Move CAS role to other server

Hi Exchange Server Expert,
We have 4 Hyper V VMs. Two of the VMs has been installed for Mailbox and the other Two for the transport. below is the details:
MB01 - Mailbox Server + CAS
MB02 - Mailbox Server
CT01 - Transport Server
CT02 - Transport Server + CAS
Both of the database server has some mailboxes inside. To be a standard, we want to move all the CAS role to the transport server.
what is the best way to move the CAS Role from MB01 to CT01?
Thanks for your attention.
Regards,
Henry

Yes SP3 upgrade is must - agreed. There have already been millions of installations so you should be good.
Did you ever bought any Certificate , if so then it can be exported from your existing CAS Server and if not then  you need a SAN Cert. One Certificate will work for both CAS Servers.
Since Steve mentioned the CAS Array I'm writing these step but this was not the original forum request and now it will lead to have a load balancer and another detail on whether to go for Hardware Load Balancer , WNLB or Virtual Load balance.. again out
of the ctop e of this question.
Now for the CAS Array pikcup an internaal name and ip ..
e.g. mapi.testserver.com and point it to the IP address of your load balancer 192.168.1.11 and create HOST A record in your DNS andthen Load balancer will manage the HA part from here.
here is a scenario which explain the CAS Array

  • Redundant Hub and CAS roles for exchange server

    Hello ,
currently we have 2 mailbox servers , 1 DAG server and 1 HUB,CAS server ( hub and cas roles in same server )
i am looking to have a backup server incase the hub CAS server goes down  ..  or to have a redundant server for HUBCAS  incase if it goes down the other one will go up and the users will use the second one automatically
how can i achieve that ?
    appreciated your help

    Hello,
If you use exchange 2010 server, I recommend you deploy multiple CAS servers as member of CAS array.
As your requirement, you need to deploy CAS NLB, the failover will occurs automatically.

  • Move large database to other server using RMAN in less downtime

    Hi,
We have large database around 20TB. We want to migrate (move) the database from one server to other server. We do not want to use standby option.
    1)     How can we move database using RMAN in less downtime
    2)     Other than RMAN is there any option is available to move the database to new server
For option 1 (restore using RMAN),
    Whether below options are valid?
If this option is valid, how to implement this?
    1)     How can we move database using RMAN in less downtime
    a)     Take the full backup from source (source db is up)
    b)     Restore the full backup in target (source db is up)
    c)     Take the incremental backup from source (source db is up)
    d)     Restore incremental backup in target (source db is up)
    e)     Do steps c and d, before taking downtime (source db is up)
    f)     Shutdown and mount the source db, and take the incremental backup (source db is down)
    g)     Restore last incremental backup and start the target database (target is up and application is accessing this new db

    Simple:
I do this all the time to relocate file system files... But the principle is the same. You can do this in iterations so you do not need to do it all at once:
Starting 8AM move less-used files and more active files in the afternoon using the following backup method.
    SCRIPT-1
    RMAN> BACKUP AS COPY
    DATAFILE 4 ####"/some/orcl/datafile/usersdbf"
    FORMAT "+USERDATA";
Do as many files as you think you can handle during your downtime window.
During your downtime window: stop all applications so there is no contention in the database
    SCRIPT-2
    ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE 4 offline;
    SWITCH DATAFILE 4 TO COPY;
    RECOVER DATAFILE 4;
    ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE 4 online;
I then execute the delete of the original file at somepoint later - after we make sure everything has recovered and successfully brought back online.
    SCRIPT-3
    DELETE DATAFILECOPY "/some/orcl/datafile/usersdbf"
For datafiles/tablespaces that are really busy, I typically copy them later in the afternoon as there are fewer archivelogs that it has to go through in order to make them consistent. The ones in the morning have more to go through, but less likelihood of there being anything to do.
Using this method, we have moved upwards 600G at a time and the actual downtime to do the switchover is < 2hrs. YMMV. As I said, this can be done is stages to minimize overall downtime.
If you need some documentation support see:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e18951/asm_rman.htm#CHDBDJJG
And before you do ANYTHING... TEST TEST TEST TEST TEST. Create a dummy tablespace on QFS and use this procedure to move it to ASM to ensure you understand how it works.
Good luck! (hint: scripts to generate these scripts can be your friend.)

