Move library to save during reinstall

My son has an older ipod. He upgraded to whatever the itunes is now...7xx. The sync freezes.
The ipod itself has been reset, so there is nothing on it.
How do I move/save his library on his PC (and move it back again) so that I don't lose it when I uninstall 7 and reinstall 6?

The Mail program is probably not what is corrupted. That would be extremely difficult because it is not written back to disk. The problem is likely in your user data.
You could check that by logging into a different account (make one if you don't) and set up Mail in that account. If it works fine in that account then you have a problem in your user data.
To reinstall Mail, you'll have to get out your Snow Leopard install DVD and check if it is part of the Optional Installs. If it is not, you could use a program called Pacifist to extract the Mail installer. You'd then have to install the 10.6.7 combo Update to bring Mail up to current version.
What are the permissions on your Mail folder? Post output of this command you run in Terminal (just copy and paste):
ls -ale ~/Library/Mail
ls is List. -a tells it to show hidden files/folder. l tells it to make a list with details. e tells it to list Access Control List entries.

Video in Movies Library doesn't sync to Apple TV

I have a reference file (.mov) in my iTunes movies library that plays in iTunes. I want to watch this on my Apple TV, but it does not show in the movies section of Apple TV when synched. Says I have not rented movies in my library. Any idea on how synch this? Thanks.

Not knowing which compression type is used inside your AVI files, you may need to also purchase the QT mpeg2 playback component (you could check your compression type/See This). The WMV files will need the flip4mac plugin which you can obtain HERE.
Once you have your movies in QT Pro, choose file/export and from the resulting save options for 'export' choose 'Movie to Apple TV'

Spotlight.
A Search app top right of the Menu Bar ( or it was until Mountain Lion when Notifications now has the far right spot)
Spotlight has a magnifying/spy glass type icon.
It has been part of the OS for sometime now. (I have one computer here currently booted in to OS X 10.3 (Panther) and it is not in that version but it is soon after that.)
The Archive folder is dated folders.

I find Spotlight and then using the Show in Finder option and look through the list shows me the Files saved since Mountain lion was installed.
Also the Messages > File Menu > Recent Items will call up the Chat again (And show you the conversation joined up with other Saved chats back to the Mountain Lion Install date).
To Look in the Home Folder/Library you can do the following:-
Have the Finder as the "Front" App (Showing in the Menu bar)
Use the Go Menu
WHilst this is in the Drop down view hold trhe ALT key down
This display the hidden Library
Select the Library.
You can then select the various folders in the Library.
You need Messages and the contents of that folder.

Crash when clicking on "Movies" Library

I just recently downloaded the latest Itunes update. I had been running Version 7.5 and everything had been fine..but the new version crashes everytime I try to click on the Movies library on the left side of Itunes. Everything else is fine, the podcast library, radio, etc..just the movie library crashes when I try to click it
This is what the error says..

OK..I had been doing alot of things other people suggested if their Itunes was crashing and such. I uninstalled Quicktime and reinstalled it, just as users had suggested in other threads. That didnt work..so I went into my preferences and told Itunes to not show the Movies library. I OKed that, then went back to preferences and told itunes to show the movie library again, and now Itunes doesnt crash..really weird. I dont understand it at all, but I will mark this as answered now

ITunes 10.5 (on Win7 Pro) will not allow movies (.mp4) to be added to the Movie library.

In the previous release, iTunes 10.4.080, I had no problem with drag & drop of movies (.mp4) from a windows folder to the Movies library. After installing 10.5 today I have lost the ability to sync my own .mp4 content with my iPad. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Similar problem here, one pc with iTunes 10.4, the other with a fresh install of everything, including iTunes 10.5. My online classes use iTunes U for lectures. They download fine on the 10.4 version but 10.5 does not save them at all. I am now actively searching for a 10.4 install executable......

Private movie library to slowly

The new Apple TV works fine except with my personal movie library. It contains more than 2000 movies. iTunes don't struggle with that. But the new Apple TV has some problems with this. In the menu "Movies" it takes 20 seconds to switch from one genre to the next one. The ">"-symbol in the menu keeps grey during that time. When I select one genre the mediathek starts loading for round about tree minutes. Every second time apple TV crashes while loading the movie information. I hope, that apple read this posting and changes the algorithm to retrieve the movie information. I think, that apple TV scans all the movies of the selected genre for picture and other tags before rendering the movie list. It would be much better to do that while moving with the cursor over a particular movie. I hope, that apple changes this behavior. One way to overcome the problem is to use small playlists. Does anybody have another clue?

I'm seeing the same thing. It's awful. The 1st-gen device was MUCH quicker than the new device.

IMovie to iDVD movie library

Please help if you can. I want to save an iMovie clip to iDVD's movie library, I THINK---that is, I think that is how to make the iMovie file accessible to iDVD's AUTOPLAY. And that's it: I simply want to place an iMovie clip into iDVD's autoplay. Can this be done? Any help with this will be wonderful! Jack

If I understand your question well, you want a small movie to play automatically every time it is inserted in a player?
This is easily done.
- Launch iDVD, and open your project.
- Click on the DVD Map icon (below the main viewing window, left most of the three icons)
- You will see the different parts of your DVD in a tree like shape. The one which is at the root of your 'tree' (usually on the top) is empty and says:
"drag content here to automatically play when the disc is inserted."
- Then drag and drop a clip from iMovie, or a DV file.
I personally have done a small copyright movie, with music and tansitions. To have then one single clip I did an export from iMovie in full quality to DV. Saved it on the desktop, then dragged it to that autoplay placeholder.

Yes. Just copy all your music to a folder on your external. Then delete the music on your computers hard drive.
It is not quite that simple. If you do that you will end up with many broken links and will have to re-create your library from scratch . iTunes does not like it when you move or rename files or folders and doing so between drives is guaranteed to result in exclamation marks indicating you have broken the links to all your media files.
If you are content with moving the whole library to an external drive (usually the best thing for most people), try:

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

Welcome to the Club! Got the same Problem and had a really hard time reaching the Customer Support because they were down due to maitenance! Just wrote to their experts chat and hope to get an answer in this life!
I tried to authorize my Computer and eBookreader with a new Adobe-ID, but it says I've done used this ID too often, even though it was brandnew! Can't copy my just-purchased eBook because "Copying is not allowed".
I hold my thumbs for you that Adobe solves this Problem fast enough. Other ways I'll sell my eBookreader and buy the Kindle-Reader from Amazon and say GOOD BYE to Adobe!

Select/highlight the ones that you want to change in your iTunes library, do Get-Info (control-I) and change their Media Kind on their Options tab to 'Music Video' - and then similarly for the podcasts.

They should have downloaded into the Videos app (iTunes on the iPad is just the iTunes store) :
If they aren't in there then have you got a film age rating set in Settings > General > Restrictions that is hiding them ?

How to share the movie library

My mac is networked with another mac in the house. I want to share my movie library with that mac. So I went to the iTunes Preferences and checked Look for shared libraries and Share my library on my local network. I did the same on the other mac, but I can't see my movies on that mac. Is there something else I need to do, maybe having to do with a firewall? I'm stumped. We each have our own iTunes installed, so it isn't one that is on a shared drive specifically.

Click on the name of the shared library in the itunes source pane on the left hand side. Wait for the library to load. click on the black triangle next to the name of the shared library. There should be a movies playlist listing all of the movies that are referenced through itunes on the other computer. Also from the look for shared libraries preferences, check that share entire library is checked.
