Moutain lion from new MBA on Desktop mac.

Hello. I just buy a MBA with moutain lion, can i install it on my mac mini (lion) ? thx

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
On the other Mac, go to App Store > Purchases. If Mountain Lion is there, download Mountain Lion into the Mac, but if it's not, purchase it

Just check in with this link when ML is released for instructions on how to claim your upgrade.

can i synch addresses from icloud to my desktop mac?

Sure, just set up iCloud on your Mac. All you need is Lion or Mountain Lion on your Mac. see Apple's Document for setting up iCloud on your Mac: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html
I hope it helps and answers your question?

  • IMessage wont forward messages from new contacts to my Mac.

iMessage wont forward messages from new contacts to my Mac. New conversations started on my iPhone wont show up automatically on my Mac. What's the deal ?

    Hi,
    Do you mean sync ?
Forward is a specific action that can be done with iMessages on a phone.
Have your tried turning everything Off and then On Again ?
I say this as I updated to Mac OS X 10.8.2 first then iOS 6 on the devices I had.
On each iOS device there was a restart and at this point I was asked on my Mac to allow the Apple ID and iPhone Numbers to be allowed/added to Messages (I have two iPhones so I said no to one)

  • If I upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard on my Mac will MobileMe calendar and mail integrate with iCloud?

If I upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard on my Mac will MobileMe calendar and mail integrate with iCloud?

There is no Mobile Me anymore. It has been gone for several years, now. However, your existing calendar and mail will integrate with iCloud if you enable it on your system.

  • OS X Lion from new Air to old iMac?

I have recently purchased a MacBook Air with OS X Lion. Is it possible to duplicate OS X Lion to my existing iMac without paying? I use the exact same Apple Account for both so I would assume it should be possible somehow. Thanks

The new MBA comes with a different "build" of Lion which is presumably machine-specific. This is in accord with its software license - the license that you get  with a new computer is different from the App Store license, and doesn't provide for multiple installations.
From the OS X 10.7 Software License Agreement, which you can download from here:
    http://www.apple.com/legal/sla
    2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
    A. Standard and Preinstalled Apple Software License. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, unless you obtained the Apple Software from the Mac App Store or under a volume license, maintenance or other written agreement from Apple, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive license to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-branded computer at any one time. For example, these standard single-copy license terms apply to you if you obtained the Apple Software preinstalled on Apple- branded hardware.
    B. License from Mac App Store. If you obtained a license for the Apple Software
from the Mac App Store, then subject to the terms and conditions of this License and as permitted by the Mac App Store Usage Rules set forth in the App Store Terms and Conditions (http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/ww/) (“Usage Rules”), you are granted a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive license:
    to download, install, use and run for personal, non-commercial use, one (1) copy of the Apple Software directly on each Apple-branded computer running Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control;

  • How transfer a download OS X Lion from wife's to my Mac? Also, is this allowed?

How do I transfer and download OS X Lion from wife's Mac to my Mac? Also, is this allowed ( I believe one or more additional downloads are allowed in house?
Should I just spend the $30 and have my own OS?
    Thank you,
    Fletcher

If you and your wife are using the same App Store account, you should be able to re-download the Lion installer on your computer from the App Store.
No need to buy it again.

  • Migrated from MBP with moutain lion to new macbook pro retina display and now I have lion os

After migrating from a time machine backup and logging in (had problems with that too and had to restart user password) the os version is 10.7.4 when it should be 10.8.2
Went to the app store and I have to pay again to get the upgrade.. Do i have to pay again???
    Thanks!

    Hi again, Juan.
OK this is just a guess but I believe that when you set up your rMBP from your old MBP you used TM restore not Migration Assistant. What happened is that you installed your old system OS10.7.4 and all files.
Using Migration Assistant (MA) would not have overwritten your OS.
See this taken from Finder Help....
    Recover your entire system
If you use Time Machine to back up your computer, you can recover your system’s contents if your system or startup disk is damaged.
Important: Only use your Time Machine backup to restore your system to the computer that is the source of the backup. If you want to use your backup to transfer your information to a new computer, use Migration Assistant.
Transfer your info from a computer or disk
If you’re restoring your system because of a problem with your startup disk, repair or replace the disk before following these instructions.
Make sure your Time Machine backup disk is connected and turned on. If your backup disk is on a network, make sure your computer is on the same network.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
Select “Restore from a Time Machine Backup,” and then click Continue.
Depending on your type of backup disk, do one of the following:
If you use an external disk, select it and click Continue.
If you use a Time Capsule, choose your AirPort network from the AirPort menu on the right side of the menu bar, and then select your Time Capsule and click “Connect to Remote Disk.”
If you use a network disk, select it and click “Connect to Remote Disk.”
If necessary, enter the name and password you use to connect to your backup disk, and then click Connect.
Select the date and time of the backup you want to restore, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
After you restore your system from a Time Machine backup, Time Machine may perform a full backup at the next scheduled backup time. This is normal. Time Machine resumes incremental backups after the full backup is completed.
I suggest you make an appoint at the Genius Bar at a local Apple Store and they will help you restore your computer. Make sure you take in your old MBP and your Time Machine back up disk as well.
Do not use instructions above for a TM restore now, because it will only reinstall Lion 10.7.4 not ML 10.8.X.
You need to reinstall ML first and then I think all of your problems will go away.
So did I guess right? Did you launch TM and restore or did you launch Migration Assistant to move files?
Hope this helps, if you cannot get to the Apple Store, I can try to walk you through reinstalling ML, but first we need to download a copy of ML.

