Mouse won't click!

This is driving me crazy. I have a wireless bluetooth mouse made by Rocketfish. It won't left-click, but the right-click works for some things. To me it seems like the right-click has taken some of the functions that the left-click used to do. I can select menu items, but I can not click any buttons. So here is the situation.
From the login screen I can r/c and select my profile.
Type in my password and hit enter. That gets me into the desktop.
Immediately I get a message telling me about my computer haveing been restarted after an unexpected shutdown and a iCal notification about an appointment last week. I can't do anything with either of these windows. They don't seem to function like normal windows, so close all doesn't work. The only way to close them is to click the button in the window which I can't do.
So now I am trying to reset the mouse or look at help topics using the combination of the mouse and keyboard, but any window that pops up is hidden by these other two windows, and I can't see what I need to see. Nor can I click on any of the options.
I've changed the mouse with a USB mouse, and even used the mouse off my PC. All do the same.
I tried booting in safe mose, but that didn't fix the problem.
I read somewhere about booting from the disk, but I don't know how to do that. Also someone suggested restarting the disk utilities or something. When I tried that, I got to the point where I needed to click the button and could go no farther.
I have a sneaking suspicion my 11 year old was playing with something she shouldn't have like the universal access stuff, but she won't admit it and I don't know how to fix it.
I'm an old PC user, so if you guys have an idea how to fix it, please be gentle with the mac-lingo. Also keep in mind I can't click on anything, so keyboard shortcuts are a must.
Thank you for your help.

Hello again:
While you are asking people +"did you read"+ - did you read my post about an archive and install?
Are all of the USB devices you tried non-Apple?
Since your keyboard seems to work, try resetting the PRAM and SMU (I cannot link to the specific knowledge base article re: SMU as your profile gives no indiction what Mac model you have).

By the by, since none of us have seen a similar problem, all of us are trying to troubleshoot YOUR problem from long range. It is unhelpful to blame Apple for something that is localized to your system. It is also way out of line to tell an experienced (volunteer) poster to +"Keep their trap shut."+ Your attitude will have you asking questions of yourself since no one here will bother to help you if you display that kind of hostile behavior.

  • Trackpad or mouse won't click

Hi everyone, I've got a weird problem here.
All of a sudden, after waking it from sleep, the trackpad on a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook, running 10.7.5 (as high as it will go), won't click.
I heard that this can happen when a Bluetooth mouse is connected and somehow being pressed down, so just in case, I shut Bluetooth off. Still nothing.
I connected a USB ump use, just like the Trackpad, I can use the mouse to move the cursor around, but it won't let me click on anything.
However, using my iPhone and Screens, I can connect to my MacBook and I can click using that device, but it's totally useless for long term use.
I've restarted, booted in single-user mode, did some basic repairs, booted in safe mode, zapped the PRAM, nothing bring back the mouse or trackpad clicking.
    Does anyone have any idea?
    Hope you can help.

Oh and I don't know if this will give anyone a clue as to what's going on, but if I move the cursor over the Dock, the magnifying effect doesn't happen anymore and the apps' names don't appear.

  • Wireless mouse won't click

My wireless mouse has worked fine, until today.  It tracks fine, but won't click unless I press really hard in the middle. Left and right click are gone.  I checked the mouse preferences, and changed the batteries, and restarted both mouse and computer.  Any ideas?

I could be some debris built up in the leading edge of the mouse.  I've heard that sliding a Post it Note in the top crevice will clean it out nicely.

  • TS1365 Mouse won't click

My Macbook turns on and the mouse can move around but the mouse click does not work?? Any ideas to fix this?? Sometimes the icons on the bottom don't enlarge when I run my mouse over them and the top left stuff works although slowly and randomly but only using the return key and the mouse still won't click.

Thank you very much, Monkey Chow, I had this problem, and your aswer solved my question ! This was of great help ! I was already wondering about giving my my for repair. Of course the technician would have found a mac perfectly working!
    Many many thanks !

  • My mouse won't click unless i min. then maximise

When I go on firefox my mouse won't left click or right click on the page open but will work on the upper or lower task bar. But when i minimize it or max it works untill I want to click on the task bars, so then I have to min, max it again then it works till I change again. This is driving me nutts and I've changed my mouse but no different. I know this must be something simple. IT used to do it only in my profile but now it in all of ours on this computer.
    Can anyone help?

Strangely enough, plugging in a mouse that has a scroll wheel and clicking the scroll wheel/middle button seems to have, at least for now, fixed the problem!

  • My macbook mouse/touchpad has stopped working. After 5 minutes ,the mouse won't click and I have to shut down. What's wrong?

I have a white macbook, about 4 years old. Every time I use it, after five minutes, the mouse and touchpad stop working. You can still hear the click but it doesn't actually click anything on the screen, effectively freezing the computer. I have to just shut it down. What can i do about this?!? Thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • My mouse won't click!

