Move iweb file between computers

I created a blog website on my laptop and now want to move those files to my iMac.  How do I do that?

The file you need to move to the other computer is names Domain.sites2 and is located in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.
If you play on switching computers frequently to maintain the site this online MacWorld article might be of interest to you: Managing an iWeb site from multiple Macs.

  • Transporting iweb files between computers

    Hi!
Does anybody know how to transport iweb files between computers? If I have a site that I want to put on another computer without deleting the sites on that computer. What do I do? I have discovered that i can make many copies the Domain file that I have found in the Library/Applications Support/iWeb folder. Is this the only way?
    Thanks!
    /Chris

All you need to do is copy the Domain.sites2 file that's in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the same folder on the other computer.

  • Transfering iWeb files between computers

I bought a new iMac and used migration to move all my apps & files off my laptop. However, my iWeb files didn't transfer; I want to keep my site updated using my desktop machine.
Any suggestions how to transfer these files?

iWeb files don't transfer by themselves. You have to do it. Go to your old computer and get the file.

  • How do i move adobe licences between computers

I need to move adobe versions between computers, can I uninstall and re install on the computers I need using the same serial numbers?
Also Can I also have a record from adobe of what our organisation has purchased?

You will have to manually transfer the files from one computer to the other using whatever method is easiest for you. (network, DVD, CD, hard drive) Or, put files on network drive. That's what I do.

  • How do I drag and drop files between computers when using Home Sharing in ITunes?

How can I drag music files between computers while using Home Sharing? An older version of ITunes had a Home Sharing icon in the column browser near the playlist so it was easy to drag and drop.

    Hello cacalenni,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you wish to learn how to import songs using Home Sharing in the new iTunes. The following resource should assist you in doing so:

  • How do I share files between computers (mac's) on the same wireless network?

How do I share files between computers (mac's) on the same wireless network?

Turn on File Sharing in System Preferences - Sharing, then you should be able to see them in the other Macs' Finder sidebars (under Shared). Click on them, click Connect As, and log in with the user credentials you're sharing from.

  • How to share files between computers and TC

What is the best way to share content/files between computers (iMac and MacBook Pro)?
I thought about using Time Capsule for this...is this NOT wise?
    Thanks

What is the best way to share content/files between computers (iMac and MacBook Pro)?
The simplest way to do this would be to enable File Sharing on both Macs.
    On each Mac....
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Sharing
Enter a check mark next to File Sharing
Now when you open the Finder or Macintosh HD, you will see the "other" Mac and you will be able to access files/folders, etc. on the other computer.
I thought about using Time Capsule for this...is this NOT wise?
The Time Capsule was designed to work with the Time Machine application to back up your Mac(s). As such, the TC will make a complete copy of each Mac on the first backup and backup any changes after that to keep a complete timeline of each Macs files. Each computer normally will only be able to access the backups for that given computer.
While it is possible to store normal files or folders on the Time Capsule disk, this is not generally recommended as there will eventually be a struggle between Time Machine and the files on the disk as the drive begins to fill up. The other thing to keep in mind is that access to the drive for "normal" files will be quite slow.

  • Move files between computers

I have a new macbook air and a 5 year old iMac. I want to move some files from the iMac to the air. What's the easiest way to do it? I thought I could network the two together with my modem/router. They can see each other but file sharing doesn't seem to be working even though I'm trying to enable it. Do I need another piece of hardware such as an Airport base station?

    Thanks useless,
This would work, I think. I don't have the Thuderbolt/Firewire connection I would need, although I could buy the required converter.  I was hoping to do it wirelessly. Can I do the same thing wirelessly through my modem/router?

  • Moving files between computers

Hello, friends, can anyone plz advice me how best to move a file from one Mac to another? I thinkin there must be some kind of cable I could purchase for this. I want to move a one hour IMovie 6 movie to a larger Mac to burn on IDVD. After 20 continous hours of attempting to burn it on my smaller Mac, I gave up the ship and force quit IDVD. The small Mac Book 2.1 say I have 14 gb available in IMovie for this job whereas the larger, newer Mac has 115 gb! This must be the best way to go!?
Thanks a ton and a half!

It's actually very easy, all you need is a single FireWire cable. Here are the instructions right from the Mac's Help menu:
Transferring files between two computers using FireWire
You can use FireWire to connect your computer to another Mac and have one of the computers appear as an external hard disk on the other computer. This is sometimes called Target Disk Mode.
    To transfer files using FireWire:
Shut down the first computer and leave the second computer on.
Connect the two computers using a 6-pin to 6-pin FireWire cable. (If both computers have higher-speed FireWire 800 ports in addition to the standard FireWire 400 ports, you can use a 9-pin to 9-pin cable with the FireWire 800 ports to transfer data at higher speeds.)
Open System Preferences, click the Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. (Or, start up the first computer while holding down the T key.) A disk icon for the first computer appears on the desktop on the second computer. Drag files to and from the disk to transfer them.
When you finish, eject the first computer's disk by dragging its icon to the Trash. (While you drag, the Trash icon changes to an Eject icon.)
Push the power button on the first computer to shut it down and disconnect the FireWire cable.
If the computer to which you connect your computer is running Mac OS 9, it must have FireWire version 2.3.3 or later installed. Use Apple System Profiler (located in /Applications/Utilities) to check the version of FireWire installed. If it has an older version, get an update at the Apple FireWire website at www.apple.com/firewire.

