Move iPhone/iPad to another PC without consolidating library no erase

I have a new laptop with Windows 7 Professional. The old one is a Windows XP based. I use iTunes ONLY to manage music and apps on my iPhone 4 and iPad 1. I do NOT use it for the music on the laptop since it is too unfriendly for that. Honestly I do not like iTunes but it looks like it is a must for iPhone and iPad.
Anyway, I wish to move my iPhone and iPad to the new laptop (the old one will be discontinued and deauthorized from iTune Store). All the info I found involve library consolidation on the old PC, but I do NOT want to do that, because iTunes listed a lot of stuff from my HD when it was initially installed and I do not need to duplicate it (by the way, there is no room on HD to consolidate library). I simply wish to avoid to erase the few hundreds pieces that are installed on my iPhone, and of course all the app in iPhone and iPad.
How can I do that? I repeat: I do not want to consolidate the WHOLE library but simply preserve music on my devices.
Any help appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
PS Please, no conceptual replies, like: «why do you want that?» or «why dont't you like iTunes?», just a technical reply. Thank you.

I want to sync songs to iphone using my laptop and office computer. Is there any way I can do this?

    No.  Pick one.

  • How to I get my apps off iphone/ipad and into itunes without syncing?

I had my computer crash and recently restored it. I transferred my music back in via a hard drive and now that I am about to resync my phone, I either have to erase the phone with what is in iTunes, or erase what is in itunes with the phone. I have different info in both, so can I pull my contact info and apps off the phone into itunes so when itunes erases the phone, everything is back on?
Or, do I have to erase itunes with phone info and then just reload music from hard drive?
During the crash, I bought an ipad and synced it to a different computer so will need to sync it to this one instead and I have a few apps/podcasts/movies on it as well so don’t want to erase them and may have to do the same thing.
    Thanks!

All apps on your iPhone and iPad should be in your iTunes library on your computer, which should be included with your computer's backup per the instructions included with this link.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
With Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for each device's sync preferences with iTunes, after downloading an app with either device, the app will be copied to your iTunes library automatically the first time you sync the device with iTunes after doing so.
If the apps on each device are different, with your iPhone connected to iTunes and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. Repeat this for your iPad - Transfer Purchaes From - the name of your iPad.
Then you will need to select Sync Apps under the Apps tab making sure all apps on the connected device are selected below. This will not prevent the device from being erased of all iTunes content with the first sync.
If all apps on either device were in your iTunes library and your iTunes library was backed up per the instructions included with the link provided and restored from said backup, no iTunes content on either device would be erased with the first sync with iTunes.

  • C: drive is full - move only iTunes Media folder contents to another drive without consolidating?

My iTunes library contains a combination of music/movies/etc that I've purchased or downloaded from the iTunes Store as well as music I've purchased from Amazon and my own ripped CDs (not ripped via iTunes...other software).  The Amazon and ripped files have always lived on my D drive (for easier sharing betwen family members, without opening up permissions on our User folders), while the Store files all live under my User profile on C.
I'd like to move the iTunes Media folder contents off of C and onto D.  All the instructions that use "consolidating" and "keeping the media folder organized" will not work for me, since I do not want all my files under the iTunes Media folder...I like them where they are now in D:\Music\Amazon and D:\Music\CDCollection.
Do I have to resort to moving the files myself, adding them into the library again, then cleaning up the orphaned library entries that are pointing to the old location?
    Thanks!

Copy the entire iTunes folder from your music folder to D:\iTunes.
Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down the shift key. Keep holding until asked to choose or create a library.
Click Choose and navigate to the file D:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
Check the library is working properly.
Use the option File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate Files to import any stay files to the new library folder.
Delete the old iTunes folder on the C: drive.
Ideally you will also backup this library to another drive.

  • My hard drive that is sync to my ipad crashed! Good thing is all my photos were transferred to my ipad for viewing - now my quesiton is how do I back up my ipad on another computer without losing my pictures? can I back up my ipad on a external hard drive

My hard drive on my computer crashed!  This is the computer my ipad was sync with! All my photos of my three girls are on the ipad, but how do I get them transferred to either an external hard drive or to another computer - or just have them all printed - nearly 1000 photos!
Also, can I back up my ipad with an external hard drive?  If I try to sync to a new computer it will erase everything I currently have on the ipad , correct?
Thanks for your help - I am worried if I don't do something quick, my ipad will crash too!

Right.  You didn't read the post, you only read the title.
The title came from an earlier step in the process when I was posing a question to the systen.
The pertinent part of the question is "How to I back up documents that are stored in iCloud"
That the destination for the backup is NOT my internal HDD should be clear from the rest of the post.
And frankly, even if that is where I want to back up to, that would at least give me two copies, at least giving me one duplicate of the stuff on iCloud.
So please stop wasting my time if you can't answer the actual question: How do I backup content that is stored in iCloud.  The destination of the backup is irrelevant.

  • How do I move a .fm to another folder without breaking the .book cross-references?