Read about 'Transportable tablespace' and about 'cross platform transport' topics from oracle 10g and oracle 11g documentation. In 9i it's not possible.

  • Move out Info Provider to other server without transport connection?

    Hi All,
Could you share you thought ?
Is there a possibility to move out the info provider design & info object to other server without transport connection ?
The background is our project box will be decommissioned, and unfortunately it's not connected to development box. We've already found how to move out ABAP program, we generate it to XML, than upload it.
How about for info provider itself / info Object ? Is there a possibility to have the same treatment ?
Any thought from all of you ?
If you have the way, appreciate if you can share it to me.
Thanks a lot and have a good day,
    Best regards,

    Hi,
From transport side, it is possible. You can create a dummy transport target system, then collect BI objects in request and release it. After release, the exported data is in dir_trans, you can manually copy it to realy target server, put them in dir_trans, and in STMS import Q, select from menu of import external request and import it.

  • What is the role of BIS server in blackberry?

What is the role of BIS server in blackberry?

    Thanks in advance

    intisar wrote:
BIS refer to blackberry internet service ..it is just like an ISP = internet service provider...
    Hello,
Actually, not quite "just like". An ISP provides primary internet connectivity to a computer/network, along with often other services (email, web, and other hostings). Most more recent BBs can, with no BIS-level service and using WiFi only, access the Internet just fine for web browsing and some other services. Further, many can, with just a generic data plan, access the same things via the Carrier Data Network. But, in neither case will any of the BB-proprietary services (e.g., BBM, email, BB Protect, etc.) function at all...all BB proprietary services require subscription to an adequate data plan from the mobile service provider.
There further are many different levels of BIS plans...there are hundreds of carriers in the world, some with dozens of different BB data plans available. Some provide email and social networking only, but no web browsing. Others provide web and internet, but no social networking. And there can be quite a large number of variations given all of the different BB proprietary services. But, in all cases, they are provided by BIS...so BIS itself is the overall umbrella of BB-proprietary services, with the different carrier data plans enabling different mixes of those various available services...it all depends on what the user subscribes to from their mobile service provider.
    Hope that helps!

  • Moving users to other server

I have 3 different users databases of Oracle XE on one dedicated server. Now we bought 3 dedicated servers and installed Oracle XE separately. The OS is CentOS Enterprise Linux 5
I want to move these user1 database on server-1, user2 database on server-2 and user3 database on server-3 respectively. I am thinking about the exp utility but want to get your opinion that this will be better in my case or I have to do something else?
    Thanks & best regards

    Raakh,
Sorry the syntax for export was incorrect, here is right syntax of exporting the entire user using conventional export/import. If you are using 10g, then you can make use of datapump
You can export multiple scheam seperated by comma and later you can import one by by to target machiens.
      exp system/password owner=userA file=myexportuserA.dmp log=myexportuserA.log
imp system/password fromuser=userA touser=userA file=myexportuserA.dmp log=myimporuserA.logFor datapump, see following link for detailed exmaples

    Hi Experts,
I am facing issue while installing exchange 2013 sp1 in mixed(2007, 2010 and 2013) environment, the issue is: CAS role not installing/configuring "Echangeweb" (ews) virtual directory if i install only CAS role. If i install CAS role and mailbox

In single CAS role installation, "EWS" folder is creating inside "Exchangeweb" folder but it shows empty folder.

Agree with Martina. I install Exchange 2013 CAS server and Mailbox server separately. "exchweb" folder exists on Mailbox server only. Here is the exchweb folder information on Mailbox server for your reference.
Here is the ews folder information on CAS server for your reference.

