Mousepad issues.

First off, I really love this computer, even after spending hours getting used to Windows 8. There's only one issue: the mouse touch pad. Since the day I bought it, the touch pad has lagged a bit, even freezing up and being unresponsive for a moment or two. Sometimes it disappears all together, sometimes it just sits there unresponsive. Sometimes it begins moving again, or appears again on screen, or I have to manually restart my laptop. This is becoming more frequent and really beginning to become an issue while I'm doing school work.

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
The issue may -- or may not -- be the mousepad settings.
Depending on your particular MousePad setup, the following may be more or less useful -- not all MousePads have the same setups or the same level of flexibility when it comes to what they can do.
For example, on a high-performance system, MousePad might be a Super-Mouse and do all sorts of cool stuff.  On a Normal Notebook, Mouse might be more of an Accountant-Mouse:  good Mouse but not Super-Mouse with a Cape.
So, take a look and see if there is something you can do with the settings on your MousePad:
Using and Configuring the ClickPad
Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad (Windows 8)

Commentary
According to the standard Specification Sheet for this notebook,  the system is only carrying 4GB memory.  That is "enough", but not an abundance of RAM.   The wireless, network, disk, and the processor are adequate.  If you put any strain on the system, it is going to respond to that stress and slow down.
This means you might want to conserve your resources when you use the computer to get the most from it.
There are some things you can do to help your computer perform better for you.
Windows 8.1 -- really starting with Windows 8 -- has this wonderful new Start Screen environment where everything you ever wanted at your fingertips is "right there" in bright, shiny, blinking Tiles.  The trouble with bright, shiny, blinking Tiles is that they use memory to keep them "active".  Active Tiles drain your computer of resources that you could be hoarding for other purposes.
Take a look at your Start Screen:
If you have "active" Tiles on the Screen that you can live without:  Right-Click >  Turn Live Tile Off
You can save resources on your Desktop by using a Plain background instead of a fancy backdrop.  That means if you are using your favorite photographs as a background, you might reconsider and save your photo gazing for your iPad.  Change the background to plain, boring, yukky, gray.
You can also try this or perhaps a "custom" setting where you select "some of the settings"
Windows key + y (Opens the System) >
Advanced System Settings > Tab Advanced >
Under Performance > Settings
CHECK "Adjust for best performance"> OK
==========================================================
If the system slows down at odd times, it may be slowing down because there is a program running that is dragging on the system.  You can take a look at the system and see what it is doing and which programs are running.
Sometime perfectly innocent programs can "run amuck" and hang up -- Internet Explorer might be hung up on a Web Page, your email might get stuck,  Word  might take a nose dive.  The Task Manager and the Resource Monitor can track what is actually happening and how much memory and resource is being used.
How to Use the New Task Manager in Windows 8
NOTE:
Task Manager > Tab Performance > scroll to bottom of screen > Click to Open Resource Monitor

  • HP Probook 430 mousepad issue

I'm having issues with the mousepad with several Probook 430. What happens is that after å while the mousepad gets choppy in the vertical direction. If i go in to the synaptics driver and reset, the problem disapears for a while. It also disapears while i hold down one of the mouse keys.
I have tried to update mouse driver and bios without luck. I've been in contact with HP support, they have changed motherboard and mousepad on one of the computers, but the issue still remains.

OK, found some kind of solution:
in battery & power saving settings there is setting for CPU maximum state. If set on 70%, then I got desirable frequencies.

  • Mousepad Issues on Macbook Pro

I have a Macbook Pro with the latest OS LION 10.7.3
The problem is with my mousepad. Sometimes the mousepad hangs on to certain elements on the screen and highlights things unnecessarily, and will also not be responsive. It also has trouble scrolling up and down the page, it will bring up the menu instead. All in all this is a recent issue. I'm thinking the mousepad is getting older, but if anyone has a suggestion, please let me know, because its extremely iratating to work with.
    Thanks,

I just signed up for the Photoshop / Lightroom monthly subscription... and downloaded the Adobe desktop app for both my desktop and laptop Mac machines.  All went smoothly but I also am having issue that it is not recognizing that I have paid for usage.  It asked if I wanted the trial, and as I had work needing to be completed I did accept that as a last resort so I could complete it.  But, now that I have had time to go back and investigate... I have checked my account, re-downloaded everything and still is not working under subscription.  What a waste of a month!  Yeah, it is only $10 but hey... I expected more.
The reason for my monthly purchase was because I had purchased Adobe Element 10 through the APP store several years ago and with clearing and rebuilding my computers it will not let me download the app that I paid for originally be cause now there is a new version... I was perfectly happy with the version I had for my needs which are less than high quality photo processing.  I feel like I am caught in a money grab.