  • I just bought macbook air yesterday. Do I need to buy OS X Moutain Lion from App store?

Please becase I saw from app store there hv a osx lion. Do i need to buy it to my new macbook air?

If you bought a new MacBook Air, it probably has OS X Mountain Lion, but to check this, open  > About this Mac, and check the version. If it's 10.8, you are running Mountain Lion.
The Mid 2013 MacBook Air uses a special OS X Mountain Lion version compatible with this MacBook, so you can't use the Mountain Lion version you can purchase at the Mac App Store. Instead, when you need to reinstall Mac OS X, use OS X Recovery > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

  • Error -36 when trying to copy photos from new memory card to mac hd? HELP!! very important photos!

bought a new memory card, took 700+ photos, i can preview the videos (.mov) in finder and can see the thumbnail preview of the photos (.nef) but cannot open the photos larger in preview or copy any of the videos/photos to the hd. I can open the photos in photoshop directly from memory card but cant copy or move photos/videos from memory card to mac hd. (error -36 pops up..something about the file cant be read) please help!

I took the memory card back to best buy and the geek squad was able to help me fortunately by putting all of my pic files onto one of their PCs and then putting all my pics back onto a NEW memory card; then we plugged the new memory card into the computer and transferred the files seamlessly. Apparently there was some kind of issue with the way my memory card was formatted. I now put my new memory card into my camera, format it (very easily done with the in camera menu), and take a few test shots and transfer the pics to my computer before doing anything valuable with it. Thankfully all of my files were not damaged.
*BEWARE!! DO NOT FORMAT YOUR MEMORY CARD WHILE YOU HAVE PICS ON IT AS IT WILL CAUSE ALL PICS TO BE DELETED! IF YOU HAVE VALUABLE PICTURES TRANSFER THE ENTIRE DCIM FOLDER TO ANOTHER COMPUTER, THEN ERASE MEMORY CARD AND FORMAT IT, YOU THEN MAY BE ABLE TO PUT THE DCIM FOLDER BACK ON THE SAME MEMORY CARD AND USE IT SUCCESSFULLY. IF YOU STILL CANT USE THAT SAME MEMORY CARD YOU CAN TRY THE SAME PROCESS BUT AT THE END PUT THE FOLDER ONTO A NEW MEMORY CARD INSTEAD.
    Hope this helps someone =)

  • How to reinstall Lion from new MBP?

Hi guys. I just bought an Early 2011 MBP with OS X Lion pre-installed. I just want to ask how to reinstall Lion? Just in case I want to reinstall the OS. Thanks! If you could post different ways of doing it, the better.

OS X Lion includes a new feature called Lion Recovery that includes all of the tools you need to reinstall Lion, repair your disk, and even restore from a Time Machine backup without the need for optical discs.

  • Unable to install Moutain lion from Recovery Parition

    Hi Folks,
Well running into some issues with my iMac. (27" i5, 1TB drive)
Problem started when my two year old forced 2 CD's into the DVD bay. DVD was not happy and was making this horrible grinding noise.
Went to Apple store which is 3 Hours away, they told me they would have to keep it overnight as they needed to replace the DVD drive.
Since I was not staying overnight I decided to bring computer home and try to extract the disks myself and save myself $200 to replace the Superdrive.
Went onto YouTube and looked everything up on how to take the machine apart, pretty straight forward.
Took the iMac apart, got the DVD drive out and was able to extract the 2 CD's.
Put everything back together and started it up.
Mac started up as it usually does but was not getting WiFi connection, ran the diagnostic utility and it was still not working so decided to shut the machine down and restart.
Upon restart got the MAC logo and a Greg Status bar at the bottom, let it complete but after the status bar disappeared it just sat there and did nothing, restarted machine several times with same results.
Loaded the MAC from my recovery partition (Command R) Ran the Disk Utility, and did a Verify Disk on Macintosh HD, got an error "This disk needs to be repaired. Click Repair Disk "Ran Repair, went on for several minutes then got error "Disk utility can't repair this disk...disk, and restore your backup=up files"
Exited Disk Utility and selected Reinstall OS x from Utilities Menu.
Clicked on Continue, agreed to the license agreement then selected Macintosh HD but get a message "This disk is locked"
To make matters worst I guess I didn't correctly understand iCloud because I now get a sense the not all my photo's and music will be saved in iCloud, only the ones that I've purchased from apple and only the photoes taken from my photostream.....
Sort of a dead end here...not sure what to do next.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Reboot into the recovery mode, launch the Terminal app, copy & paste each one-liner into the window that pops up, and hit the return key. Quit the Terminal app and try reinstalling the OS.
    /usr/bin/chflags 0 /Volumes/*
    /bin/chmod a+rx /Volumes/*

How do i gift Mountain Lion?

    SarahMc91 wrote:
sorry, you cannot, but you can create dvd mountain lion install then gift it to person you want to gift.
This actually violates the OS X 10.8 License agreement, so, no, this can't be done.
I think the simplest thing will be for the OP to purchase a gift card to give to the person they want to give the software to and let them redeem it that way.

  • Does reinstalling OS X  Moutain Lion from the recovery disc erase anything else on the Macintosh HD?

I am having trouble playing QT movies since I installed QT 7 Pro. I wanted to see if I could reinstall 10.8 from the recovery disc to gain back any missing codecs> I don't see any ionformation on downloading QT codecs for QT Pro 7. Any help?

    Replying to your post title
When you restart into the Recovery HD and choose to Reinstall OS X, you're ONLY installing OS X on top of itself and NOT touching any 3rd party apps or data files. Of course, always do a back up prior to a reinstall for safety sake.
