MOV to DVD editing in premiere and encore
Hi.. Sometime ago I bought a digital still camera which can also shoot 640x480 30fps quicktime mov files.
To edit, combine and share the videos I am planning to write them in dvd with premiere pro cs3 and encore cs3. Although I have learned some about these programs I dont know some important preferences of exporting.
Could someone please answer these questions so I know what I am doing...
1. When starting a new project or exporting to encore to make mpeg-2 DVD what should I select in field order...Lower, upper or no fields (progressive scan)?
2. Likewise is my source video coming from camera as quicktime mov interlaced or non-interlaced? If it is non-interlaced it would be ridiculous to de-interlace, right? Although I used gspot to understand that I couldnt get any information about that issue
3. When I compare my source movie and output DVD I find that quicktime movie is a little bit sharper than DVD output in my computer. Is this normal or should I sharpen it a little in premiere pro before outputting to encore?
4. As I can edit in premiere and export as mpeg-2 I dont need any other quicktime codec, do I?
This is the result I got from gspot

Thanks for the replies.
Your camera is not suited for video editing. Either use a proper video camera or use a different application.
1. Lower.
2. Depends on your camera.
3. Likely to happen. GIGO, garbage in, garbage out.
4. No.

Best workflow between Premiere and Encore for subtitling...
Hello All,
I switched from FCP and DVDS Pro to Premiere and Encore but having trouble to get the same workflow for the type of work we do here,
We deal with lots of foreign films that will be distributed on DVDs and streamed via places like Xbox, PSN and such.
We tried by starting by laying the final edit of the film in Premiere and placing subs. We found out that there was no easy way to export the video track as an stl or compatible format so we outputted the film and used subrip to create an srt which worked ok when we brought it over to DVDSP but subrip always generates lots of bad text which has to be manually fixed. I than decided lets try Encore cause it must be more compatible with Premiere for transferring info between the two but have not found a good way to do this yet.
What would be the best work flow between the two programs so you can create a DVD with subs and also have movie with a sub track that can be outputted for VOD besides having to do the work twice? I am sure many production houses have this need.
Thank you all for reading and look forward to some ideas. We are using CS6.
-johnTo the best of my knowledge, you will have to use a non-Adobe app for creating the subtitle file. Once created, you'd bring that into Encore for disk creation. I'm not sure you can create a file for VOD with subtitles using Adobe tools. Encore can create Flash output, but that's probably not the best choice here.

Premiere and Encore CS4 crashes and issues on Toshiba Laptop
I have a Toshiba Qosmino Laptop, 4 GB ram, Windows XP Sev pac 3, Nvida Gforce 7300 video. new 7500 RPM Hard drive
The two programs that crash all the time are Premiere and Encore CS4
Premiere will start some times and sometimes not. I've tried a new projects, importing a CS3 project seems to make no difference. Takes approx 2-3 minuites to load. Click on a imported video clip or timeline and crash.
Encore crashes "EVERYTIME"... tried to import from Premiere into Encore.. when the timeline is clicked in Encore it crashes everytime. Tried a new project in Encore same problem. Started Encore alone and same problem... first click and crash.
I'm not getting a blue screen just the Adobe crash report screen asking me to send a report... have done that many times.
Things that I have tried:
Had CS3 (BTY it ran fine)
Uninstalled CS3 and uninstalled CS4. Reinstalled CS4 same problems.
Defrag hard drive....
Reinstall CS4
Updated video drivers to latest version
Reloaded older video drivers
Did MSCONFIG and stropped all unneeded processes
All the rest of the CS4 programs open and run fine.
Any help is appreciated!!Sounds like a problematic video driver or codec issue. You need to update all your drivers and try again. Also get rid of any unnecessary codecs. Try opening files in various formats and see if the same happens. Also you should search the KnowledgeBase, it contains a lot of information about this kind of problem.
If all fails, call Adobe Tech Support... -
CS4 Program crashes Premiere and Encore ALL the time
I have a Toshiba Qosmino with T2400 running at 1.83 Ghz, 4 GB ram at 1.83 Ghz, Windows XP Sev pac 3...Nvida Gforce 7300 video. no viris programs running. Do have approx 51 processes running. Have tried to shut down all possible process and same crashes.