  • Powerbook G4 rebuild mousepad issue

I have just stripped down and replaced a HDD in a PBook G4. I work on PCs, (notebooks especially) all the time. I have previously replaced the LCD in this machine for the same client. This time I have come up with some fascinating problems.
The mousepad works at a CD-Boot level, but once the OSX (10.2) is installed - it doesn't work. Any USB mouse works fast and fine. No mousepad! So, when installing OSX from the DVD-ROM it is fine. Anyone know how to get the driver on this to make it work?
I have an upgrade disk set for OS-X 10.3 for this machine. It get to the white screen with the Apple in the center and then the apple splits in two and it hangs! No kidding!
Often it will boot up, but just as often and just as frustrating, it will halt at the "Starting Directory Services" point. I have reinstalled OSX 3 times, so I know I qualify for Extreme Patience and Persistence Award.
Any help on these three little issues would be appreciated.

Did you try resetting the PMU?

I am facing issues with my HP Probook mouse pad. The cursor freezed, shows scroller next to the cursor, moves to the opposite direction or underised direction. Please suggest if this is a hardware issue and ways to fix this issue asap. I had to struggle a lot when writing this post using the same laptop. Thank you.

Nevermind.. i somehow fixed the issue by choosing normal startup under msconfig... man that was weird ...

  • MSI GE70 Keyboard/Mousepad issue

Ok, So for example when i'm playing a game if I want to move using the 'WASD' Keys its fine, but as soon as I use the mousepad to direct where I'm going, the mousepad does nothing. It just freezes and works intermittently as I release keys and press different ones. Is this a simple fix or something more? I have done a quick search of the forums and found nothing! Cheers in advance!

Touchpad doesn't work very well with FPS games.  Use a mouse.

  • Spacebar Plus Move Not Working

I can hold the spacebar, and the hand tool comes up, but then can't move around when using my mousepad. I've noticed this problem in GIMP as well. Not sure what the issue is.

    Jaden,
Will it work with a mouse? There have been reports of similar mousepad issues.

  • GS60 - Mousepad freezing/crashing and hard drive clicking issue

    Hello all!
I'm going to try to put in as much detail as possible, hopefully some kind person here will know what I can do to troubleshoot these issues
I bought an MSI GS60 2PC Ghost notebook a month or two ago and I've been noticing some strange issues.
Occasionally during use, my mousepad will freeze for around 2 seconds and then start back up. What i mean by this is that i'll be swiping my finger and then the cursor will just stop moving for 2 seconds mid-swipe. This seems to happen fairly randomly multiple times a day.
The most annoying part is that the first time it happens after a fresh restart, the mouse seems to lose precision. Meaning that after the first freeze, if i do a quick swipe and stop, the cursor will lag behind a bit and fully stop movement noticeably after I stop moving my finger. It happened while I typed this.
    >"REINSTALL YOUR MOUSEPAD DRIVER"
I did, it started happening again. Here's the thing. If I'm also playing music while using the laptop and mousepad, any music I'm playing will temporarily also slow down/ get distorted during that 2 second freeze.
Eventually, the mousepad will just crash altogether and I'll have to restart to get it to work again.
    >"ARE YOU SURE YOU'RE NOT HITING THE MACRO TO DISABLE THE MOUSEPAD"
I'm sure. The music issue leads me to think it might be something else, not the mousepad driver. Although I should note this doesn't happen if i connect a USB mouse and use that instead.
I'm also hearing a weird clicking noise every so often. It seems to come from the bottom right hand side of the laptop when facing the keyboard top-down. Like, to the right of the mousepad. Could it be the HDD? It doesn't really bother me too much but it's pretty loud and people in class will often turn around thinking i'm taking a picture of them. It just happened as I typed this as well.
I've tried recording these things but they never happen with the camera rolling.
Anyone have any ideas? I'll shower you with free Steam games if the help you provide ends up fixing the problem.
    Thanks in advance

