Mov files won't play in Quicktime?

Hi,
I have to cut some footage with Final Cut Pro. I used an G5 for that which worked fine. But I have to change to a MacBook Pro with Intel Core2 Duo now, because the G5 is to slow.
Sadly, the footage I have won't play with Quicktime and - of course - neither with Final Cut Pro on the Intel Mac. I just have the sound, but no video. Seems like a codec is missing. but when I download the codec it won't install because it seems to be already installed...
I don't know how the footage was captured, I assume with FCP though... Info says: "Apple Intermediate Codec".
I updated everything except "Compressor" because the update fails.
I use MacOS 10.6.2 with my old FinalCut Pro HD 4.5 (Rosetta). I have Perian installed.
What can I do?

This is a quick time Codec problem... I want nothing to do with FinalCut...
I have a series of videos from my wedding that I want to convert into some other format that can be edited in Premier.
The videos open in quicktime, but only give me audio and no video. VLC will wont even play them saying
"No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "icod". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."
Any ways, I opened them up in quicktime and get the properties of the videos
Video track - 27.58MB - Apple Intermediate Codec
Sound track - 531.72KB - Integer (Little Endian)
The file itself is 28MB, so I know the video is still in there somewhere.
If someone could please tell me how to convert these, I would be greatly appreciated. These are the only videos of my wedding, so I really need them to be saved.
Please email me if you might have any suggestions.
Thanks

  • .MOV file won't play in QuickTime Player? QT Components?

I have a bunch of .MOV clips on my hard drive that I'd like to ultimately import to Final Cut Express (4.0.1) to edit (my wedding video!!). If I double click on the clip, it automatically opens in QuickTime Player (7.6.9), and I then prompted to a QuickTime Components website. I'm not sure why the .MOV clips won't play, since I believe I have the latest version of QT. What should I do?
Additional information on the .MOVE files: original format is MPEG HD, dimensions: 1280 x 720, Codecs: XDCAM EX 720p30 (35 Mb/s VBR) Integer (Big Endian), Timecode
    Thank you for your help!

Upon further research, I found that a certain QT plug-in is required to use XDCAM EX footage in Final Cut Express, which can be found on this website:
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QXD.asp
I downloaded the demo, but have no idea how to use it to convert my files so FCE will accept it.  Is anyone familiar with this plug-in and what to do once it is downloaded?

  • After rendering as MOV, file won't play in Quicktime.

When I render files as MOVs or MP4s, the files will not play in Quicktime or VLC. When opened in Quicktime, a "Converting..." window pops up. After waiting for a long time, an error message shows up.
    Any suggestions?

Howdy Martin, it's a project to add the illusion of 3D to a 2D static photograph. You import a layered PSD with two layers - one monochromatic mask and the base photo. You add a displacement map to the image, tweak a few settings, add a keyframe to either end, chnage parameters and you're done. Like this After Effects TUTORIALS - How to Make 2d Image to 3D using Displacement Map (After Effects & Photoshop) - YouTube Should be relatively simple and is up to the point when I export and play it back!
Have rendered with AE directly as as well as AME.
It's odd as I've kept fiddling today and have managed to create a project that works and plays back then the next one does not, same everything! Arrrgh!
    Latest AE OS 10.9.5
thanks for taking an interest, I really need to nail this to develop the theory/concept I'm working on.

  • Mov file won't play in quicktime on pc only audio plays

How do I get my mov file to play in Quicktime? The audio plays but the image doesn't appear -- it is just black or white.  Thanks.  If I need a codec, how do I get it?  I am using a PC not a Mac.

Use the Movie Inspector window to find out what video codec was used and a search of the Web to find a valid version.

  • .mov files won't playback in quicktime 7.2 after archive and install

I just did an archive and install, because I was having a few problems with the Safari beta.
However since doing so it has been a complete nightmare. So many things stopped working. I'm guessing I had them installed on the system and not on my user.
So now after getting most thing back up and running, .mov files won't play in quicktime 7.2 an annoying 3ivx pop up appears which leads to a dead link.
So I checked the .mov format and they are 3ivx, but how do I install and from where do I get the codec??

    Perian

It's free and most people use this to play off the wall codecs...3ivx.
Please read the information on the web page on how to install and use. In the download there a help page.

  • After a itunes update my HDV mov files won't play on my mac.

I applied and update to my MacBook pro and BAM!! Now my HDV.mov files won't play with QuickTime or final cut pro. I'm in the middle of a project and I can't finish it because when the files play in fcp I get a error. Can anybody help me with this?

