Mov file is stuttering.... correct conversion?

Hi all,
I created a simple movie in iMovie which contains pictures, video and a voice over. After exporting the final movie, the .mov file now plays with continuous stuttering throughout the video. The audio is fine. I converted the video to an .m4v file and it was fixed. The problem is that the website I'm looking to export it to only accepts certain file types, and .m4v is not one of them. My preference is to get it into a functioning .mov file which doesn't lose the quality or bump up the file size to twice what it is. Simply stopping the stuttering would solve everything.
Thanks for your time!

So I just tried something which kind of worked.... I changed the export settings to Apple Intermediate Codec and it's working fine. The problem is that it's doubled the file size. Initially the file came out as an H264, which is my preference.
What's with the stuttering! Help!

  • Can't view .mov files in Organizer

    Hi
I am in the process of moving my video footage from iMovie (Mac) to a Windows 7 PC with Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements.
On my Mac I have converted the files to .mov with the 'photo jpeg' codec, which seems to be a fair compromise between size and quality. (Sadly, iMovie has converted all of it to Apple Intermediate Codec on import, which seems to be absolutely impossible to handle on a PC, so I have to do something, since I don't have the original files anymore ...)
On my PC, the files play nicely in QuickTime - they even played in Windows Media Player before I installed QuickTime. (However, I don't see thumbnails/miniatures of the files in Explorer.)
But ... when I import to Elements Organizer, I can neither play the files nor do I see any thumbnails. In stead, I get this error message:
'The selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the requiered compressor/decompressor (codec) installed'
Which I don't understand, since my system plays the files perfectly on itself.
If I try to add these files to a Premiere project, they do play back (but look awful), and I am able to export a clip (which looks OK).
But the whole point for me of using Photoshop/Premiere Elements was to organize my stills and video in the same application.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Regarding the quality in Premiere Elements, do the MOV files have the correct dimensions?
For example, you expect 1920x1080 but are actually getting 1620x1080. That can happen if you forgot to unlock the aspect ratio during conversion on the MAC. You type in 1920 for horizontal width and then type in 1080 for vertical height, but don't see that the horizontal width was automatically adjusted to 1620. And off you go. That can make the video look bad in Premiere Elements, although it shouldn't affect whether you can view the files in the Organizer.
The MOV files shouldn't play back in Windows Media Player on a PC (at least on my system they don't), unless you have installed a codec pack or another application has been installed that installed a quicktime codec that allows playing MOV files in Windows Media Player.
When you are in Windows Explorer with the view set to Thumbnails, if you don't get a thumbnail image for the MOV files, you might be able to fix it with the Codec Tweak Tool. After installing and running it, click on the Thumbnail button and select the MOV option if it isn't selected. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Codec_Tweak_Tool. I'm not sure that will have any effect on the view in the Organizer, but it's worth a shot.

  • 2 probs. No controls available 4 Keynote exported mov files, can't combine

I have 2 problems. I created several .mov files using Keynote 08 via the export function in Keynote. I am able to open and play these files in QT Pro however I cannot view the control bar with the Play, FF, RW, etc buttons that you get when you click on File>New Player. Does it have anything to do with the fact that the mov files were created in Keynote? I cannot imagine that this would be the problem.
The other problem is that the only reason I have multiple mov files that were created in Keynote was due to the fact that it was the only way I could get the audio to be in sync with my slides, and this was the suggestion of Apple Tech Support. So, I created 8 different Key files, exported them all to mov files and now want to combine them using QT Pro (or I would use iMovie if it would let me).
Can anyone help me with these issues? Thanks in advance.
    Craig

I am trying to use the controls in Quicktime that you are telling me are disabled since I exported from Keynote. Perhaps if I explain the motivation, you may be able to better understand what I am trying to accomplish. I have 8 mov files I created in Keynote. The reason I spit them to 8 was based on a recommendation from an Apple Tech Support guy. My audio was not syncing up with my slides and he explained that it was due to system resources not being sufficient (RAM) and that by splitting them, I could export them to Quicktime and put them back together in Quicktime. So, I am trying to put them together into 1 file that I can make into a podcast. So, when I tried to merge them together in Quicktime, since I had no controls, I couldn't figure out how to place the 8 mov files in the correct order.
Hopefully this will make some sense to you and you will be able to offer some advice.
    Thanks again!

  • Keynote ruining .mov files

Is there a way to stop Keynote ruining all my .mov animations by compressing them (aside from going back to Keynote 5)?
It ignores the "do not optimise" option.

  • TS1362 I am running windows xp with all the updates. I have an HP Pavilion with an AMD athlon xp-m processor.  I have the most RAM I can install on this PC (1 gig). I also have plenty of disc space(over 60 gig). Why can't I play my .MOV files correctly.

I cannot get the .mov files I recorded on my I-phone 4 to play correctly( i.e. no audio, video jerky at best), on my HP Pavilion laptop with an AMD athlon xp-m, OS=XP, 1 gig ram, plenty of hard drive space >50 gig. Just not enough RAM or am I missing something? I have updated all I can(Quicktime, I-tunes etal). Any ideas?

