.mov to mxf

I have to convert a .mov to an mxf file, can anyone tell me the best way to do this?

Vegas can take all kinds of different formats and codecs. That's one of its features. More likely the problem is your media is in a codec like ProRes or HDV or DVCPROHD that's are in an Apple format and not available for production on a PC. MXF is a wrapper and not a video format as such and can be many different things. Have you tried exporting to QuickTime Movie and using Compressor?

AA022201.mov.V152E1EEB6.mxf   It has both.mov and .mxf extensions on it.  Too many dots.  It went through pav tube and then imported into media composer.  Has anyone seen a file type like this.  Trying to convert to import into Final Cut but for now will be happy just to convert and view it.

    Hi there,
You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.
Thanks, let me know if the update helps,
    Nathan

  • Error Compiling Movie - XF305 MXF Clip

I'm rendering a clip from a Canon XF305 using Premiere Pro version 7.2.1 on a Windows 7 i7-920, 48 GB, LSI 9286CV-8E that I've been using for 4 years starting with PR 5.0. The error is happening in the middle of the clip on the same frame. I'm exporting with Match Sequence Settings. The clip plays fine in PR and I don't see anything happening when I go frame by frame around the area where it gets the error. The file size when it gets the error is ~3GB and I have 3TB of available space on this RAID 6 disk.
    The clip properties are:
    File Path: T:\Video\XF305\CONTENTS\CLIPS001\SA0343\SA034301.MXF
    Type: MXF
    File Size: 1.9 GB
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Frame Rate: 23.976
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:41:41:12
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
    MXF File details:
Wrapper type: MXF OP1a (type: SingleItem SinglePackage MultiTrack Stream Internal)
    File generated by: CANON, XF305
    MPEG-2 422 Long-GOP
FIXED: Not sure what type of bug this is, but I did a cut just before and after the frames where the exporter would get the error and was able to export each cut of the clip without error. Now, I've been able to export the whole sequence. The only difference were the two cuts I made.
I created a new sequence with the original clips in the same project and it exported without error.
Has anyone had a similar problem?
    Thanks,
    Rob

  • Working with BMD ProRes422 .mov in PrPro8.1

    Hello forum friends,
(So, this experience has been pretty awful... I've had problems with really all of my media since subscribing to CC - rolled back to previous versions, cleaned, uninstalled, stood on my head and drank water while whistling dixie, everything the forum can suggest, and still glitchy, hanging, dropouts, and other errors in the viewer. Slogging through is terrible, but at least I am not getting crashes. Performance in 8.1 with BMD media has been as bad as with Canon .MXF or the NewTek MPEG2 media I also see in my shop.)
Anyway, this morning I wrapped up a show shot on a BMD ATEM TVS and recorded to a BMD Hyperdeck studio in ProRes422.mov, and I need the advice of someone more experienced with this gear and the media it produces. I am editing in PrPro8.1 on a Win7 machine - even though i do own QT7pro, for whatever reason PrPro can't edit in ProRes422 natively (boo) so the auto settings on this timeline turn out to be "AVC Intra Class 100" and the "match settings" export comes out as a ".mxf". Can anyone with BMD experience tell me if this default workflow is in fact the best setting for this recorder working with PrPro?? Would I be better off choosing a different recorder format (e.g. DNxHD in a .mov or .mxf wrapper) or forcing the sequence to another setting?
I prefer to do my target encodes on a Mac in "Compressor" (I gave up on AME a while back) and I am excited about the possibility of native .mxf import in the apple video apps - I will test the PrPro .mxf on this platform in  just a bit, and will come back here to report.
    Thanks!

I am trying to figure out how to edit video content I exported from a VOB file that the audio is in AC3.
AC3 content is not editable in QT applications.
I have used tools like StreamClip to export the file into a QT MOV format, but there are no AC3 options.
MPEG Streamclip by default down-mixes 5.1 (3/2) AC3 down to stereo. (Other options include: Front Mix, Surround, L/R Ch., Center Ch., LS/RS Ch., and LFE ch. which can then be exported as stereo or mono.)
So I DEMUX the audio to AC3 and try to add that to iMovie 08 and still no luck.
As stated above, iMovie '08 does not support AC3 as a compression format. In addition, iMovie '08 cannot access third-party components so even if you have an AC3/A52 component installed, it will not work. Further, even if it did support AC3 compressed audio, iMovie '08 itself only supports stereo audio.
Looks like 08 does not support m2v format.
iMovie '08 will support M2V video content in an MOV file container if and only if all P- and B-frames have been converted to I-frames making the file equivalent to a Motion-JPEG video clip.
I have FCE will that help me?
    Not Really.
What I want to do is I have a number of HD/SD media that all have 5.1 Surround and I am simply wanting to merge them together into one big clip, with maybe some fine tuning of the clip length nothing fancy, but I want to retain the AC3 5.1 Surround sound content.
In the end, all of the various possible work flows depend on how you plan to play the content. This, in turn, determines which work flow is best suited to your needs. Basically you can convert and then edit in QT editor applications or edit in MPEG Streamclip, (save,) and then convert for a final target use/device.

