Move installation from one laptop to another

My laptop is broken and I want to move my archlinux system to my macbook pro, the installation is available via rsync on a separate USB harddrive.
Normally I just copy everything on the new machine and that's it, but now I'm having problems. The Macbook is a 64 bit system so I guess I need to install Arch64 for that. But the old system is a 32 bit one.
Is there a way to install the 64bit version on the macbook and install all the packages I had on the old computer?
Maybe I can rsync everything on the macbook, change the mirrors to x86_64 and just refetch everything? Will this work? I don't want to install everything from scratch again. Any tips how to get my system onto the 64 architecture?

Woohoo this works just fine! Since Mac is a UNIX underneath, the Macbook seems to be the perfect laptop for Linux as well. I just activated the power controls in KDE and it now suspends perfectly when closing the lid.
Never worked for me with my other laptop. And I don't even need to use special daemons for that, it works just fine with ACPI. Cool.
If lid is closed while amarok is playing, it pauses and will continue when opening the lid again. And even the WLAN still works after that.
This is just as easy as in MacOS.
So I guess MacOS will not be started again... :-) I always liked Linux / KDE better than Mac Software.

Is my Valet M20 compatible with Windows 8.1 - Need to move it from One Laptop to Another

I currently have my Valet on my old Dell Laptop running Windows 7. The Dell is ready to crash. I tried to load the Cisco M20 on my laptop running Windows 8 with the Key it seemed fine. I rebooted the laptop now it can't seem to find the software. I guess I have two questions:
1. Is Valet M20 compatible with Windows 8.1
if so,
2. How do I move it from an old laptop to a new one running windows 8.1.

iTunes downloads are not stored in a backup (that contains documents, files, camera roll photos, app content/settings etc), neither are the contents of the device's Music and Videos apps - instead a restore would look to pick up your music, films, apps etc from your iTunes library.
Your backups are stored under :
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then press Return.
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, then choose Run. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then click OK.
You will need to copy the entire backup directory and copy it into the relevant directory on your other laptop - it should then automatically be picked up by that computer's iTunes and show on the Devices tab in Edit > Preference (iTunes > Preferences on a Mac) on it.

You can't import from the vault but you can restore that vault onto the MBP. This will restore the complete library that is contained in the vault.

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music (or wherever the equivalent is on Windows) then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

Sorry, but transferring a rental from one computer to another is not possible, at least not directly. It might be possible by transferring the rental to an iPod/iPhone and then transferring back to the second computer, though I don't know for sure.

How do I export or transfer my iTunes from one laptop to another?

I'm switching from one laptop to another (both using WIN 7), and I'm having difficulty. It might be that my iTunes folder is incorrect or in the wrong place. I tried copying my iTunes folder from a folder in My Music. This folder also had a list of folders that seem to be album names. In alphabetical order, one of these folders is named "iTunes". That folder has files like "iTunes Library.itl", several temp files, iTunes Library Extras.itdb and iTunes Library Genius.itdb. It also has folders called "Album artwork" and "iTunes Media". I tried copying over this iTunes folder, but nothing showed up in iTunes. This would be easy if I were allowed to synch from my iPod to iTunes, but I've heard that's not allowed. Any help, especially step-by-step assistance, would be greatly appreciated.

Migrate an iTunes library from one computer to another
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entireiTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one, with ratings, play counts, playlists etc. preserved. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd normally recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library and unlike copying with Windows Explorer the process can be resumed if it is interrupted and it will continue to the next item if there are any read/access errors.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See Make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
1. Open iTunes on a computer
2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.
As for transferring your iTunes Library: iTunes- How to move the library to an EHD. Once you have done this take the external drive to your new computer and restore the iTunes data on the new computer.
