Move frame by frame?

Hi,
I have a video project where I have to put in a foreign language voice over. Is there a way to move frame by frame in Soundtrack Pro?
Thanks
Robert

Like Doug said, you can use the button in the transport controls. If you prefer the keyboard, it's Option-Right Arrow (or Left Arrow, if you're reversing).
That said, I believe the prefer way to do this (allowing you to perform subframe edits) is to zoom in all the way on the timeline and simply use the Arrow keys.

  • Loading external movies in specific frames

    Here's what I'd like to have my project do: By clicking on a
    button in frame 5 I'd like to load a movie into an empty movie clip
    in frame 20. I'v ewritten the script to create the empty movie clip
    and also load the movie, but the movie loads into all frames of my
    project. I'd ideally like to have the movie clip waiting for my
    only in frame 20. Anyone know how to make this happen?
    Thanks
    Eric

    you could not load it into an empty movie clip located on
    frame 20 from frame 5, flash wouldn't know where to load it since
    the movie clip hasn't shown up... you could load it in on frame 5
    and give the movie clip a _visible = false; or set it's _x and _y
    properties to be off the stage, then on frame 20 set it to _visible
    = true; or move its _x and _y properties to be on the
    stage..

  • How to move frame-by-frame in QT7 Pro

    I can't figure this out and it seems so simple (it must be because I could find nothing on a search). One of my movies will go frame-by-frame with the left and right arrows, but another movie jumps in .80 increments. How do I set up QT7 so that the keyboard arrows move the movie exactly one frame at a time? Thanks.

    Actually, both movies are probably incrementing at the frame level. However, in one case the time reference is counting frames and in the other it is displaying the actual time increment of the frame. Basically, there are three similar but different time displays:
    1) #:##:##.## indicating H:MM:SS.TT the the fractional . (period) TT unit is in hundredths of a second and the size of the incremental difference depends of the frame rate of the movie. (E.g., a 29.97 fps movie has an increment of about .03(333)/frame. This is the most common formatting you will likely see for most home movies and conversions.
    2) #:##:##:## indicating H:MM:SS:FF where : (colon) FF is the current frame is expressed as a whole number between 00 and the frame rate for the movie. This format is commonly seen when viewing Apple/iTunes Trailers which normally contains a dedicated timing track. However, this can be turned off using the QT Preference which is usually defaulted to allow the display timing track data if included in the file. Unfortunately, there is no way to force this form of display if no track is included in the movie file.
    3) #:##:##;## indicating H:MM:SS;FF where ; (semi-colon) FF s the current frame is expressed as a whole number between 00 and the frame rate for the movie. This formating option is usually dependent on the plication application in use. For instance, if you play a non-trailer/non-timecodded file in QT 7 and in MPEG Streamclip, you will get a time reference display (type 1 above) but get the "semi-colon" frame reference display in the MPEG Streamclip player.
    Hope this helps you to understand the different displays and how to tell them apart.

  • How can you get frame by frame control of the image on a movie buttom?

    Working on IDVD 7.0.4, I'm trying to position still frames for each of my movie buttons. I read the help pdf and the slider worked an several images, but would not let me move frame by frame to select. When I found the image I wanted and selected it, as soon as I clicked away it reverted to a spot several frames later in the movie. Is there a way to move frame by frame in the still mode?

  • Cant' move images from frame to frame inside a Grid in InDesign. Please Help

    When creating a grid in indesign there is an option to move images from frame to frame, and having them rotate around the frames to see where each image is best to be placed. Example I created a grid with 6 images (2 rows and 3 columns) and now i want image 1 to be where image 6 is. I know there's a way by hitting the arrows and some other keys and have all the images start rotating. I did it once I just can't remember. Please help. How do you move the an image from one frame to another frame without having to go to edit place?

