Move HD from old G5 to new G5

Hi,
I am wondering if it is possible to take my main HD out of my G5 dual 2.5 from 2 years ago and put it into the new G5 quad 2.5. Basically I want a new system witout the hassle of re-installing everything.
thank you.

Hi Del;
I just received my Quad and I wanted to do the same thing. What I did since I had my system on an SATA drive in my old G4 was to move the SATA disk over to my Quad. I then started the Quad and when Migration Assistant came up, I pointed it at the SATA drive from my old G4 which was not internal to the Quad. It then moved everything over to the Quad system disk for me. My Quad now has the same look and feel as my old G4.
I would not recommend that use the system off of your old system because it may not have all of the drivers for the Quad. Since the Migration Assistant is so quick and easy I highly recommend it instead.

How do I move pictures from old iphone to new iphone

If you want to transfer your camera roll photos, along with text messages and other data and settings from your old phone to your new one, back up the old phone then restore the backup to your new one (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2109).  If you only want to transfer the photos, import them from your old phone to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083, then put them in a folder and sync them to your new phone by selecting the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.  (Be aware that photos synced to your phone using iTunes can only be deleted later by syncing them off again.  They can't be deleted directly on the phone.)

  • Move configure from old ASA to new ASA 5515x?

    Dear All,
Could you let me know how can i move my configuration from ASA 5510 v.8.0 to the new ASA 5515-x V9.1.1?
i used copy running to TFTP and apply to the new ASA but it has some error like nat and Certificate.
could i export my certificate the old ASA and import to the new ASA, that are different version. Does has any solution without donwtime ?
    Best Regards,

I do not believe that there is a way to do the transition from old ASA running 8.0 to new ASA running 9.1 without some downtime. But is is possible to minimize the downtime. I have recently done a transition like that and it was not an easy one. As you have discovered if you attempt to copy the old config to the new ASA it will reject as invalid syntax much of the access lists and all of the nat.
The easier way to do the transition is to have an ASA running the old code with the old config and to upgrade that ASA to 9.1. In this process the 9.1 code should read the config from startup and will do a conversion to the new syntax. I have done this going from 8.0 to 8.4 and see no reason why 9.1 would be different. You then only need to check the accuracy of the conversion. And then you can take the converted config and load it on the new ASA. In my recent conversion we did not have an extra ASA with old code, the new ASA does not support the old version, and the downtime to do this on the existing ASA was not acceptable. So I took the access lists and nat and did a manual translation from old to new. I loaded the modified config on the new ASA and did some checking. We then just switched connections from old ASA to new ASA and the downtime was minimal.

  • How to move photoshop from old mac to new mac?

how to move photoshop from old mac book air to new mac book pro retina display (no disc drive)?

It can be possible to use the Migration Assistant, but you must take into account that any recent Photoshop requires activation with a server account, like Apple iTunes does for purchases. To avoid potential problems, you want to make sure that you deactivate any software (like iTunes or Photoshop) that you have installed from any company that requires activation, and then reactivate them after you migrate. Otherwise it is possible that any software you activated might stop working if it notices that the underlying hardware has changed.
Also, you only get 2 activations of Photoshop and 5 of iTunes, so you don't want to lose any because you forgot to deactivate before getting rid of the old Mac.
Migration Assitant is not perfect, so the most reliable way to migrate is to deactivate Photoshop before migrating and then run a clean installation of it after migration using your original media and serial number.

  • How do I quickly move files from old iMac to new one?

how do I quickly move files from old iMac to a new one?

How many files, and what total size?
To move ALL your files from an old Mac, you would use Migration Assistant, using either an Ethernet or Firewire connection. It's not quick, though.
To move just a few, you COULD put the old Mac into target mode (reboot it while holding T, and connect a Firewire cable, with Thunderbolt adaptor on the new end if need be). Or you could just copy them via an external (probably USB, for compatibility) drive or flash drive, formatted Mac Extended.

  • How to move iPad from old XP to new Windows 8?

