.mov exif data problem - Time is off by hours

I have the same problem that SD_Christina posted 2010:
"I import my photos and videos taken on my iPhone using "Image Capture", then I sort them using Adobe Bridge CS5.
When I take a video (.mov file), the exif data shows the "Date Created" at 7 hours ahead of "Date File Modified". (ie: Date Created: 7pm, Date File Modified: 12pm)
The problem is - the correct time (that the quicktime movie was taken) is the "Date File Modified" time. So, if I should choose to rename that file...of course the "Date File Modified" time is changed.
Additionally, if I choose to rename all of my files (which I do) using the Date Created - the movies can be given the incorrect name. While sometimes this is not a problem (after all....12pm and 7pm ARE in the same day) if I create a video after 6pm, the "Date Created" ends up in tomorrow....follow?
Just about everything I've found on the internet says that videos don't have exif data....which is just silly....cause I'm looking at it and sorting my files by it...so....something is there!
On the other hand, if I could just CHANGE the exif data...I'd even be willing to do that...but I can't seem to find a MAC based exif changer for .mov files. "
With my iPhone 5 (iOS 7.1.2) the JPG times are always OK. But SOME MOV files have it +3hours off in my timezone.
I rename my JPGs and MOVs via Graphic Converter as YYYY-MMDD-hhmm-ss.mov according to their EXIF. Usually this works OK but I have to watch out those random MOV files that are +3hours off and rename them based on their creation date which is correct (that time might be the start/end of the clip while EXIF is the opposite but I digress...).
I have not yet seen any pattern or workflow that might cause the MOV EXIF to be incorrect. Anyone?
And is there a tool that can edit the EXIF and location data in MOV files? Graphic Converter can edit those only in JPGs. (The location data is sometimes incorrect in MOVs taken with my iPad mini whch lacks GPS and obviously didn't get correct location via the tethered iPhone -- I guess I should try to enable Bluetooth in both devices because that seems to give the location to the iPad(?).

Hi,
I'm having a similar problem, which I've been able to easily reproduce. It may be related, but I don't have a fix for it.
I live in Oslo, and just got back from a trip to Mumbai (which is 4.5 hours ahead of Oslo time). When I arrived in Mumbai, I used the Time Zone function on the phone to set the local time. When I got home, I imported photos and video into iPhoto and found that the photos I took on my phone in Mumbai showed the correct time and date, but the videos I took on the trip had a creation date listed in iPhoto that was equal to Oslo time (4.5 hours different from the photos) and not Mumbai time.
It almost seems like the camera app saves the photos based on the iPhones current Time Zone setting, but saves video with a creation date equal to the time zone the phone was originally set to.
I've been able to reproduce the bug a couple of times. The only fix I have for it is manually changing the time and date of the videos in iPhoto.
Could someone else try this out and see if they can reproduce the problem as well?

  • EXIF date and time data issues

I have several thousand images shot during the same trip, on two different cameras. The date and on one of the cameras was not correct. I corrected the date on the images using PhotoInfo 2.0.1
The problem is that Bridge CS3 is not recognizing the new date on all of the images. Most of the images show and can be sorted in Bridge by the new, correct date. However, any image that I altered in Bridge (rotated, cropped, opened in ACR, rated, etc...) prior to correcting the date in PhotoInfo is not showing the new, corrected date in Bridge.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
    Anyone know of a solution?
I have been struggling with this issue for quite a while so any input will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I have the exact same problem - corrected the EXIF date and time and still wrong sorting. The thing is that Bridge sorts the files by "Creation Date", the date and time you also see in the Finder. So I found an application that can change that, too. But still Bridge sorts the files in the wrong order! Displays the old time, too.
After several times of emptying the cache, sorting is now ALL messed up (without any kind of logic), I don't know how to fix it.

  • IMovie 9.0.8 "date and time" Title is 5 hours off original footage.

Since iMovie doesn't import the original Date and Time that the footage was recorded, I have been using the "date and time" Title feature, which in prior versions has worked well. Since updating to ML and iMovie 9.0.8, the time is off by approximately 5 hours. I can usually correct this by adjusting the date and time in the frame but it's an extra step I'd rather avoid. Has anyone else experienced this glitch? Is there a fix?

do, what I wrote: re-launch your Mac while holding down the shift-key

  • Can I move all data from time machine backup to another external drive & work from it?

Hi all, the harddrive on my macbook died (2nd time in a year) & I had a new one put in that's much smaller than the old one.  Can I move everything from my time machine backup onto a seperate external drive and work directly from that on my laptop/imac?  At the mo. I don't think time machine will recognise my computer as it's a new drive etc.  Thanks Jenny.

What exactly do you want to do?
Is it that you wish to extract an older version of some documents to edit, but leave the original intact?
You can Restore an older version from TM and choose not to replace the current one.
Or, do you wish to install the OS on your new drive, and migrate all the information from the TM backup to the new isntallation?
EDIT: Ok, re-reading your question, I think macjack probably has the right idea.
However, see Pondini's Time Machine FAQ # 16

  • I am looking for a timer that shows elapsed time since a particular date and time.  Showing days, hours, minutes etc.