  • Suddenly slow transfer of files between computers over LAN

All, I have the following: HP Desktop, XP Pro, SP3, with Maxtor external HD Dell Laptop, VISTA Business, SP2 Both 32 bit Both running Norton Internet Security 2011, including firewall Linksys WRT54GL router V1.1, connected to DSL The external HD is configured to share over the network. I use it to move files between the twp computers, and to access the Internet. It has been working fine for about 3 years. Everything is still working, except that the speed of transfer, either direction, between the laptop and the external HD has dropped to nearly zero. Files that used to take a minute or so to transfer now literally take hours, and depending on the software, may time out. The problem is not so much the speed over the network, but that the data is only sent in short bursts, with long, many seconds, delays between. As the file progresses, the process gets worse. Typically, it takes as long to send the last 10 % as the first 90%. In the past, the data was sent in a continuous stream. The access between the laptop and the Internet is still fine. I am in a rural area, and have verified that there is no other WiFi to interfere. Using my backup program, I have rolled both my computers back to a time when everything was working. The problem still exists. That seems to point to the router. I have flashed the most recent firmware and reconfigured, but not help. Google turns up lots of hits, but nothing that fits this. Any suggestions on what to do next? For now, I am just swapping the USB drive physically. Alan

Try to reset the router and reconfigure it.
Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it.
Change the MTU size to 1365. Save the settings.
Go to Wireless tab and click on Advanced wireless settings. Change the Beacon Interval to 75, RTS and fragmentation threshold to 2304. Save the settings. Power cycle the router and see if that helps you.
Disable or turn OFF the firewall or Anti-virus software on your computer.

  • My challenge: recovering original iWeb files from 2010-2011 timeframe, which included a blog consisting of original postings from me and comments posted to the web from family and friends. I have the web archive files - but did not move iWeb files then.

Background:  I started this blog while living overseas and going to sea with the Navy.  Missed the opportunity to move the iWeb files with content attached from the mobile.me server to another server.  Now, I have the original web archive files - good - but not the comments added to them by family and friends - bad.
My ultimate objective is to create a hard-cover bound book of these files with the comments on the blog ... they document a rather significant experience in my family's life ... to do this, I need to recover the original files with postings.
Any thoughts or insight would be sincerely appreciated!
    Thanks, cfwnavy

You have replied to a post that is a month old now and the OP has never replied, so you are probably wasting your time here.
If you read the OP's post and my reply, you will see that he will not be able to recover his blog and neither will you.
If your Mac was stolen and you did not back up your iWeb domain.sites files, then you CANNOT get your blog back.
If you published your site to a host/server, then you can download it back onto your Mac and you will have to re-build your blog/website from scratch and re-publish, but all your replies and responses to posts will be lost and you can never get these back.
My advice would be to re-create your blog in another format such as WordPress.com which is free and don't use iWeb again.
There are plenty of alternatives out there.

    Hello AshleyRiverman,
It sounds like you have a directory of folders that contain photos in a specific organization that you want to copy to another computer. You can enable File Sharing to be able to access the photos from one computer on another, and even allow the viewing computer to be able to add photos or delete them, thereby keeping them the same across both computers. This article will help you get that set up and configure the permissions for it:
OS X Mountain Lion: Share your files

  • A droplet to move file between computers on different networks?

    Hey all!
I have a Mac Mini working as the media server for my TV. I use the same Mini to download all my torrents, since it's connected directly to my router.
I was wondering if anyone can think of a way to create a droplet (or something else with similar functionality) so that I can use my Macbook Pro remotely from work to initiate torrent downloads on my Mini at home. I understand how it'd be possible to do so with VNC, but I'm more interested in something simpler (like a droplet between my laptop and my Mini).
    Thanks geniuses!
    - BP

The only seamless way to control your mac mini remotely would be to use screen sharing (VNC). The other way would be to use ssh to remotely log in, but that would only give you command-line accessibility to the Mac Mini. There may be a couple of other options, however.
For one, it sounds like you might want to initiate a torrent download remotely, using a torrent file that you have remotely. There are some torrent programs that have the ability to "watch" a given folder for new torrent files and then immediately start up the transfer when new torrents are detected in that folder. As such, you could share that folder and then access it remotely using AFP. All you'd need to know is your home ip address and then you'd use the command-K key sequence to "connect to" and then enter the ip address. After logging in you could then drag the torrent you ahve on your Macbook to the shared folder on your Mini and after the transfer the torrent program running on your Mini would automatically start up the transfer.
You could then make an alias on your Macbook of the mounted shared folder, so it will be easier to access in the future; however, this would require the ip address to be static (most home internet accounts dont have static ip addresses).

  • Can I move project files between a mac and a pc?

I have a PC desktop, which I run Adobe Premiere CS4 and work mainly on.  I am looking into buying a mac book pro to use in the field and for some work while traveling.  I was wondering if I could start a project at home (I work on Firewire Portable Drives) then open it in the mac version then back to the PC when I get home?  Or even the other way around... I just want to go back and forth between the machines seemlessly.
    Thanks!

Other than the physical external formatting, you might want to plan your Assets, so that you have the greatest compatibility between the two platforms, also. Some .MOV CODEC's can cause PrPro problems on the PC side of the street, though in general I have few problems with the ones that I get from most Macs. Same can be true for .AVI's on the Mac side.
I've swapped Projects from Mac's to my PC with no issues to date. Only hangup was the FAT-32 format for the external, because of the Mac compatibility (what Curt pointed out). File sizes have to be kept down due to that. Do not know if the newer Mac OS's can read NTSF, but I do not think so. To overcome this, you should be able to get MacDrive for the PC and use a more efficient formatting than FAT-32. I'd check into this, as a 4GB file limit comes up quickly.
In my case, I just plugged the Mac's external and copied the whole Project & media, to my 2TB NTSF externals and didn't have any problems. Never even needed MacDrive.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
