Move flagged photos to the trash?

Is there a way to move my flagged photos to the trash? I do not want them unflagged... I want them permanently gone from my library. Everytime I Command-A and move them to trash, it just unflags them and they're still in my library.
Please help?

One easy way is to use the create new event form flagged photos command and then drag the new event to the iPhtoo trash and empty the iPhoto trash and the system trash

Simple question - moving flagged photos to the trash

I can't seem to figure out what should be a simple problem. When looking through my pictures, and flagging those I want to move to the trash, I can't. I go to flagged photo's, and the delete key just unflags them. I can't drag them to the trash folder, nor can I do a menu choice for the trash.
Whats the best way to handle this? (iphoto 09, by the way)

Here is a step by step to produce what I'm seeing
1) Under last import, flag a badly blurred photo, or whatever.
2) Go to the flagged folder. Select the flagged photo, and drag it to the iphoto trash icon. Photo vanishes from flagged folder.
3) go back to last import, or the event where the photo lives. And photo is still there - dragging to the iphoto trash icon merely clears the flag.
What does work
1) Go through photo's, flagging some for deletion, editing others, etc. Finish up.
2) go to flagged photo's folder. Highlight all.
3) Go back to photos stream.
4) find one of the photos. Hold down the shift key, click on photo, drag it to the iphoto trash icon. Notice that iphoto is telling you it grabbed more than one photo (it grabbed all photos that were selected in the flagged photo - which is what we want). It deletes all the photos.
Thats a bit of a pain.
What I want to happen
Flag a bunch of photos in my library.
Go the flagged folder.
Select all the photos in the flagged folder.
Move said photo's to the iphoto trash icon, getting rid of them.
Any way to do this?

Which trash can? The one in iPhoto? If that's the one you're referring to go to to the iPhoto menu and select the "Empty Trash" option.
Be warned that other users have had trouble with iPhoto crashing when they tried to delete a large number of photos from the trash at once. I suggest you follow the tip at the bottom of my post before trying to empty the trash. I'd also download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine, before emptying the trash. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Just to make sure all is set properly.
If iPhoto does crash you'll have to move them back to the library and try deleting in smaller numbers, 50 or so.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

Yes, you could, because in this case you would have something like a backup in the cloud. BTW, personally I also like Flickr. Flickr offers you 1 TB (1000 GB) of free storage and automatic upload for photos since iOS 7 (it is a very attractive offer, at least for me)

what version of iPhoto and of the OS? What exact steps did you do? where are you seeing these "thousands of cascading photos" now and using what software and what exactly did you want to accomplish

Help! I put every photo in the trash and now they are unorganized

I put every photo in the trash and was not able to restore them to their original position.Thankfully, I was able to save these photos but they are now a jumble. Every photo spawned 5 or so derivatives- face photos, PM, etc. Plus, I had photos saved outside of iphoto and imported in to iphoto. Now iPhoto is full of empty squares.
What is the best (and fasted way) to get to a restored state?

Very unfortuant and a really bad decision and a hard way to learn the critical nature of always haveing a current backup - Time Machine is included with every Mac - if you run it you always have hourly backups to go back to

If your Masters folder is intact you can start over from scratch and get the event structure you had - drag the Masters folder to the desktop, start a new iPhoto library and drag each folder from the Masters folder to the open iPhoto window - this will recreate the events you had
and maybe if you provided some details about what you have and exactly how you recovered your photos theree is more that can be done

If you didn't empty the iPhoto Trash bin select all the photos in the Trash, Control (right) - click and select Put Back from the contextual menu.

There's no "trash can" on any iOS device. If not backed up, your photo is most likely gone. There are third-party iOS data recovery programs available that claim to be able to retrieve deleted data like this. You can use Google to search for them. None are cheap & I have no experience with any, thus cannot recommend any.

Which trash is empty? If it's the iPhoto trash, check the System Trash, as files deleted from iPhoto 11 go there. Assuming that's also empty then you have exactly two options:
1. Restore from your back up
or
2. Use a file recovery app such as File Salvage - you can download a free trial and it will scan the disk for you and tell you with might be recoverable. Actual recovery will require that you purchase the app. There may be many files with the same or similar names. Always recover the largest file size.
There are other such apps. Search on Macupdate or the App Store

How do I move Flagged Photos Event back to original event?

I made the mistake of thinking that I was making an event from flagged photos within an event. Instead, it created a Flagged Photos event of photos from ALL my events. I've read the instructions on how to put them back, but I can't get the events close to each other to drag from one to the other. Is there another way? Or can someone explain how to move the Flagged Photos close to the original Event? I have over 400 that I want back in their original places.

If you didn't make a back up then you don't have one. And you should. Immeadiately.
If you want move photos to a specific Event, flag them, select the target Event and go EVents menu -> Add Flagged Photos to Selected Events

The old "move to trash" facility in iPhoto is missing from Photos. How do you trash a photo from the library?

It appears that All Photos is fixed at Keep Sorted by Date Added. I have 6450 photos.
But when I open the side bar and do a right click on iPhoto Events where I have 480 albums I get option to sort them by Name

Everytime I want to send a file to the trash, I have to either perform some kind of key combination/shortcut or use the trackpad/mouse, right click and select "move to trash", or drag the file(s) to the trash! Now the problem is how do you do this?
1. I went to the system prefs > Keyboard > Keyboard and checked "use F1, F2, etc... as standard function keys.."
2. Under keyboard shortcuts, I selected "Application Shortcuts" and clicked on the "+" sign
3. I selected the finder application, entered "Move To Trash" in the action box, and F12 as the key (because it's next to "delete")
That did not work. It just opened the dashboard instead.
4. I went back to "keyboard shortcuts" and found F12 was already assigned to open the dashboard. So I unchecked it and tried again.
That still didn't work. I would select the file to be moved to trash, press F12, and after an error "beep" sound, the last file in the folder was highlighted.

I changed "Move To Trash" to "Move to Trash" and selected a file. I had lost all hope, so I took a minute to prepare myself for yet another moment of deep frustration. Then I pressed F10, and bang! the file was trashed!!! It took me a couple minutes to actually believe what just happened. Thank you so much! PS: what the heck is wrong with Apple though??? Wrong instructions, incorrect help instructions on their own site. The chances of figuring this out before having a nervous breakdown were like one in a million (approximately, I did not actually do the math). Last week, the keyboard and the trackpad stopped responding on my brand new macbook pro for a couple hours. I was not the only one with this problem. Apparently, this was from a design flaw, which means it could happen again at any time. iMovie doesn't work. TextEdit keeps crashing all the time. Emptying the trash can take hours.
Since 2000, I bought a PMac G4 Quicksilver, a used PMac G3 Blue, a used iBook G4, a used Pismo PBook G3, a used Graphite iMac G4, a used iMac G3 (green, 233MHz I think) and I already had more problems with this brand new macbook pro than will all the other macs combined... For such an expensive machine, with 16GB of RAM, that's a little dissapointing, especially from Apple. Maybe I'm just not lucky.

Inititally the "progress" bar would get to about 1/2 way and then it would stop and stall. However, now the progress bar no longer shows a progress line it immediately freezes and locks up. Can anyone help?

You may have damaged the library - Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library
