Move catalog from laptop with PSE8 to destop with PSE9

I have a laptop that has Photoshop Elements 8. I just got the trial version of Photoshop Elements 9 and loaded it electronically onto a desktop. I would like to get my catalog from the laptop over to the desktop.

Use the back-up and restore facility within PSE. An external hard drive is best, but CD's can be used.
1. Make back-up on the laptop
2. Use the TLY file created at step 1 to restore to the desktop
It's best to let PSE9 decide the new folder structure if the computers have different operating systems e.g. transferring from XP to Windows 7 otherwise trying to preserve existing file paths may cause problems.

The above tech note refers to PSE6 but the procedure is the same.

I NEED TO SHARE MY LR CATALOGS FROM LAPTOP TO MAC AND EVEN IPAD WITH NO EXTERNAL DEVICES - I WOULD LIKE ANY EDIT I MAKE FROM ONE COMPUTER TO BE MADE ON THE OTHER - HOW DO I DO THIS ?? THANKS!!

All the info you do with your image files is stored in the Lightroom Catalog file. The Catalog file cannot be located on a network it must have a physical connection to the computer.
While the Catalog is in use a LOCK file will be temporarily placed alongside which prevents its use by any other device.

  • Updating LR catalog from laptop to desktop

i exported a catalog from my desktop to work on it on my laptop. i have made many changes on my laptop, exported it as a catalog from there, but when i go to import it back into my desktop catalog i receive a message "you can not import from an active lightroom catalog".

  • PSE 8 - move catalog from external to internal HD

On my old computer, I moved my catalog from an internal hard drive to an external one.  After ages and ages of reconnecting files, I backed it up, put the external HD on the new computer, and restored it.  Now I want to copy or move all the files from the slow external HD to the faster internal one.  But I can't figure out how to do this?  Only the catalog moved but not the individual files.
    Any suggestions?

Excellent point.  I should have been more specific.
    What I did was:
File->backup catalog to CD, DVD or Hard Drive
    followed by
File->restore catalog from CD, DVD or Hard Drive
I then selected restore files and catalog to new location, specified a new location on drive C, and selected restore original folder structure.
After all that, I have all my photos but when I click on show properties for one of them, it lists its location as being on the external HD and not the internal drive C.
    Hope this helps.

  • Loading CS2 from laptop with Windows XP to new laptop with Windows 7

Hello, I just purchased a new laptop with Windows 7 on it, and am wondering if I can install my CS2 software onto it. I had it on my old laptop which had Windows XP. I don't see
Windows 7 on my installation CDs as an OS I can use the software with. Not wanting to buy all new as I am a novice user, not a professional graphics person. Can I
load this version on my new laptop?

  • How do I move photos from laptop to desktop WITH Lightroom Edits?

I have Lightroom on my laptop and on my desktop.
I've just done a big shoot with my camera tethered to Lightroom on my laptop, and applied some develop settings as the photos were imported.  I also did a little cropping and a few other adjustments when I stopped shooting for lunch.
Now, I'd like to move these photos with the edit history to my desktop machine because it's got the big guns for processing photos.
How do I do this?  There must be a way!
    Thanks so much!
    --Michael

In LR on the laptop, in the Library module select the photos you want to move.
    "Export as catalog".
On the desktop, in LR "import from catalog" using the exported catalog.
Or you could just import the whole laptop catalog depending on your needs.

  • How to move photos from laptop to ipad?

How can I move photo files from by laptop to my ipad?

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • What is best way to move pictures from laptop to EHD pse10

I have gotten differing views on the best way to move my pictures from my laptop (to free up space) to an EHD while keeping PSE10 on my computer.  When I want to do something in PSE10 I would connect my EHD.
It has been suggested to follow the pse10 "back up" procedure but there are no directions on how to get the program to read the EHD after the back up is made (so pse10 can find my pictures on the EHD).
It has been suggested to do a "drag and drop" procedure but I have not been able to get step by step directions for this for pse10.
Can someone please assist me in this task with good directions.  I am marginally literate in these things, probably enough to make a big mess if I tried this without consult.
If no one can answer this is there a next level that one can go to?
I have tried chat with Adobe help and they won't help me because I do not have the newest version of pse.

