Move an Event to Another Mac?

I'm hoping someone can help me with this.
I have most of my pictures on my iMac, but have several events within a library that I have imported and edited on my MacBook instead. Is there any easy way of copying an event, and all of the information from that event (original JPEG, edited JPEGS, RAW files, keywords, ratings), to my iMac? I can copy and import the edited jpegs into a new event, but I loose the other information. I'm not as worried about the keywords and ratings, but would like to keep the original JPEGs in case of further edits.
I was planning to use my external hard drive to transfer everything, but could use DVD's or my iDisk if I split up the events. In the future, I think I will save major editing projects for the iMac
Thanks,
Trisha

Trisha:
iPLM will copy both Events and Albums between libraries like this
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How to move ONE account to another Mac

    Greetings!
My wife and I have separate email accounts, running Mail, on my PowerBook. I need to go away for some weeks. What is the best way of moving her account/mailboxes/mail history to the kids' Mac while I am away? And then, of course, move it all back again?

Not so easy, if you have separate email accounts, btu lumped them into one instance of mail.
Do you use IMAP - e.g.: .mac or another IMAP account? If so, just set up the account on another computer and it will automatically synchronize. That's why I recomend people pay for 3rd party IMAP, rather than POP email accounts.
If not, then you could simply set up the account on the other machine and use it. Your history and address book would nto be present, but it would work ok. You could then copy all the emails sent and received while you are gone back to the original.
Moving (copy-ing) the entire Library/Mail folder, unfortunately, would move all of YOUR email too, and over-write the settings on the other machine. So I would not do that unless its essentially an unused machine.
Maybe someone else has a better idea.
If this happens a lot, consider buying an IMAP account. Several good companies sell them for $20/yr.

  • How to move some mail from another Mac?

My main Mac was in the shop for a week - the Apple people just fixed it (hooray!)
while it was gone, I was receiving my mail on an older computer.
if I take that week's worth of mail, and put it into a folder, is there anyway to copy that folder (and the mail therein) and put it into the other Mac, which is back from the shop?
    thanks!
    w

You didn't mention before that your old computer was running Tiger.
Tiger Mail, indeed, doesn't have archive function so
the transfer process is slightly trickier.
    1. Archive all your mailboxes on the new computer the way i described above.
2.Make sure Mail is not running on the new computer.
Copy the directory homedirectory/Library/Mail and the file homedirectory/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist from the old computer to the corresponding location on the new one.
    3. Start Mail. It should have the account setup and the mailbox content of your old computer. Import your achived mailboxes.

  • Image 10.7.3. Problems with settings when new image is used on another mac

10.7.3 image.I create an image of 10.7.3 using disk utility with the "Require an admin password to access system preferences" checked under Security and Privacy, once i move the image to another mac it reverts and unchecks the setting "Require an admin password to access system preferences. There is no problems creating the image or loading the image on new mac. There is something that is reverting the setting from original image on new mac. I am not using a 3rd party software to create an image. As what i understand the image should exactly the same. Not sure what is causing these problems since it only happens when using 10.7.3 and did not happend on 10.7.2. Any feedback will be appreciated. thanks

Also AppleScript for QuickTime player control is broken. Instead of moving playhead forward, this AppleScript now moves it backward!
    set the increment_amount to 40
    tell application "QuickTime Player"
              try
                        ignoring application responses
                                  tell document 1

  • Advanced Slideshow -- Can it be copied to another Mac?

I've created an iPhoto 5 advanced slideshow with custom timing, etc. Is there a way to move this slideshow to another Mac?

There is a way but it would involve duplicating your current library folder and giving it a name like Slideshow Library. The launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, locate Slideshow Library and open it. Now delete all the photo but those in the slideshow. Then close iPhoto.
Now copy the Slideshow Library folder to the other Mac. Using iPhoto Buddy on the other Mac the user can easily move between the original library on that Mac and the Slideshow Library.
However you will have to reapply the audio because it will not carry over the audio tracks. If they don't have the same tracks you may have to select others. Not the best solution overall. That's about the only way you can do it.

  • IMovie 10 - how do I move an event from one library to another?

    Greetings,
I have updated all of my projects and events from iMovie 9 to iMovie 10.0.1. They now all sit in different libraries on different external HDDs.
How do I move an event from one library to another library in iMovie 10? How do I copy an event from one library to another library in iMovie 10?
    Thanks,
    John

Simply drag and drop from one library to another.  See:  http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov3fa25bae7

  • How do I move individual photos from 1 event to another event in Iphoto 8

I have moved from a PC to a mac and was using Picasa before. All my photos are stored on a seperate hard disc and I have imported them all into iphoto. I am trying to edit them and cannot seem to find a way to move an individual photo from one event to another. When you open an event is there any way of seeing the other events and dragging and dropping your photo that way?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
1 Use PHOTOS view and then select View > Event Titles
(You can open and close Events by clicking on the wee triangle to the left of the title. option (or alt) - click will open and close all at one go.)
    2. You can now drag and drop pics between Events easily.

  • Move iMovie Events & Projects to a new Mac

I just got a new Mac and want to move my iMovie events and projects from the old machine to the new one. I seem to recall reading an article on Macworld a while back saying that you shouldn't just go through the finder to copy the files from one disk to another. What is the proper way to move the files from one machine to another - there are roughly 200GB worth of files.
Both units are running iMovie '11

AppleMan1958... unlike many posts I find on these forums I really appreciate that you answer the questions and do so quite authoritatively.
In keeping with the theme of this particular discussion, I have a question for you (or anyone else who can answer it).
I moved several iMovie 11 project files along with the associated events to a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) external hard drive. I did this within the iMovie Project Library window on a Mac Mini running OSX 10.6.6
After properly ejecting the drive I connected it to a Mac Pro running 10.6.5. I open iMovie on the new machine (iMovie 09) and the drive shows up in the Project Library window but the projects do not show up under it. (The projects are there because I see them in the Finder.) What I want to do is move the projects to the new machine.
I did this before so I know it works. My question is: why would the projects I want to move now not show up in the Project Library window?

