MOV-Files: Syncing out of Apetture - No Syncing with Connection Kit - Yes

Hi,
I have a Lumix LX3 and videos taking by the cam won't sync to the ipad via itunes/aperture.
When I import the video files with the Camera Connection kit everything works fine.
So there is no different in the format of the video.
Why doesn't it work with the "normal" sync?
Greetings, Mark
(Please excuse my bad english)

I'd like to know if this has been solved.
I just got an iPad recently, and used my Lumix TZ5 along with the camera connection kit to transfer photos and movies from the SD card to the iPad. Worked beautifully. Now I'm at my computer, synced everything to iPhoto on my Mac -- and the movies (which transferred fine into iPhoto from the iPad) don't sync back to the iPad. I get an error saying:
"Some of the videos in your iTunes library, including [filename], were not copied to the iPad because they cannot be played on this iPad."
When I click for more info, I get a list of all the videos in the albums I'm trying to sync, with errors for each one that read:
"[filename] was not copied because the video format is not supported by the iPad."
Anybody have any ideas? And yes, "include videos" is checked.

  • Home video not appearing in Videos/Movies after syncing with first generation iPad.

Why is my home video in Shared Libraries but not Movies after syncing with first generation iPad?  It appears in Movies on iPad2 and iPad3.  I've already changed Media Kind to "Movie."  I didn't have this problem 1 month ago when syncing a new video.  Is there a software update issue?  iPad says software is up-to-date.

The video app has 4 tabs across the top.  If they are not hiding  in one of the  tabs, i suspect they are missing the type identifier and the app doesnt know where to show them.  Glas that at least you can find them.
Next time you sync, take a look in i tunes, and see if they are fully labeled there.  I would not be surprised if one the i tunes fields is the key for the pad video app to know which tab to put the, under.

  • AVI videos from iTunes don't sync/play on iPad, but via Camera Connection Kit - YES

I synced about 100 events (containing both photos as well as .avi "video" files) from my MacBook Pro-13" (10.6.8) to my new iPad 3.  NONE of the avi files transferred, but then I kinda expected this as I understand iPad can only play m4e or MP4 video formats.
BUT then I transferred an avi file from an SD card using the Camera Connection Kit - and the video played just fine!  I'm going to redo this -- the 58 second video appears in the videos section of my iPad under "movies".
Can anyone explain why this worked via the Camera Connection Kit but not via iTunes - and indeed why the avi file plays at all on the iPad?
    Thanks.

Johnathan,   -- I wrote this below in bold then the discussions site went down for maintenance and then Menneisyys and Kiwiphone4 replied and I think they are confirming what I'm saying here (only a bit more technically correct).
Thanks for your comment – but my issue is not with pirated or other movie video from the www, rather (as Menneisyys points-out) with videos I take with my Nikon Coolshot camera.  What has perplexed me is this:
I synced about 100 events (containing both photos as well as .avi "video" files) from my MacBook Pro-13" (10.6.8) to my new iPad 3.  NONE of the avi files transferred---
    BUT:
…then I transferred an avi file from an SD card using the Camera Connection Kit - and the video played just fine!
Why on the same iPad with the same .avi video does it transfer via the CCK and play on the iPad, but not via an iTunes transfer.
PERHAPS THIS?!:  The .avi movie NEVER MAKES IT into iTunes because iTunes cannot play an avi movie; therefore if it is not there, it can't be transferred.  That must be it or something like that.  (The avi movie I transfer from my Nikon is in iPhoto - and it plays in iPhoto - but since photo and video transfers to the iPad go via iTunes, and iTunes apparently can't bring-in avi, then it cannot act as the "bridge" in the way the CCK does.
    Is that it?
    Thanks everyone for any comments.

  • Why won't MVI movie files sync to iPad?

I sync home photos and movies between my iMac and iPad. I first take pictures & videos with a camera, download into iPhoto on my iMac, then sync to my iPad. My problem is with movies.
I use two different cameras for movies  -- a Sony and a Canon. All works fine with movies taken with a Sony camera, which after downloading to iPhoto, appear  as a 'MOV###" file. Those files sync and play everywhere, including on my iPad.
However, movies I shoot with a Canon camera download into iPhoto as a "MVI###" file. Those files play fine in iPhoto on my iMac but will not sync to my iPad.
When I attempt to sync those MVI movies to my iPad I get a warning message saying 'those files did not sync because they can not be played on iPad'
How do I get those MVI movie files to sync to the iPad?
I assume the problem is a formating issue,... but I don't know how to go about the best fix.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

1, I don't think it's worth swapping the Canon camera for something else only because of this incompatibility. (BTW, which model is it?)
2, I've tested the workflow myself with my Canon G1X and Canon S100 videos, with the above-mentioned ipadfix.py file and directly synching videos imported / dragged to the desktop iPhoto via the "Photos" tab in iTunes. Unfortunately, iPhoto doesn't have any H.264 level adjustment (which would be sufficient) capabilities.
All in all, you can do the following to  simplify the workflow: before importing to iPhoto, run the ipadfix.py script to set the H.264 level to an iPad-compliant one. It's only after this that you should import the video to iPhoto. Then, iTunes will happily synch the file from iPhoto to the iPad.
Another option is the above-mentioned QT export, but, as I've pointed out, it WILL degrade the image quality as it, instead of changin a single descriptor byte in the file, recompresses(!) the entire thing.
In addition, also send a request to Apple to remove this absolutely unnecessary limitation, pointing out that a lot of cameras out there (most current Canon models) use H.264 level 5.0 by error, and Apple makes it impossible to synch the videos created by these cameras to iPads absolutely unnecessarily. (They don't allow to synch anything over level 4.1.)