    One more thing...
I have a MacBook pro that I'm using to connect to the thunderbolt drives. I believe I should be able to just connect my pc to the Mac via an Ethernet cable and network them, yes? Well, I tried that and could not get it to work. My pc never saw the new network.
You see, part of the problem actually has nothing to do with the transfer process at all. The movie comes with 12tb of footage files. That's ALL the footage shot during their 18 day schedule. However, only certain shots, about 4tb worth, made it into the final cut of the film, and the editor did not separate those shots out for me. So now, I am responsible for manually sifting through all the footage and copying over just the shots that made the final cut. I have a list of the shots needed, and I have an exfat formatted 500gb usb2 drive that so far is performing as well as out can, but it's an incredibly slow process that is compounded by the slow, usb2, copy speeds I'm currently getting.
Would a network connection handling such large amounts of transfers be faster than usb 2?
And also, I tried a free pc utility that allows my pc to read and write to Mac drives, but the transfer speed was so slow that I abandoned that strategy. Would Paragon have faster speeds?

  • At sea trying to move photos from laptop to desktop

I have two copies of LR 1.41. The desktop runs Vista Home Premium SP1 and the laptop runs XP SP3.
Please, someone give me a straighforward way to move these files so that the edits show up in the desktop. I have tried exporting, exporting as a catalog (?), and some other things. (I cannot be the only photographer who uses a laptop in the field and a desktop at home and who does not want to burn numerous DVDs.) How can this simple task be done readily, please?

    Hi Adrian,
You start off with one folder on one computer, and it contains files 1, 2, 3 etc. If you goto prefferences, you can set it so that LR carries the changes you've made to each file in a side car file which will be saved (by LR) alongside the original files. So you now have your files and sidecar files sitting along side each other in the same folder, ie 1, 1.xmp, 2, 2.xmp, 3, 3.xmp etc. When you want to use the other computer you simply copy over the folder onto the other computer and import them. If you then make any changes to the files, these changes will be held within the xmp side car files. If you then want to take these changes back to the original folder on the original computer, just select the xmp side car files and copy them into your original folder (overwriting the ones that were there). The trick then is to ensure that LR "sees" these changes - this you do by "synchronising" the folder, and telling it to "scan for meta data updates" (all in the synchronise folder dialog box).

  • Recording audio from laptop with T420s and combo port

    Hi All,
I sometimes need to run my companys application and record the spoken messages for demo's etc. Previously, I did this simply by playing the messages through the laptop speakers and at the same time using the Windows Sound Recorder to record it from the laptop microphone (I didn't even need to use external speakers or microphone).
Now, with the new T420s that I have, when I speak into the laptop microphone it records my voice fine but when I use an application to play messages through the laptop speakers, the recorder does not pick up an sounds......is this a result of this "combo" port........if so, is there any way round it ?

I meant what if you recorded just your voice, then added the audio from your demo after the fact?
The sound chip takes the microphone input, and subtracts the speakers sound. This is what is needed most of the time, but in your case, it seems to be the exact opposite. Not sure if this can be disabled in SmartAudio.
You'll probably need Virtual Audio Cable to record multiple streams.

  • How do I convert music files so I can move this from laptop to iPhone?

I purchases some music from Buymusic.com that I have stored on my laptop in the Windows Media Player; the music files are .wpl - not sure what that means. When I attempt to move this music to my iPhone I get a message that indicates I have to convert the files. From iTunes I selected File, add file to library and I selected the artist from my play list. Am I doing this correctly or am I jacked up? This is where I'm told the files must be converted. I have over 200 songs I'm trying to move. Thanks,
PS - Not a technical person - all this computer stuff is new to me, so please give it to me in the simpliest form. Thanks.

