Move and enlarge a single object in a video ?

How would I enlarge a single object and move it to different location on my video? For example when playing a video game, I want people to clearly see my health bar. So I would enlarge it and move it, to lets say the top right of the screen. How would I do this in After Effects CS5?

You would use elaborate masking and rotoscoping to separate it from whatever footage it is on and then you would use more masking and painting to cover up the hole you made. That being quite tedious and time consuming, you should probably settle on leaving whatever status bar you have in place including the background and just "zoom" it by scaling a duplicate of the layer and then mask it with a simple rectangular mask. Add some fancy border or drop shadow and that's it. You could of course also completely rebuild and animate a status bar from graphical elements, but that may not at all impress your friends with your gaming skills and come off as cheating...

What is going on with iWork-Suite.
We can not copy and paste multiple objects from keynote oder pages into iBook Author.
As soon as you copy more than one object it will be one object in iBooks Author.
For years it was working finde. ;(

When I select a single object in a layer and try to move it with the mouse, everything goes with...

I've been having this problem where I can't use the move tool with the mouse properly. I'll go and select a single item on a layer and then try to move it with the mouse (move tool). I've done this before and still do it all the time on Photoshop on my other machines. However, on my laptop it won't work. I grab the single object I want to move and the second I move it, it defaults to moving every single layer in my file. The only way to get around it is to use the arrows, but that's becoming laborious and frustrating.
Any ideas?

I know what you mean! This happened to me as well!
And one thing that I found useful is, if you want to directly select a layer without selecting from the layers pallete and without having autoselect enabled, just hold Ctrl and click on in directly in the image. This saved me a lot of time!

If you right click on the image on the page in the context menu select photo box alignment and then select one of scale to fit {centered, Left-aligned, Right-aligned}
That should do what you are loking for.

What is the easiest way to move every single object in a PDF?

I have 300 pdf documents containing a total of about 2000 pages of content... and I need to shift every single object in them a half inch to the right.
Is there an easy or fast way to do this? Im currently only able to select all objects on a single page, which makes this task... frustrating.

You should be able to write a script to do the job. George Johnson posted a script for cropping pages based on landscape and portrait orientation recently that should suggest the approach. The commands can be found in the JavaScript manual from Adobe.

This costing is done in SAP using production order confirmation.

How to make a play all menu and a play single movies menu

Hi, I'm a noob with Encore and trying to make a dvd menu, but can't seem to get it right.
I have in total 6 movieclips which I would like to make en menu for. I have made a menu, where there are a play all button and a kind of chapter button.
I have linked alle movies as end action to each other, expect the last of cause - paly all menu done - check
Then in the "chaptersmenu" I took the first clip and changed the override setting to the "chaptersmenu", but when I do that the link between clip 2 and 3 becomes dashed instead of solid, and when I preview it stops after the second clip on play all.
What am I doing wrong and how should I do it, to accomplis what I like?

Just to recap, so I understand it correct.
I link each movie specific button to the specific movie, with action of "last menu" and no override. Then for the play all, I create en playlist containing all movies, and the play all button is then linked to that playlist.
I'll try that when I get home. After I made the question yesterday, I came to think, if I could use Premiere to help me out. So I made a sequence, with all movies in, and created some chapter marks, and that I could get to Work in Encore. So now the computer is just sweating to create the dvd structure, so I can test it.
I don't know which is the correct way to do it, or if it just a matter of taste, but it seems that Premiere sequence requires a lot more space on the disk then with separate movies. But I have dual layer disks, so guess that doesn't make any difference.