Turn on the task manager and check if the CPU or HDD is having a high usage while the cursor freeze happens.
    Try this:
Go to Control Panel> Hardware and Sound> Power options> change plan settings(choose the one you're using)> Change advance power settings> Processor power management> set 98%, 99% of on both on battery and plugged in.
Clicking sound for HDD is normal if the read and write head is working.
You can run the HD Tune's s.m.a.r.t test and see if there is anything wrong with the HDD, if not, then I think you don't really need to worry about the sound.

  • Mousepad and keyboard issues

While working online, my keyboard and mouse pad stopped functioning.  He computer seemed to be working, but I cannot work the mouse or keyboard.  Is there a reset for a frozen keyboard?

    Ok.
Reset the SMC (for MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models with internal batteries):
    1. shut down the MAC
    2. Plug in the MacSafe adapter (i.e.power cord/charger)
    3. PRESS AND HOLD SHIFT+CONTROL+OPTION+POWER buttons at the same time
    4. Release all keys and buttons simultaneously
    5. press the power button to turn on your mac as usual

  • Issues with my Satellite L500

hi everyone, i currently have a toshiba satellite L500, running windows 7, 3 gb ram 350gb hdd..
it was running fine until a fortnight ago, when my computor kept popping up message in the far bottom right hand corner saying windows error, critical error, youre hdd is missing, missing RAM etc etc, a window popped up telling me to do a system scan which i did and it came up with all these very bad errors.. it them popped up a program calle dmemory optimizer and told me to scan and do a defrag.. which i did.. and then teh next thingi knew, the hdd had disapeared from my computor, i couldnt access anything on the desktop, but could tab between the pages i already had open. then teh whole thing crashed.
i did a recovery on my own, and the error appeared to be fixed.. but then would only work properly in safe mode. so i took it to a repairer who charged me $188, reformatt teh whole drive, put on a copy of kapersky and office full version..
the day after getting it home, i noticed when i was typing things, the cursor would move about the page on its own, and id end up typing in the middle of what id already typed, sooo frustrating!! so the tech man suggested i download a program called touchfreeze.. and it fixed it..
now the last day or two, ill be in the middle of working on my laptop and it will just go to a black screen.. and it will resume when i press the mousepad, or it will completely turn off and go into sleep mode..
theres no settings on for sleep or hybernate, so sort of screen saver nothing.. and like i said, it happens when the laptos in use, about every 15 mins and happens several times.. any idea on what could eb the issue??
i could swear there were other issues with my laptop and he just said it was a virus..

Hey man you bomb us with all these issues and your last issue is pretty confusing.
Before we start discussion tell me one: do you use Toshiba recovery image (original operating system you got with your notebook)?

  • Mousepad not responding Pavilion dm4

Yesterday evening I woke my computer up only to find that my mousepad no longer worked. I figured it was some glitch like the many others I have found already on this laptop (Sound buttons not wanting to work correctly, mute led light not wanting to come on, etc.) And was hoping to restart and fix the problem. Today, after restarting, my mouse pad still does not work and I, apparently, am not the only one having this problem.
    My Specs:
    HP Pavilion dm4-2070us
    Windows 7 Home Prem OA
I have tried updating the driver (It said that the version that was linked to was the exact same as on my harddrive) and I have also tried updating BIOS with the same result. The mousepad IS NOT turned off. If it is the light no longer works on it as well and it is stuck in off mode. The mousepad is not showing up in control panel no matter what I do.
I'm getting tired of all the problems I have had so far out of this laptop since I've only had it since the middle of August. My friend told  me that HP was much better than Dell so I went with her instead what my gut told me. I had been bragging to everyone how wonderful this computer was but now I feel like I should go back and apologize to all my friends. Please say this is an easy fix and I'm overlooking something quite obvious. I'd hate to completely turn my back on HP for a stupid laptop.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

As of right now I have resolved the issue. If anyone has a problem similar to mine, before you send it in, maybe you can try what I did. Last night I let my computer die completely then took the battery out for a few seconds. After that I plugged it in and let it charge a bit (Maybe 30 minutes?) before trying to start it up and try the mousepad again. It's working just fine now, the scoll and zoom in/out even seem to work a bit better now.

