.MOV IMPORT STILL NEEDS RENDERING?

Working with project shot in hdv and tried importing a .mov file (from google earth).
Two problems:
1. Needs render and takes very long time to do it.
2. Once rendered and viewable, if clip is moved in timeline it needs to re-render.
I'm trying to match 'item properties' before importing, but my copy of AVCware doesn't have the right parameters.
Am I doing something wrong, or do I need some other type of conversion software?
thanks!

1. Needs render and takes very long time to do it.
That's because your clip settings is not matching the sequence settings.
2. Once rendered and viewable, if clip is moved in timeline it needs to re-render.
Again, That's because your clip settings is not matching the sequence settings.
Convert the material into an editing codec like ProRes or DV. Then create a sequence with same settings and the problem will be solved.

  • Sequence matches clip, but still needs rendering.... what am I doing wrong?

Ok, I've spent HOURS tweaking these settings, and I can't figure it out.
I have files from a Flip Cam that I converted using to a .mov file using MPEG Straemclip with the following settings:
    1280x720
    16:9 Anamorphic
    29.97 fps
    Compression: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
    Field Dominance - None
I'm using FCP 5.1.4, and I'm almost positive that my sequence settings match perfectly. The audio is not an issue - it's working fine. But the video refuses to work properly, and it constantly needs rendering. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Anything new I can check?
Thanks in advance. I'm pulling my hair out.

DV/DVCPRO and 1280x720...those are incompatible. DV is a 720x480 format. 1280x720 is HD, and typically is either DVCPRO HD, HDV or ProRes.
You exported incorrectly from MPEG STREAMCLIP. You need to export out as DVCPRO HD if you are using FCP 5.1. Or Apple Intermediate Codec.

  • Importing Video - needs rendering

This may have been asked, so I'm sorry if I'm bringing up a constantly asked question. If I am (which I probably am) then could anyone direct me to a link instead of having to answer this questions?
I am importing a video into the program and when I put it in the time line the red bar appears above it indicating it is not rendered. Is there any way I can set it to automatically render when I drag n' drop it in?
    thanks.

You should convert your iSight video to DV-NTSC format before bringing it into FCE. There's a free utility called MPEG Streamclip (http://www.squared5.com/) which can do the conversion. Open your iSight video in Streamclip, then export to QuickTime using the DV-NTSC settings:
    Compression Apple DV/DVCPRO-NTSC
Sound @48kHz (or 32kHz, depending on your Easy Setup)
    Frame Rate 29.97
You may also need the QuickTime MPEG Playback Component if you don't have it, a $20 download from Apple. (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/) I don't think you need this, as I believe it's only necessary to deal with MPEG2 content.

  • Import settings needed for importing AVI and DVD into a DV project (FCE)

I'm new to FCE but have come from an Adobe Premiere background and I'm struggling a bit as I have a project that is half complete and I have exported from (windows) Premiere as an AVI (which I know I will have to put through Streamclip - btw couldn't export to quicktime for some reason). The rest will be mainly from DV camera and a small amount ripped from DVD using Aimersoft's dvd ripper. The problem is that I am trying to put it all in the same format so that the project runs smoothly but also keeping the number of conversions to a minimum. I am having trouble matching them all up and am using DV Pal as my main format.
    I have 3 main queries:
    1) When I import from DV camera it appears to convert it to a .MOV format (it lists that as a quicktime movie) using a DVC-PAL Codec, is this right?
    2) I have imported my half complete AVI project through streamclip as a DV (DV25) PAL 720x576 16:9 clip but it needs rendering (it does play on the canvas though)...is there something I've missed?
    3) I am trying to import the dvd parts through Aimersoft DVD Ripper and there seems to be no option for DV Pal. Do I need to import into another format and then use streamclip (once I get it working properly)? Or should I use another compatible app?
I have looked at handbrake but this seems to not support any of my needs for now. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

    Hi David,
Thanks for your help. I do have a few more queries if anyone can help. I've overcome the issue of transferring mid project by writing the project back to tape which seems to work well. I am having a problem importing from DVD now though using streamclip, I have imported it to the MAC no problem at all. However the project is a DV (PAL) Anamorphic project and despite importing the dvd at 720X576 (Unscaled and DVPAL settings both at 4:3 and 16:9) the clips still need rendering. I have further tapes to import which are anamorphic so need to keep the project settings as they are. I feel I am so near yet so far!