The two programs that crash all the time are Premiere and Encore CS4
Premiere will start some times and sometimes not. One interesting point it seems to open with less crashes when other programs are running i.e Outlook, strange..... I've tried a new project, importing a CS3 project seems to make no difference.
Encore crashes "EVERYTIME"... tried to import from Premier into Encore.. when the timeline is clicked in Encore it crashes. Tried a new project in Encore same problem.
I have uninstalled CS3 and uninstalled CS4. Reinstalled CS4 same problems.
All the rest of the programs open and run fine....
any suggestions.... thanks!Hi,
The Graphics card is crashing, but no idea what the cause may be.

Adobe premiere and encore dynamic link
When I tried to go from Adobe Premiere 5.5 to Encore by Dynamic Link from Premiere to Encore I found it NOT Working and
Also in Encore when I go File> Adobe Dynamic Link > Import Premiere Sequence it does not work?Hi Stan,
Thank you very much for your help and quick reply and I have to buy you a free drink now. Ha…Ha….
I spent about 6 hrs. try to searching for the fix but I could not find anything except a few people stated that you could fix this Dynamic Link by going to help/deactivate the activate but I did not to try it
Encase I lose all Premiere. Do you think it will work?
The problem started after I had chat with Adobe support team to help me to reinstall Production Premium and after that the link did not work.
On my user account in premiere when I click on DL it does nothing and in Encore when I try to import the sequence I can see the window with disk activity but I cannot select any item.
I can open premiere and encore separately but I cannot link them?
I create a new user account and also I cannot send Premiere project to Encore But I can import Premiere’s sequence without any problem?
Any Idea how to fix this by repair not by uninstall because I had a lot of problem when I had to reinstall them. Is easy to repair them?
You also stated to me it is better to export from premiere to Encore directly without losing any quality, What is the best setting for this and I will buy 2 drinks.
Thank you again. -
CS4 Premiere (and Encore) crash on opening with blue screen
I have been having a terrible time with CS4 Premiere Pro crashes over the last month or so. Initially PP would just disappear from the screen as it was opening up, and if it didn't crash it was quite often after the Matrox RT.X2 logo came up after selecting the project to open. I had less problems starting a new project than opening a previous one. Sometimes it would open and crash during the work process without warning...forcing me to save after every change. Then it got worse.
I looked to the Adobe CS4 bulletin on crashes and it was suggested to update drivers. The first driver I looked at needed an update (Nvidia Quadro FX1500 256 MB) so I had their download service do the work and installing. During the process it stopped with 'Nvidia display pannel extension cannot install due to a version mismatch. Resetting the display drives may solve this problem' without any suggestions on how to do that. I have 2 Dell 24" monitors slightly different from each other but worked great before all this.
From this point everything got even worse. System Restore to the previous day did nothing. Everytime I tried to open Premiere (or Encore) the whole computer crashed (blue screen) and restarted automatically. I can no longer play any video without crashing -- not an AVI, MOV, WMV, etc. Not even a finished DVD will play on the computer now.
I have the latest versions updates of Premiere Pro 4.2.1 as well as the Matrox RT.X2 tools.
While the Nvidia driver update situation made the situation worse, I was having problems with Premiere Pro CS4 way before this with 'instant' crashes and no warnings. Strange that Photoshop CS4 works just fine as this has evolved into a video problem...and I need your help to get PP running again.
I'm not a techie so please reply in novice language. When CS4 came out it took Matrox quite a while to get off 'beta' tools upgrade so I waited until it was off beta (April 2010) and had my computer hardware expert upgrade my computer with CS4 and the new Matrox install -- way too technical for me to do. It worked great...until about a month ago when all this started.
I don't think the equipment I have now on my 2006 computer would work with CS5 - maybe you can look below and tell me.
For reference, here is my equipment: XP Professional SP 3; AMD Athlon 64 x 2 dual core processor; 4800+ 2.41 GHz, 3.25 GB RAM; Nvidia Quadro FX1500 256MB; 2 Dell monitors - 2407WFP and ST2410; Matrox RT.X2; 2TB WE Raid Edition SATA 16MB; Blu-Ray burner BDR-2058BK; Pioneer 111 Dual Layer DVD Rewrite Burner; Sound Blaster Audigy4 24 Bit; Built in FD controller 2 IDE on the main board.