Programmatically crawling single object(s)

My apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but I appear to have lost my portal.plumtree.com access...
Let's say you have a crawler. Works great, etc. You attach it to a job and blammo - content in portal. Magic. Wonderful. (profile services and crawler services ROCK, btw - the more I use them the more I realize how cool they are)
Let's say that crawl is fairly intensive, so you configure it to run every 3-4 hours to avoid beating the hell out of the system. BUT - within that window users are updating that external content store. Changes will not be reflected until the job runs/completes.
What's the best approach for executing that crawl for on a case-by-case basis? So - scenario is.
* We have an external store
* Crawl runs to bulk load content from external store into KD
* User submits new content to external store
* I want to programmaticaly fire that crawl, ideally targeting it to just that new content item that's been modified (I guess I re-run the whole operation, but... icky)
You can see where I'm going with this - we want to submit content through a portlet and then fire the crawl - consume the item and surface it in the KD - with minimal latency.
I know I could just have my "submitting" app ask the portal to append an operation to a dedicated on-demand job (or create a job on the fly, etc.), attach the crawl to it and then fire that job, but is that the best way to handle the situation? Is there a suggested way to scope the crawl to a given object or do you just let it run through the whole "what's been updated?" property check?
Again - my apologies if I'm asking a topic that's been addressed elsewhere. Not having my portal.plumtree.com access atm leaves me needing to ask more than I usually would :P

In this particular case the problem occurs if you shrink the window too much. What can happen is that the button gets moved onto the graph. When you then enlarge the window, the button remains on top of the graph. In the VI I uploaded the graph was the only thing that was being resized. In that particular setup resizing did not create any crazy conditions.
In your original example you seem to only want to resize the graph. Are you trying to find a solution that applies to all objects on the front panel, or to a single object? If it's a single object then it appears to me that the example I provided should be adequate. If it's all objects, then you have a lot more to consider because you have to consider the size of the objects relative the positions. Technically, a resize of the panel should resize objects, and not move them. Your original VI seems to also move the graph. However, you can run into problems if the growth is too large. For instance, what do you do if you make the button so large that it would cover the LED? Also, which way is the LED grown? Diagonally towards the left and bottom, or radially?

Those lines work for single object, and what I see in OMV, it should be the same for a group(?), but they don't work.

I got it. The lines are correct, mistake was before the lines - in the group definition. Here what I got and it's working:

Import/Export Single Object

Hi Folks,
i tested imort/export for SWCV it is working fine...but when i m trying it for single object like namespace etc...
I face the problem while exporting/importing a namespace in IR.
1) I exported a namespace using menu Tools->Export design Objects
2) Selected the software Component and Mode as using file system in the wizard
3) Selected my namespace which i want to export
got the message exported successfully.
Export Path: D:\usr\sap\PL2\SYS\global\xi\repository_server\export
File: XI3_0_TEST_2.0_of_xxx.com-nsps.tpz
I tried to import the same namespcae back into same IR.
and followed these step.
1) Copied the .tpz file into import folder.
2) then using the menu tool->import design Objects i selected my .tpz file
3) Got the following msg.
Import source XI3_0_TEST_2.0_of_xxx.com-nsps.tpz imported successfully. All imported design objects integrated successfully 3 import object(s) imported successfully
Import file moved to importedFiles\XI3_0_TEST_2.0_of_xxx.com-nsps_2007-02-13_02-41.tpz
But i was not able to see the imported namespace.

I m not trying to move it form DEV to QA.
I m exporting the namespace from DEV. say http://abc.com/xi/test of SWCV Test of abc.com.
and then i m trying to import it back to Same DEV box.
I m getting the sucessfully imported message but not able to see the namespace.
I tried deleting the namespace after exporting and then importing.
But still i can't see it.
However in cache notification and Tools->Find Transfer it is showing that it is sucessfully imported.
I think it might be the issue with active version... can u help me out.

Converting between .mkv .mov and .mp4

I have been given some h264 video files in .mkv format and am able to convert these to .mov by resaving them out to .mov from QuickTime Player 7.
I can change the file extension in Finder to .mp4 and they seem to then more or less behave as .mp4 files.
Are they actually .mp4, or QT doesn't care and just opens them anyway?
What is the best method of handling these files for widest usage on multiple devices?
I have read up as much as I can on the file formats but no-where does it say what OSX is actually doing when I change the extension.
Am I right in wanting them to be .mp4 files?

