Move  iPhoto 9 library  to  iPhoto 11 please help?

I wan´t to move my iPhoto 9 library from my old computer, to my new computer with iPhoto 11 please help me?

Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

• Power failure then iPhoto library= POOF! :-(    PLEASE HELP!

Power failure then iPhoto> library= POOF!
We had a power failure and of course iPhoto was open when my computer was improperly shut down. After powering up, I did the following; repaired permissions and ran disk utility (no problems found).
Upon opening iPhoto (6.03) I got the rebuild thumbnails message, and I said cancel (I was going to do it later), then IPhoto opened and it was BLANK! all 5000+ images were GONE! I am assuming the library got corrupted somehow on either the bad crash, or the canceling of the rebuild option.
Now, I am a bit neurotic about my pics, so I choose to make my own finder folders of pic when I take them off the camera, and then import into iPhoto that way. So the good news is I still have all my original pictures in folders in the finder.
From reading various threads here, and Googleing + Macfixit, etc etc. This is what I have done to try to recover my library. (not necessarily in this order)

Trash/recreate the iPhoto plist preferences

Clear caches using Cocktail software

Repaired permissions (in Disk utility), and then repair iPhoto library folder permissions usuing instructions found here using Batchmod software

Rebuild the iPhoto library (option, command) and selecting the 3 proper checkboxes.

Ran iPhoto Library Manager software to rebuild the database with no success. I get the error message "This Library cannot be rebuilt because its XML file contains no data".

Updated to iPhoto 6.04/repaired permissions and disk utility.
Each time iPhoto loads completely blank and void of my photos!
My assumption is the XML file is corrupt since I am getting that message in iPhoto Library Manager.
So what to do? And hear are my questions /issues.
I would certainly like to preserve my 4 years of customization of keywords, titles , folders, smart folders, etc. (which I assume is held in the now corrupt XML file?).
What is the best way to recover my customization and most importantly the images!
I realize I can just re-import all my images from my original finder image folders that I have, but I assume this method will not recover my keywords ,etc?
Is there a way to recover my customization?
I do have a fairly recent backup of my iPhoto folder on a backup drive ( I think!) It does not have all my newer pics in it, but as I mentioned I do still have all my .jpgs, just not in iPhoto!
Thanks in advance for reading and any help offered!
PBG4 1.33 2gig   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   120 gig hd

I got all my pictures AND everything else back, folders, ratings, keywords etc
Fortunately I had a backup of the entire iPhoto library folder, it was about 3 months old (I know shame on me) so I didn't want to just use the entire backup folder and lose 3 months of photos.
So I just copied the AlbumData.xml file and the Library6.iPhoto file. PRESTO all my pictures were back WITH all the folders, keywords etc, etc intact!! (up till the 3 month old backup point).
Then I just re-imported the missing 3 months worth of pictures from the original folder in the iphoto library folder. So all I had to recreate was 3 months worth of customization. WHEW!!
Reading through the discussions it seems there is a fair number of users where iPhoto would go empty, but they knew the images were still on the computer. I am not a programmer, but it seems silly to me the their are files that get re-written everytime iPhoto closes....computers crash. and then what happens to the files? Mine got corrupted, lesson learned BACKUP more frequently!!
Thanks to Old Toad who steered me to the Library6.iPhoto as a possible troublemaker in another thread!

• I deleted unwanted photos from my iPhoto library, emptied iPhoto trash & Finder trash... this did not free up disk space. please help!

I deleted unwanted photos from my iPhoto library, emptied iPhoto trash & Finder trash... this did not free up disk space. please help!
I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro (Late 2011) with OS X Mavericks 10.9.5
Last week, my 500 GB Harddrive had 120 GB free space. I was feeling crumby and decided to make productive use of taking a day off to lounge around. I snuggled up with my laptop and dedicated hours to meticulously combing through my iPhoto Library. I had 13,000 pictures, and I got rid of those I didn't want. Having said "sayōnara" to about 6,500 pictures, I then emptied the iPhoto trash and the Finder trash. I took delight in the iconic paper crumpling sound of them vanishing into the digital void.
Everything seemed perfect: the photos I loved were still there, the photos I loathed were gone, both trashes were beautifully empty. Having thrown away all of those awful, boring, and unflattering images of poorly light lunches and selfies gone wrong, my iPhoto library was half the size as before! I felt renewed, a little lighter, somehow more free, and I expected my hard drive to be a bit different to.
I eagerly checked my storage stats. My heart sank to see that my 120 GB of free space, was still only 120 GB of free space. I restarted my MacBook; this did not help. I restarted it the next day; this also did not help. It's been 5 days and the hard drive still has 120 GB free space. This is not an emergency and it will probably be a good while before I clutter my laptop to the brim. Yet while I am glad I don't have to see cringeworthy pictures of my ex's unmentionables every time I'm showing off things I do want to remember, I'm still disappointed and now obsessed with solving this mystery.
What is going on? I don't see them, so where are they hiding? How do I get the free space I should have earned from throwing away 1,000's of photos?!