  • MXF export with FCSrv

    Hello,
I want to create an automation to transcode files IMX30 Mov to Mxf with FCSrv. Is there any way to do it? I tried MXF4MAC export for FCS and doesn´t work.
    Thanks.

mxfactory works really well and can be integrated well into Final Cut Server. I recently deployed this to automatically generate mxf files for a bunch of dpx image sequences direct into an Avid unity where the editors could simply drag the files into their projects from the media tool as soon as the files were available. its a lot faster than any of the other tools we've tested so far. The price tag was a bit hefty though.

  • Color correction challenge, PP5.5 Mac, ProRes to WMV

I'm eager to complete my transition from FC Studio to Production Premium CS5.5, but I'm challenged to ensure consistent color in my ProRes to WMV workflow. Any advice would be appreciated.
My shooting gear: EX1R, w and w/o Nanoflash
Editing gear: 2008 MacPro (3.1), OSX 10.6.7, 10 GB RAM, ATI Raedon 4870
Workflow (FCP): Acquire footage, edit native (XD CAM EX/XDCAM HD22), render sequence to ProRes 422, transcode via Quicktime 7 Pro/Flip for Mac to produce WMV files for my PC clients.
Workflow CS5.5 (intended:) Acquire footage, edit native (XDCAM HD 422 via Nanoflash), output sequence to ProRes, transcode to WMV via Quicktime 7 Pro/Flip for Mac HD. After I put a "trial" sequence together in PP5.5, I adjust footage with 3-way color corrector. Here's where the fun starts:
Process: I attempt to create a "master file" from the sequence, using AME with output set for Pro Res. The next intended step would be to open the file in Quicktime Pro 7, then encode via Flip for Mac to produce a smaller WMV file for my clients.
Outcome (1) The results look as though color correction was bypassed completely. After much trial and error, I discovered that when I encoded using ProRes 4444, color corrections were preserved. Yet when I transcoded from 4444 to wmv, (2) the resulting files appeared to have no color correction. No good.
I'm stumped! I thought I was on to something when I noticed the "preset" for outputting XDCAM HD422 was not set for "progressive," but it appears to make no difference.
Sidebar: I experience the same issue regardless of use of XDCAM EX or XDCAM HD422 files. With the latter, I've edited clips in MOV and MXF format. Same outcome.
Until I get this workflow issue sorted out, I'm stalled in completing my transition to PP. I'd like to have acquired gobs more RAM and an Nvidia Quadro 4800 card already, but I need to know that I've fixed this issue first.
    Any suggestions most welcome.
    Sincerely,
    Tom
    Raleigh, NC

I finally figured it out! If there are any other FCP to PP traitors out there like me in Mac land, here's a workflow that results in WMVs matching the color corrections created in your PP sequence:
    1) Edit native. In my case, I'm working with "XDCAM HD 422," the result of linking a Nanoflash set for 100 mbps/long gop to my EX1R. Both FCP and PP "read" them as 50 mbps files.
    2) Export media to AME, checking the box, "Match Sequence Settings." With little delay, this produces a file with an mpeg extension (the mpeg-2 codec). In Quicktime player, this yields silent footage with no audio. Bummer. End of story, I thought.
    3) But this time, I brought that same "black" file into Apple Compressor. Using the Flip For Mac plug in, I exported to one of my "regular" settings, 2-pass, VBR, 640x360. The result: a perfect color match with my color corrected PP sequence.
I'm sure there are alternatives to bringing a file that won't play in Quicktime into Compressor. I'll try Quicktime Pro and Streamclip next. But the point -- I think -- is to not bother with any more intermediate formats/files than one has to.
    Sighs of relief here.

  • Embedding closed captions in MPEG

I've seen a few questions on this but still don't understand. I'm working with Premiere Pro CC on a Windows computer. I've been asked by a television broadcaster to submit closed captioned MPEG files for a 30 minute program I'm delivering. The station wants the caption files embedded in MPEG format which I understand Premiere Pro is not able to do. How can I convert the sidecar file and MP4 OR the mov file with embedded captions that I have created in Premiere into the format they require? This is pretty urgent so any CLEAR advice would be greatly appreciated

    Hello there,
I'm sorry this was not replied to sooner. At this time, Premiere Pro embeds closed caption streams (and services) to MOV and MXF files. There's no way right now to embed closed captions to MPEG2, at least with Premiere Pro.
I wish I could give you different news, but there it is.