BrianThanks harm for your suggestions but I'm lost. I am not a techie. Went to your thread on building a new computer and it was way way over my head...so I'm back here asking for your suggestions as I couldn't even figure out how to copy/paste my equipment listed above and post this message there instead.
Took my box back to the vendor who put it together for me in 2006 for $6000 and he's going to try and get it up and running again for me. I told him about your recommendation to lose the Matrox and he doesn't think it's the problem if I want fast rendering, etc. He says he's used RT.X2 in a ton of systems he's put together and work just fine. He's going to try getting my present computer running, first of all without any new additions and then make suggestions. It ran beautifully under CS2, so much so I skipped CS3 and was very late adding on CS4 ... and that's when the problems started. Perhaps CS4 was just too demanding for my 2006 equipment...which probably means CS5 is even more demanding.
So....two questions:
1. If I upgrade what I've got, where do I start? Or is it worth upgrading or better to start brand new (budget problems no doubt)
2. If I start brand new, what do I put in the new box? I looked at your 3 different cost areas and the budget config is probably not what I need but warrior level too high. Even the middle road you recommened looks a little low for what I want to do making BR disks, but you would know.
I assume some of the current equipment I've got could still be used, perhaps even the Matrox if that keeps costs down by not having to replace it with something else. There is a new C drive for my programs and a new 2TB internal hard drive for files (which I mirror backup to an external 2TB drive).
Could you make some build recommendations that I could give to my vendor? Many thanks.
Brian
ps...how do you copy/paste on this forum? -
Broken Links between Premiere and Encore
OK, Here goes. I'm running CS4 with all of the latest updates (no beta versions here).
I tranfer a video sequence from premiere to encore, which work just fine.
I build my dvd project and when done for the day, I shut down my system for startup the next day.
The next day when I startup the system and open both Premiere & encore, the files
are still linked (verified by the pink timeline in encore) but when I make a change to
the sequence in Premiere, none of the changes show up in Encore. So in fact, the two
are no longer linked once you either shutdown the system system or exit the program
(I tried both examples).
SO, does anyone know who to re-establish the links to be active and not passive?
If it's linked, it should stay linked!
Jeff Bellume, any ideas?
Thanks!Jeff,
Thanks and sorry for my typing. After 20 straight hours at the computer both my sight and my typing is a little out of sync.
I ran a spell checker but it didn't pick up the error in the spelling of your last name.
But while we're here, why doesn't any of the chapter markers created in premiere show up in Encore when you use the
Adobe Media Encoder. It worked perfectly in CS4 but doesn't seem to work in CS4. Premiere creates the files (xmpes & xmp)
but nothing appears (chapter markets & metadata) upon importing them into Encore.
Is there some hidden switch that I haven't tuned on in premiere ?
Please advise. -
Canon 7D MOV files = horrible editing in Premiere Pro CS4?
Hi All,
I just got Premiere Pro CS4 in the mail today. I was so excited to start cutting up my Canon 7D MOV files but it seems the MOV files play horribly in Premiere.
I looked around a little on the forum and found some others feel the same way (as well as the 5D users).
Surely I won't have to use quicktime to preview my videos. The previewer in Premiere can barely play the files.
So, what is everybody doing these days to get a smoother work flow?
I don't want to have to do a lot of pre-editing (didn't Adobe think of this before claiming it's compatible with Canon 7D/5D files?)
Also, when starting a NEW SEQUENCE, what PRESETS should I use? I record in 60fps. So AVCHD 1080i30 (60i) Anamorphic?? (what a long name!)
HELP ME!!Hey Jeff,
Here is that link I read it from...
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/500152
Yeah, "technically supports" is giving me a headache. I've spent my night and morning trying to find the best solution and it seems very scattered on the web.
