Move Chrome bookmarks to Safari

I have hundreds of Chrome bookmarks and want to move them to Safari on Lion (Chrome is just too buggy to use for me right now )
I exported the bookmarks from Chrome to a bookmarks.html. Then I imported that file into Safari.
That does bring over the bookmarks - but the Chrome bookmarks on the Chrome Bookmarks Bar are not in the Safari bookmarks bar. There are too many (about a hundred) to move them manually. How can I get my Safari bookmarks bar looking like my Chrome one.
(Just to be clear, in Chrome, one can have bookmarks that are not on the Bookmarks Bar. They are on a separate menu, organized into folders. And in Chrome, a bookmarks bar can have hundreds of bookmarks - one can click on an extension to see a drop down list of the rest of them.)

This may help.

  • Enable the extension to keep chrome bookmarks up to date with the safari bookmarks on your iphone

on my laptop icloud comes up and tells me i need to enable the extension to keep chrome bookmarks up to date with the safari bookmarks on your iphone! if someone could help me i would be grateful !!

Once you click "get new recovery key" all data on your sync account is erased forever. There is no way to get that back. If you have data on your iPhone you cannot move it from your iPhone to desktop Firefox. the iPhone sync is 1-way only. Unless you have a Firefox profile somewhere, you will ahve to manually rebuild your bookmarks.

  • Sync Safari and Chrome bookmarks using Windows?

I've got PC that is powered by Windows Vista, I like to use iTunes to sync my media to my phone and never had any problems with it except syncing bookmarks. The deal is that I like to use Google Chrome vs. Safari therefore all of my bookmarks are in Chrome thou Safari is another one of my favorite browsers. I like Safari for some of its features and cause its apple product so I stick with it and Google Chrome for being userfriendly and its interface.
Now how do keep these two browser bookmarks insync so that just by going into iCloud in my Control Panel and having bookmarks there being synced with Safari while I'm making changes in Google Chrome everything stays insync. Or is there an alternative?

You can use xmarks http://www.xmarks.com which does a decent job.  Not seemless and I'd definitely make a backup first.

  • How do you move bookmarks in safari on a G4 to an iMac?

I've tried everything that I can think of! Connected my iMac and G4 together and tried to "Import Bookmarks" and have no option to choose safari on my G4. Put my G4 safari on an external drive and hooked it to my iMac. Same results. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm using version 4.1 on my G4 and version 5.0.1 on my iMac.

    HI David,
You need to go to File/Export Bookmarks (in Safari) on the G4, save the file to the Desktop.
(Target Disk Mode?) Then on the iMac in Safari, go to File/Import Bookmarks.
How to use Target Disk Mode

  • Why can't I use iCloud for Chrome bookmarks? I don't use Safari.

I want to be able to sync Chrome bookmarks between our two iMacs. This way my wife's iMac wil broadcast her bookmarks from any given session to a user account I have set up on my iMac in our bedroom for her so they can be always in sync.
I tried to see if iCloud could do this task but it seems completely unable to handle it.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    geo
PS: I should include that my wife is disabled. Stairs are a big problem for her, so when she wants to resume using her account from her iMac but do so from our bedroom, she would really like it if the bookmarks were always updated this way.
She prefers to use Chrome so if she gets messages from family overseas, they are translated into English automatically.

Apple and MicroSoft rule your choices in exactly the same way. They offer products for sale and you buy or you don't. You don't design or get to pick which products they offer, you choose between them. Just like cars, aeroplanes and cookers. Don't read too much into this. It's not about your rights.
As far as I'm concerned, since I paid for the computer I certainly insist and demand on being able to do what I want with it within the limits of law and be limited by no one else's decisions regarding software.
Absolutely. And you are. You can do anything you want with it and are not limited in any way. You're free to use any software or service that you like.
But that's not the same as saying you get to demand what services are offered to you. Apple - or Google, or MicroSoft or anybody else - make their products as they think fit. If they meet your needs then by all means use them. If they don't, then use some other one, develop your own or find some other solution.
But you don't get to insist and demand what those products are, or the services that they provide. This is the same with every product. You don't get to demand that your food processor should also be a cooker. You don't get to demand that Apple provice syncing services for Google products. You don't get to demand the opposite. You get to choose which syncing service you prefer. Or to use none. Or find some other solution.