My first thought when reading your post ( video jerky) is that the CPU doesn't have enough horse power? What is the GHz of the AMD athlon? 1.8 GHz would be right on the edge with video. And where the computer will max out at 1 Ghz of RAM indicates the laptop is older and the CPU probably as well. 1 GHz of RAM maybe low on today's computers but would not be an issue if the CPU was perhaps 2.8 GHz. The audio is less demanding by far on CPU's than video, so that could be a codec?

  • MOV files from Ipad not playing correctly in 2010 Windows PPT presentation

I inserted .mov files taken from Ipad 2 into a.ppt on my work PC. I saved these files to the folder containing all of the videos I am showing in the ppt-- the same folder where the .ppt is located as well.  Then I inserted them as I do all videos (I create ppts often for work) -- and  the clips that are horizontal play fine but the vertical ones do not play correctly- audio and video not in sync.  any remedies?  (using ppt 2010, converted files to wmv, didn't work either).   I should add that when I viewed these files on my PC (by just clicking the file) they play fine, but they are not rotated correctly.  This must have been my fault when I took the videos.  However, when I insert them they are rotated correctly but just don't play right - looks like a Japanese movie.    please help!

  • Color Correcting MOV file

Hello,  I have a problem with importing FCP generated XML file into Adobe Premiere Pro, so I can later transfer it to Adobe After Effects for color correcting.  So I'm thinking to color correct a high quality MOV file that I can export from Final Cut.  Does that make any sense?  I'd like to keep highest quality possible for submitting my film to film festivals, DVD etc.
Would such a method adversely affect the quality of the image?  What would be the best way to color correct a file?
Also, as a side question, does Color Finesse come built-in into After Effects or one has to purchase it separately.  For someone, who is an amateur in color correcting does it make a big difference whether one color correct in After Effects or Color Finesse?
    Many thanks

If you export a losslessly encoded movie from Final Cut Pro, then you won't lose any quality by moving your movie back and forth as a QuickTime movie. People often use the Animation codec or the PNG codec in a QuickTime container for lossless encoding of movies for such transfers. The files are big, though, so don't expect to use such files for distribution or realtime playback.
Yes, Color Finesse is included with the full version of After Effects (not with the free trial version, though). See "Color correction and adjustment".

  • .MOD to .MOV File gew very large following conversion

I had a .MOD file on my JVC that was 1.5GB in size (approximately 27mins in length) and I wanted to get it over to iMovie HD. I used software called 'mpegstreamclip' to covert it to a .MOV file. The conversion was successful and the video quality is very good when played back on Quicktime, but now the size of the .MOV file is 6GB and now I can't get it from iMovie HD onto a DVD. How did it become so large??
The other .MOD files on my camera, about 6 of them, I converted as well and they relatively remained the same size that the .MOD was.
    Bill

You don't say what KIND of .mov you converted to. You should have converted to DV, which is iMovie's native format. DV is 13GB per hour of running time. DV is so large to allow editing.
As mentioned, iDVD cares just about running time, not the size of the iMovie project (or its components).

  • Conversion of ACVHD video to .mov file

How do I convert video ACVHD video to a .mov file so that I can make it compatible to use on a MAC?  I have a P.C. at home, where I edit on
Premier Elements, but the studio uses MACS.  I know a .mov file is compatible with a MAC.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

    sca-tv
What version of Premiere Elements is involved here?
Am I correct that you are talking about use of a file exported and saved to hard drive in Windows? We are not talking about using a project.prel created in Premiere Elements Windows and trying to open that in Premiere Elemens Mac? That is a not go.
AVCHD is a video compression type often designated MPEG4 AVC/H.264. What is the file extension (wrapper for AVCHD), .mp4, .mts, other?
Without more information about what you have, I am not sure that you need to convert what you have to anything else for import into Mac. What are the properties of what you have:
    Frame Size: 1920 x 1080 or other
Frame Rate: 25 or 29.97/30 interlaced or progressive frames per second
    Scan Type: Interlaced or Progressive
Pixel Aspect Ratio = Square Pixels (1.0) or other
    File Extension: .mp4 or other
Based on that information and provided that you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on Windows and Mac...
    AVCHD.mov
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    QuickTime
and set Presets = NTSC DV 16:9 with customization to the required properties under the Advanced Button/Video Tab (video codec = H.264) and Audio Tab (audio codec = AAC or other).
If you have AVCHD.mp4, give that a try as is in your Premiere Elements Mac.
But more information is needed to fine tune.
    Thanks.