I get how to move the music. I get how to transfer the store purchases. My fear is that I will somehow lose my Contacts and Calendar information, and my game progress. Luckily, my old XP is still working. I have an external drive. I've downloaded and installed the current iTunes to both the XP and Win 8 machines. I've created an encrypted backup of the iPad 2 (iOS 6.1.3) on the old XP. I know where that backup lives within the Application Data. I know where the iTunes Folder lives within the My Music section of My Documents. I see that it's arranged differently within the file structure ("Music" vs "Media") as compared to the Win 8 machine. I'm not using Outlook to sync Contacts or Calendars on either machine. I'm not averse to using iCloud, but again, afraid of losing Contacts. Hours of fruitless searching and contradictory and outdated advice have lead me to write to you all. If anyone can provide clear, concise, step by step instructions on how to sync my iPad 2 with my new computer so that I can get back to playing Candy Crush without losing my Contacts, I would greatly appreciate it!!!

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Move photos from old mac to new mac

I have a 2007 macbook on 10.6.8. I have lots of photos that I want to move onto a new Macbook Pro on Yosemite. I have an ethernet cable. I have connected the 2 laptops. I connected to the old laptop on the new one and dragged the iphoto library file onto iPhoto on the new laptop. It asked if I wanted to merge the libraries which I agreed to and now it doesn't seem to be doing anything. When I click iPhoto on the new laptop it says it is upgrading the library. I was going to leave it sitting to do this but it just exits iPhoto after a few minutes. How do I fix this and get the photos on the new laptop?! Thanks.

connected to the old laptop on the new one and dragged the iphoto library file onto iPhoto on the new laptop.
Don't do that. You will end up with a colossal mess.

  • MOVE ALL from old PBG4 to new PBG4

How do I move all my old PBG4 system, applications, documents to a new PBG4?
The old PBG4 Ti is 3+ years old and being replaced with a new latest greatest 15" PBG4. The old PB is running OS 10.4.4 and all the apps are working great however, it won't write DVD. 2 optical drive replacements and a logic board replacement have not solved the problem so I'm getting a new PBG4 from AppleCare. Now I need to move my existing environment to the new machine and need to know how to do it properly. I have several 250GB external drives and a bootable external drive. I want to make sure all my mail, addresses, databases (Quickbooks) etc. get moved to my new computer. Thanks-Roger

You can use your old PB in Target mode to move all the files, the documentation that comes with the new PB will explain this. You will need a firewire cable to connect the two, and follow the instructions on screen.
You can also clone your drive and then clone it back to the new computer, but personally I would use the Target mode method. Make sure you do have a complete backup, and clone if you have the space, until you are sure all the files you want have been brought to your new computer.

  • Move Volume from old location to new Location

    Dears,
I have windows storage server 2008 R2 and i have create 1TB Partition for Server X now server X have issue and it came totally down  so i need to move this partition from this server to new server how i can do that Please help me

    Hi,
I cannot confirm the exact type of the "partition" - is it a iSCSI volume (thus a local VHD on WSS 2008 R2) or a local hard disk on serverX?
If it is a local hard disk on ServerX, you could unplug it and connect it to another computer such as the Windows Storage Server 2008 R2.
If it is an iSCSI volume, in iSCSI target on WSS 2008 R2, you could assign it to another computer which has iSCSI software initiator installed to get it connected to another computer.

  • Move iMove from old iMac to new iMac

Hi, could someone please tell me how to move my iMovie events and projects from my old iMac (20" Intel PC, iMovie '08) to my new iMac (24" Intel PC, iMovie '08) without using the firewire method? I have both iMacs on my network, wired, and I can access the old (20") iMac and drag and drop and move files, but I have read that iMovie is not that easy, plus I already copied my events and projects folders to my NAS and of course iMovie on the new iMac can't find them, they are still on the old iMac internal HD though. Thanks a lot in advance for the help.

I figured it out. Since I didn't have a lot of projects I just imported them from the old iMac (connected on network via Ethernet) and viola! Good to go now.

  • How to move app from old mac to new

I just got myself new mac,but thinking how easy i can move my applications only without redownloading and installing from diffrent places i got them..also it will take me alot of time...anyway to move those apps with there registration key from the old mac?
I wish to move only the apps and the setting i have made to them before....

When you set up the new Mac, it will offer the opportunity to migrate all your old data from the other one.
Lots of people skip that step, but you can run it any time. Find the program called "Migration Assistant".
It is in the Utilities folder and contains instructions on how to connect the two. All your registration keys etc. will be copied.
Beware that Power PC apps will not run with Lion. This is important. If you don't know the implications of that then write back.
Migration Assistant might take a while to complete - several hours is not unusual.