    Hi everybody
I did the following to solve ALL problems I had with crashes, file reading errors, AJA video preview, switching to other software etc.
(@Todd: refering to the other blog, all these problems are solved as well! I work with QT movies and MXF.)
    – Deleted all DVCpro components
    – Reset PRAM
    – Repaired Permissions in Safe Mode
    – Deleted AE prefs when starting AE
Now I can switch and play around like I always did.
And even my AJA output stays there when getting back to AE.

  • Premiere 2014 Program Monitor extremely slow

    Hi CC Community,
I am running Premiere 2014 on 10.8.4 on a powerful machine with dual GTX 580s.
I have organized my project by film days, meaning each day has its own sequence that I can jump to and scrub through.
The problem I am encountering is this: whenever I switch from one day's sequence to another, the Program Monitor window takes a very long time to update. On the scale of 30 seconds or more. Most of my footage is 2K (some 4K), which my system can handle without issue, but it still chokes up terribly when jumping through sequences.
I just sat here for almost 10 minutes waiting for the monitor to update after closing 15 of my sequences. As I imagine it, Premiere choked on each of those 15 sequences before finally catching up to the day I wanted it to land on. I have two pieces of evidence that support this theory. #1, when Premiere FINALLY caught up with where I had the playhead, I saw a flash of numerous frames that came from the sequences I had closed and also, I monitored my CPU usage and it displayed what seemed to be a series of pretty intense calculations that were not necessary. See below:
Can anyone here, or from Adobe explain why Premiere is unable to efficiently jump through sequences?
I have a 12TB hard drive array that is connected to my motherboard and is blazing fast, so it is not an i/o issue.
My CPU power and GPU power is beyond powerful enough to deal with these projects.
I have not had this issue before with CC - this is the first time I am editing on the 2014 programs though.
I do have Lumetri on my files, but with a yellow timeline, not red.
My files are either .mov or .mxf (from Sony XDCAM codec)
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Sarthak,
I use Lumetri. That comes with the 2014 build though. I see no reason why it should be slowing Premiere down so much.
As I said, these issues didn't exist with Premiere CC. Have any more significant ideas as to why this is happening?
File import is also extremely slow.

  • Exporting MPEG IMX

I have a client requirement and seems that it is becoming more and more popular. They ask for dvd mpeg IMX export with these specificaions:
    IMX30 Standard Definition:
Video File File: IMX30 QuickTime MOV or OP1a MXF wrapped
    File Extension: .mov or .mxf
    File Chroma Encoding: 4:2:2
    Encoding Bitrate: 30Mbit/sec
    Encoding GOP: I frame only
    MPEG Encoding Type: Interlaced TFF
    Video Standard: PAL
Levels: Standard Video Levels BT.601 (16-235. Not
    RGB 0-255)
Aspect Ratio: 16/9 or 4/3 per destination requirements
    Frame Size: 720(H) x 576(V) pixels (PAL), 720 x 480
    (NTSC)3
Frame Rate: 25.00 fps (PAL), 29.97 (NTSC)
Picture Scan Type: Interlaced TFF or Progressive
Duration: As specified at upload time mm:ss:ff1
I know I can export  .MXF via MXF OP1a but I can't see any of the parameters that I can edit. Are the default parameters standard like the requirements above? Or do I have to bring my material out to encode this? Thanks.

IMX is by definition an I-frame only Rec.601 format, so the only parameter you need to worry about is the aspect ratio.

  • HD ANIMATION FROM AVID TO FCP AND BACK

    Hey,
I have a client who needs me to edit Avid HD sequences into a short promo in FCP. I want to do an offline edit and then reconnect the sequence to full HD quality and export the promos back to Avid. Has anyone had to do this? Would I loose HD quality going from Quicktime to Avid Media? Would my G5 Dual 1.8 with FCP 5 HD be able to handle import, edit and export of full quality HD media?
I hope this is enough info. Thanks

you will be much happier and much better off if you stay in Avid world and make those corrections there. Avid uses its own propritery media format that can't be easily transfered to FCP. You could use something like Automatic Duck to generate a list and then recapture in FCP but other than that, stay in Avid. In other words, it is not absolutely simple to move the MXF files.