  • Move iphoto program from one mac to another

I would like to move iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 from one mac with OS 10.6.8 to another mac with OS 10.5.8.  Can you tell me how to do this?  Thank you in advance.
    Joy

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • How do you Move an iMovie '08 Project to Another Mac?

What's the best way to move an iMovie '08 project to another Mac on my network? (Both Macs have iMovie '08.) Specifically, is there an easy way to move a project and the event containing the imported clips in one step?
Often, I'll do work on my Intel MacBook then transfer stuff to my Intel iMac for long term storage. In iMovie '08, I tried various imports and exports and nothing worked so well. For example, when you drag and drop a project file from one computer to another the clips don't come with it. You can play the movie but the clips in the media browser are grayed-out.
There ought to be something like the archive routine that packages up everything and lets you put it on another computer for further editing.
    Thanks!

I would like to know the same thing but not for another Mac... just another user. Should be almost the same procedure right?
My iMovie '08 is crashing like crazy! I just want to get the projects into iMovie using a fresh user and hope that fixes it. I can see where copying/moving preferences into the library of the other user (along with duping the projects in the movies folder) might succeed in opening the project in another user. I'm just afraid of moving bad prefs or something.

  • How do I move clips from one Event to another?

How do I move clips from one Event to another?
As soon as I got the new iMovie, I started importing clips and making video's. Unfortunately, I hadn't fully understood the Events feature, so all of my clips are in a single "New Event" Event. I have now created several other Events and named them properly and would like to sort all of my clips into their proper "Event" folders. How do you do that?

Ahh, Ok. I actually had to go to Lynda.com to watch a training video of this highly bassackwards maneuver, but now I have it. In other words, while the intuitive thing is to make a new event to hold the clip you want and then open the old event and drag the clip into it's new event, the only way to accomplish this maneuver is to NOT create a new event, but rather, go to the clip AFTER the one you want to move, select it and then Right-Click on it and select SPLIT EVENT BEFORE SELECTED CLIP (or go to FILE>SPLIT EVENT BEFORE SELECTED CLIP). Then you wait a few seconds while the program thinks a bit (no feedback it is doing this - just a pause) and then it automatically creates a new event with the clip you wanted. Now just double-click the new event and name it something meaningful.
    Thanks for your help!

  • How can I move an event in ical to another calendar without ical resending the event invite to everyone

I have 2 microsoft exchange calendars that I use for work. One is provided by my company, the other is provided by a customer that I do contract work for. The customer prefers to send invites to my email address provided to me by them. Which means that the invite appears on the exchange calendar provided to me by the customer.
That's fine, but I would like for the event to appear on my work calendar so that I can get reminders on my iphone (long story short, the customer does not allow me to connect to their exchange server via my iphone due to security reasons).
So, I go into iCal, open the event and change the calendar for the event. Unfortunately, that causes iCal to resend the invite to everyone involved in the event. This causes alot of confusion, obviously, as now everyone is wanting to know why I sent an invite for an event that is already scheduled.
How can I move events to another calendar without iCal sending another invite to everyone?

If you change anything in a repeating calendar entry it will give you the option of disconnecting it from the series. So may any random change, choose to not change the series.

  • Can I move an ongoing imovie project from my mac to another mac?

I would like to move my ongoing imovie project from one mac to another and then continue working with the project. Is this possible? If it is, how do I do?
    /Caro

You will need an external hard drive that is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Then you will move the Project to the external hard drive from within iMovie.
    See here for instructions. http://help.apple.com/imovie/#move7d66613
Then you will use the File/Consoldate Media command to move everything else.
    See here for instructions. http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6c7c9
You can edit on the new Mac from the external drive, but if you prefer, you can move everything to the new Mac by using the same instructions above.

  • Move unfinished imovie from one mac to another?

i have an unfinished imovie on a friends mac. can i save the unfinished imovie on a usb drive, then open it on another mac (exactly the same version as the current one) and continue editing/adding to my imovie?

I would revise Bengt's remarks just a little bit.
A USB External Hard Drive is fine for both editing and moving. However, the drive must be formatted is MAC OS Extened (journaled) as Bengt says.
Then in iMovie, click VIEW/EVENTS BY VOLUME.
Hold down the Command Key while dragging the small icon in the iMovie Event Library List to the small icon for your external USB drive in the same iMovie Event Library List. Then do the same command-drag with your project in the Project Library List. Finally, point to the project in the Project library List, and click File/Consolidate to make sure that all project assets (photos, music, etc.) are on the external disk.
When you get to the new Mac, plug in the USB drive, and imovie should recognize your projects and events and you can continue editing from the external drive.
If you prefer, you can command drag the projects and events to the internal drive in the new mac as before.

  • I have no problems copying iMovie Events from one Mac to another, however, how can I copy iMovie Projects from one Mac to another?

I have no problems copying iMovie Events from one Mac to another, however, how can I copy iMovie Projects from one Mac to another?  Any help will be appreciated.  Thank you.

This should give you some good insight, I'd probably store them on an External HD on the old machine and then just drag and drop to the new machine.
