.mov to .mpg

I need to convert my .mov file to something that can be viewed by a PC computer like .mpg. Any advice please?

Hi MWL,
your Mac packs any codec into socalled .mov containers... iM offers you in the expert options of the export/share dialog many codecs, sorenson, mp4 etc.... but, as said, inside a .mov....
only exception is .avi, but these are poorly coded (=less quality).
a) your friends download for free the "QTplayer for windows" at Apple's website...
b) you buy for 30$ a pro license for your QTplayer, with QTpro you are able to "strip off" the container: export your iM project as dv stream; open that with QTpro; choose export; choose .mp4; you get a file with suffix ".mp4" which can be viewed with "modern" versions of the windows media player...
c) iM/QTpro doesn't support the export to mpeg1/2
d) buy a plug-in from www.flip4mac.com to generate a .wmv file
e) produce a video-dvd with iDVD
f) ... or buy Toast6/7 to make a (S)VCD.... send them with "snail mail" (=post)
hope some suggestions work for you........

How to publish to video format avi , wmv , mov or mpg ?

    Hello there,
You can publish as MP4 from Captivate and then use any video converters to convert from MP4 to whatever format you need. But, as Lilybiri mentioned, there won't be any interactivity in the videos.
    Thanks,

  • Converting .mov to mpg

I was waondering is there a way to convert .mov to .mpg using quicktime pro.

Not at all. Use Toast. If you want MPEG-2 use the DVD setting and rip the vob's after encoding - you can make a disk image to save a DVD blank. If you want MPEG-1 use the VCD setting, same thing, mount the image and what you are after is a file called AVSEQ01.DAT or similar - rename it to a better name and .mpg extension, it is a MPEG-1 file.
Why do you want to make MPEG clips and which MPEG? 1 or 2? If you want to make MPEG-2 you can use iDVD which you should already have, make the DVD as an image, mount it and extract the VOB files. VOB = MPEG-2 regardless how it got there.
Note Toast 8 just got announced and contains bupkus for most users, e.g. Blu-Ray recording and a few other things, so Toast 7 may beocme a bargain soon, try Roxio's site, it might be on sale now.

  • MOV to MPG or export to MPG

I have saved my audio and video to a MOV file as well as have the original files in FCP. I want to either convert the MOV to an MPG or export the project files from FCP an MPG. In either case, I want both the audio and video in the one MPG file. I have tried with Compressor and have no problem creating the MPG file, but it is just the video. In additon, the file I want to create will be used on a projector and not for streaming so I want the quality of a DVD VOB file.
    Thanks for any recommendations.

I am having having exactly the same problem. I spent the entire morning trying to generate a ".mpg" file from Final Cut Pro. Need one file with audio and video. PC guy is waiting on the other end. I've seen these files floating around. Can they only be generated on a PC? If anyone can tell me. Please help!

  • Using QT Pro convert MOV to MPG (Probably very basic question)

I purchased QT Pro with the hope of being able to convert a MOV to a MPG file. Is this possible?
Can you please explain if so or if some plug-in or something else must be purchased?
    Thank you for your help.

Sorry to keep you in suspense, but can't mention the name of the software except to say that it runs MPEG-2 and needs MPEG-2. Pretty much the main reason I'm trying to run down a software product to convert from WMV, MPEG-4, MOV, and other formats over to MPEG-2.
I appreciate all your help and look forward to any future insights you might be able to provide.
Thanks again for all you smart folks out there who have insight about such things. Going to email Roxio to ge more details about their tools and get their suggestion.

  • Can't import mov and mpg files into cs5.5

    Hi
When I import a mpg file into audobe premiere cs5.5. I get the message:
There was an erro decompressing audio or video
When I import a mov file into audobe premiere cs5.5. I get the message:
    Importer reported a generic error.
Good news is, that I have simply imported both files in the past without any troubles. So I hope it is something very simple.
Maybe I have somewhere codec installed in the past (k-light) and something now doesn't work that well anymore.
But I don't know if I have done this anymore and a desktop search didn't deliver me any results.

I've installed Premiere Pro now on a different windows7 platform.
Still the same. Can't import the mpg file. Somehow the mov file works here so that is something.
Anyway I thought maybe it is helpful to share some data about the video:
    Container:
    DVD "VOB" format
    MPEG-2 Program Stream << { 1 vid, 1 aud }
    Sys Bitrate: 10080 kb/s VBR
    Audio:
    AC3
    0xbd[0x80]:48000Hz  256 kb/s tot , stereo (2/0)
    Codec(s) installed (zegt Gspot)
    Video:
    Codec MPEG2  Name MPEG-2
    Codec(s) installed (zegt Gspot).

  • Converting *.mov and *.mpg formats to import in iMovie 08

I am not able to import .mov files created in iPhoto and *.mpg format. Can someone please tell me how to convert it to an importable format.