  • How to encode 4 channel mxf file to 4 channel mov file

I want to encode a 4-channel IMX 50 mxf file to an 4 channel imx50 mov file. We use the mxf import plugin for reading mxf files. Which audiosettings do I need to use to create a 4-channel mov file. Everything I do results in a 2 channel file.

Thank you all so much for your speedy responses. My workflow is to include web-ready movie files to both PC and Mac users. I won't know in advance which they use. The AIC file was a one-off circumstance.
The files will be generally be h264 to be uploaded to youtube, vimeo, FB, wherever. I know that those files will open on QT for Windows (when it's properly installed) and will upload to those sites just fine. I don't want to alienate Mac users (or add another step to my workflow) by using .wmv when these files are intended for the user to upload rather than view on their computer anyway.
I think it was the AIC thing that was killing me. Especially since her computer did not give any sort of error message. I know a lot of Windows users have that "sound but no video" issue, so I assumed QT was installed wrong. I'm hoping if everything is encoded h264, and I give explicit instructions for downloading (and installing) QT, that it should all be good. I know that's probably naive given how wildly different, annoying, and un-user friendly PC's are, but that's probably what I'm going to go with.
In the past, I've found many people responding that they could hear but not see the video and they would swear they had the latest version of QT. They did. The .exe file was sitting uninstalled on their desktop.

  • MXF codecs & encoder for pc? MXF AVI or MOV

    Hello,
I have a question about MXF codecs for PPro CS3. I have a Sony PDW-530 (2/3" professional SD camera) and I shoot on IMX50. I have a problem when I import the .MXF files in PPro CS3. PPro CS3 says, 'unsupported format or codec is missing'. When I shoot with the Sony PDW-F335L (that's a HD 1/2" camera) and import the .MXF files into PPro CS3 I have no problem with 'unsupported format or codec is missing'.
So one of my questions is: 'Is there a codec for Premiere Pro CS3 for .MXF files shoot on IMX30 / IMX40 or IMX50? And where can I found him then.
Then my other question: Mac has a MXF encoder, named 'XDCAM Transfer'. In this program you can import the .MXF files and then convert it to a .MOV file. The .MOV file you can import in Premiere Pro CS3.
Is there for PC also a MXF encoder of tranfer (to a .AVI or .MOV file?)
    Hopefully you can help me!
    Greetings Rob!

I believe Premiere's MXF support is limited to DVCPRO HD and XDCAM EX/HD.

  • Convert MXF files to MOV files, NO LASTCLIP.TXT in FCP 5.1.4

Hello everyone. I am new to the forums. I have a project I have been asked to edit where the files came off of a P2 Card from a Panasonic HVX2000. The problem is, they didn't copy the LASTCLIP.TXT files off of the P2 Card. So I just have the files themselves. Is there a way to convert the files to .MOV files? I do know about the Log & Transfer, but you need the LASTCLIP.TXT for that. Thanks!!

#38-P2 - Missing LASTCLIP.txt file. How to rebuild.
Shane's Stock Answer #38 - When you offloaded the P2 cards, you forgot to get the LASTCLIP.tct file? No worries, not all is lost.
    MISSING LASTCLIP.TXT FILE:
    http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=58755
If you neglected to copy the "lastclip.txt" file all is not lost. Much like the six million dollar man, we can rebuild him.
Lastclip.txt can be generated by any text editor. If you are using a mac then open up textedit.
Create a new txt file. It will have 3 lines to it.
The first line is the name of the last clip that was recorded.
Back to the finder. Open up your CONTENTS folder. In there, open up your VIDEO folder. Organize the folder by Date Last Modified. Find the name of the last file in this folder. If you have 16 clips in the folder is will be 0016ag.mxf or something like that. Four numbers and two letters followed by .mxf.
Take this name and place in the first line of your text file. On the next line of the text file type in "1.0" (don't include the quotes).
The third line is the number of clips in the folder +1. If you have 16 clips then the third line should read "17" (again no quotes).
I'm not 100% sure if the number on the third line is the number of clips left in the folder (after any on-set deletions) or if it is the total number of clips generated during this session with the card. Try both. Remember to add 1 to that number.
Your txt file should like something like this:
    0016ab.mxf
    1.0
    17
That's it. You should be good to go. Put your CONTENTS folders in separate folders with separate LASTCLIP.txt folders and import them as separate P2 cards.
The annoying thing is that all of the various .mxf files in these 6 folders are locked items and they must all be unlocked manually to erase them.
It's much easier to import direct into FCP 5.0.4 or higher. It does so without leaving all of these locked files on your computer.
Credit for this solution goes to Randy Wedick.