  • Stills not rendering

When I added the stills to 'Stage 1' project, they showed in the sequence with red bars over them, (opposed to the video clips which are yellow) and I'm assuming means they're not rendered? Why wouldn't they be? When I opened 'Stage 2' it showed the same thing, stills red/video yellow. I'm guessing it's my settings or something.. any help in regards to why this might be or how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

    jacqi_jones,
The imported stills need to be rendered because they (most likely) have a much higher resolution than the video footage and, therefore, sequence setting. I think one's system RAM and memory usage settings can determine what Premiere Pro needs to render after import, but I'm not sure. Anyway, it's not a big deal to simply render the sequence after importing still images. Some things to help you out:
This Help document discusses ways to prepare images for importing to minimize render time: Importing still images
This forum post covers the issue of resizing the imported stills for this tutorial so that they appear fully, not cropped: Sizing JPEGs
This video tutorial discusses: Why is there a red or yellow bar in my sequence?
For what it's worth, the red render bars appear when I open the Stage 2 file too:
    Hope this helps!

  • When I import a Quick Time movie into the timeline using Final Cut Express, why does it need rendering?

when I import a Quick Time movie into the timeline using Final Cut Express, why does it need rendering?

Because your clip properties do not match your sequence settings.
It will help a lot if you provide details ...
    FCE Easy Setup
Sequence settings (vid rate, frame size, compressor)
Source of your clips (camcorder make/model, etc)
Clip properties (vid rate, frame size, compressor)

  • NEED HELP FAST!! Importing stills into FCP 6

    Hello everyone,
I have tried searching for a bit, but time is of the absolute essence. I am down to the wire on a project, and need to do some finishing things.
What I need to do is to import still images (from DSLR) into an HD timeline. I am working in an HDV 1080i60 sequence at 29.97 fps. Here is what I am doing...
    - Import the particular image
    - Everything looks fine in the viewer when I double click on it
    - When I take it to the timeline though and open it in the canvas, it looks like absolute sh**. The colors look fine I suppose, but it looks incredibly pixelated.
I have tried exporting the video, thinking that it might just be in the canvas, but that didn't fix anything.
So, it is not a problem with rendering, as some have said where I have searched... It could be a problem with size, but I am not sure.
If anyone knows anything, please post in here or PM me asap. Thank you for your help in advance.
    Cheers,
    Ryan

When you load an image or clip from the Browser into the Viewer, it is displayed at it's native resolution. But once you place it in the Timeline, it displays at the FCP Sequence resolution. Also note that the image will need to be rendered FULLY before viewing. Go to the Sequence->Render menus and make sure all render types are checked ... especially FULL.
Also keep in mind that FCP's Canvas window only shows a proxy of full quality.

  • Do I still need 3 versions of each movie 1) Computer 2) Apple TV 3) iPod?

Not sure the best format to import movies into iTunes (not from the store) but do I still need to have a version for
    1) The computer
    2) Apple TV
    3) iPod
and is there a way to sort or filter these 3 types in iTunes or Apple TV?
       Dave

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.
Netflix uses an adaptive format, i.e. it varies it's quality according to connection speed and can go as low as 0.5 Mbps, although it won't look too good.
    You have two options:
You can download to iTunes on your computer, it likely won't download any quicker, but it will stay there and so don't need to worry about stopping the movie in the middle (movies downloaded to the computer will need to be fully downloaded before they will stream to the Apple TV).
You could also switch to SD (settings > general > iTunes Store), your movies will download more quickly if you do this.

  • Sound import to 25 fps sequence is always out of sync and need rendering!!!

Anyone know why an aif sound file from Pro Tools imported to 25 fps sequence is always out of sync and needs rendering? It is like FCP is converting it to another freq. when it is 48k already! I do this all the time with NTSC and 23.98 projects, what is up with the 25 frame seq.??
    Thanks, Mark

Your audio files must be 48,000 kHz AIFF files if you want to use them in Final Cut Pro.
If the originals are coming from CD's they are 44,100 kHz.
Resample in Soundtrack Pro or convert in QuickTime Player.
Your location says you are in LA. Why are you working in in PAL?
I know that things need to be at 48K this would not matter anyway if it was 44.1 FCP would do the conversion and not make it out of sync in an NTSC Timeline, but a PAL timeline FCP screws with the sound file. The files came from pro Tools, the industry standard should mixing.
I put them through Sound Track Pro and it did not help.