I would like to download an application for my desktop and maybe even my iphone that will tell me how many days, hours, minutes, etc have elapsed since a particular date.
For example, my brother just had a baby and I want to put that date and time into the app and then determine how long it has been since that date and time.
Hopefully this makes sense, because I have not been able to locate anything.
    Thanks in advance,

    This is fantastic.  Thank you.
Is there any way to have something like this displayed on my desktop showing the time as it ticks away?

  • Date and Time is off by 3 days - on "Automatic".  Timezone is correct too..

Just today, my 3gs, started showing the wrong date/time. It's about 3 days behind.. so it's definitely not a "timezone" issue! There is no time on Earth that is that far back....that I am aware of anyway!
It's set to "automatic" in time properties. When set to manual, I can set the time just fine, but on automatic - it jumps right back to 3 days ago.
Time on my mac (sync computer) is fine.
Time on my friends iPhone is fine. (also same exact hardware, purchase date, sync computer, and 3G provider)

Correct, phone gets time from cell tower. It also really only does it on initial handshake after having no signal (there is also a specific type of tower hand off that can trigger it but not often).
Your friend may be on a different tower or could of gotten his time set at a different time on a different tower.
To force a time sync with a tower you can just turn airplane mode on then off. Even if you and he are in same spot doesn't mean you both will get the same tower when you reconnect so you really cannot even test that way. You can drive someplace else far enough away and toggle and see if time gets set right. There are random towers (or repeaters) out there that have failed to keep time correct or failed getting updated by the carrier.

  • How to move external hard drive (time machine) off airport extreme network?

For several years now, I've had an external hard drive connected to my airport extreme and it's servered as an awesome external back-up of my Macbook via Time Machine.  However, now I've had to remove the external hard drive from my network (that's a whole other story).  Anyway, when I connect the external hard drive to my MacBook, it doesn't recongize it as my Time Machine back-up. It is still looking for "My Book" on my network, which obviously doesn't exist anymore.  Can I simply re-direct it to "my book" that is now connected via USB to my computer?  Do I have to start over?  If possible, I'd like to keep the back-ups I already had and simply continue with my new back-ups.  Please advise!  Thanks!

First thing to do is go to the Pondini tips page, then follow the link to his full TM site for all the details.

  • Import QT movie....time code off

I created a sequence in FCP and exported as a image seqeunce, I then uprezzed in photozoom and then imported to a QT file(23:98) and then imported into a new FCP project....now my audio wont sync back.....any ideas?

    Hi 7493,
When you compress using Compressor, if you look in the Inspector window,
with the encoder tab selected, you will be able to manually set the start
    timecode.
HOWEVER, if you are having this transcribed you will need to start your
footage in the same place every time, so it might be best to trim the
start of your FCP sequence to your true start point to maintain consistancy.

  • From yesterday, I have been facing the problems in my iphone and my wife iphone. The same problem, "cannot connect to itunes store". I have strong internet connection. I tried all the possible way I could like setting, general, date and time.....etc.

I have proble of "cannot connect to itunes store. After I have updated the new software ios6, the problem arised in one of my mobile. In the second mobile, I didnot updated the software.Today in the morning, the problem ariesed in that mobile as well. I cannot open the itunes, don't have access to apple store . I tried to solve the problem like going to setting, general, Date and time, automatically off, keeping one year ahead date. I tried all the possible options I could get from the googel. How do I get rid of this problem?

No - I have not tried other routers on my network.
What I meant was I could use my itouch on other users wireless networks without any issues.
I'll update the routers DNS to try  using Google's 8.8.8.8 instead of my ISP.
Is the issue DNS performance using local ISP -or are there other possibel isues when using local isp DNS?

  • 'Date created' instead of EXIF date getting used for batch naming/folders?

I've noticed that Aperture is using the file creation date as opposed to EXIF date/time info when it imports my photos. Camera is a Nikon D200. Images are .NEF files.
If I allow Aperture to apply new master file names, based on Image Date - Image Time, it uses the Mac's file creation date (whenever the file was copied to the machine) as opposed to using the EXIF date and time.
I've already filed a bug with apple, but wanted to put it up here as well to see if others were having the same experiences.

    Hello,
I use exiftool to modify the  Creation and Modification time of the files. After that I use LR "Ajust time" feature to set the time of the movies in LR to the file creation time (last point). This works fine for me.
    For MOV (Quicktime):
    exiftool "-FileModifyDate<TrackCreateDate"  "-FileCreateDate<TrackCreateDate"
    For AVI:
    exiftool "-FileModifyDate<DateTimeOriginal"  "-FileCreateDate<DateTimeOriginal" *.avi
Depnding on your camera (and container format mov, avi) you may also ajust the time zone, e.g.
    exiftool -FileModifyDate+=1 -FileCreateDate+=1 -if "$CameraModelName =~ /EOS 600D/i" *.mov
Which time in the container (MOV, AVI) you use as source, depends on your workflow. I edit my mov files before import. Therfore "CreateDate" is the time when I edited the file. Quicktime and (some) avi file contain a time when the containing stream was created. I use this vaule as source.
exiftool <filename> gives you detailed information about all available times.