  • Why won't iTunes U files sync with iPad?

I purchased free courses (videos) from iTunes U on my iMac, and when I go to sync with my iPad, it gives me an error message that says the files could not sync, iPad cannot read these files. I know it can, they are ".mov".
If I download them straight onto my iPad from iTunes U store, it works fine, until I go to sync after having purchased more of the videos from my iMac. Suddenly they all disapear and it says iPad cannot read the files.
If anyone could offer me some help, maybe this is a glitch with iTunes U?

  • Project File Sync with SharePoint online across time zones

We have a Project file that we have synced with an 0365 SharePoint site.  The project teams are working in US Central Time and Vladivostok Russia.  The original Project file is set up in Vladivostok time.  Users see the SharePoint Task Dates
in their local time.  However, when the project manager opens the file in Central Time Zone, the project file automatically reschedules start dates that are on Monday in Vladivostok (which start on Sunday in US Central Time) to non-weekend US Days and
then updates the SharePoint Tasks.  If the project manager in Vladivostok opens the file, more auto-scheduling occurs to move Start Dates to non-weekends in Vladivostok.
Is there anything we can do to avoid the auto-rescheduling based on the time zones that will not affect the file if we need to change the Start and Due Dates due to late starts?
    Kim Frehe

The level of sophistication that synchronizing to a SharePoint site is minimalistic. This is a very simple collaboration scheme. AFAIK, there is nothing you can do other than to all play in the same time zone, or at least pretend to by observing the offset.
For international collaboration, Project Online would be your best answer. I suggest that you request a 30-day trial, which you can obtain from a Gold partner such as my company.

  • Losing music and movies while syncing with the new itunes 7!

Several times I have lost my movies and music when I have connected my ipod and it synced with itunes. I synced earlier in the day (or the day before in other cases) and it worked fine. I didn't change any options on the ipod. After I lose the files I click on my ipod in itunes and the sync check boxes have been unchecked. when I recheck the sync boxes it will reload all of my stuff but it is a hassel, especially if i'm in a hurry. I never had this problem with the earlier version of itunes. What is making it lose the files when I sync?

Are you syncing it to more than one computer? If so it is operating normally. If you want to sync to more than one, you must opt to Manually manage your music. If you opt to do this, then be sure you have a backup of your music somewhere other than your iPod as you might have to restore it.

  • Exporting .mov file stretching out photos

I exported an h.264 mov file (from FCP06 sequence) of a wedding video that included still photos from the photographers and video from the video camera shot 4:3. The timeline looked fine but after using compressor to make the mov file, the photos appear stretched out. I guess this is a pixel thing. When I burn it to a DVD will it somehow fix itself? How should I import the photos into the timeline so that they will export at 4:3 looking correctly proportioned?

I am able to export one as a mpeg-4, but when I open the 2nd file, the export option is greyed out and I'm not able to export at all.
Not sure if you are outputting file directly from iPhoto or trying to convert an iPhoto shlideshow in QT at this point. If the former, then this would normally happen only when some other action is pending -- e.g., a modal box is already open. If the latter, then I have no idea and would likely need to see the source file causing problems.
The second file is larger than the first, but I'm not aware of any size restrictions. Are there?
Also don't believe current system has any such restrictions. Have personally worked with movies as long as 300 minutes and/or dozens of GBs in source length.
If not, what else should I be doing (I'm currently regenerating the 2nd .mov file to make sure that it wasn't corrupted, but it does play fine in Qtime).
Sounds like a good plan of action. If the same problem crops up, try creating a slide show using a sub-set of the photos. If problem continues and you are using a 2-stage (iPhoto to QT) process, try to post the sub-set to Internet so it can be evaluated.

  • File Sync with Cloud

I have tried everything, read through all documentation, checked, double checked all settings to no avail and resulting with no file sync.
I have just barely under the 20gig limit up on Creative Cloud, and I have been trying now for a few months to get the sync working,  I even tried moving the folder as on my drive it is empty and it then gives you an option to just download everything.
The only thing which could be in conflict is my 'standard download' is set to a different file on the same drive.
neither are on my boot drive which the original Creative Cloud was. It had to be moved, just not enough room on the boot drive.
I am running a win7, (all updates current) on a Gateway quad core (i5 intel graphics) 8gigs ram, 500gig HD, 1.3Terrabyte and 4 terrabyte external drives.
Comcast highspeed connection, and run Norton Security.
Any ideas, methods, spells? would be welcomed, I'm ready to try them.

There are numerous errors in your script, and it's a large script so there might be more, but these are the standouts for me:
    At line 48 you:
set fileName to get name of startFile
which is fair enough - you then use this to see if the file already exists in the destinationFolder. However, if it does the logic about how to deal with that is flawed.
At line 56 you catch the error:
on error errmess number errnum -- oops (should probably check for a specific error number)
                                                                                              log "Error " & errnum & " moving file: " & errmess
set newName to my getUniqueName(fileName, fakeTrash)
set name of fileName to "this is a unique name" -- or whatever
set name of fileName to newName
--Now move the renamed file to the fake trash
      move file fileName to fakeTrash
--now move the startfile to destination folder
      move file startFile to destinationFolder
                                                                                    end try
    so let's focus on that.
    56: catch the error
    57: log the error
58: generate a new unique filename
59: change the name of fileName to some other string
Hang on, wait a minute.... we already ascertained that at line 48 you defined fileName as a string object that indicates the name of the file. This is just a string. It's no longer associated with the original file... it's just a list of characters. Consequently you cannot set the 'name' of a string, hence your script is doomed to fail.
Instead, what I think you want to do is set the name of the startFile to the unique string. Files have filenames, and therefore you can set the name.
You have a similar problem on line 64 where you try to 'move file filename to fakeTrash'. fileName is just a string of characters. It isn't enough to identify a file - let's say the file name is 'some.psd'. You're asking AppleScript to move file some.psd to the trash. The question is which some.psd? The one on the desktop? in your home directory? maybe on the root of the volume? or maybe it should search your drive to find any/all files with that name? nope. None of the above. You can't just reference a file by name without identifying where that file is. So you probably want to 'move file fileName of destinationFolder...'
There may be other problems, but they're likely to be related - all issues with object classes (e.g. files vs. strings), or not being specific about which object you want.
As I said before, though, I might be way off - you don't say where the error is triggered to make it easy to narrow down the problem. Usually AppleScript will highlight the line that triggered an error. Knowing what that line is would help a lot.

  • Hello. I have some .mov files that I am able to open with Quick time on my pc but not on my mac. I even tried downloading quick time 7 but still no progress. Is there anything else I can do?

I can not open my.mov files on my mac. I would like too. I use to b able to look at them but for some reason i can not. I tried downloading quick time 7 but i have had no luck. Is there a way for me to open them? I just finished updating my system software so maybe that had something to do with it? Please help.

    drrbr1,
Mavericks changed how media was handled on OS X. Apple moved away from the old Quicktime frameworks (that were started in the 80's IIRC). Now the OS uses AVFramework. It is why Quicktime X (QTX) & Quicktime 7 (QT7) can play different formats.
QT7 used a series of codec plugins (encoder/ decoder) to add support for formats that Apple never supported (like DIVX, WMV, Ogg audio etc). Many users installed plugins like Perian to add these codecs via a simple installer. Perian may still work on QT7 apps, I haven't tested Perian on 10.10. Perian is clearly out of date & abandoned now, see perian.org or see the site of the old codec.
AVFoundation & QTX has no ability to add extra codecs - you get support because the format is correct for AVFoundation to play, you get a dialog that converts the movie or the third option is that AVFoundation can't convert & simply chokes & doesn't allow playback.
Apple have nothing to fix. The reason the movies don't play is because the new framework uses 64bit for everything. The older codecs are not 64bit & since Apple didn't write those codecs they won't fix them either. It may seem like I'm apologising for Apple, but it isn't entirely their fault, things move on.
I'm afraid you need to work out what codecs you have contained in the files (.mov is just a wrapper around the data - the codec is the key to reading the data). mediainfo can help with that
    https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo
It will list the details of the codecs - from there you need to find an app that will convert to a supported format.
It sounds like you have a sound format that is not compatible with AVFoundation - that means all apps the rely on AVfoundataion no longer play those files (Finder & iMovie use AVFoundataion).

  • Published a Mov File and I get a Quicktime Symbol with a ? What can i do?

I published a site with iWeb with a .Mov file in it about 20 seconds long. When it finished publishing, i checked out the website and instead of the video playing, i see a QUICKTIME symbol with a (?) question mark on it. what can i do to make this work. should i format the .Mov file to avi, mpeg-4 or another? help me guys, pls. thanks.

It's not an iWeb issue. Rather a QuickTime one.
Your original movie is 29,1MB (rather large for 20 seconds) and 960x540 pixels and Apple Intermediate Codec.
It is displayed on your webpage as 772x450 (not proportionally).
When I scale it to 800x450 (proportionally) and export it to QuickTime as h.264 and Faststart it only is 709kB.
About 1/40th. And hardly any noticeable loss of quality.
Lately there's an influx of videoprofessionals who have difficulty putting their movies on the web. Perhaps some masterclasses would be in order.
I'm not a professional, but I think I know a trick or two:

  • Why is an mov file showing up as a black screen with only audio?

I am importing a mov file into elements 11 and it is only showing up as a black screen with audio.  The clip will play in other programs on my computer but is not importing into elements 11.  The file was created on my panisonic camera.  I am pretty new to video editting and am quite frusterated.  I'm assuming it is some sort of codec issue but don't know how to proceed.  Thanks for any help.
