Mouse won't control click

Unless I hold down the control key. I switch left and right button and it still does not work.  Develpoer 3.2 Open office 3.3.1 on machine only changes except iTines 10.2.2

Welcome to the Discussions Headdragon,
Are you using an Apple mouse?
Third party mice, like the Microsoft one I used to use for gaming, require you to install their own software first. They normally add another control panel to System Preferences. You then use this to set the function of your right (or other) buttons.

  • Mouse won't double click

I recently upgraded to CS6. Ever since, my mouse has lost it's ability to double-click. Anyone have a clue? I have not changed my mouse settings. I also unplugged the mouse and tried my bluetooth mouse. No change. All the mice won't double-click.

Read on another forum that slowing down the mouse click speed may help. Set the speed even lower than the default AND IT WORKED! Yea!

  • Magic Mouse won't right click on files, but works fine otherwise. 10.6.8

My Magic mouse just suddenly seemd to stop right clicking on files. I can right click on blank sapces in finder or on the desktop and it gives me the usual drop down menu but as soon as I try and right click or ctrl+click on a file there's just nothing. Can't seem to find any similar problems on google. Any ideas?

Hi, yes. The right click would work at start-up until I click on 'always allow' for permissions for google drive, then it dissappears
Unfortunately I found no other workaround other than to switch to the other views (although I strongly dislike working in the other views). But I just use Drive in my internet browser when I do use it, so it's okay for me to uninstall it. Maybe it's something to contact google about so they can fix it on there side.

  • My Magic Mouse won't double click

I cannot double click with my new magic mouse (or older wired logitech mouse) to open anything, whether it be in finder, the desktop, iTunes etc...
I'm sure that it isn't the fault of the iMac as there has been no update or change of settings.

    Hello:
    No apology necessary
    PRAM=parameter random access memory.
You reset it like this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11243
A reset sometimes helps and it cannot hurt anything.

  • Mouse won't right click

I've just bought an apple mouse, and although I've gone into preferences and set the right hand side as 'secondary button', it does not right click. Can anyone help out? I'm using it with a MacBook Pro with OSX Mavericks 10.9.4.
    Thanks!

Oops - never mind. I restarted and now it works fine.

  • Mouse won't left click or right click

Mighty Mouse (wired) has stopped recognising left click and right click. All clicks on the mouse are interpreted as a click on the scroll wheel ("centre click") which brings up Dashboard and prevents normal use of the mouse. Is there a way to fix this, or is the mouse dead?
I have unplugged the mouse a few times, but no change. The side buttons still work and the scroll wheel still operates normally, just no left or right click. My spare mouse is an older style (from a G4) so can't access the relevant preferences to re-map how the Might Mouse should operate (eg, to change centre click to operate the normal left click function). Any suggestions? It's still under warranty and has already been replaced once for a different problem.

    You could try cleaning it:
Use a clean lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water. Wipe the ball and the surrounding area, making sure to rotate the ball itself to ensure complete coverage. If the scrolling feels rough or if the scroll ball isn't scrolling up, down, or side-to-side, hold the mouse upside-down and roll the ball vigorously while cleaning it to help dislodge any particles that may have collected on the internal hardware.
Let us know if this helps,

  • Mouse won't point/click do gestures since Lion OSX update!

I bought the new LION X and installed it on my iMac last night and now my WIRELESS MOUSE will not work to it's fullest functions: SCROLLING
left - right up - down. I called the dummies over at support and since all they do is read from a script they typically do not provide the best
information which is appalling. They said I could take it in to Genuis Bar and switch out, but when i got to the Apple store the mouse in question
worked fine w/their devices, it also worked fined when creating a new user and using it through there but it will not work in my main account! ***?!
So I called Support again and they have me on hold but apparently they don't know what they issue it. Come on Apple!