  • Flash CS5 movie with 2167 frames doesn't render properly when published

    I have a flash animation (.fla) that I am creating in flash professional CS5.
    I have not finished development but have hit a snag with completing it, because when the movie has 2166 frames or less, it publishes to swf correctly, but when I add additional frames (2167 or more), upon publishing to swf my 3D animations and text do not display in the published swf file.
    I know in the older versions of flash there is a frame limit of 16000 frames, but is there an even smaller frame limit in flash CS5 of 2166 frames or less? Perhaps this limitation is only apparent when using the new features like 3D animation?
    Adobe, is there a bug fix for this? Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Here's the workaround I used to fix this if anyone experiences a similar problem:
    Problem:
    When publishing from flash CS5 with actionscript 3.0 to swf, publishing takes a long time and 3D tweens and text do not display in the published movie.
    Workaround:
    File > Publish Settings
    Select the Flash tab
    In the script dropdown, change the option from Actionscript 3.0 to Actionscript 2.0
    If you have any 3D tweens, a warning will appear - "3D tweens can only be supported in ActionScript 3.0 or higher. 3D properties will be permanently removed from all tweened objects if the current publish settings are changed. There is no undo for this operation."
    Click Ok
    If you have any TLF text, another warning will appear "TLF text can only be supported in ActionScript 3.0 or higher. TLF text will be permanently converted to classic text if the current publish settings are changed. There is no undo for this operation. Undo history will be cleared."
    Click Ok
    Any text that was converted to Classic text may have changed in layout & position
    review and fix all your text
    Save the file.
    Publish to swf and test
    File > Publish Settings
    Select the Flash tab
    In the script dropdown, change the option from Actionscript 2.0 back to Actionscript 3.0
    Add your 3D tweens back in
    Publish to swf and test
    If anyone has a better solution I'm still interested to hear it, as my workaround doesn't allow you to use TLF text.

  • Slow motion 50% export H.264 MOV (at half frame rate)

    Hi,
    I'm using a QuickTime MOV file (H.264, 1080p/59.94fps, 15 seconds) and have set slow motion to 50% (= 30 seconds).
    Can anyone confirm that when I export this clip to 29.97fps I won't lose frames?
    I have Compressor and think I found nearly all required settings except:
    - Key frames - shall I use automatic or 24 or what? (How can I find out what the original key frame value was?)
    - Frame reordering - shall I uncheck this option? (What does it mean? It's not in the manual.)
    Many thanks!

    If you want to make absolutely sure you won't lose frames, you should manually set a project to 29.97fps, import your 60/59.94fps and conform the video (Retime menu > Conform Speed [the retime menu is the 2nd one from the left over the effects browser area/under the inspector area]). FCPX will automatically frame for frame adjust the video to fit to the slower frame rate.
    Key frames (video compression, not animation):  a key frame is a complete image -- 100% pixels in use. Every frame between the key frames are only the parts of the image that change from the last frame (like Cel animation). Setting Automatic allows the software to make the best choices of when and where to create a complete frame. Otherwise, you can experiment with different values (up to All, which is pretty much no compression) to see what kinds of results you get and the overall quality (use very short pieces, like 5 -10 seconds.)  High motion areas in video are always going to be the most challenging with respect to compression (particularly bitrate), so... it's worth figuring out what settings you like that will give the best results (and 5-10second clips don't take that long to render.) I generally use Automatic and adjust the bitrates to give the best overall results (which occasionally requires testing segments.)
    Frame reordering:  allows applications to "decompress" video frames in a different order than they are played, thereby allowing those apps that understand it a way to work faster. Larry Jordan suggests that this setting always be set for H.264 video (although I don't if I'm uploading to YouTube -- I try not to give YouTube any excuses for recompressing my video, so I try to have it already optimized before uploading... so far, it seems to be working.)

    I want to step through a .mov file frame-by-frame looking at geometry of an aircraft in the video to establish the rotational speed of the propeller.  This should be fairly straightforward by looking at how much the propeller moves between each frame and using the exposure time of each frame.
    However the .mov file is from an iPhone 4S and looking at the details, has a variable frame rate.  What I need to know is the duration that each frame is displayed for in order to do my analysis.  Does anyone know how to find out this information?