So far the best is this blog about the "complete idiots guide to Canon 5D and PrPRO CS4..." (note the link doesn't go straight to blog... look on the right side and click the link)
http://www.crookedpathfilms.com/blogframe.html
I didn't want to go the FCP route but I think I made a mistake buying CS4 last minute. You know what sucks? Yesterday as I'm installing Premiere Pro CS4 I'm checking my email and I see the news about the April launch of CS5 and how greatly improved PrPro CS5 is. Oops. -
Computer CONSTANTLY restarts while editing with premiere and after effects
Whenever i edit in premiere or after effects, my computer will always just randomly restart. It normally does it more in after effects than premiere, but lately, it has been doing it a lot in premiere, sometimes as much as every 15 minutes. Here are my specs:
Windows 7 64 Bit
i7 Processor
12GB Ram
4tb Raid system
NVIDA GEFORCE video card
800 watt power supply
3ghz speed
Does anyone know what the problem could be? I have been told that it could be the video card before, but I highly doubt that my video card is not sufficient enough for basic video editing on premiere, as I know many people who have worse video cards that edit with no problem. Please help! Here is all the information about my computer:

Problems reinstalling Premiere and Encore CS3
Using Vista 64,I had the problem of losing my 3 optical drives (2 DVD and 1 Blu-Ray) two days ago.(The problem with the drivers not being available).Despite trying the regedit fix (upper and lower filter removal),they still did not work and I could not use the repair option on the installer DVD for obvious reasons. So a fresh install was carried out, everything I had on the computer before the re-install has loaded and is working fine, except Premiere Pro CS3 and Encore CS3.I can load the third party content on the Premiere disc and the codecs and the library on the Encore disc but NOT the main programmes.Anybody know of a workaround?.
The Vista 64 is an upgrade from XP professional and the Premiere CS3 an upgrade from Premiere 6.5.Both applications worked fine until my optical drive problem.Any help or advice appreciated.
Mike WebbSounds like a problematic video driver or codec issue. You need to update all your drivers and try again. Also get rid of any unnecessary codecs. Try opening files in various formats and see if the same happens. Also you should search the KnowledgeBase, it contains a lot of information about this kind of problem.
If all fails, call Adobe Tech Support... -
HELP - Choose mid specs laptop for video editing in Premiere and After Effects
Hello there,
Basically I have DSLR Camera (Canon 600D) which I use to film in Full HD (1080P 50fps) for my movies (short plays and medium plays).
So, I am thinking to buy a laptop with main porpouse to edit my videos in Premiere CS6 and After Effects CS6 and I would like to ask you guys if you can help me choose one. Maximum I could spend is 1000€.
So, I don't care how much time my laptop will take to export movies, but what is most important to me is smooth editing ( fast pre-rendering). I know that pre-render / in software render uses Nvidia CUDA cores to acelerate the process.
I choosed these two laptops:
ASUS K750JB:
Intel i7 4700HQ 2.4 - 3.4GhZ
12GB RAM 1600mHz
Nvidia GT 740M 2GB DDR3 384 Cuda Cores <<< ---- can this one do the job done?
1TB 5400RPM <<<--- I am thinking on buying 60GB SSD extra for OS and Adobe Programs
17.2'' Screen 1600x900
Price: 799€
HP Envy 15-j011sp:
Intel i7 4700MQ 2.4 - 3.4GhZ
8GB RAM 1600mHz <<<---- I could buy 4GB extra
Nvidia GT 740M 2GB DDR3 384 Cuda Cores
1TB 5400RPM <---- I could buy 60GB SSD extra
15.6'' Screen 1920x1080
Price: 810€
So, as you saw, Two of these laptops have 740M Graphic card. Asus is parcially alluminun, but HP is totally alluminum.
Do you think these two are good for edit videos from my DSLR camera? As I said, I don't care how much time it takes to render movie. What is most important to me is editing smooth experience.
Thank you!Do either of these laptops allow you to install a second drive? This ASUS G750 that I am using now does and it made a world of difference when I cloned the OS/Applications disk from the 1 TB 5400 rpm drive to a 128 GB fast SSD and installed a second 256 GB SSD (both are Samsung 840 PRO SSD's). Without doing that I am quite sure you will be disappointed.especially with your media from a DSLR. See the excellant article by Harm on laptops

Preparing Music Video for Broadcast in Premiere and Encore?
I am trying to prepare a music video for broadcast in Premiere Pro. However, the specs require audio (Ch. 1-2 stereo, Ch. 3 mono Ch. 4 mono). I can't find a way to do this in Premiere Pro. I seem to be able to do this in Encore - I can create four audio tracks.
Problems so far:
1. I can only import the stereo wav file onto track 1, and have to import it again on track 2. The stereo mix isn't spread across both tracks Left/Right. Will the stereo mix appear on the correct tracks when delivered for broadcast?
