.mov files playing very "noisy"

hello. I have my website, which has several .mov files, which play individually. Certain ones seem to playback very "noisy" and distorted. The original file seems fine when i play via quicktime, but when you watch online, it doesn't look nearly as good.
Here is the site www.coutroulis.com
then go to "spots" and watch the first two.
What am i doing wrong?
thanks in advance

Me again nick, but on the video quality - btw, I really like ur work - I was struck by http://web.me.com/coutroulis/Nikos_site/neulasta.html, which is exhibiting the same behavior as some QT files being exported from FCS 3 here in the studio, using either QT or Compressor engine. And that would be the de-interlacing artifacts on fast moving changes, as with transitions, sails flapping, flower petals falling etc.. I have not figured out why the "noise" appears yet in just certain HD projects, but what we found was that after we uploaded to youtube (and all of our stuff goes there with the rest of the garbage), that artifact went away. That was a case of "garbage in, amrita out." It also goes away (somewhat) when we burn to DVD. But the artifact only popped up after we certified FCS3 on Snow Leopard. Now everyone is shaking their heads. Perhaps this is related...

  • Audio not in synch with video when mov files played in QT 7.6

When I play .mov files stored in an iPhoto 08 photo library, the audio is not in synch with the video. People's lips move and the audio comes out a second or so later. This is a relatively new problem, and I don't have the same problem when I play .avi files. A couple weeks ago, the audio and video were good and they were synchronized. The video in the .mov files is also choppy. The video plays for a few seconds, briefly pauses, and then starts again.
    Appreciate any suggestions.

I'm not sure this is the issue. The video files were never in iMovie. Only imported into the iPhoto libaray from my Kodak M1033 camera. A few weeks ago, I did not have an issue with .mov files playing smoothly. Perhaps there was a recent update to QT?
When I upload the .mov clips to Flickr (www.flickr.com) or YouTube, they play just fine, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

  • One mov file plays in Media Viewer on Ext Hd Drv, imported into FCPX it plays 5 sec then goes black. No problem with other mov files.

One mov file plays in Windows Media Viewer in Ext Hd Drv. Imported as Proxy Media into FCPX it plays in both Event and Time Line for 5 seconds, then goes black. No problem with many other mov files in same project. Tried converting this one file into MP4, but produced only pixellated jumble.

Can you open the clip in the QuickTime player? What are the specs shown in the inspector?

  • Movie Clip playing very fast

    Hi guys,
I have a problem with my loaded movie clip, its playing very fast than its suppose to, (using loadMovie) I've tried to adjust the frame rate of the main file and the movie file, but still the problem occurs.... any suggestion on fixing this??

If both movies do not have the same frame rate, then they need to be the same.

  • My Mov. files play sound but no picture on Quicktime Player

Please help - I don't know much about computers - called the apple support line and they weren't very helpful.
    I'm a Mac OS X Version 10.5.8
What do I need to do to play my mov. files? They play on my friends mac but not mine. They were originally edited in final cut pro and saved as mov.
    Help please?

I am having the same issue. My .MOV files wouldn't even open, so I converted the files to the Apple Intermediate Codec using MPEG Streamclip as per the Apple Support Tech's instruction. The file will play now, but with no video. What else do I have to do?

  • .MOD to .MOV File gew very large following conversion

I had a .MOD file on my JVC that was 1.5GB in size (approximately 27mins in length) and I wanted to get it over to iMovie HD. I used software called 'mpegstreamclip' to covert it to a .MOV file. The conversion was successful and the video quality is very good when played back on Quicktime, but now the size of the .MOV file is 6GB and now I can't get it from iMovie HD onto a DVD. How did it become so large??
The other .MOD files on my camera, about 6 of them, I converted as well and they relatively remained the same size that the .MOD was.
    Bill

You don't say what KIND of .mov you converted to. You should have converted to DV, which is iMovie's native format. DV is 13GB per hour of running time. DV is so large to allow editing.
As mentioned, iDVD cares just about running time, not the size of the iMovie project (or its components).