  • Move frame by frame in what FLV player?

    I'm in the process of designing a website, and I want to use
    Flash as well as Quicktime. The site deals with stock footage, so
    the beauty of Quicktime is that the user can simply move through
    the video frame by frame and choose exactly the shot he or she
    wants. But when it comes to Flash, is there a player available that
    will allow the user to move through the clip frame by frame?
    Klein

    If I am understanding you correctly, you want to be able to
    navigate through the quicktime movie, frame by frame.
    The setting is when you import the .mov file. Choose embed in
    the timeline instead of the other options. Once complete, you can
    move the slider across the timeline and view your movie frame by
    frame.

  • Quicktime 7 plays movie but skips frames

    Using Tiger and QT 7.1. The movie displays a frame then seems to jump forward. Seems to play 1 frame out of 30. These are fairly large movie files. Could Quicktime need more memory? If so I don't know how to access that.
    Thanks.
    Bill

    I just noticed what hardware Bill Graham1 lists as his Mac--a Power Mac 7300 running Tiger. He has to be using something like XPostFacto to get it to run on this older Mac. In any case, even if this 7300 has a processor board upgrade, it's not designed to handle Quicktime 7 video at a decent speed. I'd be interested to hear Bill's experience with Quicktime 6.5.2, under OS 10.3.x on his 7300--did it play movies at a normal speed? If so, then that would confirm he's seeing the Quicktime 7 bug, which is actually real--check some of the other posts in the Quicktime section from people with G4 Macs that are more than fast enough to play movie files using Quicktime 7, but who are seeing this problem, where other people with the same Mac model aren't, which indicates it's some sort of bug. My Mac, a G4 AGP at 500 mhz, played MPEG-1 movie files just fine, under OS 10.3.x, using Quicktime 6.5.2, but when I installed OS 10.4, which requires Quicktime 7, the same movie files now play for a few seconds, then stop; if I hit the Quicktime Player window's pause button, then press it again, the video starts playing at a normal speed, but only after skipping some frames, and then plays again for only a few seconds. If I keep doing this, the whole video plays, but that's not how it's supposed to work. The same thing happens when you run Quicktime Player 6.5.2 under OS 10.4.x--you can't run the Quicktime 6.5.2 installer under OS 10.4.x, but you can run its Quicktime Player application if you copy it from a Mac that has 6.5.2 installed--but it doesn't help, indicating the problem is something in the Quicktime 7 extensions, or a problem with some OS file(s) that affect Quicktime playback, at least with MPEG-1 files--I haven't tried any MPEG-2 files.
    If you play these same MPEG-1 files using VLC Media Player instead of Quicktime Player, they play with no pauses, on these same "slow" Macs. I don't think VLC relies on Quicktime software. This further implicates Quicktime 7 as the cause of the problem.

  • Left and right arrow keys don't move frame by frame in a multicam sequence

    Since installing 8.2.0, the left and right arrow keys stop working in multicam sequences. I hear one frame of sound when pressing the left or right arrow, but no frame-by-frame. In the viewer or non-multicam sequences, they seem to behave normally.

    What little there is in this topic: 9.0 iTunes played Football Podcast frame by frame both forward and backwards for detailed viewing. When they upgraded to 10.0 the keyboard freatured was changed and not replaced. the arrow keys now move you to the next video or the previous video. Command (open Appple) moves you ..like 3 to 4 frames ahead. This is stupid and I have to play my podcast videos in Realplayer to use their arrow keys. This is just one more level for playerts to scrfew up on when viewing themselves. THE Can someone actually ask Apple to put it back as a key board feature. It can not even be scripted, but I'm game to hear your advice.

  • Is it possible to move a freeze-frame from an imovie(9.0.2) clip to iphoto?

    Is it possible to move a freeze-frame from an imovie(9.0.2) clip to iphoto?

