Move mail folders and settings from 10.6 to 10.4

Hello,
will there be any problems if i copy my Mail folder, and the com.apple.mail.plist file from a 10.6.4 install over to a 10.4 install?
I have all my emails on a macintosh with Snow Leopard, but i need to copy all my emails etc over to another Mac that has a 10.4 install.

I will have to think about this, and perhaps test. I have tested going from Mail in 10.6.x to 10.5.x, and it works despite some changes and new added files in Mail 4.x.
While I think it should work, I do know that with a POP account, the file that prevents duplicate downloads will not functionally transfer to Mail 2.1.x, and thus any messages remaining on the POP3 server will again download. This is because Mail 2.x uses a file in each account folder, while in Mail 3.x and 4.x, there is a single file at the root level of the Mail folder that does this.

  • How to restore mail accounts and settings from time machine

Long story short...the day that my applecare expired my hard drive went out in my 2009 mbp.  So, I bought a new hard drive to upgrade from 250gb to 750gb.  Problem was that when I installed it and went through everything...my new hard drive was too large than the computer was made to handle.  I called Apple Care and they made an exception and talked with me - which revealed that the hd was too big.  His suggestion was to try to intall the os from the disk and see if it will work.  So, I popped in my Leopard Install disc...did all the updates...then snow leopard...then all the updates....then Lion...then all the updates.  I ended up getting all of my main files that I wanted, along with my iTunes account (my iCal and Address book were synced to my cloud, so they popped up quickly).  HOWEVER...I'm trying to get my work email account (along with the folders of old emails) back in mail.  I can't seem to find the right file (I don't see a mail plist file in my preferences folder).  Can anyone help please???

For posterity's sake, since i had this issue too, i thought i'd post my solution.
Locate and save a copy, locally on your computer, of a library.itl file that would contain the playlist you need. I'd suggest saving to your desktop. name it so you'll recognize it as the old library file.
Quit iTunes if open, and relaunch, holding down the Option key immediately after
    when prompted, select "Choose Library"
Find the file you saved in step 1. this will launch iTunes with all the old playlists and such. Don't worry, it doesn't touch the actual songs themselves, so nothing is lost of from your current library.
Find the playlist(s) you want, right click on them and export. save them as .txt file (again, suggest desktop for ease)
Once all playlists you want to restore are saved, quit iTunes.
Launch iTunes, again pressing Option immediately after
Select "Choose Library" and select the Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Library.itl file. This will restore iTunes to the most current copy of your library
Select File -> Library -> Import Playlist and find the .txt file for your playlist on your desktop. et voila!

How can I remove all my preferences and settings from mail and do a clean install of mail app?

Open mail > Preferences > Accounts
Select the account and click the minus button at the bottom of the column.
    Quit mail
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist move this file to the trash and empty it.
~/Library/Mail/ and move all of the items in that folder to the trash and then empty it.

  • How migrate all mail (boxes and accounts) from 10.6.8 on Mavericks (without Migration Assistant)?

How migrate all mail (boxes and accounts) from 10.6.8 on Mavericks (without Migration Assistant)? Install the system (10.9.1) on a blank disk, copied the program and set up manually. Mail accounts and folders does not work to install and configure. Migration Assistant does not want to use, as it copies everything, and you only need to e-mail. Read a lot, but nothing works.

Try reindexing the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.
    Reindex messages.
If that doesn't work try deleting MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3.
    Quit the application.
You need to look in your user Library. Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Mail/V2/Mail Data/MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3.  Move the file to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the file from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return thefile to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.5. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • I use my ipod for audible books downloads. In the past I have been able to move books back and forth from library to ipod according to what I was listening to.  I can no longer retreive books in the library. Any suggestions?

I use  my 6th generation Ipod strictly for Audible downloads.  In the past, I have been able to move titles back and forth from the Ipod and my Itunes library, to control the amount books on the ipod. Recently, an exclamation mark has appeared next to the titles as I try to transfer to the ipod, and the book does not transfer.  Any suggestions on how to regain access to my purchased library?

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

  • Move itunes music and playlists  from one disk to another on same mac pro

I was running Maverick 10.9.1 on my early 08 Mac Pro. I was having significant problems with the system locking up and having to shut it down manually. After discussing the problem with an Apple Support Rep, I executed a clean installed of Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a new HDD.  I need to move my itunes library from the old Maverick HD to the new Snow Leopard HD. My Time Machine is corrupted for the old drive.  How can I move my music and playlists from itunes on the old drive Maverick to the new Snow Leopard drive?  I will also need to move my address book contacts.  Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks. This solved the iTunes problem.  Any suggestion as to how I cam move or copy my address book to the new HD?  I can't find the location of the address book files on the old HD.

I need to erase all Contents and Settings from my i phone 5 but I forgot the restrictions passcode. How can I get it. ( Idon't have access to i tunes). Thanks.

Not possible.  You need access to iTunes.
The passcode will be required to make changes to these settings or to disable Restrictions. Note: If you lose or forget a restriction passcode, you will need to perform a factory restore to remove it.

Buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store, install it, and run Software Update twice.

  • I have a password problem. After importing data and settings from one MacBook Pro to a new one, I have to put my iCloud password in when re-starting, but the password from the old computer in when waking the computer from sleep.

I have a password problem. After importing data and settings from one MacBook Pro to a new one, I have to put my iCloud password in when re-starting the new computer, but the password from the old computer in when waking the computer from sleep. I want to use my iCloud password on both computers consistently. How can I fix this?

The only other place to change a password for the computer login is in Users & Groups preferences. But I don't really know enough here to fix your problem. You can try fixing the keychain:
iCloud- Frequently asked questions about iCloud Keychain
    Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
      4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
      5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
      6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
          "New Keychain"
      7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.

If you do, ask your dad if the phone was jailbroken or hacked to unlock it.