  • .MOV Files playing on some machines not others

Ok, so this morinig we are having an issue win which a file that will play on two of our macs will not play on any others via QT.  When I open with QT X, I get a dialogue suggesting the file is corrupt, when I open with QT7 I recieve the old "An invalid public movie atom was found in the movie".  On this machine, I can open these files via VLC and Handbrake, but not QT.  We have two other machines that can play them fine in QT, so I thought it was a missing codec issue. Comparing the Quicktime folders from both root->Library and root->Syatem->Library show that I have all of the same codecs installed, so that cannot be the issue.
The files in question are from a Firestore capture drive, and have a .mov extension.
    Any help appreciated,
    -Will

I'm having the same problem.  It must because of a recent QuickTime update.  I suspect the iTunes 10.5 update is the culprit.  I shoot with a FireStore (FS-C) and have 5 Macs that can no longer read any of the .mov files.  All the Macs (MacBook,Pro 8,3 / MacBookPro 8,2 / MacBookPro 5,2 / MacBookPro 2,2 / MacMini 4,1) are running 10.6.8 and all were capable of reading the FireStore files...until very recently.  The last footage I edited was on October 9th.  Somewhere between then and today (October 25th), an Apple update made the .mov files unopenable.  When I try to play the files in Final Cut Pro (7.0.3), I get a "General Error" message.
I've installed VLC and the files will all play properly in the VLC player, so the files themselves are intact.
UPDATE:  Yes, the problem stems from a recent QuickTime update.  This has been confirmed in the following support notice from VITEC:
    http://www.focusinfo.com/dynassets/documents/downloads/MACOSX_Supp_Anncmt_10.21. 11.pdf
I'm going to try downgrading my installed QuickTime and I'll post the results.

  • A mov file plays in 'Get Info' preview, but not in Quicktime

I recorded a talk to web cam yesterday using Quicktime Pro and edited out the overlong pauses and fluffs to produce a series of .mov clips. Today I copied and pasted the clips into one .mov file in Quicktime Pro. The first 12 clips were fine.
The 13th clip opened as if it was audio only, but when played did not give any sound. An examination of the movie properties window showed about 3 minutes of audio and video, but neither were selected and could not be selected. When I tried to extract the video thinking I could then reassemble the file, I got a message saying that one of my raw clips was missing. The file was saved as self-contained and is about 7 MBytes. When it opens with the appearance of an audio file the last part of the clip I pasted in is highlighted as if selected; this corresponds to the file it is asking for.
Now I had deleted my raw data as my hard drive is nearly full and I was getting warnings to that effect. But as the files had been saved as self-contained rather than reference, this should surely not be a problem.
The strange thing is that if I select the .mov file and do a 'get info' then I can play the audio and video perfectly in the 'get info' preview plan, up until that final part corresponding to the missing file.
It looks like I have to do the last bit once more, but how can I keep the rest of it? I've tried deleting the final part and re-saving, but it still opens with the appearance of an audio file (which is silent when I play it). I can at least listen to what I said in the first recording, but it would be good to be able to keep the part that plays in 'get info'.
Any ideas of how I can get to it?
    Any ideas.

    Solution found.
I simply created a new .mov file and changed its name to the raw file that Quicktime told me was missing when I tried to open my edited clip.
The edited clip now opens and I've been able to delete the final portion (which appears selected when the clip opens) and save the rest, which plays fine.
This seems to have been a problem because in this particular clip I left the final portion I pasted in selected when I saved the file, even though I saved is as self-contained, not a reference file.

  • *.mov files play on ipad without audio

I have recently transferred some *.mov files from my PC to iPad. These files play perfectly well on PC in both Quicktime Player and Windows Media Player. However, when I try to play them on iPad, I get video only (no sound). I have latest versions of all softwares so cannot figure out why iPad is not playing audio of only these files. I had some old *.mov files on my iPad which play perfectly well (both video and audio) so how can I fix this problem.

I had some WMV files which I had converted to *.MOV using AVS Video Converter. I have compared the properties of old *.MOV files which play on iPad perfectly well (using QuickTime Player) with the properties of the newly-transferred files and they are exactly the same in every aspect. Is it possible that because of low memory (about 4GB) left on iPad after the new files' transfer, the audio is not playing on iPad?