    Simplified situation:
    I currently have mybook.book containing:
       chapter1.fm
       chap2.fm
       appendixA.fm
       apdxB.fm
I'd like to reorg the files such that mybook.book contains:
       chapters\chapter1.fm
       chapters\chap2.fm
       appendices\appendixA.fm
       appendices\apdxB.fm
If I move the files into folders with Windows Explorer, it will of course break the cross-references.  I thought I could simply use right-click Rename on the file enteries within the book in FM to move them, but it won't allow the / or | chars.  How can I accomplish this reorg without breaking the cross-references?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Not sure what the problem here is. You need neither a 3rd party plugin nor any MIF editing. Simply do it this way:
Create the required folders (chapters/appendices) within your current book folder
    Open the book
Open the chapter files and do a "Save as" into the \chapter subfolder
Open the appendix files and do a "Save as" into the \appendices subfolder
Delete the book file entries and re-fill the book with the newly saved files
Every "Save as..." keeps xrefs intact, including the new path in the document's references. This reqires some steps, yes. But I think it's still better than doing edits to MIF files by someone who is not experienced doing this.
Edit: Sorry, it's not a easy as I thought. I forgot that this is done in several steps, and previously saved files don't recognize path changes of files saved afterwards. So this is no solution.

  • I can only see three weeks of emails on the imap email account on my iMac even though the same email address set up as a pop account on my iPhone, iPad and another iMac show all my emails.  How do I change the setting to see more emails?

I have two iMacs, an iPhone, and an iPad.  All use the same email address but the new iMac would only let me set up the email account as an imap account. On this iMac I can only see three weeks worth of emails.  On the other iMac, iPhone, and iPad, this email address is set up as a pop account and I can see emails as far back as three years.  I use Yosemite on the new iMac and I cannot find out how to change the settings to let me see more than three weeks worth of emails.  This is an att&t email account which is basically a Yahoo account.

Nope. It will reset all settings. For fix errors.
Or you can try Logging out and Restart your iPad and Sign in again.

  • Can I connect my iPad to another computer without losing anything?

    Hi everyone,
My MacBooks logic board is basically dead, and I currently do not have the extra money to fix it. So I'm using a friend's old Dell in the mean time. My question is when I plug my iPad / iPod in to put songs/ other files on there, would everything be erased? I just wasn't sure if it would ask me to restore the iPad and iPod to connect to that computer? I don't want to lose anything I already have as I can only get on the macbook for a few seconds without it going to black screen again.
    Thank you for any advice!

This is an extract from one of our senior participant; hope he doesn't mind me reproducing it here
    Syncing with new computer
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.

  • How to move iphone/ipad backups to a new macbook

I currently have a macbook (2009), on which I backup my iphone, my ipad and my wife's ipad. I bought a new macbook, and want to make my iphone and ipad backups on my new macbook, but leave my wife's ipad backups on the old macbook. Please advise on the best way to achieve this.

Use Time Machine and backup the original MacBook to an external HDD. Then go to the new MacBook and use Time Machine to restore the personal data. See this Apple KB article for more information: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427

  • Purchasing iPhone/iPad in another country

I am currently in India, although I live in the UK.
If I were to purchase an iPhone/iPod in India, will it have the same functionality of one purchased in the UK, when I am back in the UK?
i.e. if a function works in the UK and not India, if I bought an iPhone in India, would that function work when I'm back in the UK, using a UK network etc?
I don't want to purchase a product that I can't fully use once I'm back in the UK.
    Thanks

Assuming that you have an UNLOCKED iDevice, you will have GSM functionality.  The LTE functionality will depend upon the exact bands that are available in your device, and the country in which you use the device.  You should check the Apple online stores for the two countried, and compare product specifications.  Too, the warranty of an iDevice is only effective in the country in which the iDevice was purchased.

  • Synchronize iphone 2G  with another mac (new itunes library)

Have a lot of pictures on my iphone but am afraid to synchronise to another computer (former synchronisation happened 3 years ago and this computer crashed some time ago).
I think everything (music and photos, contacts also (?)) will be erased as soon as i sync the iphone with my imac (a clean and empty itunes library).
So, is there any solution to retrieve the photos and contacts on my Iphone ?

  • How can I sync my iphone to a new computer without my pictures being erased?

I dont care about saving my music but i really want to keep my photos and contacts. How can i do that?

Copy everything form your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.
If you sync your contacts to a computer with no contacts, then they will be erased as will your calendars.
All of your itunes content will be erased and replaced with content from the new computer.
All pics synced to your iphone will be erased and replaced with pics from your new computer.
Copy everything form your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

  • Can no longer configure iPhone & iPad in iTunes

    Hi,
I ran into the following problem after upgrading both my iPhone and my iPad to iOS 5:
When I connect any of the two via USB to my Mac, they do show up in the iTunes device list, but the right pane - where one would configure, for instance, what to synch, remains empty. Both synch (via USB only) when I initiate the process from the Settings > General but it seems not via WiFi.
As a consequence, I am no longer able to manage what I want to synch - Music, photos etc.
    I am running 10.7.2 and iTunes 10.5 ...
    Thanks in advance, Jurgen

I finally solved the problem by connecting the iPad to another Mac (without synch'ing anything). Re-connecting it to my iMac, I was suddenly able to see the options in the right pane again, rather than just being able to un-mount. Here the post from the user who reported this solution first: link

  • Moving active screen to another monitor - without 3rd party

Is there anyway of using the keyboard to move a window to another monitor without using a 3rd party app?
It seems such a simple thing (to be able to move to another monitor)
    Thanks

    Terry,
Yes, the situation has not changed in 2.1, if you move the Service Profile to another Sub-Organization, what you get is a copy of the service profile and it stays unattached (you basically clone the SP).
What I recommend is that, now that you have a exact clone that actually makes reference to the exact same pools defined in UCSM, make sure that:
    * You assign the resources (pool's resources) for the blade manually
    OR
    * Free up the resources so that they can be assigned again to the new SP
Just the fact of drag and drop to a new sub-organization does not mean any traffic disruption or corruption of data, so it is a safe move.
Let me know if you have any other question.
    Please rate ALL helpful answers.