Thanks a million for your suggestions, but I received the following message:

    Source folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Quint\My Documents\My Music\
    Details:
Windows Audio Converter did not convert the file because the output file already existed, and the option to skip conversion if output file exists was selected.
This came up for all 200 songs.
Looking forward to any other suggestions you might have. You can also email me at [email protected]
    Thanks again,

  • Move VM from server with DC to server with no DC

I need to move my newly created VM's to new server that does not have a DC. I run two web servers, small business and do not need a DC environment. My Web servers are just the way I want them , I did not want to rebuild everything so I did a P2V via the
    SCVMM SP1 instructions.
I set up a DC on a VM to ran the SCVMM SP1 and now have my VM's that work great on the Host when logged into the Domain.
    PROBLEM:
When I log the host off the Domain the VM's are no longer available.
If I log the host computer back onto the Domain, the VM's are both available.
1: I can not import the VM's into the Hyper V manager unless Host is logged on Domain - WHY.
2: The VM's should run on the host without having to be logged onto the Domain.
3: How do I disconnect the VM's from the domain to run on a workgroup.
One VM's is logged on to the domain, that is the DC VM. The other is not and never was.
Problem is the Hyper V Manager requires I be logged onto domain to see VM's.
    Anyone have a simple answer.
    Thanks

    Answers to your questions.
By default VM's on a hyperV host are designed to run, the behavior you describe make me think you virtual switches and networks are not setup properly.
1: I removed all virtual switched - Problem still exists
HyperV hosts should not have the DC role installed on them.
2: AD was added to a VM on a system that was used to run the SCVMM SP1 to create the VM from Physical - P2V. SCVMM REQUIRES A DOMAIN - I DID NOT HAVE ONE SO I CREATED A DOMAIN CONTROLLER ON THE VM THAT COMES WITH SCVMM.
3: I am thinking about doing the P2V again - Maybe the Host was not setup as a Workgroup Host ( do not know it that is possible ). But that will be after I wipe the system and see if I can import the VM's while on a workgroup environment.
How many physical network cards do you have in each hyperv host?
4: Four NICS - 2 NICS on board, 2 on Card. The host is connected via IP to DC. All Virtual Switches have been removed. Same problem with or w/o, v/switches. I can see the VM's only while logged onto domain.
What are their connections i.e. LAN, WAN?
5: Only LAN - I can access WAN if I connect to it. From the host all times. From the VM's ( while logged on to domain. I understand that the physical will become the virtual NIC.
Do you have any of your virtual networks assigned to "Internal" this network will not be able to communicate with other computers only other VM's on the same host.
    6: NO
Make sure none of your Physical network cards on the hosts have IP information assigned to them, once they are added as a virtual network even the hyperv host communicates via a virtual network card. so if you have a physical network card in a hyperv host
ip 10.0.0.1 abd you add the adapter to hyperv virtual switch the ip address should get assigned to a new virtual adapter and the existing physical adapter will become a switch with no ip information. the only service that should be running on it in network
    connections is "virtual switch"
    7: Yes
HyperV hosts don't even have to be on the same subnet as the VM's the behavior you describe tells me they are communicating with the host for something.
8: That is why I have removed the virtual Switches. NOTE: When I log the Host onto the Domain then I can see VM's. So yes, there is something, authority / permissions affecting the access to VM's. This was NOT expected. I will wipe the
HOST system and try to import VM's.
What OS are you using if it's 2012 or 2012 r2 you can safely run the DC's as a VM, even if you are running a failover cluster, if you are 2008 r2 and have a failover cluster you really need a least one physical DC otherwise the cluster service will not start
    properly
9: 2012 - want  to upgrade to R2 as soon as I get the VM's working. You can not do the P2V in R2.
Lot of information sorry to be lengthy.
NOTE: I am going to wipe the  host and see if the VM's will run.
After if that does not work I will re-do the P2V via SCVMM.

  • Trying to move pics from iMac with iPhoto '08 to an iMac with iPhoto '11

I'm attempting to move my photo library from an old iMac with iPhoto '08 to a new iMac with iPhoto '11.  The old iMac is so old that I can't use Migration Assistant.  I tried using a WD external hard drive "formatted HFS+ journaled."  Once i dragged the library from the EHD to the new iMac, I couldn't upload the photos using the instructions given elsewhere in this forum.  At one point, after many combinations of clicks and keystrokes, the new iMac uploaded everything (including duplicates), imported the photos, and the pictures disappeared when I closed and reopened iPhoto.  Any tips?

Do not use migration assistant it does not do a good job
The iPhoto library can not be on a disk formated anything except Mac OS extended (journaled)
Never import one iPoto library into anothe iPhoto library which is appearently what you did
Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formed Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