    Yes. You will need to download and install a free app called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5.
    In iMovie, locate the video clip that contains the still you want. Right-click on the video clip and select REVEAL IN FINDER. You should see this clip highlighted in the Finder. Drag this video clip into MPEG Streamclip.
    In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the video frame that you want to make a still from. Click FILE/CREATE FRAME...
    You can choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name and location.

  • Move a movie into a frame before playing?

    Am I correct that I can't move a movie into a frame, with a transition, and then have it start playing? (KN ver. 6) I tried to do it using a "move" action, but it always appears in the frame. Unlike a normal pic, it doesn't move in.
    And, as I need to use "start movie" as the "build in" transition, and I'm only allowed one "build in" transition, I can't first make it move in with a move transition, then make it start.
    I'll suggest some more flexibility to Apple.

  • How do I go frame to frame after a few seconds?

    Hello,
    I'm new here so forgive any mistakes or lack of knowledge.
    (Brief history: I have programmed in Pascal before, currently learning Java and Flash)
    So my question is i want to be able to move from frame to frame after X amount of seconds. I have searched online for coding on how to do this with the action script and managed to get the first frame working. The problem occurs with my 5th frame as frame 1 goes to frame 5 in 5 seconds but when i want frame 5 to go to frame 10 in 10 seconds it decides not to work.
    Below is the code i used in order to accomplish the first frame:
    stop();
    var myTimer:Timer = new Timer(5000, 1);
              myTimer.start();
        myTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER_COMPLETE, function(e:TimerEvent)
            play();
    If there is a problem with the code or if there is an alternative way for better practice please do let me know.
    My 5th frame code:
    stop();
    var myTimer2:Timer = new Timer(5000, 1);
      myTimer2.start();
        myTimer2.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER_COMPLETE, function(e:TimerEvent)
            play();
    Thanks in advance. If anyone is struggling to understand my question, apologies because i am really bad when it comes to structuring sentences.

    You should not have to create more than one timer for this.  Also, you should not be building the event handler function into the listener, keep it as a separate function.
    In frame 1 you could have...
         stop();
         var myTimer:Timer = new Timer(5000, 1);
         myTimer.start();
         myTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER_COMPLETE, moveOn);
         function moveOn(e:TimerEvent):void {
               play();
    and all you would need in frame 5 would be....
         stop();
         myTimer.start();

  • How to edit videos frame-by-frame and export in H264?

    I wish to edit some videos and then export them in H264 so I can use them on a website.
    I have tried to edit with iMovie 08 but can only edit second-by-second. I want to edit frame-by-frame ie to the millisecond. And it appears that iMovie 08 does not export in H264.
    I have looked at iMovie 11 which has a Precision Editor which would work to edit as I want but for that I would have to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard which I don't want. It would export H264.
    I also have QuickTime Player 7 Pro but that too seems to edit only by the second not by the frame; it does however seem to produce H264
    How can I edit these videos precisely and produce H264? Is there another application which would work better (and doesn't cost a fortune).
    Thanks for any ideas

    I want to edit frame-by-frame ie to the millisecond.
    Am a bit confused by what you say. iMovie and QT 7 Pro are both "frame" level editors. However, some forms of editing are, by their very nature, applied over a range of frames which may be a part of your problem. In addition, since "normal" movies have frames which are spaced apart in the 16 to 42 ms range, your requirement to be able to edit to the nearest millisecond would seem unreasonable and would probably be unsupported for playback purposes without skipping 90+ percent of the frames on most platforms.
    And it appears that iMovie 08 does not export in H264.
    All of the "Share" and/or "Export" options (except Final Cut XML...) either default to H.264 or allow export to H.264 (or X264 if installed) video compression.
    How can I edit these videos precisely and produce H264? Is there another application which would work better (and doesn't cost a fortune).
    Difficult to say since you have not given any indication as to what you mean by "editing" here. You could, for instance, edit normal movie clips in a normal manner and then use an application like the JES Deinterlacer to change the playback time reference to achieve an effective 1 millisecond/frame playback rate you seem to want to target even though your platform cannot play every frame during playback.