  • T410 Screen/graphics issue

    Hi!
My T410 has begun acting up a bit. The screen turns itself off after approx. 10 minutes of inactivity, even if my settings have been set to wait longer. This also occurs while viewing movies/shows in VLC, which is highly annoying (having to tap the mousepad every so often. Any tips on how to make it go away?
    What I've tried:
    - Reinstalling power manager
    - Installed newest nVidia Verde drivers
    - Updating BIOS
    - Checking settings in Windows power manager as well as the ThinkVantage Power Manager
OS is Windows 7 Professional (the issue is not there in Linux (Ubuntu 11.04)).
Any advice appreciated - the issue also occurs when playing games etc., and the screen often flashes several times before "waking up" again.
    Thanks!

    hey Flim,
since you mentioned Ubuntu 11.04 , did this issue occur before you made your unit into a dual boot or did it happen after your T410 became a dual boot unit ?
currently the bios for your unit is at v1.38 ?
try uninstalling the power manager completely as well as the nvidia drivers and let windows install its generic video driver.

  • Mouse clicking issues

For the last 2 weeks or so I all of a sudden have mouse clicking issues on a 2009 iMac. The mouse (I have tried 3 different ones from apple and Logitech) seem to be able to open files etc. on a click. I have to click repeatedly to get it done. When I run the disc utility it mostly goes away. Now, I run the disc repair every morning to make it go away. Annoying. I have seen other people having similar issues - it sounds like a OS issue????

This same scenario has happened to me sporadically over the past few months and seems to be increasing. I have the Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse for Notebooks. Got it 3 years ago for use with my G4 PowerBook (1.5 GHz, 2 GB RAM, OS 10.4.8). First I thought it was the batteries, but then realized that if I'd just wait a few minutes the problem would usually go away. Nothing new electrical on my desk that would cause it. Gets really annoying. The mouse becomes sluggish and the clicks are non responsive (a right click will open a sub-menu window, but then no other clicks work. Trying to move the mouse around on the screen gives spotty results - stops and starts - as if I'm moving it on a reflective surface. After multiple clicks the window goes away. I can disconnect the USB transmitter and have complete control with the mousepad.
Sometimes the problem won't occur all day long. Other times it comes and goes multiple times during an hour. A restart will usually get it out of that overly annoying loop.
I bought a new Logitech Mouse a few days ago, thinking mine was wearing out, but the same thing happened within minutes.
I can only think there's some conflict with an OSX update. VERY frustrating. I don't want to go back to a wired mouse.
So I, too, am eager for a solution.
    Thanks,

  • S12 Windows 7 - Mouse scroll issues and tapping won't stop.

I recently purchased an S12 Ideapad for my girlfriend for her studies and installed Win7 in the process. It works perfectly aside from one tiny issue. We can't get it to stop left clicking when tapping the mousepad surface and the vertical scroll area on the rightside of the pad does nothing.
I've tried installing the official Lenovo drivers for Win7 as Administrator / Then with Vista Compatabillity and then finally using the generic Synaptics drivers - but no luck, the options just doesn't appear in the Synaptics configuration menu of the mouse. All I can change are the functions of left click and right click. My old MEDION laptop has all the functions I am looking for in that same menu.
Has anyone else experienced this and/or know of a solution to this annoyance?

  • Where can I get a 3rd party mouse pad for my HP Pavilion dv6 - left mousepad button broken again!

Broken AGAIN and just out of warranty.  I had this replaced at 9 months and now it's broken again (at 15 mths) with light/moderate usage.  I've seen lots of posts about this issue both on and off the HP forum.  Please can you tell me where I can get a replacement mousepad that I can install myself.

The touchpad is part of the whole top cover so it is going to require a significant disassembly. The above is likely not your correct part either, but the top cover for all dv6's ought to be available on ebay for $50-80. Here is the Service Manual:
