.mov files on iphone

I have a Canon point and shoot camera that takes awesome HD video in the .mov format.  I upload to iphoto 11 fine, but when I try to sync these video files to my iphone 4, there is an error and it says that those .mov files cannot be played on the iphone.  Is that true?  I thought the iphone could play .mov.

.mov files can be played by the iPhone only if encoded with certain codecs.
QuickTime in general allows many more codecs.
"The required file cannot be found"
Does this .mov play in iTunes? If not, it may be something wrong with the file. If purchased via iTunes you can download it again at no extra charge, so try that.

  • How do I get QuickTime/ITunes to read .mov files on Iphone 4?

All software advises that it cannot read the .mov files from Iphone 4.   Photoshop advises that there is probably a codec missing.  Download from??  Would a video adapter correct the problem.......?

assuming copy to ... when adding to library is checkmarked in preferences > advanced, drag the files from the external into an open iTunes window while holding the option (⌥) key.

  • .MOV files from iphone - audio but no video in QuickTime

iphone 3gs, latest DirectX and Quicktime. Downloaded .mov files from iphone don't play correctly in QuickTime. The audio is there but there is no video, just a black screen.
I tried switching the video to "safe mode". This does show the video, but its terribly choppy and unwatchable.
I believe something changed recently with an update to itunes or QuickTime. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

How do I get this file to play?
By installing the proper video codec component if available as advised by application. See the video "Format:" entry in finder "Info", QT "Inspector", or "Property" window. Basically you must have the same playback decoder installed on your second machine as was used to encode the video the first. Sounds as if the component configurations on the two machines are not the same.

I cannot play .mov files (from iPhone) in Premiere Elements 10. Is there a solution?
It used to work fine. I wonder if the problem has something to do with the recent iPhone update. Is there any Premiere update I can download?

Well, if it used to work... and then you updated your iphone and now it does not work... that seems to ME like the iphone update changed something in the files
But, exactly what is inside your mov files?

  • Delete partially copied movie file from iPhone. Shows grayed out in Videos on the iPhone but it doesn't show up in iTunes.

    Hello.
I have synced my iPhone 4S with iTunes and I got an error while copying one movie. Now this movie shows up grayed out in videos on the iPhone but NOT in iTunes. Hence, I cannot delete this partially copied movie from my iPhone. And since it is grayed out, the right-to-left swipe does not work. I have resynced with "no movies" option so that every movie would be deleted and indeed every movie was deleted except for the problematic one. I rebooted the iPhone several times in case it was a glitch. No success. I even tried tools like iExplorer and DiskAid but I cannot find this **** file. Is there any way to delete this partially copied file from the iPhone without having to restore it?
    Regards,

    Hi adtsalmon,
You can only watch the movie on the device you rented it on. Here's a snippet from the Apple Support site (italics mine):
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.
Here's the link to the Movie Rentals FAQs site FYI:

    Hope this helps!

  • IPhoto reads wrong date of .mov file from iPhone 3GS...help!

    Hi all
    Need some help/advice please.
I have a bunch of files I am importing in to iPhoto that were initially downloaded to a windows laptop. I used Graphic Converter (GC) to successfully rotate and align the creation/modified dates so iPhoto reads the correct date. Now GC edits the .jpg and .avi file metadata fine, but wont edit .mov files from my iPhone? So now the iPhone videos are strewn all over the place in iPhoto compared to where they should be date-wise. Any ideas on how to fix this issue?
The .mov files in GC show the correct creation date, but iPhoto reads the actuals file's modified date instead of the internal creation date? So strange?
    Thanks
    Jared

iPhoto gets it's date and time from the Photos Exif metadata, not the file creation or modification dates. It will only use those if your photos have no Exif.
If you subsequently export these files then the created and modification dates a re very likely to change.
You can adjust the date and time rather more easily in iPhoto (Using either the Photos -> Adjust Date and Time and/or the Photos -> Batch Change commands) You can also write the corrected date and time to the Exif of the oriignals files, and export it along with the file in the future.
I'm not sure what's up with the dates on these mov files, but Movies don't have an Exif. You might want to check with the makers of Graphic Coverter for help.
You know that you can move pics and movies around inside iPhoto, right? Drag them from Event to Event?

  • How to play quicktime .mov files on iphone

I would like to be able to play quicktime (.mov) files on my iphone4s but I get a message that my file cannot be played on this iphone.
I created the file in keynote, exported it to a quicktime movie with the manual advance option.
My goal is to be able to use iphone to connect to a projector with a iphone to vga adapter and thus project my presentations from the iphone.
But I cannot import import it using itunes to the iphone.
Wondering if there is an app that plays quick time movies or some other option.
The reason I cannot export from keynote is that it does not give the option for manual advance.
It only provides a fixed time option.
    Appreciate any help
    thank you

  • Mov files from Iphone lagging when attempting to edit in imovie.

Recently I imported a couple videos (mov files) from my iphone to edit them in imovie.. but for some reason they keep lagging. when I drag the mouse across the clip the playhead line doesnt even keep up... All videos I shot in the past have been edited just fine without lagging and they still don't when I checked them in my events.. So I have reason to believe its the file but they're all Mov files. If anyone has insight on these I will appreciate the help...Thank You.

    Hi Tyler!
Of the options you list I would choose 'Raw DV'. iMovie is designed to handle a DV stream @ 13GB per hour, for editing and transfer to iDVD.
But ask the vendor to confirm that his 'Raw DV' is designed for transfer to iMovie 6 on an Apple Mac, and before he loads up the hard drive you are supplying make sure that it has been formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

  • Lost a movie file from iphone

please help me as this is a really inportant vid i took

OK, try this. Launch itunes, connect your phone, go up to File>Add to library. Then browse to your iphone name (Which is shown as camera in windows Explorer). All the photos and videos should be shown. Select the video you want to copy and click Add. This should copy the video to your pc(given the size, this might take awhile). Then just go to Library>Movies and see if it shows up properly.

  • How to export a VCD movie file to iPhone ?

I was trying to convert some of my VCD (MPEG-1) movies to be viewable on my iPhone using QuickTime Pro's Export function. The VCD movie is viewable in QuickTime Player with both video and sound. However, after the conversion, I only get video but no audio. Any idea? Thanks for your help in advance.

Use Streamclip to break the larger file into smaller "chunks" prior to export and export to DV Stream.
Use QuickTime Pro to join these .dv files and then export to a 320X240 (or maybe 480X360) at the iPhone .mov settings (not the built in preset values). If needed you can use the built in "Filters" adjustments to adjust HSL or brightness and contrast to improve video quality.

  • LR 5.3 won't import .mov files from iphone 5s

I'm running Mavericks and LR 5.3 and have had trouble importing video files from my iphone 5s.  All of my software is up to date.  It seems that LR is having trouble connecting to the dynamic link server.  It doesn't work even when I disable my firewall.  I've already purged my video cache in LR.  Is there anything else I should try?

There are many, many posts of this nature in these forums.  See, for example:
    iphoto won’t import mov video
For many, rebuilding the XPC helper cache solves the problem off the bat. In terminal try this, and reboot:
    sudo /usr/libexec/xpchelper --rebuild-cache
The above posted by Andy Ball on a thread related to a similar problem with Aperture:
Re: Import video to Aperture library on Mountain Lion
    Other things to try:
    1. create a fresh iPhoto library and try that.  (hold down opt while launching iPhoto)
    2. create a new OS X user (in system preferences) and try there.
In my case – and many cases – neither of those things work either, which means the problem is system wide.  Again suggesting that the xpc helper solution might work. But for me it did not either.
There are other suggestions that there are conflicts with Perian (on Yosemite) and flip4mac.  In my case uninstalling both of those didn't solve it either.
So maybe one of those solutions will work for you, results apparently vary.  But this is a huge unresolved issue many others are having as well.  I have a case with a senior apple advisor open, still unresolved. His suggestion of course, at this point, is an archive and re-install. I'm not ready to go there yet.
BTW, another thing he had me try was to import the file with Image Capture (which works).  Then open it in QuickTime Player X.  Then try exporting to 480p.  Does QuickTime crash?  It does for me.
    My summary:
    1. Files successfully import with Image Player.
    2. Files play with QuickTime Player X.
    3. QuickTime Player X crashes when exporting to 480p.
    4. Files import with iMove.
    5. Files fail to import with iPhoto (unrecognized format as with OP)
    6. iPhoto import failure/errors are system wide and not specific to a library or a user.
    7. rebuilding xpchelper cache and rebooting in my case does not resolve issue.
    8. same videos import fine in iPhoto on a totally different system (laptop running same versions of OS X 10.10 and iPhoto 9.5.1)