2. I need to export the video as an mpeg 2 on my hard drive - not actually burn to disc. Can I export an mpeg 2 video file without burning to disc?I am delivering the master as an mpeg 2, uploaded by FTP.
Here are the audio specs:
Stereo Left and Right audio signals must appear on channel 1 and 2 respectively
Dolby ProLogic matrixed audio (Lt /Rt) may be substituted for Stereo audio on channel 1 and 2 if desired
Monaural audio may be substituted for Stereo on channels 1 and 2, but must appear on both channels and must be in-phase.
Secondary Audio Program (SAP) if available, must appear on Channel 3, otherwise a mono mix of Channels 1 and 2 should appear on Channel 3.
Descriptive Video Service (DVS) audio, if available, must appear on Channel 3 if delivered in lieu of SAP audio
DVS must appear on Channel 4 if delivered in addition to SAP audio, otherwise a mono mix of channels 1 and 2 should appear on channel 4.
So basically, I need a Left and Right stereo on Ch. 1 and 2. And mono on 3 and 4, because I don't have SAP or DVS content.
I can create 4 audio tracks in Encore, then I import my stereo wav file and mono wav file. But when I drag the stereo wav file onto audio track 1, both channels of the stereo wav file are on track 1. I read in Encore's help files that (assuming this would be going to DVD and not an mpeg on my hard drive) only one audio track can play at a time. Each individual audio track appears to be stereo, but I don't know how they would each correspond with the requirement for Ch. 1 to be stereo left and Ch. 2 to be stereo right. As of right now, it appears that track 1 is both left and right, and I can import the same stereo wav file on track 2 seperately with both left and right audio.
The specs I'm trying to meet are Viacom/MTV which is a major outlet for music video content, so I'm assuming their requirements are reasonable enough.
As for making an MPEG2 from Encore without burning a disc, here is the format:
Container: MXF OP1a (SMPTE 378M)
Resolution: 1920x1080i (interlaced) 16x9 aspect ratio
Encoding: MPEG2, High Profile@ High Level 4:2:2, 50Mbps Long GOP, CBR, 29.97 frames per second (59.94 fields per second)
Audio: Uncompressed 2-, 4-, 12- or 16-channel audio, 24bit @48khz, BWF (SMPTE 382M). All audio channels must be contained within 1 MXF track.
Not sure how to export from Encore - only options I am seeing involve burning to DVD or Blu-Ray.
I really appreciate your help thus far! -
Problem with premiere and encore export, Adobe QT32 Server (Not Responding)
I could help.
When exporting to Encore or Premiere, the program block.
In the Activity Monitor shows me these two errors:
Adobe QT32 Server (Not Responding)
PPro Headless (Not Responding)
Technical Specifications:
MAC OS X 10.9.5
Adobe Suite CS6
graphics card: AJA KONA LHi
Can you help me please
Thank YouHave you checked out this post from Adobe? I know it says for After Effects but it definitely applies to Premiere too. We have some AJA cards whose components in /library/QuickTime were causing similar Adobe QT32 server hangups; removing them solved our issue but also broke compatibility with older apps like FCP 7.

Using DVD+R or DVD-R using CS4 and Encore CS4
Does it matter whether I burn to DVD+R or DVD-R discs? In the past I have used DVD+R which seem to work pretty well when I play the DVDs on various machines; but are there any advantages/disadvantages of the two types that I should know about?
I use a Sony Optiarc DVD RW AD-5240S ATA device and an LG HL-DT-ST BD-RE BHO8L520 ATA device
Thank you.those days have long gone
I agree - with current DVD players. However, there are some older players out there, that will choke on +R, or -R (depends on the model). Once, it WAS a big concern, but so long as all clients have current equipment, it should not matter.

PS - I also use +R Verbatim, or Taiyo Yuden, and have zero issues. However, I do keep some -R blank discs in stock, just in case. -
Silent installation of Functional Content (Premiere and Encore)
Can someone tell me how to perform a silent installation of the Functional Content on Windows after deploying with AAMEE on Windows 7?
Setup.exe +??Hi,
Method of deploying the functional content is the same as deploying the main products. You have to create a new package for every functional content using AAMEE (The folder containing the functional content has a setup.exe inside it). And then you can silently deploy the resulting MSI using tools like SCCM. Or you can deploy that msi on client machines with command line as
msiexec /i <path of msi> /qn .
Please let us know if you find any issues.