I have two anserws I think might work for you. The first one is: This solved the issue down loading and re-installing Quicktime 7.5.5
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/blog/posts/using_pacifist_to_downgrade_quicktime .html
I'd create a backup of the System / Components and Quicktime folders first though, just incase you need to revert back.
    and the 2nd one is:
I HAVE A FIX...AND IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!  Actually a friend found this fix somewhere else, but I just did it and it worked.  The only rub is you need to have access to another system that has not been updated to iTunes 10.5 or QT 7.7.
On the system that has not been updated, go to:
MAC HD/System/Library/Components and copy that folder to an external drive...next go to
MAC HD/System/Library/QuickTime and copy that folder to an external drive.
On the system that is not working, go to the same places on the MAC HD and delete those two folders.  Then copy the folders from your external drive to the same location.  Restart you system...i did it twice...and everything should be back to normal.  This has worked on both systems here that were previously jacked up.  If you do not have access to a system that was not messed up, let me know and maybe we can swap files.
I havent tried any of these yet because I'm in the middle of a project and I dont wnat anything to go wrong right now. After I'm done I will be sure to get started on one of these.
If you try any one of these let me know how it works out.

  • MOV files won't play on Windows computers

I have a number of MOV files (shot in full 1080 resolution) that won't play on a Windows PC. When I attempt to open them I get a warning stating that Quicktime may need extra files (or plugins?) in order to play the file. When I select the link it takes me to a page with all sorts of other providers such as DivX. With that said, what is the best format to enable smooth playback on a Windows machine?

I am in the same boat. I need to view AVCHD files that were converted to .mov by iMovie on a PC.
I think it is mainly because iMovie isn't really compatible with AVCHD so it converts it to .mov.
But it is not a normal .mov!
Apple loves to help you go from PC to MAC but when you try to go back again, God help you.
I refused to pay the price for a new MacBook so bought a core i7 laptop for less than the cheapest MacBook(white)!
I am starting to believe that Apple suck!
Don't even get me started on the iPhoto and iTunes issues to change back!

  • HDV4 in a .mov file won't play back using any software

    Issue:
I had 4 DVDs sent to me containing a bunch of .mov files that won't play back in any of the following apps:
QuickTime 7 Pro (includes Mpeg2 codec from Apple's Web site) - sends me to Apple.com's QT plugins page
Mpeg Streamclip - loads only some on batch import, but mostly displays white and plays the audio
HandBrake - Says not a valid source
VLC Player - error says that HDV4 files cannot be played
QuickTime Player - says format isn't a format that QT recognizes
I need to get this into a format usable by FCE.  I'm running the most up-to-date 10.6 Snow Leopard, and the last version of FCE.  How can I do this without losing my current version of iTunes or Final Cut Express?
    Vent:
As videographers gradually move to hard-drive based cameras, their ability to submit their footage becomes more and more difficult.  As a result, we get DVDs, flash drives, 64 GB memory sticks, and more.  It seems like each one uses a different file format, and every format is proprietary.  Where is a standards committee when you need one?  Where is the open-source format?

  • .MOV file won't open in quicktime

    I have a Macbook Air OS 10 version 10.7.2 , Processor 1.68 ghz intel core i5, memory is 4gb 1333 mhz ddr3.
When i drag the .mov quicktime movie file into quicktime player i get this error message: "The document could not be opened. the movie's file format isn't recognized."
What do i need to download to make quicktime play this .mov file?
    thanks!

Quicktime isnt a very good movie player.  At all.  If the file isnt corrupted, and is actually a valid file, then I would download and use VLC Player.  It plays nearly every format of video file, and is completely FREE.  It IS possible however, that the file you are trying to play is damaged in some way, and wont be played by VLC either.  If VLC wont play it, the file is no good.

  • .mov file won't play on windows URL

I have uploaded several .mov files to my ftp site. I saved the movie to play when opened up and to go to full screen. I then open up quicktime on my mac and type in my URL address into the URL function in quicktime. On my mac it opens and plays immediately. Now I try to do the same thing on a Windows XP machine and it just sits there for ever and then if I am lucky it starts playing, maybe ten minutes later.
I have also done some files that are very very small, seem to play when opened on a windows after a short time but never goes full screen. Works on my macs but not on my PC's. Anyone have any idea of why this doesn't work the same?
    Thanks in advance

Here ya go. It's a large file but it plays within a few seconds on my mac with so so dsl. On the PC it took about five minutes to start playing.

  • QT 7 .mov file won't play

    Hi,
I wonder if any one can help.
I have been able to play a selection of qt movies on another computer (at work) - so I know they work. However, they won't play on my laptop!
Since they won't open in QT, I cant tell what format (codec) they are using. They won't open in Media player or VLC. I'm quite stuck. Anyone, any suggestions?
I am running QT7.1 (full version)
    Installed codecs:
    3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OSX
    AC3 Codec.component
    AppleIntermediateCodec.component
    DivX 6 Decoder.component
    DivX 6 Encoder.component
    DVCPROHDCodec.component
    EyeTV MPEG Support.component
    FCP Uncompressed 422.component
    Flip4Mac WMV Export.component
    Flip4Mac WMV Import.component
    FLV.component
    LiveType.component
    XVIDDelegate

    Hi,
are you suggesting that there could be a conflict with the components (like the old extension conflicts!). I've tried removing them, and then adding them one by one.
The file doesn't open at all.
Two files have come from the same person. One opens, the other doesn't - at all. The one that does under format says N/A. If I try to open the problem one in VLC it says "mp4: MP4 plugin discarded (no moov box)". I don't know if this is related or is a red herring.
No the files aren't online. These are student projects.
Thanks for thinking around this with me.

  • MPEG-4 video files won't play in Quicktime

I bought movies on iTunes and I can only watch them on my iPod. I can't view the movies with Quicktime or with iTunes. The movies are MPEG-4 video files. Any suggestions? I can't figure it out.

I solved my problem with MP4 and MOV files not playing on my Windows XP Pro PC.
Short solution: Reinstall latest NVIDIA driver from NVIDIA not Microsoft.
A few days ago, I decided to rebuild my PC from scratch, after deciding to change from Norton to McAfee for performance reasons. I reinstalled Windows XP Pro from the installation disks and performed Microsoft Update to bring it up to current. I then manually installed all optional software and hardware "updates". Installing the optional video driver turned out to be the cause of the problem, but I did not know it then. It was a very obsolete driver - NVidia Corportation – Video – NVIDIA GeForce 3 Ti200 released on July 28, 2003
I downloaded and installed Quicktime with iTunes which installed QuickTime 7.4.1 and iTunes 7.6.0.29. Neither would play MP4 or even MOV files. I got garbled, scrambled, blocks of colored video. Audio would play OK.
A re-install of QuickTime did not help and both products said they were up to date.
A temporary quick-fix was to uncheck DirectX - Enable Direct3D Video accelleration in QuickTime-Edit-Preferences-QuickTime Preferences-Advanced, or select Safe Mode (GDI only).
The permanent fix was to update the video drivers and NOT use the Microsoft supplied update. I went to www.nvidia.com, selected "support" on the taskbar, clicked "download drivers", entered product type=Legacy and GeForce3 Series and Windows XP and clicked Search. That found ForceWare Release 90 version 93.71 dated Nov 2, 2006. It supports a huge number of NVidia cards. I downloaded it and installed it and everything worked after that.
To prevent Microsoft Update from re-installing the Optional Hardware video driver, run Microsoft Update manually (e.g. from IE-Tools-Windows Update) click "Custom", select Optional Hardware, Expand the NVidia Corportation – Video – NVIDIA GeForce 3 Ti200 released on July 28, 2003 and check "Don't show this update again". Then close Microsoft Update. (while you are at it, do the same for the optional audio update. That really messed up my system)
I hope this helps at least a few people. Good luck.

  • Recovered .mov files won't play in QT.

Anyone out there please feel free to chime in.
Let me start with....the install and upgrade of iPhoto 11 caused me great emotional upset. I had just filmed a wedding, wanted to use the new trailer feature on imovie, thought all my files had been backed up on external drives (they were not) long story short, I lost valuable movies. I used Disk Doctor and recovered quite a few files, got a lot of jpegs back, got large .mov files back but when I went to play them I get this error message:
The document “file23.mov” could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands.
I tried changing the file extensions, I even believe I tried converting to mpeg 4 and if memory serves, that did not work either.
    Anyone have a possible fix?
    Thanks in advance.

This is a quick time Codec problem... I want nothing to do with FinalCut...
I have a series of videos from my wedding that I want to convert into some other format that can be edited in Premier.

  • .m4v files won't play in QuickTime from hard drive

hi, downloaded tv series from iTunes (.m4v files). When I go to iTunes Media and click on one of the shows it opens QuickTime and a grey and white checkerboard screen appears and nothing else. Can stream the shows direct from iTunes but that adds to download quota and want to play the downloaded version on my hard drive using Apple TV. Thanks if you can help. Downloaded Perian and didn't help

The correct way to stream purchased content from iTunes to the AppleTV is using Home Sharing NOT Airplay mirroring which I think you are attempting here.
Enable Home Sharing in iTunes and on AppleTV (under Computers).
Provided your iTunes is running on the same LAN as AppleTV you can go to Computers and selecting TV Shows/Movies etc from there plays across the LAN not the internet.
It is the main Movies/TV Shows/Music icons that play previously downloaded content from the internet/cloud - Computers icon pulls locally stored iTunes content across the LAN not the internet.