BINGO! I found the issue out ON MY OWN though i seriously wish i had come here sooner to get the information.
I went through 2 different support agents w/the last one sending me over to a SENIOR tech agent (which is english for REAL TECH AGENT) and was on hold for 20 min and found the solution by coming here!
System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad tab > Mouse Options.. button > check scrolling.
talk about paying something for nothing! I made a trip to the store for no reason and spent all day trying to get this to work, why don't they have real support people instead of these people looking for the resolution inside book help, clearly their books don't provide basic information enough to trouble shoot customers issues!

  • My mouse won't click unless i min. then maximise

When I go on firefox my mouse won't left click or right click on the page open but will work on the upper or lower task bar. But when i minimize it or max it works untill I want to click on the task bars, so then I have to min, max it again then it works till I change again. This is driving me nutts and I've changed my mouse but no different. I know this must be something simple. IT used to do it only in my profile but now it in all of ours on this computer.
    Can anyone help?

Strangely enough, plugging in a mouse that has a scroll wheel and clicking the scroll wheel/middle button seems to have, at least for now, fixed the problem!

  • Pro mouse - control clicking

Recently upgraded to Leopard and 10.5.2 and I just noticed that I can control-click to copy text as usual but control-click to paste is a bit different. I can control-click-paste into forms & text areas such as in Safari, and into the body of a new mail note in Apple Mail, but cannot control-click-paste into areas such as the "To", "cc", "Bcc" in Mail; into text areas of dashboard widgets, and some other locations.
There doesn't seem to be a place to tweak this in the System Preferences, any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hi, ojnab -
A couple of other things to consider or try -
    • According to Apple KBase Article #58649 - Apple Pro Keyboard: Devices Connected, the keyboard won't handle passing much power through. Try connecting the mouse to a USB port other than one on the keyboard.
    • The Apple Pro mouses had a defect - the wires inside the cable can fray at the point the cable leaves the mouse body, causing random open and/or short circuits in the USB bus. One test for that is to use a different, known-good mouse - after restarting with that replacement in use, if the problem disappears the fault is probably with the original mouse.

  • Mouse won't click!

This is driving me crazy. I have a wireless bluetooth mouse made by Rocketfish. It won't left-click, but the right-click works for some things. To me it seems like the right-click has taken some of the functions that the left-click used to do. I can select menu items, but I can not click any buttons. So here is the situation.
From the login screen I can r/c and select my profile.
Type in my password and hit enter. That gets me into the desktop.
Immediately I get a message telling me about my computer haveing been restarted after an unexpected shutdown and a iCal notification about an appointment last week. I can't do anything with either of these windows. They don't seem to function like normal windows, so close all doesn't work. The only way to close them is to click the button in the window which I can't do.
So now I am trying to reset the mouse or look at help topics using the combination of the mouse and keyboard, but any window that pops up is hidden by these other two windows, and I can't see what I need to see. Nor can I click on any of the options.
I've changed the mouse with a USB mouse, and even used the mouse off my PC. All do the same.
I tried booting in safe mose, but that didn't fix the problem.
I read somewhere about booting from the disk, but I don't know how to do that. Also someone suggested restarting the disk utilities or something. When I tried that, I got to the point where I needed to click the button and could go no farther.
I have a sneaking suspicion my 11 year old was playing with something she shouldn't have like the universal access stuff, but she won't admit it and I don't know how to fix it.
I'm an old PC user, so if you guys have an idea how to fix it, please be gentle with the mac-lingo. Also keep in mind I can't click on anything, so keyboard shortcuts are a must.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hello again:
While you are asking people +"did you read"+ - did you read my post about an archive and install?
Are all of the USB devices you tried non-Apple?
Since your keyboard seems to work, try resetting the PRAM and SMU (I cannot link to the specific knowledge base article re: SMU as your profile gives no indiction what Mac model you have).

By the by, since none of us have seen a similar problem, all of us are trying to troubleshoot YOUR problem from long range. It is unhelpful to blame Apple for something that is localized to your system. It is also way out of line to tell an experienced (volunteer) poster to +"Keep their trap shut."+ Your attitude will have you asking questions of yourself since no one here will bother to help you if you display that kind of hostile behavior.

