Mouse will not drag & drop?

My USB mouse has suddenly stopped dragging & dropping files. It's ok within some applications, i.e. moving graphics around a document or audio files within Logic, but I can't drag documents from one folder to another, or off the desktop into folders etc.. I have to cut & paste. The track pad is the same. It seems to do everything else it's supposed to. Any ideas?? Have I accidentally deleted a driver file or something? Thank you in anticipation.

Sorry, I have run through these suggestions but they have not worked either. As the previous post suggested, I have downloaded and reinstalled the OS 10.2.8 combo upgrade but this has made no change. (Although I didn't actually erase the existing drive) I have a 'normal' 1 button Apple USB mouse which doesn't require software. That of course is the great thing about our great computers just plug it in and you know it will work!. Perhaps there is a small driver file hidden somewhere which I have inadvertently erased? Don't know how this might have occurred. Can't see anything on the Apple site for this type of problem. Are there drivers for normal mice.

  • My mouse will not drag sometimes

I use OSX 10.8.5 and now the mouse is not behaving.  Sometimes it won't drag and often when I select something, it won't hold it for an action but just releases it.  I am assuming this is the mouse but could it be the computer?

If it a corded  mouse, try strighting the cord out, they get tangled and effect
If is a Blu-tooth or wireless mouse check the batteries

  • Pages 5 will not drag/drop individual pages in thumbnail view, grabs all pages!

When I try to grab a page in thumbnail view to move, it grabs all the pages in the document and I cannot move the page I want. Any ideas?
    Thanks

What happens when the page breaks mid sentence? Do you just scramble the content? Your documents would rapidly be shuffled into unintelligibility.
I just checked in Word for Mac. It doesn't let you just drag random pages out of order either.
Pages has a mode, the same as Word for Mac, Layout mode where every page is individual and can be reordered at will.
The problem in Pages 5.2 is that it doesn't have Textbox linking that lets you flow text from one place to another in a document.
Pages '09 has Textbox linking and another 110 features missing from Pages 5.2.

  • When dragging and dropping files in Lion Apple Magic Mouse will not "let go" of file even after button is released

When selecting file or drive icon or text, the mouse will not release the item.  Pressing esc will release item but only back to original location.

I presume drag lock isn't checked in System Preferences, but it sounds like maybe it's been set elsewhere, like by a corrupt prefs file? Can some OS X guru provide a Terminal command to disable drag lock just to be sure?
I have a problem, also on a new MBP 2010 i7 /10.6.4, that isn't the same but might be related. The time required for the system to "release" an item selected by the pointer is exceptionally long. And if I try to click elsewhere before the pointer has been released, it only serves to extend the time. It's annoying and reduces productivity.
Speed settings in Sys Prefs has no effect, and no other hardware is attached, using just the trackpad.
I hope there's a setting that can be changed via Terminal; can anyone suggest the right terminology for the parameter(s) that need to change?

  • XfinityConnect Email attachments will not drag and drop.

DATE (yyyy-mm-dd) : 2015-04-10 15:00PM Email attachments will not drag and drop.   This feature was working for years, then suddenly I only can attach files to an Email by opening up the directory browser to.... aaarg... go get one - file - at - a - time, or zip 'em up for the one fetch, yet still... drag and drop is soooooo much better. Specifications:Using XfinityConnect 'full' version.Do not use an email client.Browser/version Windows Explorer V11Cleared browser cache.Operating system: Windows 7 Ultimate

I have the same complaint.  Drag and drop worked until last week, 2015-04-05!    Must now do one at a time through the ATTACH button at top of E-mail.   Why change a good process?

  • IPhoto suddenly will not drag

My iPhoto suddenly will not drag and drop, nor can I email, or upload to Facebook from iPhoto. I can upload from my iPhone just fine but can not use the photos once they are in iPhoto. I have never had this problem before, it just started. Any suggestions as to what might be causing this?

The disk must be formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, exporting, saving edits and sharing the photos.

  • My mouse will not scroll down pages in Firefox 4 and up.

The scroll wheel on the mouse no longer works in any version of Firefox from version 4 and up. None of the suggestions I have seen in responses to similar questions do not work. The only thing that works is to downgrade to version 3.6.20 or lower. I am presently using Firefox 6 with Windows XP SP3.

I have the same problem, the mouse is incompatible with Safari for Windows and MAC. I have instalkled the latest drivers and yet no joy. Switched to my old Logitech M305 and everything works fine. Also my MS Wheel mouse (Corded) works just fine too. After many tries the MS 4000 Wireless mous will not work with safari.
Why the incompatibility? It surely is software related and seems to be related to the mouse driver.

  • Targus bluetooth mouse will not connect in bootcamp

I have a Targus blueetooth mouse that will not connect in bootcamp. It has worked fine for a long time in XP and 7. Then I upgraded the haddrive and had to do a lean install of Windows 7 and the Apple bootcamp 5. Now it will not connect at all. I have the "Apple Broadcom Built-in Bluetooth" seleted , it sees the mouse but it tries to connect and just stalls. This is very frustrating since without the mouse it is nearly impossible to troubleshoot Windows.

Bluetooth mouse will not connect my wireless mouse...
    what works +every time+ for me :
use your fingers to move the cursor up to the bluetooth icon (top right of display)
click bluetooth icon, select user mouse / connect
then quickly move the cursor up (with fingers) so it touches or is very close to the bluetooth icon
and start clicking with your mouse (making sure the mouse is on obviously).
I have NO idea why but this works on my MacBookPro everytime. If I try to connect without moving the cursor near the BT icon it won't connect (or takes at least 10 trys).

  • TS3048 My keyboard will connect wirelessly but my mouse will not. I've put new batteries in the mouse and the green light is blinking but it just won't connect!!! I don't have a 'wired' mouse so I can't get into preferences etc!!! Pls help

My keyboard will connect wirelessly but my mouse will not. I have tried many times, put new batteries in etc. The Bluetooth appears to be on (as the wireless keyboard is working). I don't have a 'wired' mouse so I can't get into preferences etc. Is the mouse dead perhaps? The green light is flickering so it should be ok???
    Thank you for your help
    Sully (frustrated Irishman)

From what you say I would suggest the batteries are not connecting properly.
First, thoroughly clean all contacts, both inside the mouse and the contact points of the batteries.  Use an alcohol based cleaner (whisky will do, hic!)  dampen (not wet) cotton buds for cleaning.
Then check to see if they fit firmly.   If you can shake your mouse and hear things are loose, that will be the batteries.   Check the make.   Apple and Duracell, in that order, are the best batteries.   Where slight undersizing has been reported they are with other than the foregoing.
You can resolve the size problem with appropriate packing but that will always be a makeshift solution.  After, reassemble, turn on the mouse and with luck, away you go.
Hopefully this will solve your problem but in any case let us know how you get on.

  • I cannot click on flash objects such as youtube, bbc iplayer and 4od, plus the mouse will not autohide.

When visiting sites that play videos using flash, I am able to start the videos playing, but then am unable to interact with options such as fullscreen and pause. I am not encountering this problem in safari/chrome.
When starting videos to play in fullscreen, the mouse will not autohide as it will on other browsers.

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Mouse will not scroll up or down

My Mouse will not Scoll up or down now. I've cleaned it, unpluged it, restarted my IMAC and checked for update.
I'm currently running Mac OS X 10.7.5 on my IMAC. Can anyone help me with this issue.
    Thanks
    Mrs.Samantha

Go to System Preferences > Accessibility, and in the list on the left click the item "Zoom".
Then make sure that feature is enabled (checkmarked) in the pane on the right, and that Control has been set as the modifier.
