Mov file to dvd

I have moved my videorecordings from my Ipad to my PC (not mac). Is there a program I can use to burn the mov-files to a dvd. My burningprogram can not burn MOV files

.wmv is, in fact, Windows media format, so yes, a PC should read it. But a PC should also be able to read .mov or .mp4. I can understand that there might be an issue with the DVD media, but the flash ought to work. Is the problem that the movie fails from the flash drive, or that the flash drive itself is unreadable (i.e., Windows can't read the drive's format)? You can try reformating the flash drive, or a new one, as FAT32 using Disk Utility and see if there's any better luck at school.
Another "Share" options from iMovie is YouTube; do you have a YouTube account you could post to and point the teacher that way?

  • How do I burn a .mov file to DVD?

I need to burn an MPEG-2 video file saved as .mov to a DVD that will play in a regular DVD player.
I have tried opening iDVD and the selecting 'Create a New Project'. When I have selected a location for the project and the main window opens, I go to File > OneStep DVD from Movie...
My understanding is that when I import a movie file, it will burn it straight to the disc without any further options. It does this, however after a couple of minutes the DVD is ejected blank and iDVD says the burn has completed.
How can I solve this problem or is there another way to burn a .mov file to DVD?
    Thanks, Dan

A green screen in an indication that the movie is in a format not supported by iDVD.   It should be in one of these formats:  DV, high-definition video (HDV), MPEG-2 SD, MPEG-2 SD, MPEG-4 SD, MPEG-4 HD, and AVCHD.  (From SDMacUser's post in What input file formats does iDVD...: Apple Support Communities). The post has other requirements that need to be met.
    SD = standard definition.
Open your movie with QT Player and bring up the Info window for the movie.  It will have the format:
Another possible reason is the Energy Saving settings on the Mac.  Turn off energy saving and screen saver before starting the save as disk image or burn.

  • Burning mov file to DVD

I am trying to burn my mov file to DVD. It keeps telling me that there is not enough space on the DVD even though the DVD states that it has 1 hour for HQ, 2 hours for SP, 4 hours for LP. The sequence is about 90 minutes.

You will need to set encoding to VBR and the lower the bitrate until your content can fit onto an SL DVD or opt for a DL DVD. Where are you encoding? DVDSP or Compressor?

  • How can I import .mov file into dvd studio pro?

    Hi,
I have a .mov file and want to but a dvd with menu and chapters. But when I try to import the .mov file into dvd studio pro it says Incompatible format. How can I import my .mov file in to dvd studio pro?

    Two ways…
Transcode into a codec like Pro Res, import into DVDSP and let it do the encoding.
    Or better yet:
Import into Compressor, choose a DVD preset and let Compressor encode. It will make two files, separate video and audio files. Import those into DVDSP.
    Good luck.

  • Burning .mov file to dvd via IDVD

I created a slide show to music on IMovie. Playing the .mov file through my computer and even projected on a big screen it looks great.  But when converting it to a DVD via IDVD, the font on the couple of lines of text that I have coming up with the pictures is pixilated and really horrible.  I tried a couple of different burns and always choose best quality but the results remain the same.  The dvd created through IDVD is horrible with really badly pixilated edges on the fonts.  How can I burn DVD's so that they look as good as they do playing directly from my .mov file so that I can burn copies for others who have requested my music slide show?  I am working with a brand new MacBook Pro computer and the IMovie and IDVD programs that came with it, if that helps at all.

    Hi,
The info helps explain what's happening -- the 1080p version is widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) and physically large (1920 pixels wide and 1080 pixels tall), and much more compressed than the DVCPRO50 version (the 1080p file is less than half the size even though it's more than twice the screen space).  So, iDVD would have a difficult time crushing that down into the standard DVD video dimensions.
The DVCPRO50 version is also widescreen, so you want to be sure your iDVD preference is set to 16:9 aspect ratio (if not, start a new project and re-import).
iDVD also has to crush this version to make it fit the standard 720x480 format, but not as much as the 1080p version.  Text can particularly suffer when video dimensions are altered.
Is your iMovie version gone or just won't open?
I'd be inclined to experiment with a copy of the DVCPRO50 version.  Try the free MPEG Streamclip to see if it can resize the video to 720x480 before bringing it into a 16:9 iDVD project.  Next try using Streamclip to convert the format to DV (DV Stream or .dv) to see if that format change makes iDVD happier.

  • Burning AVI movie files to DVD, whats the trick in iDVD?

I have AVI movie files that I want to burn to a DVD. I am able to "import" the file and do all the extras with iDVD but I am unable to select chapters and when I try to preview the movie its just a blank screen. What am I missing?!

    Hi
.avi is no Video Format/Codec - it is a container and can hold Codecs that iDVD can use or NOT
    • Open it in QuickTime Player
    • then open Inspector (cmd+I)
    • read - Video Format/Codec: nnnnnnnnn
    What does it read ?

  • H.264 HD MOV file in dvd studio not importing?

I have an H.264 HD video (1,440 x 1080, 16 x 9). I was able to import into FCp and export out to quicktime successfully yet when I attempt to import this file into DVD Studio it shuts down as it tries to import, throwing an error? Any ideas.

I'm having the same problem when attempting to produce an HD DVD as recommended by Rick Young.
I have no difficulty in burning an HD DVD using MPEG compression, but I'm unable to get DVDSP to accept an H264 file created using compressor (H264 for DVDSP setting). The .mov file when brought into DVDSP4 is seen only as an audio file; it plays as video in QT and also in iDVD as expected. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?

  • Burn a mov file to dvd disk

Hi, trying to burn a short MOV file to a dvd and wish to know the proper procedure.
The file is presently on my iMac, but wish the dvd to play on a dvd player.
Step by step instructions would be great since I've not done this before.
I've never perfomrd a burn image, so if that's necessary kindly provide instructions.
    Thank you.

First you need an applicartion that can create/author a video DVD.  The best available for the Mac is iDVD.
However, If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

I have a similar issue (I want to view downloaded shows on the TV instead of the computer). I have installed the divx codec and the shows I have downloaded play perfectly in QT. I can pull them into iDVD too and they look great in the preview, but the image quality of the divx files in the DVD transcoded product is very poor, whether viewed on the monitor or the TV. I had better image quality results with a .mov file but iDVD didn't preserve the aspect ratio, leaving me with tall and skinny people. Never had this problem with my old PC using encoding software like NeroVision Express. What am I missing? Can anybody help?

  • Burn 3 GB's of AVI Movie Files to DVD?

I'm having trouble burning and getting 9 home movie AVI files from my computer to a DVD.
Here's the problem. When I open iDVD and add even just one of the AVI files to my iDVD project, I'm told the file size is too big...though the AVI file size is about 500mb's. I'm told to check out project info and i've changed the settings to high quality rather than best performance or something. But the file is still too big, even with just that one added AVI file.
I also tried taking one folder with all 9 AVI files and burning it directly through the finder window... and though it took its sweet time "burning"....the final product was an empty disc really.
    Help please.

I understand. Therefore my next option I see is compressing these AVI files so the person I send them to will be able to view them on their computer correct?? ? ? ?
How would I go about doing this on my Mac?

  • Mov. file to dvd/ flashdrive

I am having trouble copying a movie made with iMovie to a dvd. I move the file to the dvd icons on the desktop and all that shows up on the disc is the alias. this is for my daughters English project. I tried exporting the movie to mp4 and put it on a flash drive which she took to school, but it cannot be opened there. Does anyone have an idea how I could accomplish this? Thanks.

help trying to put a video on dvd in windows  its a mov. file  apple i phone file

As for converting iPhone .mov files into DVD, I believe Windows can do that itself within Movie Maker, it is free.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/movie-maker
Otherwise you'd have to use custom software like AppGeeker which will convert the MOV videos into DVD format and burn them to a playable DVD in one process.

Let me know how you get on with them.

  • How best to burn avi movie file to a DVD?

I am the owner of a new 20" iMac and would like to burn an avi movie file to a DVD. I am informed by an Apple tech rep that the avi file has to be converted to a DV or MPEG-4 file before the iDVD program can burn it to a DVD. To make the conversion a Roxio program called Popcorn has been suggested, but the cost is $50.
I will appreciate any advice as to alternative lower cost programs that will accomplish the conversion.
I am also open to any other approaches that will enable me to burn the avi file to a DVD. (Before switching from a Windows computer to the iMac I used to burn avi movie files to DVDs with no sweat via NeroVision Express which was part of the Nero 6 software package that was supplied with an external DVD burner).

I’m not conversant with the technical aspects of the information on the other two websites to which you refer. I really can’t tell whether these programs would meet the demands of this particular situation. I do not want to download programs, even if they are freeware, if I don’t know what I am getting. This movie stuff is certainly a much more complex issue to deal with than mp3 song files!
I am too new to the world of Mac to know whether QuickTime Pro would be of advantage. I’ll have to look into it.
I think QT Pro is like another editing app in and of itself and much more. It is very much worth every cent that apple is asking for this software. In fact, in some situations it's actually vital in the creation of several projects.
I'm guessing you too will find this out on your own when it comes to combining two QT movies together as one project or triming and existing QT movie rather than reworking both separate projects from scratch.
Bottom line is that it's significant time saver. And for me time = $$$. (Hence this QT software is worth every cent of $29).
Btw... and nobody pays me to say this about apple software. I'm just stating what works best for me.
Speaking of which .... I also happen to be my own beta tester.
I think you're going to have to get used to the idea of testing your own software / plugins that will work best for you and in your own situation. You might want to consider investing in an ext. HD if you don't already own one.
The way I approach this is to clone my exisiting HD using CCC and then running the latest apple update /software on the cloned HD rather than attempting to alter my existing HD (which to me is essentially my bread and butter).
    Hope this helps.