  • .MOV files play audio but no video

hi, does anyone know why that when i open a .MOV file from my digital camera in quicktime, the audio plays fine but the picture however is a fuzzy green and purple mess? i have tried re-installing quicktime and everything but it makes no difference. do i need a new plugin for .mov files? the video plays fine in realplayer, but i would like to be able to open it in quicktime for realplayer tends to jump and freeze quite a lot.
any help would be most obliged!
    Sam

Yes, this fixed my problem too.
The problem appears to be that Quicktime for Windows is set to require DirectX support as the default and my Toshiba Tecra M2 notebook with NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 32M/64M discrete video adapter probably doesn't support that.
    Quicktime Preferences (Advanced tab)
    ========================
Safe mode (GDI only) <-- works, displays video correctly
DirectX <-- video scrambled, brown/purple/other colors mess, but audio works

    Enable DirectDraw on secondary monitors
    Enable Direct3D video acceleration

  • No .mov files play

I upgraded to Pro from version 6 to 7 and now no .mov file will play. Not even the main trailers for movies on the quicktime page plays. Everything worked fine until I upgraded. I've tried .mov files all over the internet and my computer and none of them will play, I just get a flickering screen, usually a brownish color.

By the way, I just tried to view my Quicktime info from the system tray icon and got the following error:
    Error signature
    AppName: qtinfo.exe AppVer 7.1.0.210 ModName: usbmn2x2.dll
    ModVer: 0.4.1.14 offset 00001f57
I've already uninstalled and reinstalled with the Quicktime only install file and rebooted.

  • Why won't my .mov files play?

Hello, I need to convert .mov files into another format, but I can't even play the .mov files on my Mac w/Snow Leopard and Quicktime 10.0. Why is that? What do I need to at least play them back on my MacBook Pro? Thank you, gharaldson

There's a number of reasons that they may not play.
.MOV is what's called a "container". Namely it stores audio and video streams in any format and then includes descriptive information about that data to help select the software (codecs) required to play them back.
A QuickTime movie won't playback if it's: a.) not actually a quicktime movie, b.) a damaged file (data is corrupted), or c.) the content was encoded using a method that isn't part of standard quicktime.
Generally speaking, if you use Quicktime or Apple applications, then they will encode audio and video using one of the mechanisms built into Quicktime. However, it's possible to create valid Quicktime files using other software that uses encoding mechanisms not in the standard Quicktime bundle. Software like FFMPEG and VLC can be used to produce such files, for example.
Do you have an error that indicates the nature of the problem?

  • .mov file plays fine on friend's PC, but not mine

Hey, I have a .mov file that is a little over 1gb. It plays the first 4 seconds just fine, and then the picture pauses and the audio stops. The marker on the progress bar and the timer keep going like everything is normal. When I scrub through the timeline, it flashes between a blank green screen and the last frame where it froze.
I have Quicktime Pro and tried exporting is as a smaller file, but it still pauses and does the same thing 4 seconds in. Exported it as .avi, same exact thing.
So, I took it to a friend's PC which is running Windows 7 and it worked just as it should. I'm running XP Pro 64 on mine. I have plenty of hard drive space available and 2 gigs of RAM, so I don't see what's the problem.
I've read that Quicktime tends to have a problem with XP64, and that version 7.4.5 works the best, but after going back to that, it still does the exact same thing.
Does anyone have any thought on this? Thanks in advance!

raytw, I just tried opening it in Streamclip and clicked Fix Timecode Breaks, but it didn't seem to affect it at all. And at first I thought it may be a corrupted file, but then again, it DOES work fine on my friend's PC.
Kirk, I'm starting to think it may be my 64 bit OS as well. I tried changing the compatibility mode, but when I do so, Quicktime gives me an error saying, "QuickTime Player requires Windows 2000 or later. Please make sure compatibility mode is disabled in the Compatibility tab of the properties for QuickTimePlayer.exe." and it won't open.