I was using the numbers application and my mouse froze, not allowing me to click. When I tried force quitting, it required me to quit numbers first, which is nit possible without clicking. How can I get my mouse to work and unfreeze numbers??

On the keypad click command+option+esc keys together at the same time.
From the popup dialogue box select forcequit(use tab key to navigate).
    Click enter key.
Wait a while for the response.
    Best.

  • Mighty Mouse Won't Click?

I recently upgraded my mouse to the Mighty Mouse (wired) and have been enjoying it. However, once last week, and again just now, the mouse pretty much flakes out, and I can't click on anything. I can use it for switching applications via Expose, but once I left click on something, that document, window, application goes grey and I can't click on anything. I've ended up force quitting my aps and hard restarting. I have to use the keyboard to force quit, if I try to click on the quit button, the force quit grays out too.
I've read some of the posts about Mighty Mice (Mouses? Meece?) freaking out and expose toggling on and off, but I didn't read anything about them ceasing to work like this. Anyone else out there had this issue?
    Cheers,
    Scott

Ah! Sorry, I panicked and forgot to take the batteries out and plug them back in.
    That solved the problem.
    Thank you.

  • Curve 8530 - optical mouse won't click in the internet browser

The optical mouse works fine in everything, except in the internet browser.  I can still access links by putting the mouse over the link and hitting the "return" button on the keyboard, but I used to be able to click the optical mouse to access the links directly.  Now, when I click the optical mouse, it does not register.  Again, I don't think it's a hardware problem since it works fine in all the other functions.
    Thanks!

    Hello nooree5,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
In this case i would recommend wiping the BlackBerry smartphone. To do this we would need to back up the BlackBerry smartphone. Please open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and connect your BlackBerry smartphone. Click on the Backup and Restore button and select Back Up. Please note the location where the backup is being saved as we will need to access it later to restore the BlackBerry smartphone.
Once backed up please follow the link below to perform a security wipe of your BlackBerry smartphone.
    Link: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB14058
Test the BlackBerry smartphone and proceed with a selective restore as outlined below.

  • T61 Mouse won't click

I have a T61 laptop here with XP on it. Every so often the mouse will cease to function properly. The mouse can still move, but if you click on things nothign happens. You see the buttons depress and can even see the focus change, but nothing happens. It's not just one program where this happens, It's happened in Lotus Notes and IE for sure, but clarifying with user to be sure if everything or just those are affected.
    Any ideas at all?

I am having the same issues with an X60 and a T61 when I first boot up the mouse will move but it will not click on anything until I hit control alt delete then the mouse works ifne until the next rebiit, unfortunatly IBM was maddeningly unhelpful but if I find out a way to fix this I will post it

  • MS mouse won't click, moves slowly, Lion OSX

Hi everyone. Thanks for reading. The big boss has an iMac running Lion. She didn't like the Mac mouse, so we got her a low-end Microsoft 2-button mouse, which she likes.
A couple of weeks after we got the mouse, it became VERY slow and wouldn't click any more (physically, it was fine). I installed the latest MS drivers for Mac mouse, but that didn't help.
I switched from her login (which has admin rights) to the Administrator login, and had no problem with the mouse.
I did not install any updates before this problem started, and the machine is up to date with Apple updates.
It's strange this started to happen without changing any hardware or software.
And yes, she has to have a 2-button mouse. I can't get her to fall in love with the Apple mouse, as I have.
    Any help? THANK YOU.

Also, mouse preferences grayed out, even though she has admin rights.

  • Mouse won't stop scrolling player

Problem: Mouse won't stop scrolling player
    Adobe Flash Player 9 (9.0.115.0)
I double click a SWF file.
It comes up in Adobe Flash Player 9.
    I switch to another program.
I switch back to the Flash Player.
Just moving the mouse (without holding down the mouse) moves
    the player scroll.
I cannot turn mouse scrolling off so scrolling stops.
    Esc does not solve problem.
    I appreciate your feedback.

    tech78g:
I get what you're saying, but in the system preferences there are clearly options for
"Scroll direction: natural — Content tracks finger movement"
    and for
"Swipe between pages — Scroll left or right with one finger"
both indicating that if unchecked, there should be no scrolling or swiping with any finger movement. Yet mine continues doing both, with both unchecked.
It's not just annoying. It's interfering with my work.

  • Magic Mouse stopped right clicking right after 10.8.4 update

My computer just performed the latest update to OS 10.8.4 and now my "Magic Mouse" won't right click, even though right click says it's enabled.  Please help!

    Try deleting the .plist.
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/Library/Preferences.  Move the .plist to your desktop.
    Restart
If it works, delete the .plist on your desktop. If not, put it back.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.