Thank you, Terence!
Yes, I only emptied the trash when it was really full, once I waited until the trash cans contained 2,600 photos and then I emptied them - Oooops! In the future, I'll keep in mind your suggestion of deleting less than 100 photos at a time.
I downloaded the iPhoto Library Manager and used it to rebuild my iPhoto. After a few hours of rebuilding, it generated a new copy of my iPhoto Library. This versions was nearly identical to the original (it was missing 5 photos and was therefore only 5 mb smaller). I guess my Library wasn't defective.
I checked my storage stats, and interestingly, using iPhoto Library Manager did help with the problem that developed after I re-indexed my hard drive. My hard drive is able to properly recognize data categories again, instead of listing almost everything as "Other". Understandably, my free disk space changed from 120 GB to about 60 GB, because my hard drive now contained a second copy of my iPhoto Library as well as iPhoto Library Manager. It seemed like all I needed to do was throw these away, but when I emptied the trash, my problem was not solved. My Hard drive now looked like this:
It appears to me that when I empty the trash, the things I throw away are just hanging around as backups instead of leaving! I went into System Preferences and turned of my time machine OFF. Now my hard drive looks likes this:
The back ups of the iPhoto files, and the program which I deleted, are still on my hard drive some where but now they are listed as "Other" instead of "Backups". Do you know where they might be and how I can delete them for good?

• Iphoto 6 to iphoto 9 question. Please help.

Hello,
I have years of albums and slideshows from iphoto6 on my G5 tower (Tiger). I just recently purchased a used 27 inch imac with iphoto 9 on it.
I used migration assistant to transfer my files to the imac. When I launched itunes it successfully updated to include all of my songs, playlists, etc.
But when I launched iphoto 9 it said it needed to update (which I allowed) and then opened the program. It was empty. No images, no albums, slideshows, etc. I then copied my iphoto library folder and .plist files from my old G5 to an external hard drive, trashed them from my new imac and replaced them with the files from my external. Same result. What am I doing wrong? Can I transfer iphoto 6 to iphoto 9? Please help. Thank you.

Since the library is reacting the same way with a manual copy try the three fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

• I can't import my old iPhoto library into 9.51 HELP!!!

I purchased iphoto 9.51 from the app store but it can't import my old iPhoto Library ..please help as it looks like I've lost all my photos..there seems to be no postings on this topic

First of all - you need to open your old iPhoto Library in iPhoto 9.5.1, not to import it.
Which version of iPhoto created your old library? If it was iPhoto '08, version 7.x.y or earlier, then you need first to run the iPhoto Library Upgrader to prepare the library, see this link:   iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader
If it was a more recent version, simply launch iPhoto with the option-key held down and select your old iPhoto library, when prompted, which library to open.
If you have been trying to open iPhoto this way, what happens? Do you get an error message? Which error message exactly?

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Windows images, but you get the point. Depending on the age of your library the library file might not include the .itl extention. Make it match the file you are replacing.
See MusicFolder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks for tools to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.

How can I back up the iPhoto library when iPhoto won't open and I can't simply copy the iPhoto library packet because "some of the data canny be read from or written to"?

Regarding not being able to open iPhoto.  As a test  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Were you able to create a new library?
If so then your current library is damaged and needs to be repaired.
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start
with Option #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

• I accidentally synced my mum's brand new iPad to my mac book air. A few days later I realised that my iTune library on my mac is completely gone. So is my iPhone 4s after I synced it with my mac. How do I get my old iTunes library back? Please help!

I accidentally synced my mum's brand new iPad to my mac book air. A few days later I realised that my iTune library on my mac is completely gone. So is my iPhone 4s after I synced it with my mac. How do I get my old iTunes library back? I tried using icloud on my iphone but it stated that I have never back up my phone before. So I guess my iCloud data is gone too? But I have back up my mac in my harddrive using time machine. So how do I get my old itune library back? Please help! Thanks!

1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

• I am unable to open my iPhoto library with iPhoto

tried rebuilding permissions, data base repair, and data base rebuild to no avail

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and try to create a new, test library.  Can you?   If you can't  try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you can create a new library then you need to rebuild your library with iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download IPhoto Library Manager 4 for OS XC 10.6.8 and iPhoto  8.1.2 and later  or iPhoto Library Manager 3 (for OS X 10.5.8 and iPhoto 7.1.5 and earlier) and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 3) or Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 4) option.
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. Hi Videoframe
This was emailed to Apple Support on 23 DEc 2012 at 09:50 Eastern Australia time.
"I continued to talk to other Apple Mac users on iMovie….Interesting to have found out that their movies were made using iDVD without any known issues as yet…Looking at the results from Apple Support Forum and Youtube, problems appears to be when NOT using iDVD. I and many others can't understand how these many technical problems were overlooked by the programmers of iMovie. One would have thought iMovie problems have been iron out prior to getting rid of iDVD. By the way when I first contacted Apple Support back on 16th Nov, I was told I need to RE-INSTALL my computer…..that I did and in the process my iDVD was removed and never was re-installed.
May I suggest you delegate a junior person or someone string together a project consisting over near 1700 images, approx. 25mins of video footage, titles and including with and without transitions then export the project.
I am still in the dark as to what is being done about this extended non result. I am not sure if is known by the people who is in charge of this iMovie programme. it would be nice to get some sort of feedback. Not sure if I should refer this to a third party to do the testing?? I am sure Apple's competitors would love to make a mockery of this.
There has to be a time frame for this to end, as I and many others can't simply sit here in the dark and wait for someone to come back for a solution, this could be months or years who knows.  As you can appreciate I am not the only user anxiously waiting for a solution.
I guess I am in a way representing other worldwide users in pursuing a solution on this matter ASAP. I therefore ask you to please make this a priority if this is at all possible.
Many thanks."
I've been corresponding to them since Fri 16th Nov on and off without a solution.
