is saved, and the computer takes extra-long to turn on the next time.
The real problem is this: about five minutes after the mouse becomes unresponsive, the computer crashes. It is during this five minute period that I can save all my stuff, but if I have been typing non-stop, I may not even notice that the mouse has stopped moving, and so the computer often crashes at unpredictable times. This of course is a major annoyance, and what’s more, sometimes just when I click a link my mouse freezes, and I have to restart my computer or let it crash.
The crash message is DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE, and comes on a blue screen with a message saying the computer is collecting some error info, and a silly little smiley face. I have come to hate that smiley face.
If you’ve read this far, thank you very much, PLEASE FIND A SOLUTION, MY MOUSE IS PRETTY UNUSABLE AT THE MOMENT
PS. When I feel it is too risky to use a mouse, I use the touchpad. The setting where tapping=clicking really annoys me, and I also don’t like the inverted scrolling. I change these settings on my preferences, but for some reason they are never saved once I turn my computer on. They used to be saved before updating from Windows 8 to 8.1. Any suggestions?

Not actually solved. The problem still happens and isn't limited to me or my headset.
I just want this question out of my sidebar and this is the only way to do that!

  • Mouse wheel stops scrolling page, and sometimes refresh does not refresh the correct tab, but the first one in the window.

I have 27 firefox windows open with a grand total of 141 tabs.
Some times the input is directed to the wrong window. I will click refresh and it will refresh the first tab in a window, but not the tab I am on. Apparently this also happens when I try and use the mouse wheel or the up and down arrow to scroll a page.
Some times it works correctly on 1 window, but when I switch to another scrolling stops working.
Usually rebooting the computer helps, but I should not have to do that.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