I didn't state the audio format(s) because it has rarely been an issue, if it fails it fails at the first hurdle. The container.
Non-AAC audio will likely fail to load/play if the MKV Extension is changed at the Finder Level. Using MPEG Streamclip to move the compressed data to a "real" MP4 file container will normally strip the audio from the final file. If you wish to retain the audio, use the QT 7 Pro "Movie to MPEG-4" option, use video passthrough, and transcode the audio to AAC.
Most of the .mkv files have aac audio, but not all. Chapters are irrelevant, never having found any nor thought them useful.
This is a user preference. I prefer to keep the original chapter markers for apps that use them rather than falling back on the defaulted markers added by some device players.
I am playing the files on several Macs, 2 PCs, an iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad 2 and possibly future Android devices. There are even 2 TVs which seem to be stuck with only reading avi.
Macs, iPhones, iPod Touch, and iPad will play H.264/AAC compressed data natively in MOV, MP4, or M4v file containers. PCs and Android playback will depend on the compatibility of the player app used on the device. Macs will play H.264 with any audio supported by your Mac codec component configuration in the MOV file container.
My main target however is a PS3, which has turned out to be the most flexible media device in the house but does object to some files for indeterminant reasons. I will need to do comprehensive testing to find exactly what it is it doesn't like. Mostly it is good, once you update the system.
Do not own a PS3 but believe it is supossed to be compatible iTunes and mobile device supported formats. Again, the file container of choice would depend on the content you wish to include in the file. If you want to include AC3 DD5.1 sourround soud audio, I would normally recommend the MV4 or MOV containers.
The secondary target is iTunes so that I can get the files onto my iPod Touch and iPhone. I'm sort of used to that level of Apple devices (and I presume AppleTV) "Just not working" unless it suits Apple. So I restrict my viewing to mp4 files of my own creation or mkv files so over the top in size that recompression does little to degrade them.
Again, the M4V file container with H.264/AAC with or without AC3 surround audio, alternative AAC audio, and/or chapters is usually the preferred norm. If you plan to use a "universal" file format, then the display dimensions, frame rate, profile, and level for encodes may depend on the specific devices involved. I.e., that is why I limit my files to 720p30 Main Profile Level 3.1 to High Profile Level 4.0 compression and rarely use even half (more commonly only about a quarter to a third) of the video data rates allowed with these settings.
XBMC and other Media Server software seem, like VLC to be pretty tolerant, and whilst I haven't yet built myself a Media Server, it is on my longer term To-Do list.
I use iTunes for in-house media server software to TV and mobile devices with Air Video as my primary server software externally via the internet to mobile devices when away from home. Both access the same Promise Pegasus R6 12 TB RAID storage device. (Have moved most of my content from an old Drobo Pro RAID and am in the process of upgrading the current 16 TB unit to 24 TBs as individual drives fail for the storage of raw video footage.)
The h264 should pass straight through in a simple QT resave? Same if it has AAC audio?
If the source MKV file is playback compatible with your system's current codec component configuration, then the QT 7 Pro or MPEG Streamclip "Save As..." option can copy the data in the MKV file directly to a new MOV file container without transcoding/recompressing any of the data. Unfortunately, the QT X player is a bit more iffy. Basically, Apple has combined the "Save, Export, and Save As..." options in to a single menu option. The result is that sometimes the app will recompress the data and at other times it may not—dependent on a numbe of variables.)
If the MKV file contains H.264 video and AAC audio, then the MPEG Streamclip "Save As..." option allows you to select either MOV or MP4 as the target file container. If the MKV file contains H.264 video but the audio is not AAC but is still export-compatible with the QT 7 Pro app, then you can use the QT 7 Pro "Movie to MPEG-4" Export option to pass the H.264 video unchanged to a new MP4 file container while simultaneously coverting the audio to AAC. Since you still have not stated what non-AAC formats are included in some of your MKV files, I cannot tell at this point if this is a viable workflow for you.
That covers most cases. I'm still not a 100% clear on tghe real differences between .mov and .mp4 containers and how much it really matters in the scheme of things. .mp4 seems to the go, does .mov cause a problem? If so how and how best to rectify that?
The containers are different. They have different internal identifiers, features, capabilities, and sometimes limitations. CDs, DVDs, and BDs are all different types of optical media but each has different capacities, ratings, and features that determine how they can be used, what kind of media can be recoded on it, and what kind of a device must be used for playback. MP4 containers are very limited. Thay can only conatain MPEG-4 (MPEG-4/H.264) video and MPEG-4 (AAC) audio. M4V file containers are less limited and may typically contain H.264 video, AAC and/or AC3 audio, and chapter tracks. MOV file containers are generic and can hold up to 99 tracks of audio, video, image, text, 'tween, sprite, etc. data that is compatible with the system on which it was created. As to MOV files causing a problem—yes and no, depending on how you use it. Put "muxed" MPEG-2 data in an MOV file in an MOV file container and it will play normally in the QT 7 player (with the QT MPEG-2 component installed)—i.e., no problem. But try to play the same file in the QT X player and it will tell you that you are missing a codec component—a definite problem since you tried to play playable content in a container the media player did not expect to contain that particular form of compression. As to fixing aproblem. I would be better able to answer that if I knoew what specific problem you were referring to here.
This is why I keep harping about knowing which player is to be used, what audio and video compression format is being used and what container is to be used. And we have not even gotten around to checking the H.264 settings. QT based players are standards conscious. Each Profile and level combination tells the player the max macroblock decoding rate, number of macroblocks allowed per frame, the maximum video data rate allowed, the highest useable resolution @ the highest frame rate, what features are supported by profile, etc. Unfortunately, some third-party venders sometimes hybridize these settings which can make the files unplayable in QT apps but they may still play on other players which do not check on or trap on the use of non-standard settings.
BTW I did a quick hunt around on h265 and can't see what Apple is doing. Giving it a miss like it did with Bluray?
Apple is not known for embracing such technology quickly—especially since they are still drafting and reviewing drafted standards. (I believe DivX released a draft version on the 15th of this month.) The current evolution of QT X will probably take another 5-7 years and Apple will have to design hardware capable of handling 4K and 8K if anyone is actually going to put it to use on future Mac systems. The development of mobile devices have, for the most part, only been supporting 1080p resolutions for a relatively short period and jumping to 8K would represent something of a quantum leap at the consumer level.