  • Contextual menu won't come up with control click

I have a user with a one button mouse who can't bring up a contextual menu with control click any longer. When you control click, you get a new finder window or sometimes it brings up Fontbook instead of a contextual window!
it happens no matter who logs into machine. I have tried, thus far, repairing permissions and trashing the finder.plist under this one user. No effect.
I could not find anything when doing a search on the Knowledge Base, so am posting here. Has anyone seen this behavior in 10.4 yet?
    Thanks,
    Lisa

Try removing the items in these folders:
    "/Users/username/Library/Contextual Menu Items"
    "/Library/Contextual Menu Items"
Log out/in or restart, if things return to normal you can then start putting items back one at a time until you find the offending item. One common bad actor is a contextual menu item from StuffIt.

  • My Mac wireless keyboard and mouse won't reconnect

My Mac wireless keyboard and and mouse one day disconnected and I can't  reconnect. They have new batteries.

    Hi Saint Anne,
Happy Thanksgiving Day!  Since both of your wireless input devices are not working at the moment, do you have a wired mouse you can use to straighten this out?  Here are some troubleshooting steps to try:
    Wireless Connection issue
Make sure Bluetooth is turned on
First, choose Apple () menu > System Preferences > Bluetooth and confirm that Bluetooth is turned ON.
The Bluetooth menu bar icon should turn:
Black if Bluetooth is turned ON and no devices are connected.
Light grey with three dots if Bluetooth is ON and at least one wireless device is connected.
Light grey (or disappear completely) if Bluetooth is turned OFF, or if the iMac is unable to communicate with the Bluetooth module.
Refer to the Bluetooth Menu Icon table below for more information on determining the Bluetooth status. If the Bluetooth icon does not appear, or if the menu bar status continues to indicate that Bluetooth is off, restart your computer and then attempt to turn Bluetooth ON again.
    Bluetooth OFF
Bluetooth ON and connected to wireless device
    Bluetooth menu icon
    Bluetooth status
Bluetooth turned on, but there are no devices connected to the Mac. See the "Make sure the wireless mouse or keyboard is turned on" section of this article.
Bluetooth turned on and at least one wireless device is connected.  See the "Make sure the wireless mouse or keyboard is turned on" section of this article.
When this icon flashes, at least one wireless device has a low battery. Click the Bluetooth icon to identify the affected device, then replace the batteries.
Bluetooth is off. Click the Bluetooth icon using a USB mouse and select "Turn Bluetooth On". Note: Mac OS X won’t allow Bluetooth to be turned off unless a USB mouse is connected.
Bluetooth offline. Restart your Mac. If the Bluetooth status doesn’t change, disconnect all USB devices and restart your Mac again.
Make sure the wireless mouse and keyboard are turned on.
    Mouse
Slide the On/Off switch on the bottom of your mouse to turn it on. Note: If the battery compartment cover is not installed properly the On/Off switch may not function correctly or may be difficult to operate. Remove the battery compartment cover and carefully reinstall it.
When your mouse is on and paired, and the batteries are charged, the indicator light glows steadily.
If your mouse isn’t paired with a Mac, the indicator light will blink, indicating your mouse is in discovery mode and ready to pair.
If the indicator light doesn't illuminate, check to make sure you have two good batteries and that they're installed correctly.
    Keyboard
Push and release the On/Off switch to turn on the Apple Wireless Keyboard.
When your keyboard is on and paired, and the batteries are charged, the light will glow steadily for several seconds, then turn off.
If your wireless keyboard isn’t paired with your Mac, the indicator light will begin to blink. This indicates your keyboard is in discovery mode and ready to pair with your Mac.
If the LED doesn't light up, remove the batteries to make sure they're good and that they're installed correctly.
    Check preferences
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences, then choose Bluetooth from the View menu. The Bluetooth preferences pane will list the Bluetooth devices paired with the computer, the status of the devices (paired or connected), and whether Bluetooth power is on or not.