  • Batch conversion of MOV files for use in PPro Windows

I have PPro CS3 on Windows XP (the OS is more relevent to the question than the software version, I think).  I have been buying some inexpensive stock footage, and the HD/SD libraries they have been offering lately come as MOV files with apple-flavored codecs, if you know what I mean.  Fortunately PPro has been able to open everything I have tried so far, but of course they have to be rendered.  And results in player software (for previewing clips) varies by frame size and whether the clip has audio (most don't, but a few do), and not being able to see thumbnails in Windows hampers my speed in selecting clips, especially since the files came named "1.mov", "2.mov", etc. (yeah, I'll eventually rename them to something useful).  So I would like to just convert them all to AVIs with the Microsoft DV codec, so that they will play natively in PPro without rendering.  I know I could use PPro to do the conversion (put them all on a timeline and do Export Movie one at a time), but I was hoping for a batch solution.  I've downloaded and installed a number of free converter programs, but nothing seems to be able to output in the Microsoft DV codec.
Some of the files are HD (1920x1080), some are SD 16:9 that were reduced from those HD clips, and some are original SD 4:3.  The codec for the HD ones is reported by GSpot to be "Apple Photo JPEG", and the SD ones use something simply called "dvc" or "DV".  Noting the similarity of the name "DV", I did try just telling the conversion program to leave the video stream alone and just change the wrapper from MOV to AVI.  WMP and Windows' thumbnail generator seem to understand the resulting file, but PPro shows colored noise - so much for that idea.
    Any suggestions are welcome!

For my conversions, I use DigitalMedia Converter 2.7, and it does batch conversion very well. Now for the caveat (you knew one was coming, right?), Deskshare has introduced "new and improved" software, but I have not tried it yet. I do not know how it will handle your footage, so the trial might be in order.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Export for flash-movie file conversion.

I want to prepare files for the highest quality possible for conversion to flash-movie files. I recorded in HDV- edited in HDV- send to Color in HDV- and now my question is if I should send it to FCP from Color in 10 bit-uncompressed to keep the highest quality?
Also at the end exporting from FCP- should I change my sequence settings? Again I need the very highest quality for later conversion to a flash-movie file, and was told that uncompressed is the way to go??
    Any thoughts on this?
    Thanks- Adam.

"Keeping" the quality isn't really the issue-- if you're working in HDV, there's nothing to gain by going to Uncompressed, because you weren't working in Uncompressed in the first place. The exception to this is color grading and graphics: ideally, you would be working in a higher quality sequence such as ProRes (Uncompressed is probably overkill) in both FCP and Color.
Of course, I can't honestly say that any of this will make a difference in a Flash movie-- Flash is for web delivery, and to bring it down to a bitrate suitable for the web, you'll likely lose anything you might have gained from this process.

  • QTPro Could not save file "The movie contains an in correct time value"

QT Pro 7.6.6 Could not save file “The movie contains an in correct time value”
I’m exporting files out of Priemer Pro CS5 with the H.264 “vimeo HD settings” .mp4 files and the files look dull, low contrast and low color saturation, when played in QT10. From what I’ve read it’s a gamma problem with QT10. I also hear the files from FCP have the same problem, so it's not a Premiere Pro problem.
The fix is to open the file in QT Pro, adjust the blend in the video track and re-save, however I try to save the file I get an error that says “The movie contains an in correct time value”
Will QT Pro 7.6.6 allow me to save my file to .mp4 or only .mov files
    I’m on a MacPro 12 Core with 14gb memory
    OS 10.6.5
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Mark

Will QT Pro 7.6.6 allow me to save my file to .mp4 or only .mov files
The "Save As..." option always saves a copy of the data to an MOV file container. Minor property changes will allow your to use the "Save" option which stores only the changed properties to the same file in its original file container. Unfortunately, major changes will automatically invoke the "Save As..." routines even though you selected the "Save" option. If you must place the content in an MP4 file container, you can use the "Save As..." option in QT Streamclip to re-save the "fixed" MOV file to an MP4 file container. However, note that extraneous track content may, if present, not be carried over to the MP4 container.

  • 5D Mk2 mov file conversion

Who better than you guys to give me advice on this subject?
I need to convert these mov files, to burn them to a DVD for playing.
I did a search on the net, and it's overwhelming on all the converters, with every example claiming to be the best, until you read some of the pros/cons.
Can someone who has experience with these conversions give me some suggestions?
Does the conversion degrade the video?
    Thanks.
    Al

    > I found a program to convert the mov file, but it will end up as an mpeg, which allows me to watch it from a DVD player, but the quality goes the way you'd expect.
If the resulting quality is bad, it's because of the compression and/or codec used, not necessarily because it's on a DVD disc.
The only difference between a regular DVD and Blu-ray is amount of storage they can contain (and drive compatibility, of course). A regular, run of the mill DVD is fully capable of running HD - as long as the video file size is small enough to fit on the disc.
"HD" is considered High Definition because of the image resolution (either 1280x720 or 1920x1080), not because of the format or whether or not it's on Blu-ray disc. The only reason HD feature films are on Blu-ray is because the files are too large to fit on a regular DVD or even DL DVD discs. Likewise, if your footage is too long, and a quality conversion makes the file size too large, your only option would be Blu-ray.
If you were on a Mac, I'd say to use iMovie, Final Cut Express or even FC Pro and choose one of the HD options but I can't help with a PC. (not that I'm all that experienced with video anyway)