  • Cannot delete or add bookmarks in Safari 8.0.3 on my iMac

Although I've been a Mac user forever, I've always preferred Google products, especially Chrome.  I decided to give Safari another try after updating to 8.0.3 but am ready to go right back to Chrome and just deal with the syncing issues.
I am trying to personalize Safari and absolutely cannot get the bookmarks to change.  I do NOT want Bing, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or Yahoo in my favorites (they aren't MY favorites, goshdarnit!) but no matter how I try to delete them (right-click, delete; drag into the desktop; delete from the menu) they always pop back when I restart Safari.
Moreover, any bookmarks I add (including bookmark folders) disappear as soon as I log out.  I have researched the issue (clearly I'm not alone with this problem) and have tried the following:
    1.  Opened iCloud preferences from Finder and unchecked the box next to Safari.  Restarted computer.  No love.
    2.  Another user asked a similar question (it wasn't answered) and someone suggested he try to move the bookmarks.plist to the desktop and then relaunch Safari.   I tried to move bookmarks.plist to the desktop and relaunch Safari but when I got to the part in the instructions where I was to paste bookmarks.plist into the "Go To" text box in Finder, I got the error message that "library can't be found.
I have also "turned the computer off and turned it back on again" several times, just to make sure.
I'm at a loss.  I'm not *that* computer savvy so I've been reluctant to do anything that requires going into directories and typing a lot of stuff that looks suspiciously like code  :-)
So now I'm stuck with these stupid "favorite" bookmarks stinking up my favorites bar and no way to add my own.  I have checked Safari settings on my iPad and iPhone (both brand new and everything updating to iCloud and supposedly synced) and they both have different preset favorites than the ones on the iMac.  I have only tried to save bookmarks on the iMac.
    TIA!

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    resetp
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Is organising bookmarks in Safari REALLY this lame?

For such a supposedly excellent browser, this is driving me mad! There seems to be no way for me to organise my bookmark folders in 'Show All Bookmarks' without the folders that I am trying to move being placed into other, existing bookmark folders, thus utterly compromising the entire purpose of a categorised bookmarks system!! In Google Chrome, all I have to do is click on the 'Organise' drop down in 'Bookmark Manager' and hey-presto, I can alphabetise my folders and individual bookmarks by title.
I was hoping to be able to do the same in Safari i.e. organise my folders and individual bookmarks so that they are in alphabetical order. However, when I try to move a newly created folder so that it fits in between existing folders and is thus into the correct alphabetical sequence, the folders either side of the new folder 'open up' and I have no choice but to drop the new folder into an existing yet utterly unrelated folder or leave it at the bottom of the bookmarks folders list where it is NOT alphabetised.
    1) For example, say I have the following folders:
    → A
    → B
    → D
    → E
    → F
    2) I now wish to create a new folder:
    → A
    → B
    → D
    → E
    → F
    → (New Folder)
    3) I wish to rename this New Folder - 'C'
    → A
    → B
    → D
    → E
    → F
    → C
    4) As you can see, the New Folder is not alphabetised, so I need to drag and drop it between Folder B and Folder D, however:
    → A
    ↓    B
         → C
    → D
    → E
    → F
It is not possible for me to drag New Folder C so that it drops in between Folder B and Folder D, but only for me to drop New Folder C INTO Folder B. The contents of folder B and New Folder C are totally unrelated so I have no reason to associate them in such a way, yet have no choice. My only alternative is to leave New Folder C at the bottom of the bookmark folder list (see part 3 above).
Does anyone know how I can re-order my bookmark folders alphabetically? I've tried Safari help > Organise Bookmarks but all that does is suggest the same, ineffective drag and drop method as I have described above.
    Many thanks
    Jon

I totally agree. Organising bookmarks in Safari is clunky and amateurish.  I actually like the Browser but the devil is in the detail and this the one thing is stopping me using it.  I constantly go back to it and see if I can get it to work but eveytime it drives me mad.
Firefox is sooo easy and slick.  Have a look Apple.