Click the gear icon and choose "Connect" to connect a device that is powered on.
To set up a new device, click the + icon and follow the Bluetooth setup assistant.
If the Mouse System Preferences pane is open and no wired or wireless mouse is connected, your Mac will immediately start looking for a wireless mouse (with Mac OS X v10.6.  For Mac OS X v10.5, the Setup Assistant should open).
Keyboard or mouse intermittently stops responding
    Click the mouse
Click the mouse once to reconnect it with your Mac. It may take a moment for the mouse to respond.
Check the battery level of the mouse. Choose System Preferences from the Apple (), then choose Mouse from the View menu. The battery level indicator is in the lower-left corner. Replace the batteries if they are low.  Note: Choose Keyboard & Mouse from the View menu with Mac OS X v10.5.  For more information on keyboard and mouse battery levels in Mac OS X v10.5, see Desktop computers: Troubleshooting wireless keyboard and mouse issues.
Press a key on the keyboard
Press a key on the keyboard to reconnect it with your Mac. It may take a moment for the keyboard to respond.
Check the battery level of the keyboard. Choose System Preferences from the Apple (),  then choose Keyboard from the View menu and select the Keyboard tab. The battery level indicator is in the lower-left corner. Replace the batteries if they are low.
    Check for signal interference
Wireless networks that operate on 2.4GHz may cause interference.
Move cordless phone base stations, microwave ovens, and other 2.4GHz electrical devices away from the Mac if you suspect interference.
Keep wireless devices within 10 meters (33 feet) of the Mac.
Avoid putting metal objects between the device and the Mac.
Mouse doesn't scroll up or down or side to side
For mice that have a scroll ball, refer to How to clean your Mighty Mouse.
Check the Scrolling speed slide-control at the top, and make sure the “Scroll” checkbox is checked.
For scrolling side-to-side, make sure the application you’re using supports side-to-side scrolling.
Remember, scrolling is done with one finger, and navigating is done by swiping side-to-side with two fingers.
Navigating moves from page to page in a document or internet browser unlike scrolling.
Mouse does not track as expected (jittery, jumpy, slow, fast).
The Apple Wireless Mouse can be used on most smooth surfaces, however if tracking issues occur try these options:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu, then choose Mouse from the View menu. Set the Tracking slider to adjust how fast the pointer moves as you move the mouse.
Try using a different surface to see if the tracking improves.
Turn the mouse over and inspect the sensor window. Use compressed air to gently clean the sensor window if dust or debris is present.
If multiple Bluetooth wireless devices are in use nearby, try turning them off one at a time to see if the issue improves. Bandwidth intensive devices could affect tracking.
Mouse buttons do not work as expected.
The Mouse preference pane allows users to customize the mouse features to meet their needs.
Keyboard has one or more keys that do not respond.
Use the Keyboard Viewer to test whether the keyboard keys are responding correctly when they are pressed.
Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu, then choose Language & Textfrom the View menu (or International from the View menu in Mac OS X v10.5 or earlier).
    Select Input Sources.
Select the Keyboard & Character Viewer checkbox.
Enable the input source for the keyboard layout you are testing by selecting the checkbox next to it.
Make sure that "Show Input menu in menu bar" is enabled.
Choose Show Keyboard Viewer from the Input menu in the menu bar, as shown.
The Keyboard Viewer shows the keyboard layout.
Type the key on the keyboard that doesn’t respond and observe whether the corresponding key highlights on the Keyboard Viewer. If it does, that particular key is functioning correctly. In the sample shown above the shift and command keys are being pressed.
If the mouse keys feature in the Universal Access System Preferences pane is enabled, many of the keyboard keys may not respond as expected.
Try starting up into single user mode to determine whether a software issue is causing the issue.
    Cheers,
    Judy