  • Move database to the new server

    Hello,
I have 10.2.0.1 Standard Edition database (7GB, not in archivelog mode) on Windows2003 server, and need to move it to the new server (same environment). I thought to use OEM Clone option, but it appears cloning to the other host is working only in Grid - and I have DB Control.
I know about manual cloning/recreation, but now looking into export and import option. So I think to install Oracle database on the new server, then import some relevant tablespaces exported from the old database. I will use datapump utility in OEM, under system username.
Is that a good approach ? What rules should be applied to avoid problems in that case ? Sorry if it's very basic question, never moved database before.
    Marina

Options for porting the database from one server to another after installing Oracle on the new server incldue
    Export/Import using expdp/impdp
    Rman duplicate to compatiable hardware
Rman file conversion to non-compatiable hardware
On advantage of expdp/impdp is this option supports reconfiguring the database tablespace/file/object storage layout as part of the migration. Also the adoption of new features like ASSM.
A disadvantage is that using expdp/impdp will probably be slower and involve more DBA work than using file copies via rman. There are approaches to reduce the clock time necessary to support export/import and the work is often beneficial for long-term database management efforts.
There have been threads on this topic before and failry recently. You might want to hunt one or two of them down.

  • Role of integration server ?

    Hi Guys,
I have the client 001 and defined the role as integration server, i have another client
200 which is defined as the application server.
we did all development in client 200 and when we are testing messages , it is saying that it is not defined as integration server. How to resolve this issue ?
cant we have more than one client defined as integration server ?
any help would be greatly appreciated and awarded
    Thanks,
    srini

    Hi -
<i>>>>cant we have more than one client defined as integration server ?</i>
No.  Only one client as integration server, but you seem to state that this is the case since client 200 is defined as application system.
Assume you have defined the technical and business system of the integration server and another bs for your client 200 app. system.  Check your Business System Role in the SLD for each of these business systems as well.
More info on the test scenario would help...

  • Modifying TS CALS from 20 TS CALS transferring 10 to other server

Modifying TS CALS from 20 TS CALS  transferring 10 to other server.
Please help can we transfer half of 20 TS CALS to other server?
    Kindly advise :)

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
What’s your TS server OS version? Which CAL you have (Is it Per User or Per Device CAL)?
For moving CALs from one server to other. You must see that License server is installed on other server. Also the License server must be activated before you move the CALs. You need to specify the target server and might need to call MS Clearing house and explain
them the whole scenario and they will help you in your case.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh553155(v=ws.10).aspx
You must see that both the server (source and Destination) have same version OS. Because if you want to move your CAL from server 2008 to server 2012\R2 then it can’t be possible because lower version of CAL is not supported on higher version. But reverse can
    be possible.

  • Move Publisher backup to new server( Cold Standby Server) ?

We have CUCM cluster consist of 1 publisher, 4 subscriber and have installed a new node like another cluster's publisher(with diferent ip address from existing publisher) . When existing publisher goes down we will move publisher backup to new server and change publisher ip address to new server on existing subscribers.
    is it posible ?
Our aim is using new server for publisher down issue.(like cold standby server but diferent ip address from existing publisher)
Or is there any better way to install publisher backup on on branch? When publisher goes down we will use the new server like publisher.

    Hi
Re: NTP... you can have multiple NTP servers assigned, and only the primary NTP server is used for license MAC generation. As such, I would:
    1) set the primary NTP server to be the real NTP address you want to use. This will not be accessible when you build the server with the old servers' IP.
    2) set the secondary NTP server to an accessible NTP server. I do this by setting up NTP on the server you serve the SFTP backup file from. I use Meinberg NTP if this is a Windows box, it's free.
That way you can build the server (primary NTP not accessible, but secondary is so it's fine). Then after the restore, change IP address and it will start using the primary NTP server.
I presume deployment type refers to product and role .e.g. a CUCM Publisher, not a CUC server or CUCMBE publisher.