  • How to get back my Bookmarks in Safari in Mt. Lion?

Installation of Mt. Lion preserved the Bookmarks in Firefox and Chrome but not Safari. Am trying to follow the online instructions on importing into Safari, but Firefox is greyed out! How do I find the bookmarks imported into Chrome and transfer them to Safari?  Also, how do I get the automatic password function to work again in Safari instead of always requiring me to enter my Word Press pass in order to access my web site? (It says LastPass cannot be used anymore.)

The Camera Roll is included in device backups, if you backup to iTunes or iCloud. If the missing photos have been stored in the Camera Roll, restore your iPhone from the last backup you made before the upgrade to iOS 8.

  • Remove bookmark in safari

I have a bookmarked a reputable company for easy access.
Log-in icon, easy and secure, no problems.
Weeks ago, I entered a wrong password, and a page stating "error" appeared. log-in was successful when reset and again, secure, and safe.
Now this page is still appearing any time I press the log-in button to access the secure logging in page, when I go to bookmark.
OK, I removed the whole bookmark from safari, accessed the general web site of the company, and whenever I try to access the log-in page, (not even bookmarked!) I immediately get the same error page!, again and again, without even entering any data or user name or attempted password.
This "error" page must have been stored somewhere on my MBA.
How can I remove this and start a fresh bookmark?

Might be a cookie or cache causing this..
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:   Remove All Website Data
Then quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that doesn't help, delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • Transfer chrome bookmarks to iPad?

I use Google Chrome on my iMac and would like to transfer (sync) my bookmarks with Safari on my iPad.  Thanks.

I'm not sure that you can sync bookmarks with Google Chrome - you can with Safari, so a work-around would be to export them from Chrome, import them into Safari, and then chose that on the iPad's Info tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.

  • Chrome showing in safari collections

Why is Chrome showing up in Safari Collections?  I cannot find a way to delete it.

If you have Glims installed, open Safari then click Safari on the menu bar, then go to Preferences, then a window called Glims should open.
On the left, you should see a list and on that list, click Bookmarks.
Once you've clicked that, there should be tick boxes and at the bottom, you should see the option, Add Chrome bookmarks to collections - untick that and you won't see Chrome on Collections anymore.
    Hope this helps

  • Transferring Google chrome bookmarks! How please??

Hello! I have just updated to a Macbook pro from my macbook. I'm finding it difficult to transfer my Google chrome bookmarks over? i dont have wifi atm so ive used an external hard drive to transfer! Which has worked well.......Except the Bookmarks? any ideas please?
    Thanks Guys

You could export the chrome bookmarks (as an html file) from your macbook, move the html file over to your new macbook pro, and import that html file into chrome there.
In chrome, Bookmarks menu, select Bookmark Manager.  A new tab will open with all your bookmarks.
Near the top of the bookmarks list is a toolbar that says "Bookmark Manager" and "Organize".  Left click the "Organize" and a menu will come up under it where the last two items are for exporting and importing.  Use them to create (export) the bookmark html file and to import that file on your new machine.

  • Can bookmarks in Safari 5.1.10 be migrated to Yosemite's safari version?

I have OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) and I would like to but a new computer with Yosemite and the newest version of Safari. Can I move the bookmarks in the earlier version of Safari 5.1.10 to the latest one with Yosemite on another new computer? I have a late 2007 imac

For you it requires an upgrade of OS X. Since you have 10.6.8 installed you can upgrade directly to Yosemite for free provided your hardware meets the requirements:
    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks/Yosemite - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Yosemite
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Now there is an issue on Apple's server that seems to keep users with 10.6.8 from downloading Yosemite. Apple is working on the problem, so be patient and keep trying