  • I have converted m2ts files to .mov to edit in FCE (4.0.1) When I drag the clips into the timeline they need rendering, as much as a minute for a 30 sec. clip. Is this normal? I am using OS 10 . My easy setup is apple intermediate codec, 720p30. Any help

I have converted m2ts files to .mov in streamclip,  for editing in fce 4.0.1. When I drag them into the fce timeline the clips need rendering, as much as a minute for a 30 second clip. Is this normal? My OS is 10.6.8. My easy setup in fce is apple intermediate codec 720p30. Any advice to avoid the rendereng would be helpful. Ann

To what codec, frame size & frame rate did you convert the files in Streamclip?
If it isn't AIC 720p30, you'll need to render.

  • Does JMF still need QTime for .mov files ?

    Hello,
My question may look stupid, but I have read the JMF supports the .mov format QTime). Does this mean that I does not need QT (or ITunes) anymore, or is it still needed ?
Before I was using the Java QTime Interface API. Is JMF just an alternative to this API ? Or is it a complete replacement.
In fact, I'm in the process of migrating applications from Windows to Linux, and there is no QT or ITunes in this environment. So, I'm looking for a solution.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Gege

My question may look stupid, but I have read the JMF supports the .mov format QTime).Yes, it does.
Does this mean that I does not need QT (or ITunes) anymore, or is it still needed ?JMF has its own codecs, renderers, etc. for .mov format, so it does not need anything additional to play the file. (see this to know all supported formats for all platforms in JMF)
Before I was using the Java QTime Interface API. Is JMF just an alternative to this API ? Or is it a complete replacement. I can't say anything about this, I have no idea about the api you are mentioning.
    Thanks!

  • HT4112 how does one navigate with out the use of a mouse? do we still need to use finger to move to different things?

how does one navigate the keyboard without a mouse. Do we still use finger to move from place to place?

Yes you still need to use your finger to do all of the things that you need to use it for even if you use a wireless keyboard. You are merely adding a larger more robust keyboard to the device. You are not replacing the touch gestures features with the use of an external keyboard.

  • HD Clips ALWAYS need rendering when imported??

I am shooting 1280x720 30fps HD on a SANYO Xacti camera. They are shot in mP4 format. I believe I need to convert them PRIOR to importing them into FC Studio. Any suggestions on settings using Compressor?? Or what settings in FCP?? I can preview the clips from the card by selecting the icon and pressing the space bar. Plays beautifully. However, when I import them into FCP I drag them to the timeline and the audio is RED and needs rendering. No biggy. However, when I add camera two footage BOTH audio and video are RED. 5 HOURS!! to render before editing. HELP! I am shooting using H.264 - my FCP settings are Apple ProRes 422 1280x720 30fps 48kHz. and H.264

Your footage is H.264...A non-native editing codec with FCP. This won't work without rendering as your sequence settings differ from your footage. Either convert to ProRes before editing (highly preferred), or make custom settings with H.264 (possible, but not the best way to go).

  • I don't use my mac email.  I view my webmail thru mail though  Do I still need to move to icloud?

If I am viewing my webmail thru Mail and not using my Mac Mail acct, do I still need to move to iCloud?

iCloud is free providing you require no more than 5 GB of storage, which for a mail account only is more than ample.
You do not actually need to update from OS X 10.5.8 in order to use iCloud for mail only. You could simply migrate from your MobileMe account at Move
If you did wish to update your operating system you would need to purchase a copy of Snow Leopard on disk and install it on your computer, update it to the latest version of Snow Leopard, then purchase lion from the Mac App Store (The Mac App Store is installed when you update to OS X 10.6.8)
Whilst I am aware that you wish to read your mail through a web browser interface, there is no reason that you cannot read iCloud mail from the mail application on OS X 10.5.8.

  • AVI files need rendering

I've recently been given the task of preparing six hours of short video clips for a foreign language class learning to use some editing programs, iMovie will not work because of the time it takes to import the clips, but final cut is having a problem too. They are all avi files and it seems no matter what easy setup I use the clips always must be rendered as soon as I bring them down onto the timeline. This is a big frustration for students who are not very familiar with the program. I do have the entire final cut studio 2 at my disposal and I was wondering if there was any conversions I could make in Compressor or any other specific settings I should be using in Final Cut Pro to get this to run more smoothly. When I drop the files down onto the timeline it does ask me if I want to change the settings but when I click OK it still needs to render on the timeline. Any advice is helpful, thank you.

    any ideas?
Please offer up more information. The more you give us, the quicker we can offer a real solution instead of playing 20 questions ...
    • What EXACTLY is the codec the avi files use?
    • What are the compressor settings?
    • What are the error messages?
A simpler way to go is if you have access to a PC, use it (with QT pro installed on it) to convert the AVI to a QT mov with the dv/ntsc codec.