If you want to edit these clips, your best bet is to download MPEG Streamclip (free) and the Apple Quicktime MPEG2 Playback Component ($20). Open MPEG Streamclip and drag the .mpg files to the big open pane in MPEG Streamclip. Now you can export the clip into a format that can be edited by iMovie for editing. For example, convert to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) in the same dimensions as the original.
If you want to go straight to DVD, you need a DVD authoring tool like Toast 10 (iDVD will not accept MPEG as a source). With Toast 10, you can open a DVD project and drag the .mpg file into it directly.
You still might need MPEG Streamclip if the .mpg file is too long to fit on a DVD, in which case you would use MPEG Streamclip to divide the .mpg file into two parts.

  • Mov to .mpg maintaining quality. TiVo issue.

When I export video from FC EXHD as a mpeg-4 I can not maintain 720x480 resolution. Why?
For clarification: I am trying to convert newly captured/rendered video to a high resolution mpeg-2 (with a .mpg extension) for use on my PC and ultimately for incorporation into my Go To Tivo network?
I get all bleary eyed when I read that .mov often is mpeg-2, all I know is that my pc doesnt give a crap, mov is mov and mpeg is mpeg.
Should I just keep my output as a mov file and convert it on a PC? I do have Digital Media Converter (DMC for PC)-it's okay not great. Any better alternatives?
Please Help. I am trying to become a MAC convert.

  • Mpg movie vs mpg movie file

I have used Clone DVD Mobile and Handbrake to convert my movies to ATV format. One shows the format as "mpg movie file" and the other shows "mpg movie". I had notice that of the 300ish movies I have, about 30% did not import in iTunes and all of these were one of the formats above. I'll have to update whioch it is exactly when I get home, but thought someone may know the difference.

They are "mpg video file" and "mpg video", Handbrake and Clone DVD respectively.

  • .mov to .mpg Converter?

Is there a converter, preferably free, that would convert an .mov file to an .mpeg (and not mp4)?
I have a PC-based friend who wants such a conversion, but (as confirmed by discussions on these boards) QT 7 doesn't do it. MPEG Streamclip apparently has the capability in certain circumstances, but with an .mov file loaded, the "convert to MPEG" options are grayed out.

Is there a converter, preferably free, that would convert an .mov file to an .mpeg (and not mp4)?... BitVice makes MPEG-2 not MPEG-1, AFAIK.
On a Mac the extension ".MPEG" usually refers to multiplexed MPEP2/MP2 (but can include MPEG2 with other MPEG-1 audio layers) file compression. Multiplexed MPEG-1 files are normally designated with the ".MPG" extension.
If MPEG-1 is desired, then iVCD or Visual Hub (no longer supported) are both viable options but still not free. FFmpegX (share-ware) or MPEG2 Works (pay-ware) will also work but are not as easy to use.

  • Importing .mov or .mpg and not getting audio in FCP

I have both an Mpeg (as well as an .mov ) file that play in QuickTime Player beautifully with audio. When I import it into FCP I only get the video. This has been happening with many files that clients are bringing in and have not figured out a way to get the audio track into Final Cut. Any suggestions? Why will it accept the video, but not the audio? Thank you for your assistance in advance!!
    BR

    Hi,
Mpeg is not an editing format.
You need to demux video and audio and convert the original Mpeg in a FCP friendly format like DV or QT.
Your solution is likely MPEGstreamclip. Here it is:

    It'll do what you need.

  • Video conversion software recommendations. MOV to MPG, WMV

Can someone please recommend an inexpensive video conversion software package? I'm trying to convert a QTMOV to MPG or WMV for Windows users without QT installed. Any help appreciated. I'm a recent Windows convert.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Quicktime Pro ($30us) is an excellent value video tool which can handle editing, layers, transparency etc etc. It can export to a variety of formats (although not WMV for obvious reasons). I'd be tempted to wait a couple of months though as QT8 will probably be around soon and will require a new key to be bought.
Also check out these applications on MacUpdate.

  • How can i convert a .wmv to .mov or .mpg?

I don't need to convert the file so I can view it.
I'm hosting this video on a website and I want to enable users the option to download the file in either .mov/.mpg4 format or .wmv format.
Does anybody know if there is a free converter out there?
Also, I have VLC for my .wmv's but it stopped working recently. Now when I try to play a .wmv in VLC the video doesn't work, but the sound does, and I get this error message:
"main: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `WMV3'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format."
    Thanks,
    Jacob

I find the free iSquint to be the easiest GUI for these projects...some people dump on it since the interface is so simple, but just use the Advanced Mode if you want to tinker.

Alternatively, if you have QTPro, you can download and install the Flip4Mac beta for intel components (posted in this forum) - that way, QT will play the WMV file natively and you can simply "save it" as a .mov. I've pretty much left VLC in the dust for even attempting to play WMV files after installing the F4M beta. It is, of course, still invaluable for a zillion other reasons.

  • How do I compress .mov and .mpg files

I have several mpg1video clips at 18.8MB each, how do I compress them into smaller files. I want to e-mail them at about 2-3MB each, and maintain good quality? Power Mac G5 2.3 OSX 10.4.4 My objective is to upload 30 second video commercials and 2-3 minute clips to my web site or e-mail them to various clients. Need help.
    Thanks,

For most users just using a browser other than Safari solves the trouble.
When I encounter pages that don't show the Pro "pull down" (right end of the controller) I simply Control click on the video window to bring up the contextual menu.
