Move elements 11 to  new computer

i replaced my laptop with Windows XP to a new computer with windows 8.1
how do i move elements 11 to the new computer?

If you use the organizer, make a full backup using the organizer's backup command, then restore it to the new computer (may want to use a removable drive for this). Deactivate your copy on the old computer (if you won't be using it there anymore) by going to Editor>Help>Deactivate. Then install PSE from scratch on the new machine and run the restore.

  • HT1329 IT SHOULD NOT BE THIS F&*^%$#  HARD TO MOVE TO A NEW COMPUTER

Followed every step to move to a new computer and the instructions were so incredibly dense  I think I flubbed a step.  It tells you to drag the Itunes folder on the new computer to the desktop.  I did that and then copied the itunes folder from the ipod as a disk to the desktop itunes file.  This is where I think I  went wrong.  Unfortunately it took me awhile to figure this out and I already had deleted the created file from the ipod as disk.  I moved the desktop file back to my music and now I believe I just have my files a little too deeply embedded in my music folder.  I have two >itunes in my path.  Is there a easy way to correct this without starting from scratch?

It is important to keep the "big picture" in mind when you do this procedure.  The procedure covers ALL the possibilies, and many of them do not even apply to your situation.
Here's the big picture...  When iTunes runs, it looks for the iTunes folder in your user account home folder.  That iTunes folder is located in Music.  On your old computer, you should have copied that iTunes folder (after doing the "consolidation" steps) to the iPod (which is being used like an external drive).
On your new computer, iTunes is using its iTunes folder.  So, what you are doing is moving that existing iTunes folder "out of the way."  (iTunes should not be running when you do this.)  If you don't have any new songs on the new computer, you can just delete that iTunes folder.  Now, copy the iTunes folder from the old computer (on the iPod) to that same location, to take the place of the new computer's iTunes folder.  Now, when you run iTunes, it will find your iTunes folder from the old computer and use it.  iTunes will look like iTunes running on the old computer.
So that's a summary of all of those low-level steps.  (1) Make sure everything related to iTunes data on the old computer is in your iTunes folder.  (2) Copy that iTunes folder to an external storage device.  (3) Connect external storage device to new computer.  (4) Replace existing iTunes folder on new computer, with the iTunes folder from the old computer.

  • How to get the organized files back when you move to a new computer

How to get your file folder organization back when you move to a new computer?

Your PSE8 is using the default, new empty catalog that's created when PSE is installed.
In Windows, search your entire computer for this file:
    catalog.pse8db
The largest one that's found will be your old catalog.  If your computer people didn't restore that catalog file (and its entire directory), ask them where the heck it is.

  • I want to keep my albums and events as I move to my new computer?

I want to keep my albums and events from iphoto when I move to my new computer. I moving from iphoto version 8.1 to 11. From Old mac to new imac. And from Lion to Maverick. Thank you

Do you have any photos in it?  If so then rename it before copying the old library to the Pictures folder.  If you want to merge the newer library into the older one (assuming the newer one has fewer photos in it) use the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager  to do the merging.
If the new library is empty then you can delete it.

  • Steps to move from elements 8 to elements 13 and move to a new computer

Anyone know of posts explaining how to upgrade and migrate to a new computer?
I currently have Elements 8 on a Windows 7 computer.  >40k images, many tagged and organized by Windows folders, e.g., year/month/...
I've installed Elements 13 on a new Windows 8.1 computer.  What are the steps to move images and catalog to the new computer - preserving the Windows folder structure?
    Thanks-

  • How to move to Photoshop Elements and new computer

Hi, I've been using Photoshop Elements for several years, but am new to the forum.  I recently got a new Windows 7 computer and moved all my files, including photos, using a Windows 7 migration cable. I was using Photoshop Elements 6 on my old Windows XP computer and want to upgrade to Photoshop Elements 8 on the new computer.  How do I get my catalog into PE8?  Based on what I'm seeing in the posts on this forum, I'm thinking that I've gone about this the wrong way.  It looks like maybe I should delete my photo files from the new computer, then install PE8 on the old computer, do a backup in PE8, and restore the backup on the new computer in PE8. Does this make sense, or can someone suggest a better way to do this?  Thanks for your help.

I should delete my photo files from the new computer, then install PE8 on the old computer, do a backup in PE8, and restore the backup on the new computer in PE8.
That is definitely the most reliable method.  You're changing three things at once: new computer, new version of Windows, new version of PSE.  The catalog conversion process (upgrading to a new version of PSE) and backup/restore are both fairly buggy, so it's wise to do one step at a time to make troubleshooting and workarounds much easier.  It's also better to use the most recent (less buggy) PSE 8 to make the backup, rather than PSE 6.
People are tempted to take a shortcut on this and try to use PSE 8 on the new computer from a PSE 6 backup.  That will often work, but when it doesn't, they then waste a lot more time trying to make it work.   As the Car Talk Guys used to say, "It's the cheapskate who pays the most."
See this FAQ for tips on converting from PSE 6 to 8:

  • Clean Move to a new Computer

I want to move my images and catalogs to a new computer. My situation is simple. Only one catalog, only jpegs, raw, psd, and tif images. They are all in folders under My Pictures in My Documents. I want ot keep the same folder structure. I have backups with catalog. I presume I can simply restore on a new machine. I noticed that the file names on the images on the backup are different. Will the old file names come back when I restore? If not, it will be somewhat of a hassle. I also assume that all my tags, groups etc. will come back. Any thoughts

    >I have backups with catalog. I presume I can simply restore on a new machine. I noticed that the file names on the images on the backup are different. Will the old file names come back when I restore?
My experience has been that Yes, the "old" file names on the images do come back when you do the Elements Restore.
    >Only one catalog, only jpegs, raw, psd, and tif images. They are all in folders under My Pictures in My Documents. I want ot keep the same folder structure.
I do not have any RAW format files so I can not comment specifically on them.
There is a consideration for the folder structure - the exact name of the folder structure for My Documents (and there My Pictures under My Documents) includes the Windows Userid. Therefore in order to have
    b exactly
the same folder path names on the new computer, you should have the Windows Userid name under which you are running when you do the Restore be the same as it was on the old computer.
Elements can do the Restore if the Userid names are different, but it might not construct the full path name to the folder exactly as you wish.
    > I also assume that all my tags, groups etc. will come back
Yes, your tags and related info will be retained. The Elements Backup includes the Catalog file that contains this information.
    On your
    b old
    PC,
be sure that you have done a File > Catalog > Recover and that you have Reconnected
    b ALL
missing files before you do the Backup that will be used to transfer to your new PC. Any files that are not Connected will not be backed up.

  • Frustrating switch to new elements or new computer

I had an earlier elements 5 I believe.  About 5 years ago I got a new computer and needed to transfer my pictures and programs.  I reviewed how this was done online and transferred the program and pictures so everything would go smoothly.  Nothing went smoothly.  I grew duplicate pictures, my tags disappeard, my dates were screwed up.  ONE BIG HEADACHE.  I fixed all the issues and then bought an upgraded elements 10.  Same thing happened.  Got that all sorted out and then had to buy a new computer.  Again the same thing happened.  I am now in the middle of all of this and wonder what my future holds with Adobe elements.  I cannot go through another one of these episodes.  Can I hire someone to transfer my program to another computer OR transfer my pictures to an upgraded element?.  Does anyone have any contacts in Salt Lake City, or does anyone have any super great tutorials.  What I found on the web for this was useless as you can tell.

  • Can't find previous itunes file after moving info to an external drive to move library to new computer!!!  HELP

I have moved my itunes files numerous times to new computers as I get one.  This last time I had everything running off an external drive, to conserve hard drive space on computer and hopefully from computer failure.  I need to move library over to new computer and get away from old computer that has Windows XP to the computer with windows 7.  After installing itunes on new computer and plugging in external to new computer, it finds all music and movies, etc., however, I can't seem to find the file that has the playlist info, play count, and to see where the backups of my iphone(s) are.  I have been working at this for days to no avail.  It may be right in front of my face but can't see where to find it.  HELP!!!!

  • New computer ?? on how to move library to new computer

I have done a search and followed some directions regarding this. But I'm a complete dummy when it comes to this. I'm hoping for some gently advice :-))
I have a new computer and want to move all my itunes to the new computer since it is faster. My new computer has Vista on it. I have read thru some searches regarding this, and this is what I've done so far.
I have made the new computer authorized under my account. And when I did that my music library did load on the new computer. None of my videos or movies moved to the new computer, is this supposed to be the case?? Also, when the music showed on the new computer, it did not show under the different playlist names that I have. Just the entire library. How do I get the new itunes to look like it does on the old computer (breaking down all the different playlists we have). We have 3 different ipods and different list for different family members.
I would appreciate any help..but please keep in mind. I really need an itunes
for dummy book! LOL Thanks in advance

I agree with that last statement, there does need to be an iTunes for Dummy's book. I could use it myself. Anyways...
To put your videos back in iTunes, you'll have to copy them from your old computer to the new one. Copy them onto a flash drive, and put them on the new PC. Then select: File/ Add File (Folder) to Library, and pick the File you want to add (folder of stuff you want to add).
You'll have to re-make the playlists yourself, sorry. Were they "Smart Playlists"? Because there is an option for these in the file menu. If your syncing iPods, watch out. Vista doesn't like iPods much. I've been having massive trouble putting mysic on my new Classic, and before that, updating my 30 GB Video. Good luck to you, and your family.

  • Some video podcasts won't sync after using iPod to move music to new comput

    Hi -
I used my iPod to move my music (and podcasts) to a new computer (from a PC laptop to a Mac Pro). Now when I try to resync it (on either computer) some video podcasts are not synched from iTunes to the iPod. In some cases, all podcasts from the same subscription fail to sync; in other cases, some podcasts synch and others from the same subscription don't. All of the podcasts that fail to synch are video podcasts.

yeah i'm having the exact same problem so thought i'd up this rather than start a new thread. for me, one particular video subscription won't sync at all, and another is fine apart from three videos. particularly annoying as it took an absolute age to actually download them, and now they won't sync.
    anyone got any bright ideas?

  • Move to a new computer

This web site is so very contusing I don't even know how I posted the first question.
"Ask a question" does not take me to a place to POST a question." It only takes me to articles. Click on “Get community Support” https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/thunderbird/get-community-support
And that takes me to the page shown in the screen shot. But it's a dead end street. I can enter nothing in the box. What is that all about? How on earth do I post a question? LostInThisMaze!
My circumstances of original question have changed and none of the articles address the specific circumstances.
I must return my computer and seller has agreed to an exchange. So I can not use a Wizard or stuff like that. I will not have the old unit to transfer from. I only use Thunderbird for the Calendar feature. (It is sooooo slow to launch.) Again I will not have a computer to move Thunderbird FROM. I am however well-backed up. I have my Pofile and ***.default file backed up and I also have a full Windows 7 back up with a full Image on a separate back up disc.
    Here are my questions:
    1. Do I really need to re-install TBird on the new computer? Can't I just go to my most recent Windows back up, then to the Tbird directory and just click that as a “restore”? Will it be restored in full to the new computer.
    2. If not how do I get and install Tbird and how to I move my Profile (with several calendars into it?
Please I do not want theories, guesses, or questions, but just answers from people who know and are certain their solution it factually correct.

When I simply ask what time it is please do not send me instructions on how to make a watch. I still can not find the calender file. This should be as simple as: Thunderbird stores the calender files as c:/....../ ..