Multiple Materials on a single object

I'm sure I'm missing something...but I'm finding it impossible to use multiple materials form the 3D toolkit on a single object unless I separate the material differences to separate objects....which I'm sure is crazy. But if I import an object with multiple materials, there seems to be no way to assign the toolkit materials separately. If I drag a toolkit material to one part of the object...the entire object turns into that material. It would seem it would be right if you dragged a toolkit material to the materials list of the object....but that won't work either. Anyone know what I am missing here?

Right click on the object and select Tools -> Separate Meshes which will divide the object into it's component parts (i.e. parts that aren't part of the same polygonal mesh will be divided)
From there, you can apply materials to them individually.
To rejoin them (you don't have to) just select them all, then right click and select Tools -> Collapse Hierarchy.

Database storage for video, movies and slideshows?

hi all,
i am trying to see if there is software or a database that would let me organize my videos/slideshows/movies.
since i have ported to mac from PC i am seeing the following file types in my "video + slideshow" folder: wmv, pdf, 3gp, avi. mov, mp4 and m4v. my recollection is that these were either downloaded form the internet, created on some PC software or created using Keynote, Aperture or iPhoto.
i am also going to post on the adobe forum as i have purchase the Creative Suites package and if there is an adobe product that does this exceptionally well i would be happy to buy it.

It's the same as adding an iframe, at least in the Mac version. If you want to add other media types, you can, but you'd need to manually enter the code or at least manually set the embed/object parameters. For more info, try googling things like "object embed WMV video" or similar. For instance:
