Move emails between accounts

Hi!
I tried finding a solution for this but I couldn't. If it's somewhere in this forum, please, I would be very thankful if I could get a link to it :)
I've been using Thunderbird since years and I'm really happy with it but I must admit there's a lot I don't know. I can't make filters works for instance, no matter how many times I follow the tutorial etc.
But this time I have a question. I want to delete an old email. I drag and dropped the emails I want to save to another account. In fact to a folder I created under "inbox" in another account (is that a local folder? or will I find it in my Gmail account?).
I wanted to know if it's safe to delete the account now or if, when I do it, all the emails I have copied to this folder will go away. I read I should create a local folder but I don't know if I already did that. Also, can't I use a folder on my new Gmail account so I can access those mail anywhere?
Thank you so much for baring with my dumb questions! ;)

They should be fine in your gmail account. I do the same all the time. The only advice I'd offer is to move ''messages'' , not ''folders''. I've heard of users moving folders only to find they are still connected to the original account, despite having been moved to a different account.
I am assuming the gmail account uses IMAP. This is a prerequisite for your wish to see them from "anywhere".
When we say a local folder, we mean the Local Folders account in Thunderbird. It's useful for saving messages independently of any particular email account, so can be useful if you intend to close an account and keep its messages, or want to save messages yet delete them from the server.
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Local_Folders
However, Local Folders won't suit your requirement to "access those mail anywhere", since, by definition it is Local and stored on your computer's storage media. In contrast, messages in IMAP-connected email accounts are stored on the server, with temporary copies shown in your email client.
May I make a suggestion? When you start to write "email", ask yourself if you mean an account, or a message, or something else. So, I have interpreted~:
"I want to delete an old email. I drag and dropped the emails I want to save to another account."
as
"I want to delete an old email account. I drag and dropped the email messages I want to save to another (email) account."
Please advise if I have misunderstood.

  • Transfering email between accounts

    Hi,
Following a recommendation by a BT advisor I took out a separate account in order to cater for an overlap when moving properties.   The time when one of my accounts is being closed (tomorrow) 26 Feb (Wed) but I now find there is no easy way to transfer email between accounts.    Reading posts on this forum, I see that Moderators can organize this.  On the posts it refers to clicking on sending message to moderator but I cannot find such a link!

  • Move email from account to account

I need to have the ability on the iphone to move an email from one mail account to another....how can I do that?

If account 2 allows rules/filters, you could set a rule to move email from account 1 to a folder in account 2. You could then auto-forward account 1 to account 2. This would put any email sent to account 1 into the assigned folder in account 2.
Many, but not all email providers offer an auto-forward feature.

  • Outlook 2013 & Hotmail (Tranferring Emails between Accounts, Syncing Issues, Categories)

    I would appreciate if someone could asssist me with the following Issues;
ISSUE 1 – Transferring emails between Hotmail accounts
I have multiple Hotmail accounts set up in Outlook 2013 on one of my PC’s. I also have the exact same set up using Outlook 2010 on other PC’s.
In Outlook 2010 i can easily transfer emails between Hotmail accounts just by clicking and dragging the email to the inbox of the other account.
    I am unable to do this in Outlook 2013. When i try i get a dialogue box with the following message;
"Cannot move the items. The folders you are trying to change do not support this operation. Could not complete the operation because the service provider does not support it."
    ISSUE 2 - Syncing Issues
I have this set up with multiple accounts on more than one PC. So when i access any of the PC's and click send receive, the Hotmail accounts are updated
to reflect the changes I made on any other PC (Ex. The emails that i left as Unread on the other PC will appear as unread on the PC i am at the present moment when I click sen/receive)
This doesn’t seem to be working as well on Outlook 2013 as it does on Outlook 2010. Example - When i click on send/receive i know that it should show only 2 unread emails but instead it shows
10 unread emails. This was never the case with Outlook 2010.
ISSUE 3 - Categories not syncing in Outlook 2013.
When i select a category on one PC using Outlook 2010, i noticed that when i go to another PC using Outlook 2013 and press send/receive it does show the category changes i have made.
I really enjoy using Outlook and Hotmail and have never even considered any other provider. I would really appreciate if someone could advise me on these issues, wether there’s something I can do to correct them or if there’s any intention of making any
changes so that the above will be fixed so that we can have the same functionality we enjoyed in Outlook 2010.
    Thanks

Any way  of being notified about this when it happens?
I'm going back to 2010 and would like to re-install 2013 when possible.
    Thank you.
It's on their list, but major changes to the EAS protocol is driven by Exchange and as it stands now, I don't think they will implement it before the next version of Exchange comes out. After that, the Outlook.com team needs to implement the new version
on their servers and Outlook needs to be updated to support it.
    The IMAP workaround mentioned in
http://www.msoutlook.info/question/765 is workable for migration scenarios.
As about getting notifications when it happens, following the
Outlook Team's blog might help but I'll announce it on my site as well (see my signature).

  • Unable to move emails between folders in mail in its 5

Since upgrading to ios 5 I have found that I am unable to bulk move emails from the sent folder to another folder.  I'm in construction so my sent folder has emails concerning about 30 projects, during down time I used to search the sent emails by one or two words then bulk move them to another folder.  Under ios 5 I have been unable to do this.  Is there a fix or is this something apple is aware of?  This is on an exchange account and moving one email at a time works fine.
Also is there a better mail app than the standard one?  Overall it's kind of anemic.

    Hi James,
According to your description, it seems like this is a client-side issue more than exchange issue.
However, I also recommend you refer to the following methods to troubleshoot the issue and it may help us to narrow down the issue:
    1. Try to create two new folders and move again
    2. Try to recreate outlook profile
    3. Try upgrading outlook 2010 to latest version
    4. Try to move the mailbox to another database

  • Move Files between accounts?

    Hi --
I recently set up this computer with lots of customization on the admin account. Because of a mail problem & security issues, I'd like to eventually have it set up so that admin is used only for admin duties, with another user ("Donna") for all my daily business. (I'm the only human using the computer.) I've been told that I can set up the new user more quickly by moving the admin preferences files to the appropriate place for the Donna files.
Well, I just added the user Donna (with admin priveleges) but I'm unable to move the files. When I'm logged in as admin, it won't let me touch the Donna files & when I'm logged in as Donna I can't get to the admin files. What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    Donna

Is your email account an IMAP or POP account? If the former then the error message you received is related to creating a mailbox on the IMAP server.
When you resolve a problem by creating a new user account, then it means that the existing problem is constrained to the old user account, i.e., it's in the Home folder. Usually that means a problem with preference files, user cache files, third-party items such as preference panes or contextual menu items.
Archive and Install with preservation of users won't fix the problem because it simply imports the existing user account to the new system. Since the problem is in the user account it is not fixed by an Archive and Install.
Creating a new user and transferring everything over risks importing the problem as well. Because you think the problem is restricted to Mail, then perhaps the thing to try is deleting your current email account in Mail and then re-configuring a new account in Mail. If you use IMAP this should not cause any of your mail to be lost unless you download it to your computer. In this case archive your existing mailboxes and move the archive out of the current /Home/Library/Mail/ folder so it will not be deleted when you remove the account from Mail.

    Hi Kobe Zhang
    Option 1:
Your MSN account might be deleted but the eprintcenter wont be deleted along with it.
You should be still able to login to eprintcenter account using the old msn id and the same old password for eprintcenter account which you used regularly.
If you have forgot the password, i dont know how can you recover it.
If you get a chance to login then you can remove the printer from the old account and then claim it in your new account created usign hotmail ID.
If you are not worried about changing your printers email ID, here is option 2.
One more option is to de register the printer and register it again to cloud to get a new email address which can be used to claim the printer in your new account and then customize your email ID there. But be aware that you might not be able to set the same customised email ID which you have used in your old account.
    Kind Regards,
    Olilloyd

  • Can I copy emails between an IMAP account and an Exchange account, via Apple Mail client?

If I have an IMAP account configured in my Apple Mail client profile, and then I also add an Exchange 2010 Server account to that same profile, can I use the Apple Mail client to copy folders and messages from my IMAP account, into my mail store on the Exchange Server account?

Pop mail accounts must be set up to 'leave messages on the server'.
    check this before using.
    * Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for the mail account
    or
    * menu icon > Options > Account Settings > Server Settings for the mail account
select: 'leave messages on the server'
optional: select: 'for at most xx days' this will delete anything older than specified number of days select 'Until I delete them' when you delete an email it will be deleted off the server.
click on Ok to save settings.
Pop mail accounts only look at Inbox and download whatever has not been previously downloaded regardless of whether it has been read or not. They cannot access nor download from any other folder on the server.
If you wanted to download emails in other fodlers, you would have to move emails into the Inbox in order to download them and this may not be very practical in your situation.
What you can do is synchronize your IMAP folders to get a copy downloaded to your IMAP mail account.
Then go into 'offline' mode to stop any further synchronizing as synchronized folders do get updated.
MozBackup tool could now be used to backup the Profile as synchronising created mbox files which contain emails.
You can also do the following to get a copy outside of the IMAP mail account:
Create the same folders in 'Local Folders'.
Then right click on email and 'copy to' and select Local Folders and the folder you require.
Putting a copy in Local Folders means these emails are also on your computer and they are not influenced by anything you do in the IMAP folders.
You would need to backup emails in these folders.

  • I can move emails to Yahoo! and Gmail from other accounts, but not vice versa. Why?

Here's a test email that I'll try to move from one account ("Nathan Paul") to another (Yahoo!) in my iPhone Mail app:
Let's move it to a different folder...
And tap "Account" in the upper left to move it to a different account:
You can see that my options are 1) the account of origin, 2) Yahoo!, and 3) Gmail.
Now, let's try this with a test message sent to my Yahoo! account:
    Move to a different folder...
And try to move to a different account...
Now my only options are Yahoo! and Gmail.
It's the same way when I try to move an email from any account to any other account. My only options, other than the account that received the email, are Yahoo! and Gmail. Why is this?

Okay, for two of the accounts (Master's and Nathan Paul), it says "Exchange." For the rest, it just says the name of the account.
Here are some screenshots from the Master's account settings:
Basic settings. It does indeed say "EXCHANGE":
    "Master's" Account Info:
    "Master's" Advanced Settings:
Now, here are some screenshots from the Yahoo! account settings:
    From the Yahoo! account settings:
    Yahoo! SMTP Server settings:
    And the Yahoo! Advanced Settings:
I don't see anything about IMAP, POP, or Exchange in any settings for any accounts, other than the "Exchange" label on the Master's and Nathan Paul accounts.

  • How can I automatically move emails from different accounts to one inbox?

Hi! I have several accounts. Some of them are my older email accounts that I do not really use, but I keep them to make sure that I will not miss emails from old contacts. I know I can create a filter to move emails from Inboxes of different email accounts to the Inbox of one account. But how can I move emails from the spam boxes of different email accounts to the Inbox of one account? Thank you!

They are really "spam" folders? Thunderbird doesn't use the term "spam" and any such folders are almost certainly provided provided and populated by your email provider or anti-spam software. If this is the case, there's probably little you can do to change it.
You can create filters, but filters operate automatically only on the Inbox and you'd have to run them manually on your spam folders.
